I bought my Mozart from Dubai and I think it is an unbranded/unlocked unit as neither the box nor the unit itself has any operator logo and I tried a couple of different SIM cards from different operators and they worked.
My question is- can I flash any cooked ROM to this device? Or is there a "rooting" process involved with WP7 like there is for Android.
Separately, Is it possible to use the charging LED for notification of new Email?
Thanks

Hi all...
I recently picked up a cheap UK Orange SPV M600 (G4 Model) from eBay, and I've been able to follow all the instructions on here to try a few different ROMs already
The problem I have is that everything works perfectly, except for the phone!
It was (obviously) originally on Orange, but I used LokiWiz to get the SIM unlock code, and then entered that successfully with an O2 SIM in the phone... but now it won't work with any SIM apart from a Greek Vodafone one which I had lying around.
I've tried various Orange and O2 SIMS, and none of them work apart from the Greek Vodafone one
All the SIMs I've tried are recognised by the SIM Manager tool, and I can view and edit the sim contacts etc... but all I get for the phone signal is "searching...", and it never locks on to O2 or Orange... only Vodafone.
Any ideas or suggestions please?
[edit]Just realised that I didn't say i HAVE already tried all of the different radio roms available on here, and none make any difference
Another question?
OK - no replies to my first post, so I guess nobody has any suggestions, but I've done a little more reading myself and I now wonder if the M600 has been previously reported as stolen or lost and is now network blocked by it's IMEI??
As far as I can tell, O2 and Orange will refuse to connect an IMEI blocked phone to the network at all, while Vodafone will allow it to connect, but won't allow you to make or receive calls... which does seem to be what's happening with my old Greek vodafone SIM installed.
Can anyone confirm if my understanding of IMEI blocking is correct, and can anyone tell me how I can find out if a specific IMEI is on the UK blocked list please?
As I said, I bought this through eBay recently, so maybe I could still get my money back if it's been stolen and then sold on through eBay, but I guess I'd need to know that's definitely what's happened before I could try that, so ANY help would be much appreciated.
Bad netiquette to reply to my own OP I know, but I thought that would be better than just editing my original... sorry if anyone gets annoyed at that.
Hi folks, can anyone point me in the right direction for a stock uk o2 rom?
I have been asked to look at my brother in law's S740 but am beginning to think something is corrupt. I have a thread in the general section if anyone wants a look.
If one is not available, is there a generic english ROM around?
Many thanks.
EDIT: I did find on, linked to from this board but unavailable. I found the same file elsewhere, but it told me it was the wrong one when I tried to flash it.
Hey,
Odd it won't install if you really have an Orange. I tried it on my 'Asia' S740 and it gave me the same error but now that HardSPL is available thanks to jocky2001 I was able to install the Orange S740 rom! I thought update had failed because it stuck at a generic 'Operator' boot screen FOREVER but eventually it did finish booting & initial setup. Bad news is that although the rom seems to work I can't get a signal. Perhaps the radio has been highly customized for Orange, not sure. The odd thing is everywhere I've looked says the Orange S740 is Quad band & even shows 850/1900 on spec pages but those are not even options in band selector.. Anyhow, if you want to give the Orange ROM a shot, try jocky2001's hardspl (worked for me) and maybe you'll at least get it installed.
Bill
Thanks Bill.
To be honest, I don't know what operator it was on before I was asked to look at it, as it was found discarded in the box with all the bits - in a bin!!!
Maybe thats why.
Are the orange ones branded as such? This has no branding apart from the HTC emblem.
Wow lucky you! Hey I think I lost my S740 near that bin.. You might install jocky2001's hardspl then at least try the Orange UK & Asia ROM's. Both roms refused to install on my S740 (HTC told me it originated in Singapore but even Asia ROM refused to intall) but after hardspl I can install either rom.
As far as branding, I've not seen an Orange S740 & the Orange site shows no logos or such but I will tell you the Orange logos display on bootup after installing the Orange ROM vs just HTC logos with the Asia ROM. They do seem to have different apps installed by default but didn't dig too deep to determine which. Pretty sure the Asia ROM auto-configured data settings for me but the Orange one required connection wizard cab although it didn't help much without a signal.
Btw mine says ROSE100 FCC ID:NM8RSV P/N: 99HFB012-00 behind battery if that helps
So does yours even boot or stuck at bootloader or what does it do to make you think the flashed rom is corrupt? Did you try a hard reset to clear settings? Often that works if someone did/installed something that mucked it up.
Bill
Ps. Here is the link to the ROM's I used. The Asia rom has English (is default actually) & seems to be true Quad band enabled vs the Orange which seems to be just dual band since it doesn't show 850 band & although 1900 is listed it won't connect to it for me even though I know AT&T has 850 & 1900 in my area: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599520
EDIT: OK seems it does support 1900 but only if you manually select 1900 from band list. I tested with both TMobile & ATT SIM's and get a signal. The ATT signal is weaker than normal though because normally the 850 band is a lot stronger in my area than 1900. Field test confirms it's running on PCS/1900 band not 850. So far I found no way to get 850 to work but odds are there is a way since the radio supports it. (Works with Asia ROM on same phone)
It wasnt the ROM file that I thought was corrupt, it was more a case of trying to refresh / reload the various rom sections back onto the phone as there is nothing in the way of phone signal.
There is an image of the problem in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648169 - if you haven't already seen it.
I'll give it another go, but when I tried to flash an asia rom both before and after jocky's SPL it just throws up the "invalid vendor ID" error.
Yeah I assumed you meant the ROM on the phone was bad not the file.
No I hadn't looked at your other thread, I had just posted on this one because it was about the ROM. I get that symbol when I put in a bad/disabled SIM. I think it just means there's no service but emergency calls can still be made if there is a signal. The symbol is different if there is no SIM. Does it give you a 'locked' error indicating it's SIM locked to a carrier? Maybe the SIM slot is bad.. Or maybe the phone was reported stolen so the carrier is blocking it.. Have tried to run fieldtest.exe with a SIM in to see if it is indeed connected to a tower? Not sure what band it'd show for you but for me it is either 850 or PCS even if bad/disabled SIM is installed indicating it does have a signal for at least 911/emergency calls. Anyway, I'd hope you at least did a hard reset clear storage at least already & next do hardspl & install either original orange or Asia rom. I can confirm both posted on xda work on my S740 (aside from lack of 850 band on Orange rom) after installing the hardunlock where they did not work at all (same ID error) before the unlock..
Ok, here's the results of my testing, without having to install Jockey's SPL.
Both ROM's you refer to flashed ok. Obviously I didn't try to hard with the Orange ROM as I dont have an Orange sim to try.
I flashed the Asia ROM with success but still have the problem of no service.
HOWEVER, after having a play with the band and network selection settings, it now asks me to select a network, but the only one listed is T-Mobile.
Again, I only have an o2 sim to try as this is the preferred operator my bro wants.
This now leads me to believe that T-Mobile is the only one listed because it is locked to that carrier.
My assumption may be totally incorrect as my knowledge of phones is pretty much zero, but if this is the case, would you or anyone else know of a way to unlock it pretty much for free, lol, especially now the HardSPL is available.
Sorry, I meant to answer you other questions at the same time.
It could be the slot is bad, and I'm pretty sure it's not been blocked by the carrier as it was found by a cleaner working in an office.
In the bin were the box, phone, CD's, headphones and USB cable.
Even the little square pages of literature were there.
Its almost like it has stopped working and the owner has just taken his / sim out and binned it. !!
There hasnt been any locked error either.
I'll try that fieldtest next.
EDIT: I put the phone down for 10 minutes while typing this and getting fieldtest, only to pick the phone up and now have Orange on the "choose network" screen. I'm going to leave it overnight and see if it can get o2, lol.
Cool you got the roms to install but very strange it would let you without hardspl.. Btw, Orange ROM does not mean you have to use Orange SIM. Note that the Orange ROM has a newer radio which is worth a try too. For testing I'd leave the band stuff on auto unless you're sure you know what you're doing because it's easy to set it to wrong band & assume you get no signal. lol And I'm sure you want O2 but worth trying any valid SIM you can find just to see. But yeah the network select trick is helpful too just to see what is available but it can show different results depending on what SIM is in it, status of that SIM etc. If your phone was locked to a carrier it should tell you so when you 1st boot up with a SIM from a different carrier in it. And after searching I see nowhere that TMobile has ever had branded S740 so doubt seeing just TMobile in list is an indicator of being locked to Tmo.
Sounds like a SIM issue since it is doing the same as when I put a deactivated SIM in. I'd say either the SIM socket/contacts are bad, SIM isn't inserted properly, incompatible SIM (maybe they are super old?) or possibly the phone had damage to either antenna or water damage that ruined something. The more SIM's you try the better to narrow it down, especially if you were able to get your hands on an active Orange SIM.
Of course it's possible the phone's IMEI has been blacklisted as stolen & that is causing your phone to not be able to register on a network with SIM installed. From everything I've read when a phone is blacklisted it'll either say an error about not being able to register with network or simply show no signal as if a deactivated SIM was installed. I'd say if that is the case they'll come knocking on your door since they'll trace it back to your account. hehe US carriers don't seems to partake in the blacklist system so feel free to ship it to me & I'll test it here for you.
Well, just to close this thread.
I tried various ROM's available from this site and none worked.
I did have limited success as posted above but overall, nothing. The phone has now gone back to the person who asked me to look into it and to my knowledge he is going to sell it to one of these phone reclaim companies.
I did check and one place, I think throught the post office, is offering £80 ish so not bad I suppose.
Anyway, thank you to all who have made suggestions and wotnot. Personally I'm still happy with an old Nokia 6300 and my Wizard (Mini-S)
Thanks folks.
Hello
Although a noob I have been reading posts for 2 months and cannot find anything similar.
The problem is that my phone only works fully on HG3 ( UK ). I have tried all other major networks in the uk with the following results :-
Vodaphone/O2 No signal - nothing works
Orange / Virgin - detects signal but will not call out ( sounds like dub, dub, dub then cuts off ).
T-mobile Detects signal, won't call out - but will browse the internet.
I have got an unlock code but the phone doesn't ask for one. I have contacted HG3 and HTC who tell my my phone is not locked. I have the stock original rom - 1.48.402 after upgrading to 3.14.402, doing a task 29 and reverting via 3.03 HSPL.
I have tried downloading roms for Orange,O2,Vodaphone and T-Mobile after resetting to 2.08 SPL but these do not take ( they won't start via USB ) the phone just restarts.
Other info - at one point I had 576mg RAM ( not sure when as I didn't realise it may be important at the time ).
When I first tried to update the rom from HTC I got an error message ( something like "Not compatable with carrier" but not sure exactly as again I didn't realise it might be important.
)
I have tried the Winmo/File explorer/simlock - but nothing happens.
I bought the phone 2nd hand off e-bay - the IMEI number on the box matches the phone.
If anyone has any idea of anything else I could try to unlock the phone I would be most grateful
Sounds like maybe an IMEI blocked phone as your showing signal & call "dub dub dub" cut off is a classic symptom of that.
Due to coming from eBay any option is likely as if you have a bad device eBay is the best way to sell them at good price.
Really do need trying to complete a rom flash, Do you have drivers installed on PC ? if unsure install WMDC or activesync if on XP.
I would put 2.08Hspl on it & try flashing energy custom rom for testing purpose along with a good radio such as one in my sig below.
image of your bootloader may be useful too.
Good luck !
Many thanks Mister B
I don't actually know how to post an image of my bootloader on here but it says the following :-
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-3.03.HSPL XE
0X 05
CotullaHSPL 0X 30
Perhaps I should point out that it had the original SPL 1.42 on when I got it. I loaded HSPL4 as a precaution before I flashed any ROMs ( only HTC stock ROMs )
Your suggestion that it has an IMEI lock makes a lot of sense ( even though I'm not sure what that is! ) and as you are the first person to suggest that it does gives me smething else to try. I shall be packing in the morning for a few days away - but I will certainly try your suggested ROM & Radio when I return.
I am running windows XP with Activesync 4.5 on my PC which has given no problems so far.

I have tried to load the custom ROM suggested but the site asked for a credit card number - I'm too cautious for that! I have, however, tried loading the Vodaphone Rom - still no signal - and the Orange ROM with the suggested Radio. I got a good signal but it still won't call out. I'll leave the Radio on for a while to see how it goes. Unfortunately I can't get a signal on HG3 at the moment ( which is the main reason I'd like to unlock the phone ) so I can't make sure it still works on HG3.
I doubt flashing any custom ROM's will work anyway - I've done a task 29 on more than one occasion which would surely clear any ROMlock.
I am beginning to think it's impossible to cure this so if either you or anyone else has any ideas I would be glad to hear them.
3 possibilities:
Hardware issue
ROM issue (flash HSPL 2.08 & energy ROM)
*scroll down page & use slow download option, no details/CC are needed*
IMEI is black listed (contact your network & ask)
task 29 would have no role in removing ROM lock (CID)
CID is bypassed if using a HSPL
If this handset has been purchased used online & been like this when you got it I would be inclined to check IMEI blacklisting first, stolen handsets & handsets with account credit issues get blacklisted & then scum sell them online.
symptoms of showing signal but dialing dead or short tones & dead are classic signs ...

Thanks again Mister B. I have now loaded the Energy ROM and Radio suggested. I am most impressed by the ROM - I think I'll keep it on the phone but it hasn't made any difference as far as the original problem is concerned - 3 still works but no other sim will call out. I notice I now have 576mg RAM ( which is one of the things I wanted to try in case the previous owner accidently locked the phone with a bad flash ). That would suggest it is not a ROM issue and as I got the box ( with matching IMEI number ) and all accessories with the phone ( which was in virtually mint condition ) I think I can rule out stolen. As it works fine on the 3 network and neither 3 or HTC have it blacklisted I think I can rule that out too. That only leaves a hardware issue but even that doesn't make sense as I believe 3 use the T-Mobile/Orange band ( previously GSM 1800 ) rather than the Vodaphone/O2 band ( previously 900 ). I partly understand why I can't get a signal on Vodaphone/O2 - but I don't understand why I can't call out on Orange/T-Mobile when I get a good signal.
Any other suggestions would be most welcome as I'm beginning to believe that even the dark one himself could not solve this one!
I would check all phone band settings & try a few different options such as change to 2G only & band selection on auto ect.
Handset does not need to be stolen, bad bill payment can get handsets blocked from networks.
Symptoms & your comments on 3 dub dub dubs & cut off is a classic sign of it.
What branded network is this one & was it unlocked when purchased .
first thing I would do is call T-Mobile & see what they got to say about web browsing working but no call & get confirmation IMEI not blocked.
Could be unlocking did not go correctly & has left phone in this state.
Perhaps an attempt at full unlock of sim/cid/security-lock by cable & software could resolve it !

I have checked the IMEI online - it has not been reported lost or stolen and has not been blocked.
The phone is unbranded and was unlocked when HTC made/sold it originally ( verified by HTC ) but has only worked on 3 since I bought it in April this year.
I have done the suggested tests with the following results :-
GSM - Does not work at all on Vodaphone or O2 that use frequency 900
Picks up a signal on both Orange and T-mobile and both allow internet usage. Orange and T-mobile use the same network here in England -frequency 1800.
3 does not work on GSM.
WCDMA - Only 3 will pick up a signal - although my Orange and T-mobile sims are 3g enabled they do not pick up any signal on 3g.
Please note - all sims work perfectly well on my old HTC touch cruise.
It would be interesting to try the cable & software total unlock - how would I go about that ?
Odd one indeed & as an unlocked HTC handset to start with even more odd.
Only 2 problems I have seen with same symptoms was a sim locked handset unlocked then only worked on one network & even original network & sim would not work & a blocked IMEI.
Checking online is not reliable verification for IMEI & it would be good idea contact T-Mobile & Orange & see what light they can throw on it.
Can you send or receive sms on t-mo or orange ! can you get account details via short code*# numbers ?
You could also try looking into sim card slot contacts, maybe they not contacting correctly on all sims as contact faces differ slightly & a pin is off alignment or not pressing firmly against sim. Could try bit of tape on back of sim & adjusting sim position a little just to tick it off the check list !
Out of ideas after that, as originally unlocked handset can't see software unlocking going to be of benefit ....

The T-Mobile guy was fascinated, while the girl ifrom Orange was totally bemused! The SMS/ short code numbers don't work at all. The SIM holder is so tight it has been difficult to test - but no luck so far. I would be interested to know what happened with the unlock then locked phone you mention as I think this is probably the same problem - accidently locking the phone to the SIM in use. Was this ever resolved?
The handset I referred to ended up scrapped for parts, it was originally lock to to orange & was unlocked via paid software unlock from developer on xda.
Once unlocked used with O2 network but when wanted to use another sim had no luck getting it registered, even original Orange sim would not work.
Has been known for unlock to cause issue as process rewrites a memory block & it can go wrong but is very very rare.
Your symptoms are slightly different.
Really sounds like network authorization with device has an issue, really needs a tech from a network to review any issues they might see from there end.
Only time I have personally seen same as yours is with blocked IMEI & an incident I had with a Touch Pro which was my device accidentally being blocked due to my network making a blunder & took many calls as call staff generally know less than a clued up user & finally a personal trip to there head office & a network tech to review stystem data there end to resolve.
Your device was factory unlock to start with ?
UK model ! you tried getting generic ROM from HTC website ? (look at wiki)
Has it ever work on another network since you owned it ?
Has it been opened ? (void sticker on screw not present or other signs)
I would try get it flash with HTC generic ROM or get HSPL 2.08 on it & install an NRG WM6.5.3 ROM & radio 2.15.50.14 or 2.12.50.02_2 & see how it goes !
Hello,
since I have flashed a custom ROM on my German T-Mobile HTC One w/o simlock (T-Mob_101), I can't use any SIM-Cards anymore nor can they be read. I also tried with the tape trick but neither that does help. I tried to install other ROMs (such as Google Edition and Android Revolution) but still no luck. I'm out of ideas and gonna throw that phone out of the window any time soon.
Please help me this is extremely frustrating, it's a quite new phone I don't want to send it to HTC for repairs.
My HTC didn't read Sim at all, I changed sim at operator office for brand new one - since then no problems
Hi there,
I'm from Germany and went to a scuba diving trip to Egypt two weeks ago. Last year I bought an Egyptian Vodafone SIM to use the cheaper conditions for SMS and Internet with my rooted HTC Desire HD.
This year, I thought, I could redo this with my stock HOX+ which I got by extending my contract (also Vodafone) . But as I attached the SIM to my phone it wasn't recognizing it. As soon as I switched back to the German card everything went back fine (except the prices).
So I thought the HOX+ came with something like a SIM lock, which is uncommon for a non-prepaid phone in Germany, and decided to root it and install a custom ROM (CM 10.1)
But also with this ROM the phone won't work with the Egyptian SIM. The SIM did work in two different phones and their SIMs didn't work in my phone either.
So is it possible, that there is something like a regional lock on the HOX+ which is not related to the used ROM? And how could I get an foreign SIM to work in my HOX+?
