[Q] x10i cant connect to 3G network - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i bought my x10 on taiwan and i even manage to connect to internet there and in singapore via 3G.. now when im here in the philippines, i cant even connect..
i ask for the hlp of cutomer care of one giant network here but then they told me that i really cant connect to 3G here in the philippines if your phone was bought outside.. is there any solution to this? i can only have internet thru wifi..

Obtain your providers APN service settings and import them into your phone
settings --> Wireless and networksettings --> Mobile networks --> Access point names (or something like that.. it's dutch here ) --> 'Menu button' --> New APN

well tnx you sir for the advice.. will be talking to customer servie tomorrow morning.. hope this one will fix the issue.. but again i think same problem will arise if ever i will be going outside the philippines.. sigh...

O2 XDA in HK and GPRS problem

I was recently in HK with my O2 XDA and couldn't get the GPRS to work, after spending an hour talking to the O2 support desk, I gave up.
Could someone who has their XDA working tell me what their 'connections' set up is?
I was told I had to dial into the O2 WAP GSM (CSD) line, but it never answers.
thanks

hmmm! well when u turn on your phone it should show the G logo near the signal bar for a while or rather click on the signal bar .there u will see the G for GPRS. If its now showing.....well i think theres no gprs.
Are u using the IE for your GPRS?
Which GSM Services Provider you are using? Go to check does your account including the GPRS service, if not, apply it. Then ask your GSM Services Provider to go thr. your GPRS setting with your xda.
I have use Smartone services for a long time in Hong Kong, so far so good.

HTC Hero 3G question

Hi,
I have a question about the 3g network. Well recently i tried connecting to vodafone and noticed that there is no 3g icon on the status bar unlike from the orange network. My question is that if there is no 3g icon, does this mean i do not have the 3 g coverage ? I tried connecting to the net, i put on the right settings APN, proxy.... but in vain. all i get is the message that i have to enable mobile connections which in fact is already enabled.
Can anyone here clear my mind please. thanks.
P.S I have no problems with the orange network. 3 g, Hspda everything works fine and fast.
You need to make sure you have a 3G SIM card for Vodafone. If you just pulled one out of an older phone (especially one that did not have 3G) then the SIM is probably only good for 2G (GSM/GPRS). The 2G and 3G SIM cards look identical, but they have different information on them.

for sure it is a 3g simcard. on other phones, coverage and data connection works fine but on the hero....
But on the Orange network are you not using an Orange SIM? And on the Vodafone network using a Vodafone SIM?
Only other thing I can think of is Vodafone don't have 3G coverage at the exact location you are trying?

well yes. i actually have two sims and 2 phones but i would have prefered to have the vodafone one on the hero. Vodafone do have the coverage cause my other phone do have the 3 g coverage.Cannot figure out where is the problem. Called the guys at vodafone and all they could tell me was that they do not have any settings for the phone, that they cannot help me cause they do not provide the pphone here.
Hmm....the APN setting and everything should be the same regardless of 2G or 3G data connectivity. Actually, that is something to check if you have not already. With the Vodafone SIM in your Hero when you go to Settings->Wireless Controls -> Mobile Network settings you might want to make sure "use only 2G networks" is not checked. Also make sure the Access Point Names is configured correctly. I don't know what they are for Vodafone, but a quick Google should tell you. Other than that, hmmm.........

Yep , i did everything right. still......
Try locking it in 3g mode. I have a rooted G1, you get to the menu by typing the following into the dialer:
*#4636#*
after entering that sequence it should goto a menu, pick the first item and scroll down and see if you can change from "CDMA preferred" to "CDMA only" or whatever your 3G equivalent is.
This is based off a G1 with a Hero ROM, so results may vary. Let me know if this works =)
Also make sure that you are switching over to the Vodafone APN settings. You can have the settings in correctly, but if you don't switch to that profile, then it will try using the Orange. This is the most common reason I have people in my store with data connection issues, they have the right settings, but didn't select the right profile.(I sell cell phone and cell phone accessories on a GSM network in the US, so I get a lot of unlocked phones in need of setup.)
Problem solved. A moderator could kindly please close this thread. thanks to all who helped. Cheers!!!

hi friend,
well there was nothing to fix as such. it was a misunderstanding.
One thing i came to know is that 3g will appear only is there is a data connection ...and if your apn is set correctly.
and another thing that was resolved is that htc hero cannot connect to vodafone live here in romania because it is only possible through wap bla bla bla a lot of crap.
This was the answer of vodafone representant: For the moment, the service vodafone live we provide cannot be accessed through new handsets with new browsers such as n97,iphone htc magic...

Can anyone help? - No Signal

Hi folks, can anyone please help me with this problem?
My brother in law has asked me to look at his S740. He has tried several o2 SIM cards (UK) in this phone but always gets told there is no signal.
Not only that, but there is a symbol where the strength meter should be that isn't documented in the user guide.
He has also tried my o2 (3G) sim and a Vodafone sim, both UK.
Any advice gratefully recieved. We have tried several hard resets also.
Thanks
This means it's looking for signal. My guess: Still SIM-locked?
.-ombre-.

Not sure if it's SIM locked as there is a menu to select which carrier to use.
It reads the SIM correctly and sets it all up for o2, but just doesnt get any signal.
Does anyone know where the GSM antenna is on these? Maybe its a bad connection.
UPDATE:
I've had a mail back from HTC that recommends I send it in for repair, lol.
Now do I take it they are robbing buggers or do I take it that the icon is an indicator of a hardware fault??
Hmmmm, dilemma. lol
Are there any more suggestions on what it may be?
Has anyone successfully taken one of these apart?
it may be because of a hardware error...try to connect to a wifi network...if it impossible to find a wifi network then it is due to a harware problem. Most likely because the FR coaxial cable is out of its possision...download the service manual and see how to fix it.

Hi sasiskas, it conects fine to my wireless network at home. I take it from your response that the cable serves a double purpose.
I downloaded the service manual so I could take a look, but only got as far as removing the 4 screws at the back. lol, I couldn't figure out how to get it off, lol
I'm still stuck at the assumption that it is indeed SIM locked, and so will try to find a suitable card to try out.

Thanks. I have tried the same but just keep getting a vender ID, (lol spelling), error.
I would appreciate any input whether you have success or not, it just may spark an idea off.
I cant get in touch with any sales or provider as it was gifted to my bro in law. He's not that bothered about it but would like to have it working if he can.
Thanks folks.
Hey! I think I know the solution to your problem...I had exactly the same problem when I hardReseted my phone.
Go to "Start-settings-Phone-Band Select"
and then select
1.Network type : Auto
2.Band Type : "Euro" if you live in Europe, "US" if you live in USA , or "Japan" if you live in Japan.
Good luck...Let us know if it worked!

Yes that is a good suggestion because the phone will display that icon if it can't find a *usable* network, be it that the SIM doesn't allow it or if the bands don't match the selection on the phone or the bands are not usable by the phone hardware etc.
I would suggest downloading & running HTC Field Test (fieldtest.exe) with & without a SIM installed, with each network & band setting & see if it shows any towers or signal. (Normally you want Auto for both but you may not have that option or you might prefer to set to a KNOWN working band to conserve battery & minimize searching) If should show something even without SIM or with SIM lock because it's supposed to support emergency calls either way. If it shows signals with SIM but you still have same no service icon then it's likely SIM locked (although the phone should alert you to that fact) so odds are the phone hardware, rom or settings do not support whatever signals are available to you. (Btw if field test shows N/A for all the values you need to app unlock your phone)
Hope that helps.
Bill
can you share a link with HTC Field Test?Thnx
Search is your friend.

Hey all I'm having a very similar problem.
Had my HTC for some months now but in the past few days I've found that my network signal is becoming very unpredictable.
I'm also on O2 and I used to have a pretty contstant H (I presume HSDPA) connection.
Howeever im finding now the phone with go from H to 3G to GPRS to E to no signal in the course of 5 mines and round and round again!
Its very annoying as it means I cant make / received calls or texts fluently and even cut me off on a phone call too.
However usually on phone calls it will keep me connected ok till I hang up and then go to no signal.
I've checked the wireless and it is picking up networks..
Any other suggestions? I will try the field test tomorrow...
PS I know its not the network as my work blackberry is O2 and is not having this issue..
Cheers in advance!
Well, just to close my input on this thread.
I tried various ROM's available from this site and none worked.
I did try the band selection settings but still a no go.
I did have limited success but overall, nothing. The phone has now gone back to the person who asked me to look into it and to my knowledge he is going to sell it to one of these phone reclaim companies.
I did check and one place, I think through the post office, is offering £80 ish so not bad I suppose.
Anyway, thank you to all who have made suggestions and wotnot. Personally I'm still happy with an old Nokia 6300 and my Wizard (Mini-S)
Thanks folks.

unable to connect to network

so i cant seem to connect to the rogers network at all,,,
i get a error "sim card cannot access network blah blah blah" when i try to select my network provider
ne ideas whats wrong??
this is very common problem on some android phones.. without proper solution yet.. i had (and still have sometimes!) this problem and searched lot for solution.. it is disscussed on this forum too.. just search it..
.. quick solution..
goto sim tool kit-roming setting-toggle and set it on SELECT VISITED NETWORK..
it keeps changing when you are out of reception area..
if your phone is rooted.. just FREEZE backup and restore app using titanium backup..
and check if it makes any difference..( i rather prefer to freeze it than uninstall..lol..)
these things are working for me .. hope it works for you too!!
yeah tried that, and also got a new sim card also. still no go T.T i still get the "Your sim card does not allow connection to this network" i read that i can reflash the radio rom but i have now idea where to do it, help please?
ok.. it should have solved by the things i suggested.. wel thats not the exact solution for this problem... better you talk to your service provider.. i assume that you are using x10a with rogers contract.. this is really a sick problem with these phones.. you can check the google thread for it.. there are hundreds of people with same problem on their phones..
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2845&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
im trying this stuff again, where is the STK option?? i cant seem to find it
open your HOME.. you can see it there in applications.. one with the symbol of sim card..
hhmmm i dont think i have it,,,
For me it helped to change my pincode on my old phone then put it in the x10 and boot
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
i dont get what u mean by changing pin code, i dont see nething stk app on my x10 T.T
Could try this, it worked for me a few days ago when I changed to a new sim.
Goto Settings, Wireless Controls, Mobile Networks, Network Operators. Let it scan and then pick Rogers. Afterward set it to automatic.
i get the "your sim card does not allow connection to this network" >.< i think my network card in the phone is dead,,,
that sucks! if you have tried everything suggested here.. better take it to rogers and ask for repair or exchange.. best luck buddy!
i think the network card is fried, and its not under warranty nemore so,,,,, this sucks T.T, call up local cellphone repair shop and they said its going to cost about $60 to replace the network card
Sorry if you've said or done this already....but have you gone into a store and tried getting a new sim yet?

How is it not under warranty anymore? Physical or liquid damage I assume? If not u got one year warranty and the phone only came out in Canada in April.

x10i has aws 3g band supported by t-mobile. you'll need t-mobile sim in order to get 3g working.

Go to the mobile networks settings. Go to network operators n check if there's a 3g connections available for ur current service provider (att). I don't think u can connect to another service providers network n expect it to work.. I don't know specifically abt att and t-mobile coz I'm in India
Also, in case u opt for a new sim from a different service provider, u may hv to remove simlock (which is a software thing, guides present here on xda) as most service providers lock the phone to their own network.
X10i is the international unlocked version though so u probably don't have to bother abt that.
Hope I helped
