Then you download either setcpu or CPU tuner from the Market to control the clock speed but that's it. You'll have to tinker with it to see what your phone can handle and what battery life is like. Read the thread for whatever kernel you install, most questions you have will be answered there.

tell me when you do all that..
in setCPU Select auto detect speed...thats when u open the app for the first time..that option is the middle one
it will ask for root
allow it
when it enters...
select set on boot
try changing from conservative to performance or powersave
in the to thing [----------|--] yuh can now select the speed
[----------|--]
Not to sound like a n00b (too late) how do i install this dragon kernel lol
I might be off my rocker, but I have always been taught that you never select "set on boot" until you know what your phone can handle.
For instance, if he sets on boot and then hits performance 1.4ghz and his phone freezes, he could be ****ed because when he turns his phone back on its going to set it to performance 1.4ghz, which may cause him to freeze right off the bat again and infinitely thereafter.
Lemme know if my ****s all retarded.

Just like you flash a rom, just don't wipe anything. Make a nandroid first incase something goes wrong or you don't like the kernel.

flash it like a ROM or you can get the SGS kernel flasher from the market and use that.
MAKE A BACK UP!!
i would also recommend using the 'on demand' setting in SetCPU as it helps with battery, and can be tweaked using the adv. settings (but i wouldnt get into that just yet ... just set to ondemand for now)
i usually get into recovery mod and create a back up, then flash the kernel. If it flashes correctly make a new backup - i have not been able to restore from a backup that used a different kernel. If you use SGS kernel flasher, you can back up the original kernel if you find your phone doesnt like the OC one.
good luck, let us know how it goes.
So i reinstall packages? Can i do this via Clockwork recovery?
So i put it in the root of my internal sd and reinstall packages?

so download the kernel you want to use and get it to your SD card (i ALWAYS use the primary SD, not ext). Either mount your sd card to your pc and transfer or DL straight to the phone.
Once there, power off phone and use the three button method to get to CWM recovery.
From there choose install zip from sd
select choose zip
scroll through folders to sd
select the .zip that is the kernel you downloaded
select yes
once the line says install complete, select go back and reboot
let reboot - will take a few mins (will wipe dalvick cache)
once booted, your phone will now have the ability to be overclocked, and you must use a program such as SetCPU (what i use) or voltage control (will be installed with the kernel).
hope that helps
Nah, just install to the root of your SD. Then choose install zip from SD. Then choose zip, then scroll to your kernel and select it. It will flash, should be pretty quick. Then you reboot system.

there are 2 kinds of dragon kernel, 1 is OC, the other is regular or tweaked up. do it thru red cwm recovery

cant really help you there, i use set CPU. End result is approx the same. Use it all the time to adjust battery usage ect. Can create power profiles ect - tons of reading available all over the net on how to use it.
you can probably just search this forum or google voltage control app and see what comes up. With it being overclocked right now its going to be a tweaking game to find out what settings increase performance but dont create a volatile or unstable os.
good luck!

Ok...I know this can be a complicated process if you run into issues...so here is a detailed how to...Make sure and READ thru the WHOLE post!!!!!
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. ROOT, Flash CWM Recovery
2. Create a FULL nandroid backup
3. Download a kernel of choice - links below
4. Put the kernel on root of sd, or you can leave it in download folder, but DON'T rename the file
5. Boot into Clockwork MOD recovery (either from ROM Manager or manually- hold volume up and down at same time and press power button, then select "apply sdcard: update.zip"
6. In recovery select "Install zip from sd card"
7. Select "Choose zip from sd card"
8. Navigate to the kernel file and select it
9. Let it install, it will take a few minutes...screen will go weird (black with big blue letters) then take you back to recovery.
10. Reboot phone
IMPORTANT: THIS BOOT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME...MAY BE 5-25 MINUTES...WAIT IT OUT. DO NOT PULL BATTERY. EVEN IF IT IS AT A BLACK SCREEN WITH SOFT KEYS LIT UP, DO NOT TOUCH IT. YOU WILL HEAR FEMALE VOICE. THIS IS NORMAL.
11. Once phone boots, download SetCPU from market and set the slider to desired Max. Do not select "Set on boot" and use Conservative mode.
ENJOY!!!!!
KERNEL LINKS:
- jt1134 - [RELEASE] Voodoo (v0.2) ext4 lagfix for Fascinate! Now with AOSP boot animations!
- Dirrk - [KERNEL] Dirrk v01 Voodoo lagfix OC/UV - For Dirrk OC kernels, use the D012 kernels, not D01: D012 - Dirrk > Open the link>select my folder>the samsung and you will see the D012 kernels...
***If you are using jt1134 kernels with boot animation ability, here is how to add it. Find the boot animation you like, download it to your phone. Do not unzip it. Use Root Explorer or Astro File Manager and copy the bootanimation.zip file into either system/media or data/local. Reboot phone to test out.
HOW TO DISABLE VOODOO LAGFIX
1. Use Astro File Manager or Root Explorer app...open the app
2. Navigate to sdcard/Voodoo folder
3. Create a new blank FILE named disable_lagfix....NOT A FOLDER
4. Reboot phone
IMPROTANT: THIS BOOT WILL TAKE EVEN LONGER THAN THE INSTALLATION OF VOODOO KERNEL BOOT...AGAIN, WAIT IT OUT!!!!! DO NOT PULL BATTERY.
NOTE: IF YOU ARE RUNNING ANY OF VOODOO KERNELS, VERSION 0.2+, YOU CAN FLASH ANY OF THE VOODOO OC KERNELS OVER...INCLUDING JT'S OVER DIRRK'S AND VICE VERSA...IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO A REGULAR KERNEL, YOU MUST DISABLE VOODOO FIRST...ALSO IF YOU WANT TO CREATE A FULL NANDROID BACKUP AS WELL, YOU MUST DISABLE VOODOO LAGFIX. IF YOU BACKUP WITH VOODOO ENABLED, YOUR DATA WILL NOT BACKUP. IF YOU RESTORE YOUR NANDROID BACKUP, THE KERNELS ARE NOT RESTORED.
If you ran into trouble, start HERE:
- Adrynalyne - How to completely remove Voodoo Lagfix
- Odin Files to get you back to stock
VERY IMPORTANT:
-Battery issue can be because your phone is too hot...pull battery and let it cool down for 5-10 minutes...then boot up and see if its there.
-IF uninstalling v0.1, create a FILE in sdcard/voodoo and NOT a folder...
-Once uninstalled v0.1, DELETE the disable_lagfix file, before flashing v0.2...
-Boots take may FOREVER in between changes, especially after uninstalling.....WAIT it out. It may be 5 minutes, may be 15. Don't start pulling batteries and using Odin just yet.
-READ all instructions carefully and FULLY....
-And lastly, ALWAYS do a nandroid backup.
Wow. Great write up. Thanks a ton for this

Nicely done. Concise and accurate
awwww man, if only this was posted this morning I wouldn't have called for a doa swap.. lol i thought my phone was fubar-ed earlier b/c of the oc kernel.. i finally got everything fixed the hard way by wiping and loading stock kernels.. that didn't work too well either.. long story short i got everything working but after i called for a swap and before this posted lol.. great post!
wish this was in place before i started flashing. lol. i had to learn the hard way. many flashes later i have learned what to do but this definately deserves a sticky so others dont have to go thru what luckly only took me a day to figure out but could have taken longer.
I've been running the 1200 kernal for a few days with no problems. I do have setcpu set to load on boot.....just curious if I should change it? And why? All seems OK.

Once you confirm that its completely stable even Dirrks says its OK to set on boot. You just wanna be 100% sure it is before you get caught in an endless boot loop. But yeah a couple days is long enough to ensure stability; go ahead and lock it in if you want
Is this rom and kernel really that much better than stock?
I guess I'm asking is battery life better and is the speed of the phone better with the lag fix??
I have Voodoo .2, and I set the bootanimation in both folders, both in system/media, and data/local, and the standard animation keeps playing anyway.
Anyone have any ideas ????

Yes this kernel with voodoo is that much better. Voodoo isn't that BS one click lag fix. Its a real permanent solution." Basically" the same filesystem all other phones come with.quadrant can do 17-1800 which isn't inflated. Its what the galaxy can actiually do. And that just with eclair(2.1) battery life is the same. The phone will likely never lag on u again. And actually with a normal filesystem its prolly the fastest smoothest running phone out there. Would easily put the second generation snapdragons to Shame. If u try it u will be hooked. It is *VERY IMPORTANT* that before u flash any other kernels that u disable ur lagfix first. This can also be done easily with the app "voodoo toggle" in the market. If you like your phone now you will love it now. Take the plunge. You wont regret it. Just do your reading and follow instructions on how to install and remove voodoo to a T and you will be fine.

Wound up having to restore an old voodoo, the v. 0.2 standard clocking one, from a jt's 1.2 OC kernel. The restore worked fine, but I'm currently trying to disable in order to flash stock kernel and a clean ROM and then get voodoo back. The boot up has been going on for about an hour, heard to voice at the beginning and about 20 minutes in. How much longer will it take? I'm getting kinda nervous as I really don't want to have a bricked phone on my hands.
EDIT: It was about 2 hours and I pulled and went to go do an odin restore. The phone flashed PIT, system, kernel and recovery all successfully, I wiped everything from both clockwork and the blue 2e recovery screen, but now I can't access clockwork nor does the phone boot, however it does appear in adb. Does anybody know what I should do?
EDIT2: Reflashed all the files from Odin, got it to boot both into clockwork and pure stock. Gonna go flash a nandroid and get my setup back.
You can use the disable_lagfix as a folder, I have tried it and it works. Voodoo is looking for anything disable*lagfix so it works even with a dash, space, numbers...
I followed each and every direction to the last word, however I can't seem to overclock my phone. I installed the jt1334 kernel, but the max i can go is 1ghz (1000000mhz). help?
EDIT: In addition, I did both a linpack and Quadrant Standard test. my linpack score was "MFLOPS:8.142" and my Quadrant
Standard score is "950".... i don't understand what I did wrong as I see others have QS scores of 1600+ at least 1200+...

I have the same issue. I thought it was originally because I extracted the bootanimation.zip out of the downloaded file but renaming the original file didn't work either.

If its just the voodoo 0.2 file, then boot animation wont work. It has to be the 1000_bootabimation kernel or the 1200_bootanimation one.
I actually fixed it somehow... I don't necessarily know what I did though. But thank you for your help!

Will this work on any Tablet thats ROOTED? So i would just download it...and set whatever preferences i want? (Within my range that is). Don't need to have nothing special to have or use this app besides being ROOTED?
Well, ideally, yes, it should work on any "rooted" device... unless the kernel restricts scaling... something like perflock in HTC kernels (SetCPU works with perflock, but something similar custom to another manufacturer might prevent scaling).

Do you have a GTab? What would you know about it working with a GTab? My Tab runs fine. Doubt there is a real NEED for me to try this. Then blow something up lol.
SetCPU or CPU master only works on kernel that have OC enabled. It will not OC stock kernel even if rooted.
SetCPU latest version also allow undervolting to keep the GTAB running cooler. Reduce voltage by -50mv on all setting above 1000 will be fine. Most GTAB ROM have the Pershoot kernel preloaded now and it is OC enabled to 1.4Ghz.
As of now, 1.4Ghz OC is so stable, it is a breeze to enable. Don't worry.
Good luck.
I'm not too savvy with this kinda stuff. If i do something wrong...could ruin the Tab. Is yours 1.4GHz? Does it seem WAY MORE faster then it was? I mean..if its that much worth it...send me a PM...with steps for me to do...ill give it a go. As long as it wont overheat an nothiong bad happens.
By the way..i have VEGAn TAB Gingerbread Edition 7.0. Which was on my Tab when i got it. Dont know any other info.
Oh..the kernal version says: 2.6.32.36-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1.

If you are using a stock factory ROM then you cannot overclock, you need to flash a custom ROM which includes the OC enabled kernel. If you have no idea how to flash a custom ROM then you should just use the GTAB as is but change the Launcher to VTL to make it more Android like.
If you are using a custom ROM, then install SetCPU and set it to 1.4Ghz to test the tablet but do not set it on boot until you are happy with it.
The gtab flies when overclocked, even @ 1.4ghz you can feel how fast the menu works, I currently run at 1.6Ghz

Cant be as easy as you say...theres certain settings to NOT go over and such. Thats what im trying to find out now. The correct settings and if it will work with what i have..in terms of Kernel.

Actually, it is that easy. The Android kernel provides a list of speeds. SetCPU uses that list. Most common kernels are very conservative in what they allow. If you look hard, you can probably find a kernel that allows you to drive your CPU faster than it can handle, but they are usually well-labelled as such. I know there was a kernel for my G2/Vision/Desire Z that allowed the stock-1ghz processor to be overclocked to over 2ghz. Very few units were reliable at that speed, but some people like to push the envelope.

What about the settings for MY G Tablet? What would they be if you know?
In about device..it says Kernel Version:2.6.32.36-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1. Would the SetCPU work with this?????????? The thing im worried about the most...is putting the wrong settings...and have my Tablet overheat then somehow blow up from there lol. You know. I just want the right settings. Does anyone know the correct settings?
No way to brick the phone by mistake using this? What are the bad side effects?
I dont need to try to do something crazy. Just a little more speed. I notice it takes longer to start up now. That VEGAn TAB blinking screen stays on longer then before.
Edit 2: One more question..if there was something you didnt like about it...does just uninstalling it put your phone right back to how it was? Or a little more tweaking you need to do before you uninstall?
Edit 3: Now im reading it can't be uninstalled huh? Except with ROOT Explorer. But even with that...when i uninstall it..does all settings goe back to like you had it before?
Setcpu is simple:
1.Turn on app
2.Select - detect settings automatically
3. Slide the adjustment bar to min on bottom and max on top.
4. Uninstall and all will be normal
5. Quit now if you're scared of "blowing up" your tab, seriously its not difficult

Nandroid backup thru ClockworkMod. VEGAn 7.0 has it installed. Look at ROM Manager (presuming you have it installed) and check the top entry (ClockWorkMod) a.k.a. CWM. Not sure exactly which version the GTab uses (search the Forums) and check you are running that one.
Boot to CWM and navigate to Backup and Restore. Choose Backup. That will make a full backup of yout GTab so if you foul up anything you can Restore back to just before your started any changes. (A life-saver, really). It backs up your ROM, settings, etc etc. TiBu (Titanium Backup) only backs up apps.
Trust me. You will learn more from screwing up than anything! I sure did! And still do.
Do a nandroid backup then report back. One step at a time.
Here's where you can follow to install ClockWork Mod (CWM) just in case.

Damn..was hoping to avoid this kinda stuff lol. Well..i must have CWM right? Since i have the VEGAn TAB 7.0. Man...im always afraid to try this boot in CWM stuff..in case something goes wrong.
To get OUT of CWM..just restart the Tablet right? Say i go into CWM now...and say "Nevermind"...to get out..just restart?
Edit: In one of my posts on here..someone said ROM Manager was BAD for this device. 2 people said that. I hope i find which thread its in. I think the ROM Manager thread i made. So thats why i never installed it. Otherwise..it sounded like the easiest way for me to do all this ROM switching stuff. But said it was bad for this Tablet.

You really need CWM. Believe me, you will use it and feel better and better about it as you learn.
To get "out" of CWM keep toggling till you get to Reboot. It will show at the top of the menu.
I just remembered that with the version of CWM the GTab uses you might not see the Reboot choice but will see a line pop up that says something like Back Button Enabled (or something like that). That's your cue to toggle up and down the Volume key once or twice and the menu will change. Then you will see the Reboot option appear.

I'm sure you are aware of this, but overclocking is a big no-no. Overclocking should only be done if you want to push your device to the absolute physical limit, not to improve performance. A lot of people (including me) reported random reboots and shutdowns and touchscreen malfunctions, even when using a 804MHz clock speed.
If you want performance, the safest way to go would be applying (and flashing) tweaks. I use GadgetCheck's V8.5 Turboboost along with Slaid's FastMOD. It's cool and the change is quite noticeable.
Okay, enough of the OC rant.
Firstly, you need to install a custom recovery. For the Ace, we have ClockworkMod's Recovery, available in two versions: 4.0.0.9 (official support) and 5.x.x.x (non official, but it works just as well).
Secondly, BACKUP your device with CWM Recovery, just in case anything unfortunate happens. If something ****ty does happen (and trust me, it WILL happen), you can just restore your backup you made earlier.
Now, you just need to choose your preferred ROM. Here some of the most used ROMs:
1. Custom stock ROMs.
They are mostly stock ROMs with a lot of visual and perfomance tweaks. It won't outperform CM-based ROMs, but battery life is [relatively] excellent.
2. CM7 ports
Currently, we have 3 (or 4 was it?) CM7 ports. The original port of CM7 was compiled by Behrad (he's not developing for Ace anymore, unfortunately) and is quite old. Another one by Grif_07. Those two are based on CyanogenMod 7.1 and are quite awesome and stable. Then there's a newer one by Axel based off CyanogenMod 7.2. Seriously, I don't notice much difference, except for a slight improvement of performance.
CM7 ports and ROMs are also famous for their miserable battery life (on the Ace, anyway. I don't know on any other devices).
3. Ice Cream Sunday Final Based on Axel's CM7.2 port
This ROM is renown for it's absolute blazing speed and lightness. I can't even comprehend how Jusada managed that. Even without flashing tweaks, it's still lightning fast.
But performance requires sacrifice, and ICSunday Final is no exception. Although it has some fancy transition animations, it's barebones, meaning that non-important apps are removed. These include the default File Manager, DSP Manager and the Spare Parts utility for Android.
4. GingerCruzt 2.3 Based on Axel's CM7.2 port
This is quite a semi-antithesis of ICSunday. It's not as fast, but it's really, very, extremely beautiful. Apart from that, it has some Sony Ericsson features such as the Bravia engine and xLoud. It's also not barebones, so most of the default apps are still there. Developed by nims11.
5. Infinity ROM Based on Axel's CM7.2 port
A newcomer (released, like, three days ago). If you thought GC2.3 was beatiful, wait till you see this one. Developed by the same developer, it's ungodly gorgeous and I love it half to death. Unfortunately, the reason I'm not using it right now is because it's too transparent. Not 70% or 75% transparency, but full blown 100% transparent, which causes some text difficult to see.
Okay, I may or may not update this post with links, but hopefully I will.

Hi guys i've customised sony ericssons before but i am a total noob when it comes to this. Can somebody help me I am running on 2.3.3 on my new galaxy ace phone. As far as I know its not rooted I bought it from the shop, I want to overclock from 800Mhz to the possible 921Mhz, and I would like some better visuals. Can somebody help me choose a good rom and give me a quick guide on how I will install it without cocking my phone up ?
Many thanks,

See my sig and then decide if you really want to overclock
Do NOT overclock. I repeat, do not overclock
Not stable on 921mhz.
Everyone cool down.dude in ma opinion try ics final which has Oc kernel from beginning .but if u want to try another rom which don't have oc kernel flash ketut kumajyas Kernel patch. Remember oc kernel will only work on cm7 based roms. To change frequency go to cyanogen settings > performance than first try frequency of 844 as min and max both. never ever check the box restore settings on boot. Now on each frequency do tests like playing games to see your phone is stable or not. When you got the frequency on which your phone is stable check the box restore cpu settings. Now you have perfect oc
If I helped u in any means hit the thanks button..........

It depends on the device. My phone can handle overclocking up to 840MHz or so, while my mother's phone (also SGA) can't even handle an OC kernel, even though it's not OC-ed.

hey thanks for the replys!
I have managed to install Clockworksmod recovery 5 and I have backed up and saved the backup file to desktop.
I want to install ICS Final and in the instructions it tells me to:
You need cwm5 installed, then wipe system, partition and davick. . . .then go to mounts and wipe data, system and cashe.
then install zip
after install, go through set up then set oc if you use and any other settings then reboot.
I can find the option for wipe data/factory reset
is partion on advanced, partion sd card? and my sd card is 2gb do i click 2048 mb?
then wipe dalvik cache?
Then is it format /data , /system /cache?
Then do i install the ICS zip from my sd threw clockworkmods recovery?
Thanks!

Are you trying to partition your SD card through CWM? If so, don't click on 2048, but on how big you want your ext partition to be. If you don't know what ext partitions are, you better just skip that part.
Yes, flash ICSFinal through the "install zip from sd card" option.
hey guys i really appreciate the replys but i have managed to brick my phone, i think lol. I backed up with clockworksmod recovery and flashed ICS final and all went well but I prefer the stock rom. I tryed to recover and when I did i just get stuck at the samsung gt etc... screen. So I have just flashed again to ICS and it seems I am stuck on this now.
My sd is stuck into the phone aswell so I cant attempt to take it out, anybody have any ideas what is wrong? Thanks

Wohoooo it is time for Odin flash.
OK solution-simple you can't use that backup. Go to sammobile website from there you can download latest firmware of your area(continent) and download a cooper. Ops file. There is a guide in sammobile on how to use Odin flash. Read it carefully if any problems then ask here. All above mentioned files can be found in website.
Reason -u can't use backup bcz stock rom flash our system with rfs format and ics with ext4 format. So backups doesn't not change system type.......

At first I thought that overclocking is cool and good but it just uses power and my sgs2 is fast enough underclocked to 1ghz, though if your phone has some lag, maybe then u should overclock slightly, but if it's lag free, I wouldn't recommend to overclock

I have downloaded my firmwire, will united kingdom be unlocked because the only 02 network i see is on german. What did you mean by a cooper file? Thanks
Sorry mate thing is my mobile doesn't have network lock so do not know the answer plzz ask anybody else before proceeding. And about cooper. Ops file read the Odin guide u will get it.

Help guys. I rooted a buddys fascinate. Had a backup but I accidentally wiped that too.
We were comparing phones and I had him run Quadrant and using ROM Toolbox I had him slide his CPU all the way up. Phone reboots now about a minute after you boot into the phone. Not enough time as its still loading/media scanning to get to the app and turn sliders back down.
I thought ADB would work through CWM and I could pull the app but that didn't work.
I flashed the same kernel (KGB over a touchwiz ROM) on top of it hoping it would reset but no luck.
What are my options?

i have. it still reboots about a minute after booting - i assume because ROM Toolbox is still there trying to set CPU?
Edit: also, i'm a little surprised i wasn't able to ADB through recovery? It was on the same laptop i rooted it with so I'm sure the drivers are there. Wire is OK as I was browsing the SD card.
Edit #2: ok i'm losing my eyesight. last night i saw a link to a stock eh03 kernel I was going to try. I figure if the kernel doesn't support OC'ing, i could get in. uninstall the app and flash the KGB kernel back. can you point me to the stock kernel or at least one w/out OC'ing support?
(hes running TSM EH03 btw)
Edit #3: ok found the stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19865577&postcount=140
now i just need to get off work.

your going to have to wipe data unfortunately...hopefully his contacts are synced with google and apps backed up with titanium backup. You could try pulling the sd card and putting in a pc to get contacts, pictures...etc, but the phone is going to need a data wipe.

where are contacts stored then?

Edit* Not sure where the contacts are stored, somebody can hopefully chime in there.
Also one thing you could try is going into the sd card via pc and deleting the rom tool box app in system/app folder. I have not tried this before...so it may or may not work! You can try flashing the stock kernel, but Im not sure if that will do anything either. Never really been in this situation since I keep all my stuff backed up.
droidstyle said:
No because the kernel dont overwrite the app data...your OC app(rom tool box) still has the voltage script written in the initd folder and the stock eh03 kernel is capable of being OC'd...so nothing will change there.

DAMN IT.
Voltages? I didn't change voltages. Just CPU Sliders. Think the nstools reset zip might work?
Also, I followed you guide to flash TSM, so I'm pretty sure its running CWM 2.5.1 (its all red). Shouldn't I be able to adb in through recovery and take out the init.d script/modify text values for the CPU/Pull the ROM Toolbox apk/etc?
Edit: YES YES YES.. sd card via PC.. but.. how do I get to the /system/app through SD card on PC while in recovery. All I get is the SD card contents?

Im sorry I meant mhz not voltage lol...
scratch the sd card idea, you cant access the system from pc.
If you are familiar with adb, then yes I believe what you said above will work. One thing tho, stock kernels do not support init.d scripts. So if your on the stock kernel, the rom toolbox app must be applying the OC on boot. I think your best shot is to pull the RTB.apk via adb.

I haven't tried stock kernel yet. So if it doesn't support init.d, and thats how its being set - seems a valid theory that flashing it would get me back into being able to boot OK.
Whats RTB.apk?
And any ideas as to why I can't adb in when in recovery? Just a driver issue you think? I used the same laptop to root his phone so i figured drivers would be good, so I didn't explore that much last night. USB Mount worked OK obviously.

(ROM TOOL BOX. APK) lol
If rom tool box is setting the OC at boot and not using init.d script, then no flashing a stock kernel wont fix it.
The samsung driver you used wont work with adb, you need the nexus google driver. A simple Google search will pull it up.
Fyi, the next time you run into issues, a full detailed writeup on the devices setup and exact methods used to get there would help alot.

Hmmm.. Maybe I made a false presumption (being the owner of a Nexus S 4g, totally pimped the hell out btw) that I already had those drivers. Thank you man. You pointed me in the only possible right direction.

Im about ready to take the plung and change my phones stock 2.2 rom for an ICS rom. I think I'm gonna go with ICSlim but I have a few questions first.
1. Will I be able to transfer over the preloaded movie that came with my phone?
2. The steps for installing ICSlim are not very clear. It mentions first updating to a CM9 rom first before updating to ICS, does that sound right? Can some one give me a simple run down of what I gotta do from after installing CWM?
3. Can I get memo and swipe on ICS?
4. If something goes wrong during installation is there any way to recover from it? Does vibrant have something like NVflash?
1. Yes and no. Yes, the movie Avatar will remain on your SD card after upgrading to ICS. However you will not be able to play it.
2. Yes that's partially correct, however I believe you meant CM7. For a detailed break down of the installation process go here.
3. Yes, you can get them. To download Swype you must register as a beta tester here. It's very simple to do and only takes a couple minutes. Once registered you can download and enjoy Swype all over again. You can download the Touch Wiz memo app here. Instructions are included in the .zip.
4. Yes. Before wiping data or even installing a rom in CWR, do a nandroid backup. Here's some simple instructions from the noob guide in the Q&A section...
Clockwork Recovery / Nandroid Backup!
Reboot into CWR (both volume buttons held in) while booting until you see “Vibrant'
Once there, go to Backup and run that. Should take about 5 minutes, maybe more.
If all hell breaks loose, this is a snapshot of your phone at that point... it's important to do this before flashing a new ROM!

not so sure about ics now...
After reading about the encryption error I dont think Im gonna move on to ICS after all.
Instead I'm just gonna fix up the stock rom. What are some must do things I should do to get my phone running fast? I know there is an app that removes the preinstalled crap from my phone but I dont know what its called. Anyone know the app Im thinking about?
Also does rooting your phone mess up the play store?
And what is the lag fix? I have seen it mentioned in a few other threads but never took the time to read up on it.
There is a Stock KB5 ROM in the development section. Also a few other Froyo 2.2 ROMs you may want to try.
I don't know of any de-bloater for our devices. You can always purchase TB and freeze them. My Slim_Ryder ROM is about as non-bloat as your can get for Froyo.
Rooting does nothing to play store. I do think it effects the Play Movies.
Voodoo Lag Fix -
In a nut shell. Samsung decided to use a $hitty as filesystem called RFS. A Voodoo lag-fix kernel can convert these RFS file system into EXT4. Much faster the RFS. This Lag-fix is only used in Froyo and Gingerbread (non CM / MIUI) roms. CM7 / 9 (or any ICS rom) uses YAFFS file system. This also requires the ICS kernel to repartition the entire device. Due to this fact if you ever flash CM7 / 9 / ICS / MIUI and want to go back to any Froyo / GB rom you must Odin back to stock with repartition checked.
Hope the info helps
Ty
Thanks for the info, the lag fix stuff is a big help especially
Is it true.....

still looking...
Still looking for the app that uninstalls the preinstalled apps on the vibrant.
You can do this yourself with Titanium Backup or any file explorer that has Root. They are in /system/app.
Sidenote: Before you get uninstall crazy, one of the benifits of TB is that you can Freeze and app. This lets you see if there are any unintended consequences by not allowing that app to do its thing. If all is good, then you can uninstall. Make a TB backup first though in case you ever want to reinstall.
Once you get all those bloat apps gone, reboot to recovery and wipe /cache and the advanced>wipe /dalvik-cache and it will clean your phone of anything those left behind. Will/should run snappier too. I actually do this from time to time to keep my stuff clean.
Just download the extended blu ray version and tada.
