[Q] Android Market ? - Folio 100 General

Hello All,
I'm wondering if it's possible to have acces to the official android market without having to install another rom. I just bought my folio and I don't want to take the risk to brick it for the moment (btw if I brick my folio 100 when trying to install a rom, is it possible to recover it ?).
I know it exist for the latest archos but i did not find anything for the folio 100,
Thanks

Sorry, it is not possible to get the "Official" market without flashing your tablet.
But the chance to brik your table tis quite slim. Since you put the update on an external sdcard, you can always re-flash your device from the boot menu.
I sugest your read up on the procedure in the development forum and you will see that it is not so hard to flash the tablet. Keep in mind tho that you have to root your device first.

Tho the chance is quite slim, there is still a chance. Be carefull and always read every thing first before you start!

Do you know if it's due to the folio itself or to the fact that nobody developped a soft like the one for the archos tablets ?

OK, thanks.

it would interest me also if its possible..i was able o install android market on stock rom following this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209&highlight=viewsonic+tablet+super
but i can't login, i think market doesn't recognize my device..
i don't want to use cooked rom because i have wake up from deep sleep issue. is there way to change Mac adress or something like in cooked rom?

Just to understand : what is the problem with the mac adress and why it's needed to change it for having the market ?

if you install folio mod then folio is recognized with other name..so android market must somehow identify device but folio is probably not in that list, so dexter change something in that rom.. but i'm not 100% sure with that

New official folio update (2.2.5.0131) - flashing is NOT recommended for new users!

this official update will lock your recovery options to flash custom roms!
so my recommendations is
AVOID OFFICIAL UPDATES, and you're safe
Its still ROOT'able, but no documentation atm, for how to revert back to a recovery, that works.. but if you can root,
the important part is to copy my "recovery.img" file to a location on your device ie. like /data/recovery.img
and from shell you execute
cat /data/recovery.img >/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
root works
hello, i little speak english...
PdaNet + SuperOneClick method works for root
Sorry double post...
for rooter, you must do this if the update took place from Service Station:
1. Start the Recovery -> Wipe Data / Factory Reset -> Reboot
2. Start normal and remove Toshiba Service Station and Market Place -> Turn off the Folio
3. Start the Recovery -> Wipe Cache -> Reboot
4. Start with the normal and new rooter SuperOneclick 1.6.5. - Turn off the Folio
5. Normal Start

other reported that it did not work on new updates. only on old stock before 0053.. so maybe someone can confirm this on new release.
Maybe you can do a 'safe' version of the new ROM for us that doesn't include the new lockdown? This is so tedious of Toshiba - I struggle to understand what they try to achieve by doing this.
I'm starting to think Toshiba deliberately want's to make this device useless.
Do they hate there first tablet so much they even punishing the people who bought it?

but can you flash a custom rom? its not much help if you need complex methods of installing / reverting back to another custom rom, so you recommendation might be users are stock on something they dont want..
AND!
users need to have a ADB connection to your folio, which again is not many regular users know how to do, so again making it much more complex to work with..
if will NOT RECOMMEND installing stock, for regular users.. you will spend hours on trying to get back to a custom rom, which is not needed at all.

Dexter, I'm confused. Or maybe I misunderstood. Why is it bad to flash to the new firmware when you can restore it back to factory settings? Coz once I can do that, I can get back my old firmware and flash custom mods again as before. Or would flashing to the new firmware make it the new default factory setting? Hmm....

This is such a bad move by Toshiba...at least make a proper product like Motorola then they can do these stupid stuffs
Oh no! I waited too long before ordering mine I've been told there's a new batch coming in March - obviously these will come with the new factory ROM!
Dexter, is there no way of putting on custom ROM's onto the device with this factory ROM pre-loaded?
That's part of the reason I ordered one - I like to tinker

seems it can be root'd after all, so its not all locked down, but i hope someone will write the "howto" for doing it, because its no so simple to revert it, but is possible..
Hello
How can I root it after this update? SuperOneClick doesn't do it.
What's 'PdaNet + SuperOneClick' method? What should one do to gain the root privileges?
One should find a SuperOneClick Tutoraial on XDA & follow it.
Works like a charm once you installed everything prior rooting procedure.

[Q] How to detect "SpyWare"

Hello all,
may i´m not right in this forum, but i can´t see a matching one.
I bought a used android phone from someone who was somekind of "not friendly".
Coming from winmob, i´m an android noob.
After reading here and at the net about the possibilities of android apps, i am now a little afraid to go online with the device with my sim inside, because i am not sure if the seller may installed some spy-apps and then may get my personal data, my location, or may remotely crash the device after a while.
I´ve already set it back to factory. But as i read, there may some apps which will survive this. I´ve also already rooted and installed some "su-apps" to look inside processes and files.
But there are many apps and services i cannot judge if they are standard from the OS and safe, or not.
Are there tools to investigate if something "weird" is installed, or may blacklists of spy-apps?
Thx in advance.
flash back to a stock rom, then youll know you are safe.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
thanks for the quick reply
you mean, when i run
settings - security - back to factory (my translation from german)
is enough and no "backround-spy-process" is able to survive within this process?
thx
Search the market for Dr.Web perhaps?

Simply doing the factory reset may not get it.
If you're rooted, install a custom recovery and then install a custom ROM (could be custom, or just a rooted stock rom). You'll wipe the various partitions when you install the rom, and that should clear anything up.
We aren't going to be able to help much more than that without knowing at least what phone you have. Note that there are phone-specific subforums here, I would recommend that you find the one for the phone you bought and ask in there.

as i said, i´m an android noob and a little afraid to install a custom ROM and if it will crash then.
it was on 1.6 and i already updated it to 2.2 (OTA) ... did that may did the same as to install a new (custom-) ROM?
btw. it´s a streak and i spent a lot of time to setup apps, widgets, etc.
are there really no tools to detect known spy-apps?
thanks to all
Dr.Web doesn't do that? I got the impression that was what it was for...

[Q] 2.2.1 - complications on downgrade and root.

Phone: LG P500h - ANDROID v 2.2.1 buildnumber FRG83.
Country: Brazil
Anyway, what I know is that i have to downgrade it to 2.2 in order to be able to root. I've looked through a bunch of tutorials on a bunch of websites but there are a few questions i have about the process that isn't answered anywhere i've looked.
Apparently downgrading requires me to get a stock ROM from LG, there is a topic here for that but it does not have the right ROM for my country, i tried a couple codes but they all got me 404.
Can I just flash any standard ROM from, US maybe, will it work?
And if yes, how do I flash it? Apparently you can do that by booting into recovery mode, but to get there you need it to be rooted which I can't do.
I've read about KDZ and downloaded that but... it crashes a lot in my PC (whenever i try the Read Device) it gives me error and closes the program (windows program not responding dialog).
I'm afraid it might crash in the middle of it if i try flashing and that would brick my device.
Is there a simple way to flash a new ROM? Is that the first thing I have to do in order to get a custom ROM say Ubuntdroid? It says I need a new recovery... but for that I need to downgrade first? It's a lot to do... and I don't really get the order in which I should do it all in...
Can somebody post me a little "do this, then do that, then finally do that" so that I can understand it all finally?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for long post, was trying to be as informative as possible.
This shows what happens when I try reading the phone on KDZ... also a little part showing that I got my device to be recognized by windows...
also disabled the LGE modem on device manager, read that if I don't it'll get bricked.
Well it won't let me link the image so... just paste the name together.

1. Find a suitable v2.2 stock ROM for flashing (link)
2. Use KDZ to flash it (I am not aware of another tool capable of doing that). Try doing that on a PC running Windows XP (important - that's where you're stuck now and I guess you're using Windows 7).
3. Root your phone - search for "z4root" on Market, install it.
4. Install Custom recovery, which will replace your current (stock) recovery mode (link - you may need to create an account on another forum in order to download).
5. Using Custom recovery you can now install any custom ROM and create nandroid backups to restore your phone to a certain (working) state.
You will have to use KDZ again if you ever want to flash a stock ROM, also losing the custom recovery. But you will have no reason to do that, except if you need to take your phone to some warranty repairs.
Good luck!
NEW PROBLEM: About step 1... i finally found a way to get my country's rom, but... it's.. the same thats on my device right now, it says V10a_02 and thats the same on my phone (the kdz read phone tells me that) so... won't I just be flashing the same 2.2.1 again?
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500H/ABRABK/V10A_02/V10A_02.kdz <---- the rom the topic tells me to get.
How do I know what version of android is in that rom? and if i can't, can you link me to a rom that does?
I found one from another country that the guy said is 2.2... but... will it work if i flash that one? does it HAVE to be for my country? also my model is p500h (the h) is it different from the p500 (different as in flashing p500 without h roms on it will kill it?)
As for flashing it...
I think maybe a computer with win xp will do the trick for kdz.
i've found this post today:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944881
is it better to use that than kdz? theres no replies on topic saying "hey it worked" so i'm a little worried, but apart from a few errors it seems to work on my win 7....
i guess the reply would be "i only know kdz, do it with kdz" but i thought i might ask...
Indeed, I have not tried that method and therefore I can't recommend it. At least KDZ is successfully tested. If you are patient enough to wait for some replies either here or in that topic, you may find out if it works. I would recommend it only if you have no other choice, like if you're unable to try KDZ on an XP machine.
In the mean time, I remembered that a newer version of Custom recovery is available (v1.2) - here. But you still need to download a file and read the tutorial from that other forum I mentioned in the previous post.
what about the first part of the post? i think i might have added that after you replied i don't know... asking about the rom i found if it isn't the same i have on my phone. and asking if i can just add another country's one...

First backup your data, then download a factory ROM, it doesn't matter which version u download, what matters is the version. Make sure that it's 2.2 and not 2.2.1 or 2.2.2. Follow all the below steps without skippin any, no matter how simple or stupid they are.
Link for shipped ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865479
Now download KDZ updater and uncompress it
http://www.4shared.com/file/UleS4dP3/KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.html
Install msxml.msi from the uncompressed directory
Charge your battery to almost full state (I'm not sure, but it can be reason if phone doesn't start)
Turn phone off somehow (remove battery etc.)
Install drivers properly
Get rid of all usb drivers like Nokia, microsoft visual ++ run time environments
Install the LG drivers by selecting the update manager from the lg site
Disable LGE Virtual Modem. In your Windows operating system, go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Modems > Right click on LGE Virtual Modem and click Disable.
Press and keep pressed "Volume up"+"Return" and connect USB cable to phone
Yellow screen with text emergency mode should appeared
Shake the handset (I know, it sounds ... strange, but it helps for ones, so... why don't try it?) UPDATE: Read some quotes on bottom.
Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe (Has administrator).
Select Type : 3GQCT (I have one report that CDMA mod works too)
Select PhoneMode : DIAG (in case of fail try EMERGENCY, and as last chance use CS_EMERGENCY)
I Recommend do not switch phone off. There was some people, which done it and after they was not be able to turn it on again. If flashing failed, just select some another mode and try it again, again, try shake/connect disconnect, again, again....
In KDZ file : Choose the ROM file you downloaded in the first step
Press Launch software update
Shake the handset (I know, it sounds ... strange, but it helps for ones, so... why don't try it?) UPDATE: Read some quotes on bottom.
Now Root it via Z4root - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
Then install custom recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844483
Then download n flash any ROM of your choice, I wud sugget install Void or LOL.
Edit :- By the time I replied, many have already replied. Anyways you can check my reply too :-D
Mithun.
"it doesn't matter which version u download, what matters is the version."
does that mean it doesn't matter what country or operator the rom is for, as long as it is android version 2.2?
i have one from portugal (not my country) and that one is made for P500 mine is P500H... if that makes a difference i don't know, but i do know that rom is android 2.2. can i flash that one?
i also have one that i got from that topic following the instructions of putting my serial number, it linked me to a rom V10A_02... on KDZ when i try to read my device it says i have V10A_02 too. isn't that the same one i have now? with android 2.2.1? if it is it's very pointless to flash the same rom already in it.
any way to check?
because that is my last doubt ;p

As far as my knowledge goes, the LG P500h you have is the same phone as the P500, only branded for Telus. The hardware should be identical, therefore you may use any ROM designed for the P500 family.
The only thing you may miss if you install a ROM not customized for a Brasil (or South America) network operator is the internet acces point name, thus rendering your phone unable to acces the internet trough its data service connection, but only trough WiFi. Nevertheless, the phone's APN can be configured manually, all you need are the correct settings from your mobile operator and you're good to go.
Ok since you guys told me i can go ahead and flash any country ROM i just did and now my device burst into flames and then the flames consumed my apartment.
ok, not. it worked too well actually, i did the kdz procedure on my win 7 anyway, despite the errors when reading device info, and it took like, 1 minute, rebooted, took like 2 minutes on the android screen then it came back, with all my data still there... i thought it didn't do anything but... its now version 2.2
i tried z4root, worked ... got the superuser app and.... i'm happy ^^ thaaaanks!
anyway about the custom recovery thing..
i'm going to install the one in that post you gave me...
but i read something about the best one being clockwork something...
shouldn't i go ahead and install that one?
or can i do everything i need with this one you guys linked?

You can do anything you need with ThunderG. Now that version 1.2 supports backup and restore of ext4 partitons (a feature you don't need if you don't plan on installing a custom ROM... but you will, eventually ), it is complete.
Moreover, in ClockworkMod's first topic says: "This recovery will not allow you to flash every ZIP file". ThunderG does, if you choose to allow flashing of unsigned zip files. Sometimes this is useful.
Peeeeeerfect
Recovery installed, LOL ROM installed, all fast smooth and error-free.
no more screen touch lag, it's soooooo much faster now, overclocked, i have yet to test my emulators but i can only guess they're gonna be at least 150% better lol.
thank you all very much for taking the time to help me ^^
ONE LAST QUESTION: I PLAN ON BUYING A NEW SD CARD, JUST PLUG IT IN AND IT'LL FORMAT THEN CREATE THE NEEDED FILES THEN I INSTALL STUFF BACK ON IT, SIMPLE AS THAT?
Simple as that =D
Although there are some criteria with the sd card or you'll get unmounting problems.
Use a class 4 or higher card
format with fat32
I've never officially tried this method but its apparently supposed to help
allocation unit size: 64kb when you're formatting

[Q] Kuno tablet

I recently received a Kuno Tablet. It has the same physical characteristics as the 10.1 except for the lack of a hdmi out. Its running android 2.3.1 with a 1.2ghz processor. I have been trying to find some way to root this tablet for a few days now and have had no luck whatsoever. As far as I know no one else has even attempted to root one of these. Help of any kind would be appreciated and I will do my best to answer any questions. I am considering trying petes root tools or gingerbreak but i have my doubts that this will work. I have tried to put the device into some sort of recovery mode but have had no luck so far with any of the button combinations I tried.
Hi xsurferx,
the Kuno really looks like the Archos 101... the chinese engineers are incredible.
Under the hood there's different hardware working.
The manufacturers website mentions a [email protected]
http://mykuno.com/kuno-specs.html
Due to this fact there's nothing in common with the way Archos created the firmware on the A101 and the way you could root this device.
You could try to find out how the firmware looks like on your Kuno... but i guess this is not the right place to discuss these things.
Anyway, good luck!
scholbert
Progress
Any progress on trying to root the Kuno tablet? Superoneclick says that it roots it successfully but Superuser does not get installed. Is there at least a way to flash Gapps onto it? I can't even set up a gmail account unless I use the IMAP settings
super one clicks havent worked for me yet either however, i do work for the high school that i attend on their tablets and anything else they need done, through contact with the company that created the tablets ive learned that the tablet does not have a recovery mode and that the tablets actually have to be imaged like a computer would. So once i get my hands on an image i should be able to modify it to allow root access. If that fails im going to try rooting it through adb and installing superuser that way as well
what shcool has the funds to buy tablets like that?
So you just help them>?
lots of them
Many schools are going to one to one devices to try and help students learn and while they are expensive most of it is payed for by grants and other funds. I do anything they need from pc to mac and android. The tablets will be given out to freshman this coming semester and they want to see just how locked down these are and im assuming that rooting them will be the first step to unlocking them from the cirruculumloft software they are using. They want to see how to unlock them so they can prevent it in the future. Which is where i come in.
Status...
The kuno tablet has a recovery system that can only be accessed by flashing a new firmware to it, however, it is not possible to get this firmware without getting it from the company that made the tablet. So...in order to root the tablet you have to create a custom firmware from scratch for the tablet because the firmware on the tablet was designed in such a way that the android market can not run on it. The company removed the directories and other items the market needs to run. You can not connect the tablet through adb, nor can you install from SD or even access the SD card from inside the firmware the tablets are currently running. In order to root this tablet we would need to create a custom firmware and then flash it onto the tablet. Anyone interested in trying? Also, super one clicks will brick the device, I'm surprised yours still worked after that.
new discoveries
The market will run on the tablet, i was lied to on that one. The tablet connects through adb very easily and most commands work in adb. unfortunately you can not reboot into recovery or the boot loader through adb
unrevoked won't find my tablet. what do i do now?
this
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=unrevoked+won't+find+my+kuno+tablet,+What+now?
I work for a company that will be selling these Kuno tablets to schools. A CurriculumLoft Employee told me these tablets are not approved by Google so that makes them not able to use the android market. I have found that these can use the Amazon App market.
Figured it out!!!
After working on this for the better part of 6 months i have finally achieved root and flashed a custom rom with CWM recovery installed. I found that the Kuno tablet is essentially the same as the Arnova 10 G2 tablet with the exception of hard drive size. Here is the link to the site and instructions i used to flash the rom. If any one has any questions let me know.

I followed these instruction. I have the Kuno 3 I'm trying to image with this ROM. The screen is split and the touch is not responsive. Any ideas? Did you have this problem?

xsurferx is no longer working on this project. He doesn't have a kuno 3 and recommends you don't try the above method, as it is not for a kuno 3.

[Q] Udo all changes for warranty

HI,
I used the search but could not find anything about this topic also I'm pretty sure there has to be someone who posted about this before.
I have some battery issue with my gen 8 101 and want to send it in for warranty. I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with urukDroid which I'm using since I got the tablet a year ago. Anyway... I want to ask if there is a How-To for undoing all changes so Archos doesn't claim the warranty to be voided. I'm not sure if there is a way Archos might not recognise that I rooted and installed custom ROM but I'm pretty sure that this would be easier than to argue with them about if the custom ROM destroyed my battery or not...
thx 4 your help
Using:
UrukDroid 1.6 (installed on internal memory)
rooted with SDE from Archos + EasyInstall 1.5 from UrukDroid
http://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/Installation
If you installed the SDE your device is watermarked and you can't remove that.
But there are no known incidents where Archos has claimed that.
Thanks!
1. Since the Watermark is only in the software I think it shold be possible to remove it. It's not like the HTC unlocker where you have to give them your phones hardware id
2. As it is most likely to be very hard to remove the watermark I'll try and just flash stock ROM. I hope you're right and I won't be the first 'incident'.
No, it's not in software, they write it to an internal hardware component.
I'm pretty sure was long as you didn't brick it with SDE, Archos will accept it. I know someone here got the digitizer replaced and they used SDE.
Installing the SDE modifies something in the bootloader and the DRM keys are wiped (they probably do this to avoid key extraction and cloning via custom FW).
But, like they said, no one with a hardware issue came back telling they got their warranty service denied due to SDE installation.
Probably more a Cover Y A thing to avoid warranty replacement of bricked units.
There are no DRM Keys in the Gen8.
You might be talking aout Gen7
Thx again. But I now just have to ask: Do you recommend to wipe and install stock Rom? Or is it okay if I just leave UrukDroid installed? I can't find my Nandroid backup at the moment so it basically I wanted to:
1.enter recovery mode.
2.Try to follow this path and reformat my device.
3. Then do a fresh install of the firmware.
Is this the right way?
Sorry to ask those lame questions but I don't have much time at the moment for trying
As there is no nandroid, you can't have a backup, so yes that's the way to go.
Alright Archos send me a Mail today that they replace it and a new 101 G8 is on the way to me.

That's great news for all of us and a clever move from Archos.
