most stable performance/battery life rom? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have super clean 2.9.1 + voodoo kernel with JAMT minimalist theme, but I feel like I'm losing more battery than usual.
I had 2 full days of moderate usage right out of the box (wifi always on and screen half the brightness), but now it drops down to 20~30% for about 7 hours of moderate usage with 0 brightness. Also I'm getting random shut-downs at least once a day.
I've now calibrated my battery (at least I think so...don't know for sure), but the battery life stayed the same as before; short.
I'm impressed that I get 1500~1700 on Quadrant, but I don't know if that performance is ever needed for my usage...
I suspect that everyone gets different results with all the roms, but anyway which rom is the most stable with excellent battery life, and with no crash in general?

Random shut-down is probably caused by not flashin ROM properly.

Did you calibrated your battery using BStats.zip @ 100% battery level?

No clashing just means that if you did install ROM properly or not most of the time.
I've just flashed SC 2.9.2 NV/EC10 and it is working flawless right now.
I haven't tested the GPS, I don't use it.

I've already gone back to stock to 2.9.1 about 7 times, and yes I flashed Bstats.zip since the "wipe battery stat" option did not work.
Perhaps repetitive rom installation causes the crash? I don't know for sure...

It shouldn't crash even after times of flashin.
I've flashed my phone like 15 times now but works just fine.
Just go to CWM mode and Wipe Cache/Dalvik/Data and reinstall the ROM.

is it okay to restore my settings with red recovery (nandroid is it?), after reinstallation? or would that restore the crash problems too? I really don't want to set up settings/widgets/apps etc all over again...
and thanks for helping out again!

Nandroid Backup Backups to EXACT state u have backed it up. So, it would cause crashing again. I recommend you to backup data using TiBu(Titanium Backup). Then install ROM. I know it sucks to back up apps again, but better than your phone keep crashin, right?

[Q] battery issue || vibrant - Honeybee rom

hey,
I bought a month ago a new vibrant from the states and I installed Bionix rom and then Honeybee.
I have 2 problems with the battery:
the first one is when I'm rebooting the cellphone the percents of the battery status get down by 10-30%, for example: I had 45% and then after the reboot I got 22%, sometimes it's even fell to 0%.
the second one is that the battery is working only within 5-5 and half hours max with no Wi-Fi and normal-less usage, the display is taking at least 80% of my battery (as it write on the setting option), I do have juice defender and I tried to find out what application taking so much battery but no success (I used some programs like watchdog lite and etc.).
I tried to change the battery the other ones (even battery that works great on the I-9000).
**I've tried to calibrate the battery more than once.
anybody has some suggestions?
have you done a battery calibration
?
try a different kernel

Is it possible it's an hardware problem?
try bali 1.8 uv kernel
why dont you try going back to stock and see if the problem is is still there if it isnt try a differnt rom

if you save them to the sim it wont matter
or back up contacts/calls with titanium backup, cant restore it on any other version though, just 2.2.1 if thats what honeybee is
back up anything else you want with titanium, preferable not system data unless you're just going to restore it to that version

Best way in my opinion is just to make sure you save everyone as a Google contact. That way they are backed up and restored automatically.

try calibrating again, charge full, unplug, if it drops, plugin again, keeps repeating this till it stays at 100
then use a calibration app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024867
or boot into recovery and wipe battery stats
or do it through root explorer and reboot
it'll take a few charge cycles to settle in, charge full, run all the way down till its completely dead, charge full, run all way down again
alright, so I calibrated my cellphone and it is still with the battery problem... is it possible that there is an hardware problem?

Battery drains within a few hours...

Snce I have updated my GS2 to ICS my battery drains insanely fast. I don't even do anything with it. I go to the battery consumption table and it seems like the screen is overusing the battery. The rest are fairly normal percentage.
Like I mentioned in the beginning I only have this problem when i'm using ICS. Right now I have the stock ROM that I downloaded from SamMobile. When I'm using custom ROMs it gets worse. What could this be?
And yes I did try to search for similar problems, because it seems like a lot of people have problem with the battery but no one had the exact same problem as me.
I can just add that since I last charged my phone my screen has been on the lowest brightness and the phone had just been lying on my desk. I haven't even touched it. still 7% has been drained and the screen seems to do the job.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Same to me....Plzzz guys...Help US.
Battery drain is the hotest topic on ICS these days. I believe the high RAM consumption of ICS is causing battery drain. Almost every ICS rom is having this issue. You are not alone. Relax and wait, you will see improvements.
-
In the mean while, you can install "betterbatterystats" to find out what is draining your battery. Good luck.

So when you clicked on display, it showed that screen on time is 1 hour, and your battery is currently at 77%? That isn't terrible, actually. That means you're on track for a little over 4 hours of screen on time before your battery will reach 0%. Average screen on time for full battery discharge is usually around 4-5 hours.
If you are using the phone, and the screen is on, the battery WILL drain.

No believe me this is not good battery time at all. I have screen on lowest brightness and barely use it. Even when it's just lying there with screen off it drains a lot. I mean I have had this phone since last summer so I have had it or a while and he battery was pretty good before. But since I updated to ICS the battery drains a lot faster than before.

You just said the screen said it was on for an hour, and the battery was at 77% in your post above. So was that not accurate?
If it is draining more since you upgraded to ICS, and you want it to get better, then you have three choices:
1 - Install BetterBatteryStats and other monitoring apps to figure out what is keeping wakelocks and other processes running on your phone that is draining battery...
2 - Do a factory reset/full wipe and see if it was an errant app you installed that could be draining the battery, then slowly start adding your apps back one by one... or
3 - Flash back to a Gingerbread firmware.

Yeah I guess you're right, but at the same time the battery is very very bad compared to before so I'm confused. Maybe I was just enjoying a really good battery time back on Gingerbread?
1. First of all that BetterBatteryStats is too complicated for me. I tried to use it before I didn't get it. What am I supposed to do when I find something that is draining my battery. Should I freeze it? Uninstall it?
2. I have tried this a lot of times, no change.
3. If I use Gingerbread for some reason the APN settings with at&t doesn't work properly. I lose connection very often. So I'll rather have worse battery time for now. Is there a solution to the internet connection?
Thanks man I appreciate you taking your time!

What modem/baseband are you using with Gingerbread, that could make a difference with mobile data dropping.
Also, what APN settings for AT&T are you using? There are a few different APNs. The two major ones are "wap.cingular", and "phone". The one you should actually use will depend on what kind of data plan you are signed up on.

Do you have the APNs for "phone?" It would be awesome to have that. Then I could just go back to GB until they fix it.
BTW I checked my battery stats again, 24% left. It says screen 56% and Time on: 1h 54min... So it's is pretty bad, right? . It dropped really fast.
Android OS is second with 15%.

APN for "phone" doesn't work unless you have a specific data plan - namely any 4G plan. So if I recall from some of your past posts, (I remember you now) you're on the non-smartphone data plan, right? Then the "phone" APN won't work for you if you are.

If all else failed, try shutting down your phone, take the battery out and clean the battery contact points. Dirty contact points might be the culprit.

Latest kernels

Does anyone know where I can go to find the latest kernels for cm7? I've searched through http://www.motosunfire.com/cm7miui/ and it says that they are outdated and need to he updated.
Most of the roms here are working.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323710
You're going to be looking at the top and strange quark branch.
But then again, I think they are the same ones as those posted on motosunfire.
Either way, they are what I have been using for a while, and they're stable.
Downloading strange quark at the moment. Does cache and dalvik cache have to be wiped in cwm prior to flashing?

Doesnt need to be, but do it to be safe. Also, just so you know, the kernel that comes with cm7 is the best one available. It is the only one that remains to be updated. It isnt overclocked, but overclocking will not be apparent through regular use and the tradeoff is more stability and better battery life.

Jokers 1.3 and 1.4 are the only ones available.
So I've been running cm7 with its original kernel for two days now. Battery life is great but I am unsure if my battery icon is displaying the correct percentage. My phone would be discharging and after it hits 80 percent, a few minutes later the batter icon will say 60 or 50 percent remaining. I've tried calibrating the battery yesterday, let it fully charge, boot into cwm recovery, wipe battery stats, boot back into the phone, let it discharge completely, and charge fully, but the icon will never show if I have 70 - 79 percent remaining.
Here's a screen shot of battery usage. The meter would just have a sudden drop in an instant .

Normally this will subside after going through a few charge cycles. If it continues to do this after a a few days, then assume something is wrong.
Just curious, if i flashed the kernel from CyanMobile gingerbread, will it work with cm7?
The ramdisk is different in cyanmobile. But I made a cm7 version of the 1.0 and 1.3uv kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1456298
Only the zimage/kernel is cm7 compatible, not the whole cyanmobile boot.img

Another Marshmallow ROM

Another ROM for you guys to try. I made this from CM13. I added the commit to fix data issues. It is compliant with xposed and gravitybox.

Mobile data is still not working on cm13 at all without toggling airplane mode. It needs more work. SHM has it working on Candy 6. I cherry picked that commit to make it work and made this ROM. Battery life is the same on this ROM as Candy. When more work is done on data I will merge it here as well. Note I got 18 hours screen on time on this ROM as well as Candy. I will look into cell data more and see what I can find. I still have governors to ads to this ROM. I can add the ability to not enable mobile data when WiFi is on.

If that's the car it could be an app installed causing it. Or even a bad cell signal. If you are in an area with low or no signal it will cause the radio to constantly be trying to get a better signal. Tower hop. Hard to say. 8 hours is horrible.

Man, I'm going back to stock JB ROM. If you haven't noticed until now, I'm obsessed with battery life and getting less than 8 hours of screen time is killing me. All these new ROMs seem unfriendly to battery.
Here're screenshots of my battery consumption. I didn't even get 8 hours of on screen time. If the battery stats are to be believed, I've lost 3382mah and I'm down to 5% of battery. This means a full charge corresponds to 3560mah. If the battery capacity is 3900mah, then 340mah is unaccounted for. But 3600mah is still a lot of battery. Can someone check his battery stats so that I can compare it with mine and know what's wrong. I'm using Candy ROM.
@Moody66, I'm going to put your suggestion to test. I'm going to do a clean install of the ROM in this thread. After that, I won't install any app and then I'll let it sleep for 7 hours while mobile data is on.

Battery drain Ressurection remix. should update kernel?

Hi, i think my cell have a battery drain. I running RR rom 5.8.3. Redmi note 4x. Very high battery usage in the system. Should I change kernel? What is the best? Tks
help?
did you clean flashed rom? try wiping and flashing rom again
If you wanna try a kernel, velvet kernel is battery friendly, if you tweak the governor properly

23% doesn't seem "very high" to me. Why are you worried?

Unless my understanding of Portuguese is wrong, you seem to have 66% left, after 4 hours of use. That is 8.5% per hour. If you were using your phone actively during those 4 hours, it seems that you will get about 11 hours SOT, which sounds pretty good to me. If your phone was not being used at all during these 4 hours, then that would be pretty bad.

You should get more than 4 hours SOT - and the screenshot that you gave in the OP shows that you would get at least double that. I am not sure how your battery can go from 66% (as show in the OP) to 1% in less than an hour. Right now, you leave us guessing about too many things. It is not clear how exactly you are using your phone, how many apps you have installed, what are they, what exactly are they doing, how you have tested your battery to determine your SOT, etc.
To find out what is the problem, think you first have to start with a clean ROM. As someone has said, do a clean flash first (wipe data, dalvik/ART, and cache, and flash the ROM). You should first backup your apps before doing that. Install "PCMark" from the play store, and run the PCMark battery test with the clean ROM. Then restore your apps. Then run the PCMark battery test again. Then we can see whether there is a problem.
By the way, here is a good way to test your battery drain.

I think 4hrs was not SOT and not the heavy usage either, because it shows top battery drainer was the system itself. I think solution to his problem is to try another kernel OR fresh clean install of ROM. If you do not want to handle apps and backup then may be just try kernel. I faced the same issue on RR because i did dirty flash (wipe: cache, dalvik, system only). I am using below mentioned kernel and it solved my problem. Plus i use kernel adiutor app to change cpu usage, but i have found that it has troubles sometimes. (i can't change values of max/min cpu speed & Governor settings, "sometimes")
kernel: faust v2.zip
app: kernel adiutor
rom: dirty flashed RR 5.8.3 (18/06) for mido
