Step 3: MMS!
What you need:
a. Android SDK---
b. Modified Telephony.db --
c. Have Eris phone flashed for talk text and web (see above if you have not done this).
1. Unzip android sdk to a place where you can find it (the shorter the directory name the better as you will soon see. Mine is saved in C:\android
Also unzip the telephony.db into a folder where you can find it. Mine is saved in C:\android
2. In windows xp click start, then run, then type cmd and hit enter. In Vista or windows 7 click start and type cmd in the search and hit enter.
3. Navigate to the folder where you unzipped the Android SDK. If you are not familiar with the command prompt, I will make a list of the commands I enter in blue. The rest you see will be the text that will be generated by the command prompt: CD the directory of adb!!! ex. type cd hit space the drag the tools folder into cmd window. now you can adb push/adb pull etc.
4. Type the Following command
C:\android\tools>adb root
* daemon started successfully *
adbd is running as root
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Send the Modified telephony.db to the phone with the following command (keep in mind that you will need to substitute the directory I am using for the one where your telephony.db file is located
C:\android\tools> adb push c:\android\telephony.db /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
85 KB/s (4096 bytes in 0.046s)
6. Unplug your Phone and hold the power button to turn it off. Turn it back on and there you go!
some roms arent allowing the telephony.db to work giving 245kb/s or any other like 130kb/s.
My advice is if you get one to work, do a Nandroid back up, so you will always have a working web browser and MMS.

Your instructions/title look exactly like Brandonharrison's post on howard forums, if you got the instructions from him it may be nice to give him credit Also you may want to change the words "Hero" to "eris" since this is an eris guide also you can skip the part about spc unlocking from CDMA WS, since the eris comes factory with spc of 000000.
Anyways if your tracking the thread on howard you can update the web portion, to what i posted to get full market and apps working, credit goes to the team at howard forums who worked on getting it working for the motodroid. i simply modified their work so that it would work on the eris.
As promised here is a zip file containing 2 flashable zips:
One will handle the OS side to get Web/MMS up and running
The other will only do the web portion (Some people don't have good luck with the MMS that i did)

so does the same process work for metro pcs and where can i get those files
Should work with any carrier so long as you know the proxy information and apn settings, in my zip you can modify the autostart.sh file and change the port numbers and ip addresses to match your carrier, then you can edit the apn to match your carriers settings as well and you should be good.
Im working on getting one for metro for you all, but i dont have all the info required and iv been busy with work, its really simple to do, i just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Use at your own risk, there are 2 flashes inside the zip, one for web and one for Web+mms, some people cant get the MMS to work, works fine for me, but not sure why it doesnt work for others.
Make a nandroid backup first as always and feel free to mod it however you want
You don't need QPST, and it is in fact easier WITHOUT QPST
You don't need Windows Vista or Windows 7 (or windows at all).
Thank you for your contribution for this community.
I posted a thread for full functionality as well, with a different methodology.
And "flash" is a misnomer. All of the kids who think they're cool "flashing" phones to cricket don't even know what they're saying.
This phone can be all but fully PROGRAMMED for Cricket, and the "flashing" part is just to save you time transferring iptables to the phone.

Your little thread needs some help don't flame in my post.... if your going to create a flash solution. ..please edit it fully like I made an attempt to do. And not just say "follow instructions from HF" that was pretty wack!

You don't need, QPST.
Just open up your phone, then dial ##778 (call).
ALL of the settings you need to edit in QPST are available in your phone's built in program, EPST.

bigslanki,
No flaming intended. I was being serious when I said thank you for your contribution. All I've done is copied and pasted things from other sources that have worked for me as I've tried them. I should edit it more fully and maintain it better. Thank you for your suggestion.
I haven't used QPST since the days of ##778 on this phone, and I was only suggesting that less tech-savvy people, who may have trouble getting QPST working just right in Windows, might have an easier time without it.
All is well. Thank you, seriously, for your contribution.
What is the newest/easiest way?
Looks like alot of advancements have been made in the last 3 or 4 months to make the process easier. Is this thread still the best way to get an eris setup on Cricket with full functionality?
Please help out a noob! I've read so many posts, tried so may methods...I think I am SOOOOO close! But I just can't get the web/mms working.
Thanks!
Will this work for HTC Incredible? I seem to be stuck. *228 calls cricket but a voice says they can not program my phone. I have tried nearly ALL the prl files for cricket available on the link. I can call 611 from it also and speak to a csr but that was little/no help..
Please change this to hero thanks
Web on Eris
So if my Eris is already activated on Cricket with talk and text, will flashing for web (rooting etc..) de-activate my phone?

If you have a 3g indicator in the notification bar of your phone (as long as you have Mobile Network turned on - hold the power button, and turn it on, if it's not on already), then you're ready to flash the web/mms flash.
Flashing the web/mms flash or ANY kind of flash from Recovery will NOT affect your talk/text abilities whatsoever. It can only enhance the ability of your phone to do things.
I recommend flashing the Cricket v10 flash from token419's thread here, then using APN Backup & Restore to backup your APNs, modify them, then Restore them to make MMS work perfectly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289
Let me know where you get stuck, if you get stuck.
Here's what I did, exactly, to get my ex-gf's working 100%
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7665352&postcount=135
thank you!
I also called a cricket store to ask this quistion, the guy mentioned that after today, cricket will launch there own google android phone, so anyone with a flashed android phone will have to pay the $60 Plan. any idea if this is true?

That's not true.
But if you go into the store, and ask for your Android phone to be on Cricket, then yes, you'll have to pay for the plan.
Otherwise, unless they're keeping inventory of customer provided equipment (which they never have before), you're fine.
In their notes they just have 'customer-provided equipment' listed, not HTC Droid Eris.
I wouldn't worry about it. My ex-gf has this going on, so we'll see. Sprint is $69.99 for a better/faster/more reliable network, so if Cricket does this, they might lose out to that, unless people really use the unlimited minutes.
Quick question. I am very new to the android unlocking scene but I have done a good amount of research. Step 1 of this guide shows us how to get text and talk working for cricket (and I'm assuming Metro as long as you load the Metro prl). What I want to know is Step 1 EXACTLY the same as getting MetroFlashed minus adding the esn to Metro's db?
The reason I want to know is because I got my phone MetroFlashed and set up data and mms. The next day I did a hard reset. Contrary to others beliefs doing so put me back on Verizon so I brought it back to be flashed again. Now I'm reading this and would like to know if Step 1 is all I need to do to get back on Metro in the event I need to do another hard reset for whatever reason.
So, when I get to the license menu, it asks for name and serial number. How do I enter my name and what serial number do I use?

After using the program for over a month, I was just randomly asked this by my device. Entering the serial number (behind the battery) did not do a thing. I tried deleting the bandswitch program from the program list (settings, delete programs). nothing. (I am not getting ANY connections)
I tried a system restore using SPB backup saved about 3 weeks ago. Tried backing up from an even further restore point with SPB backup.
nothing.
Connection manager cannot find ANY connections. unable to manually configure network. using At&t simcard never had a problem til now. everything was great. WHAT HAPPENED!?
I can't use my phone at all. I'm gonna have to wait until I get home and reflash/reinstall ROM to start fresh. But I really shouldnt have to (!). checked with at&t/cingular (california, usa) no problems with towers or anything on their end.
wtf.

You need to buy the license to get it, from the website..
Then need to enter the Owner Info (name). This menu is hidden by default. U need tweak to enable Owner Info. U can use BsB Tweak from here.
The owner name i located in Setting Tab >> Menu >> All Setting >> Personal >> Owner Info.
Actually, there's several alternative to Bandswitch which is free. U can use WMLongLife (search it) which have more option. Or u can add 3G Enable Comm Manager (to enable/disable 3G) and in combination with Advanced Configuration Tool (to get disconnect idle connection setting).
Bandswitch is not freeware. Install Touch Tools instead. It has an option for auto-disconnecting data, among other options.
Unless im missing something i cant see an option on the SGSII to copy and paste in contacts, i have a Wi-Fi password saved in my contacts it's my local pub where regulars can use the Wi-Fi and the Manager gave us the password, generally once you connect it's no problem as it saves, but after doing a full wipe/flashing a new ROM i need to enter the password in again and a few weeks ago i tried to copy and paste the password( which i have saved in my contacts) but i couldn't see anything to do it with so i had to manually type it in and it takes a few minutes as it's a long password so does anyone know a way this can be done, bit of a funny request but would be good to know.
Cheers

With this method of unlocking could I bring my Note Edge to Verizon? I've been told by both Verizon and Sprint reps that this cannot be done, but I am leery of them for obvious reasons and based on what I've read online....which is that it might be possible.
It is possible.. just not conventional. Both verizon and sprint are cdma based, however they are on different spectrum. So, while you can activate it. Something will be broken. etc. Mms, data, sms.. i would just sell the phone and get a Verizon variant. I hear they have a developer edition?? XD

Why don't you just Odin kk firmware?
So, I got a Zte Avid Plus z828 (t mobile no sim card) that has frp so basically i cant get pass the google account verification screen. I have found a way to get into the settings and enable developer mode without no otg method or apk methods. I simply used the text to speech method where i open the source for that and then open up google and search settings allowing me to access the settings and enable developer mode via build version.
Now here's the problem I can click backup and reset but when i actually click RESET PHONE nothing happens. I can keep on clicking it and nothing will happen it's a button thats just there. I want to enable USB debugging with hopes of using adb shell and wiping the phone that way but i can't even access the developer settings. I click on the developer settings and nothing happens its the same situation with the RESET PHONE option. Why is this occurring? Anyone have any advice as to how i can get around this? I've tried downloading apks that would open the developer settings but it opens for less then a second then instantly closes. I'm new here so i'm not even sure if this is where i was supposed to even post this, sorry if it wasn't the correct place to post this. if you need me to elaborate anymore just ask, i'll gladly do it.
Hello Friend!! I also have the same problem with this phone. but I have not been able to enter the menu. as you could enter the menu of the z828? Thank you

Yeah I'll make a short guide I can try to post screenshots later but for now i'll try my best to guide you to the point where I am.
1. Go through the setup until you get to the google verifying part.
2. Open up your keyboard and hold down the comma to access the gear which will allow you to get into the google keyboard settings.
3. Once you're at the google keyboard settings go to Text Correction.
4. Then go to Personal Dictionary and select English (US) or whatever you have there.
5. Then click on the search button and just type random letters and hit search is what i did to get to this next step.
6.. You should be able to type in the letter "g" and you should see something called google voice typing
7. click that and go to Text-to-speech.
8. Then click the blue gear next to google text to speech
9. click install voice data
10. you should see 3 dots on the top right hand corner open that and click open source licenses
11. once you're at this part just simply hold a line down as if you were going to copy it.
12. you should see about 4 options on what you want to do with that line like copy or share it search it on the web.
13. what you want to do is click search, its the fourth option.
14. delete whatever is on the search and type in settings the option to access the settings should pop up on the bottom as a suggestion.
15. click that and now you're at the settings.
From here on i assume you know how to access the about phone and turn on developer settings but this is the problem you can turn it on but you cant access the developer menu you can just click it and nothing will happen. same for trying to reset the phone from the back up and reset menu.
if anybody knows what the case may be please let me know i'm constantly trying to find the solution to this whenever i have the free time but so far no solution has came up. i am able to download apks by instead of typing in settings on the google search i type in file manager and simply transfer over the apk through my pc onto the phone. that i can do without usb debugging becasue my pc picks the phone up as a portable device.
I fixed the zte avid plus z828 frp problem!
Dont mean to double post but after a week of trial and error I solved the problem. I bypassed the FRP and Hard resetted the phone. Phone's working 100% now. I can probably post a guide somewhere I guess if highly requested.
Feel free to close the thread as the problem is solved

please do!!!!

Hello yerhope!
from your last report on zte z828 frp bypass, i understood that you finally fix the , not able to access the Developer option nor access the factory reset. I am very keen to know how you did it.
I am a victim of this same circumstance.
guide please?
cant click reset my self
Hey, I would like to highly request the tutorial....
Furthermore, I'd like to say I've poured over these sort of sites, rephrased my questions, etcetc all trying to get the same things accomplished, getting past the google password, and yet you with your quick clearly stated actually step by step explanation were the one to get me the farthest in fixing this problem. :highfive:
Are we even sure he did indeed get in? He hasn't been back to post instructions on how to get further. I am having the same issue, and have been trying every way possible. If I get in, I will make sure I post how.

He said he resolved problem but put no feedback so others can benefit, I really doubt he resolved the problem of bypassing or unlocking or rooting his phone, he probably slammed it on the floor and resolved the problem that way. We don't need people like that here. I will try it when I get a zte z828 from someone that has the same problem, I will post feedback if I am successful or not, so by July 15, 2016, I should now if it is possible.

He did get in. I did get in myself but when i tap factory reset nothing happen.
(Security patched)
Maybe he did resolve it like i did.
Root and remove it with gcpro
Thats what i did.
On some ZTE phones (has worked on 1 but not another for me), you can use the emergency dialer to dial:
*983*987#
This will lead you directly into factory reset options (if it works).
Solution worked on Acer Iconia B1-850 Tablet

Okay, I spent more time than i care to admit on getting through this frp. I have z3x and a few other utilities and i use them when i can, but i don't honestly lay hands on ZTE very often. Anyway, you do NOT need GC or any other box--
so following the last poster's steps (credit to yerhope):
9. click install voice data
10. you should see 3 dots on the top right hand corner open that and click open source licenses
11. once you're at this part just simply hold a line down as if you were going to copy it.

this is where he leaves off... and where i pick up.
14. Download "quickshortcut maker" apk to your computer (or copy from apk extractor on a phone or any other method..
15. Select z828 in my computer and copy quickshortcut maker to downloads
16. On the phone, after clicking the search button, clear the browser box and type in "file manager" - it will show up just below. select it
17. Go to downloads in the file manager and select quickshortcut maker
18. install the app, blah blah blah
19. Once in the app, search "google account" you will have several pop up
20. Select the one that says "email and password" when you do, it will ask for a password to an account you aren't sure of.
21. click menu on top right - Browser sign in is the option - click it
22. Sign in to your email and account
23. Once you are signed in, press and hold power for a soft reset (restart)
24. Proceed as usual to wifi page and BOOM!
25. Profit. not much though, cuz its still a ZTE.

Does this mean you have confirmed this on ZTE?
Yerhopes solution worked for my zte lever
Follow yerhopes solution after step 15 while in settings go to backup and reset make sure back up data is off then factory reset erase Everything phone will reboot old owners info gone no need to download anything worked for 2 Zte levers i bought from ebay.
Bought a EE Jay Tablet (also a ZTE tablet) that had FRP enabled, easiest way I could do it was
1. connect to wifi, get to the previous account required screen.
2. open the keyboard and hold the @ symbol and open the keyboard settings.
3. top right corner press the 3 dots and choose help and type in apps in the search box.
4. access the app settings screen via the link from the help section then goto all and launch settings app
5. enable unknown sources in security and return to app settings screen and launch chrome this time or any browser.
6. goto http://rootjunkysdl.com/files/?dir=Apps and download this file com.sika524.android.quickshortcut.apk
7. you may get a download notification that the file has finished if not go back again to the app settings screen and all again and launch downloads app
8. you will now see the file download open it and install and then open the app
9. in the quick shortcut app search for google account and choose email and password and select try
10. now the google accounts manager has launched, in the top right corner press the 3 dots and choose browser sign-in
11. sign in with a google account and once done it will close and go back to the quick shortcut maker.
12. you still won't have access yet but all I done was reboot the device and continued the setup, this time there was no errors or required sign in and had full access.
Hope this helps someone, this was basically a copy of this video which may be helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKdVvBSIb0M

I used this method, personally, for zte Avid I believe. Yerhope's solution works for some firmwares prior to firmware i was on. i'm sorry, i do not recall that at this moment as it was some time ago. if Yerhope's solution is not effective for you, then progresss to my steps that pick up right where previous solution left off. so once again, YES, this worked on my device, did not test for others. my understanding is kingo can acquire root access in a special way as well that will allow you to adb clear frp. looking for commands? i do not have them sorry.
