i dont know if any one is fammiliar with the company called incase...
they have great cases for iphone.. hard rubber silicon. I hope they can come out with something like that for athena....
or most phones.
My family own a plastic manufacturing company in middle east. i might have to check with them to see about manufacturing some accessories....

Or do what the rest of us Athena Owners have done, get yourself a
"Tuff as Nuts" case.. Much better build quality.

HOW MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, there has got to be a slick docking station similar the one for OQO 2. Lan port, 3 usb, optical drive, vga out, PCMIA slot, and throw in a big ass battery to charge the Shift from when the onboard goes dry. Long trips you can bring the docking/charing station. A shoulder bag for this would be great as well, 7" screen isn;t going to fit in the pocket so nicely, but a minimal stylish shoulder bag could work pretty well.
Of course, accessories won't matter if nonbody buys it cause the GPS and voice are disabled Really, without GPS, voice, and the ability for both OS's to access all the storage resources you are going to have to carry a phone anyway so why would you buy this and not a cheap mini-laptop for half as much?
For in-car use
a car charger
a car cradle
case
how bout a hard case with a flat bottom and holes for vents and ports on sides so its usuable on lap, and solar panel not so much to get it 12volts id have to cover the whole screen and even then id tske hours to chage like 6 or 7 so id basically be usuless in less u sit outside in bright sun all day and dont want to see anything in less it flipped up that might work then i block sun out too to cut black glare,
a bigger internal battery
i would love..
a battery around 4000 ma even with a bigger cover.
...maybe an official upgrade of wm side, by paying the full licence but with a good implementation of qualcom grafic drivers
finaly.. if ppctechs could provide a 256 ram update , plus a micro sd slot . they can do it
I believe HTC Shift will have probably a short life cycle... As this is their first "rather mature" product of this kind. They are surveying the market, know the design flaws and specification mitakes. The next one should be now specified at 80% already.
I'm confident we will see lot of improvements on the device itself (but this is not the topic of this thread). Let's focus on accessories as this is also a weak area when comes to HTC Shift offer. From HTC, I just see the following:
- Extended Battery (for heavy user and because... this is a great margin generator. ).
- Docking Station (more USB ports, VGA output, Ethernet).
Third party manufacturers can take care of the rest (Car Craddle/Charger, Cases, ...) but they will do it only if the next product has good sales or benefits from strong HTC support. Due to short HTC SHift life cycle, I dont think HTC is pushing hard for having partners making accessories.
I just sent the images below to my Father-in-law to tends to make stuff out of wood. He makes beautiful hutches, cabinets, hope chests, cribs, and other wood furniture pieces that he gives to family members and does it as a hobby. He makes great stuff.
My wife is always complaining that I clutter up the end table near my lazyboy with stuff... I have a TV tray like thing in front of the chair where I have a notebook most of the time so that I can be out with the family while working on my second job and having a storage area that looks like a piece of furniture would be handy.
The hutch idea would give me a place to put that stuff, and provide a central power station at the same time. I am always needing to temporarily plug something into the wall as well, and this would give me a way of doing that without diving behind the couch to get to the socket. Sometimes I need to program a router or plug in a backup drive etc... and I have a power dock now there for my phone, charge my tablet etc...
While I could work from my home office, it tends to get hot this time of year and I prefer to spend more time out with the family.
I think these things should be in stores...
What do you think??

Looks nice, and u seem to have most of it figured out, down to the power outlet. very nice.
Just found out that he is building it! Should have it sometime in late May. Will take pictures when I get it.
That's pretty awesome. They should build that into entertainment systems as well. A central plug at the bottom of it to plug into the wall then two power strips that have like 10-15 plugs. We are such power hogs.

One of the devices that was tested was a Note, and it performed flawlessly. I backed the project, and will give my review once I get it. Really looking forward to it - works on both desk/countertops as well as in your car.
Be careful when adjusting it, could really bend or break your ports. Otherwise it looks like a cool product. Could see it being great in the car.

For sure. It looks like they made a nice, fat base for the mini USB connector to rest on. Hopefully it will support a good deal of weight. Supposedly it will even hold it in landscape, which I am cautiously optimistic about.
That does look pretty cool. As the others have said, the microusb port is such a shallow port, it may not provide a lot of support if any when adjusting, or if set at an angle of any sorts. Be curious to hear your review when you get it!
Im not impressed. Micro USB ports arent designed to hold weight.

The port doesn't hold the weight. The base does. Same concept as a dock.

I watched the videos, I dont see where your getting the idea that the base holds the weight. They only show a glimpse of the iphone connector in one of the videos and it doesn't look any different from my ipad2 cable.
I would love to see a Note held horizontally via USB. Its one thing to position an iphone in every position since the port is 100x more secure and locks to an extent.
This has no base. Your USB port will support the entire wieght of the phone. Won't be long before USB port is loose and ceases to function.
By 'base', I mean 'connector plug'. The USB port is on a large plug which distributes the weight across a larger area than if your phone sat on just the cable end. Still, small port, certainly not made to be jostled around on. I bought mine for my desk, so should be fine. Again, more details when I get the thing.

From what I'm seeing that would only be true if the phone were completely balanced at a 90 degree angle otherwise much of the weight is actually distributed as shear stress against the inside of the micro USB plug which is not good.it needs some kind of backplate to cradle with.

I've asked Jon Fawcett, creator of Une Bobine, to drop by this thread and comment on concerns. I think they are all valid.
Hey all. Meatlocker sent me an email to address your concerns. I'll give some info here, but please feel free to ask more questions of me.
We made 2 substantial changes to the standard details around the micro connector that are intended to resolve the issues with all of the weight on the connector. First, our connector housing for the micro is about the same width as a standard iphone cable. The extra width spreads the weight of the phone to a greater area, which places less weight on the connector itself. Also, if the phone is tilted slightly, the phone body will hit the connector housing and stop the phone from putting additional sideways strain on the connector.
The second thing we did was to make replaceable caps on the housing end. These caps adjust the space between the connector body and the tip of the connector. This essentially adjusts how far out the connector comes. These allow us to reduce or remove the gap between our housing and the body of the phone so that the 2 items listed above are as good as possible. We have 3 caps designed to adjust this spacing to keep the phone tight in position. We also have one cap with a right angle bracket to assist with some side-port phones. And we have another cap that leaves a small portion of the traditional micro end sticking out that will let it fit into cases. Each device comes with all 5 caps.
Of course, these won't solve every phone and every usage. But we have tested with 30 different androids, windows, bb's, and feature phones and these have made the difference for most of them. Also, we don't recommend adjusting the position of the phone while it is connected to the cable except for small amounts to get it to the exact right position.

Do you guys have any pictures?
Looks cool...but I don't trust it.
I know the Note doesn't weight a ton, but it seems a little top heavy/big to be comfortably used with this thing.
Hmmm...maybe they could come out with something that'll attach to the USB port and allow the phone to be rested on or something to prevent all the weight from being on the phones port?

Lots of good pics there (Note included), along with a video of both the micro usb and iPhone connector in action with a phone.
This is a cool idea, and I like that the maker takes time to come and talk. I understand what he means that the weight is on the plug and the base and it seems like it would work fine under ideal use, but my concern is that I would smack it, hit it, knock it over, something that would cause far more then normal amount of weight on the plug. Im glad to see some innovation though, I may give it a whirl, we'll see.
Managed to get my hands on 2 of these and they are great - if you have a smaller phone. I have no problems with HTC wildfire s or Sony Xperia Ray. When it comes to the rather large Samsung gs3 it is a different story. I have to lean the phone forward to get it to charge and this defeats the purpose of the bobine. Also in portrait mode it doesn't charge just rest against the connector casing.
Great idea for small phones! Just hope they can get a solution for larger devices as the concept is great!

Just, within the hour, received my Ultra. I have not yet even turned it on! I have it charging. I use at present the SGNote 3 and the difference in quality is immediate. I owned the original Xperia Z and the quality of that was simply superb, why I bought the Note 3 I have no idea however.
So pleased to again just hold a device that feels so well made and worth its value in terms of cost also being a flagship of that group. When I hold the Note 3 now...........The Note 3 is a superb phablet but simply lacks that feel of being a flag ship device. I am so pleased to hold the Ultra and experience that feeling of class. Of purchasing something worthy of my cash and its title.
I will post again latter when I have charged the Ultra and turned it on. I am praying I have made the right choice in changing over and the Sony will perform well without the software bugs I have with my Note 3?
Kind regards to one and all.

I can fully understand your sentiments.
My major gripe with Samsung is the materials used in the construction. The Note 3 is one of the most expensive phones on the market. In terms of Android I think it may well be THE most expensive? If other brands like HTC, Apple and Sony can produce top spec phones AND be constructed from quality materials, why cant Samsung. My Note 3 has plastic leather back with plastic pretend stitching along with plastic chrome sides etc? I am amazed Samsung didn't use cling film for the screen! Its a missed opportunity as the Note 3 when bug free works very well indeed.
Presentation has an awful lot to do with how we feel about what we own. For top price models I think it only reasonable to expect top quality materials and finish. Still, Samsung's loss and Sony's gain.
It is also very reassuring to own a device that is NOT region locked and to that end I am able to use it all over the globe unlike the Note 3 that I can only use within Europe! Don't set me off on that one.
Just waiting for them to charge then I can play..............I just have to start to act my age! Scrub that what an awful concept...yuk..

Ex Note 2 user here too. I really was never bother by the plastic to be honest although holding the naked Ultra just feels amazing! Note 4 would have to be more than amazing for me to go back. Besides, knowing samsung they will add .18" again to its size to make it just short of 5.9 so it will take a few more generations to get to the Ultra size lol

I bought the Note 1 the day of release only to sell it some months later because I could not live with its pocket unfriendly size. I recall writing in my Amazon review that a phone that size will never sell in any numbers.....Talk about dropping a brick! The Note series has sold in the millions.
The quality of the Note 1 was far far better than my Note 3. I didn't purchase the Note 2 but understand the general build of the Note 2 was also superior to the Note 3? Enough of the past and the plastics.
I am very pleased with the quality of the screen and the speed of this appears to me just a smooth and fast as my note 3. I think the 3GB of RAM on the Note is needed to run the UI. The Sony is more vanilla in UI and I prefer that.
The colour scheme on the Sony is also beautiful. I prefer the Sony screen to the Samsung though this is choice, both screens are simply superb.
No sooner I turned the Sony on that it updated to 4.3 OS and I then spent some time downloading my apps etc.
This IS one beast of a phablet. I have zero idea how I am going to live with the size but I am going to make ever effort! The SBH52 will help so I don't have to keep taking the Ultra out of pockets. I had to laugh this afternoon as I cant find a single pair of trousers that this beastie will fit into.
I like the SBH52 even though it came without a charger and no instructions at all. Soon found what I wanted on the Sony site.
Early days to write much more. One tiny thing I have noticed is that Sony have made the icons smaller on the screen? I was surprised at that. I would have preferred larger icons.
I hope it proves reliable. I have it housed in a very nice real leather flip case holder. Holder has one small snag in that no space is cut out for the charging mini USB port so I have to remove the Ultra from the case in order to charge it or down load things to my PC. I will see if I can cut out a small space myself tomorrow.
So..........So far all good. Wonderful quality of materials, very different from the Samsung experience. Both good phablets in their own way.
Will be nice to be able to use my phone again in the rain etc.

I recommend leaving your case as is.
=Cut out a space for the mag-dock. It charges slightly faster and it wont wear the O-rings out from opening and closing them a couple times perday.. that way it will continue to protect agains dust and water.

Thank you for the kind and informative reply. There are oddly enough already cut outs for the dock. I have not purchased a dock though as I have read here that the phone does not fit a dock while still in its case only without a case? This would mean every time I need to charge the Ultra I would need to remove it from its cover.
Second point I need to connect my Ultra to my PC to update my documents etc. Is there another way, wifi for eg, of doing this?
I notice that inside the covers of my past Xperia Z that inside the tiny flaps was a white membrane. This was there to show if water had passed the flap and void the warranty? There is no such white membrane inside the flaps on the Ultra. is this correct?
Thanks for your help and support, I appreciate it.

You can get a cable that connects through the mag -dock. Don't need the actual dock.
You can use wifi direct to connect, but that will depend on your computer's hardware. Loads of apps and software to do this through IP address if you need. The only reason I use my Usb is to update firmware using an Ftp and flash tool.

I highly recommend a dock. You will be so sick of opening the USB port every time you're going to charge it, and you'll also wear the rubber seals out (i guess). It's also nice to dock it on the nightstand at night and watch tv shows, like it's a tiny Sony TV.
You can transfer files wirelessly by using an app. AirDroid is very good, but that's more of a full fledged manager that you can transfer big files, delete files, send SMS' and even navigate through the filesystem with. I installed Pushbullet last week and it's an amazing little app. It's so easy to send links, photos, files etc. to and from a computer or even another device. I highly recommend it.

I was considering the Apple iPhone 5S. I know I know, going over to the 'dark side' The points that prevented me where price, its double the cost of the Ultra, not able to use any sort of expandable memory, not water resistant plus possibly the OS and UI? I wanted to try the newer Apple to see if I liked it any more than I did my first Apple. I have to write that the Apple is a quality product with quality back up. The packaging alone always pleases me when I purchase something Apple. I am just not an Apple OS fan.
Sony are getting there again. I think, I don't know, that some large companies like Sony sat on their laurels for too long and just depended on customer loyalty. Not possible to do that for many years. Pleased to see that Sony are moving in the right direction BUT still have a tad way to go.
A classic example of this is the SBH52. I purchased this with the Ultra. No instructions nor wall charger in the box? Even the packaging is rather cheap and cheerful. Apple just don't do that. Even the boxes Apple products come in is quality cardboard !! This is not a joke, all aspects of marketing need to be spot on to improve or even hold onto ones market place.
Remember HTC? Hardly see a single sale in this country today yet only 5 years ago it was nearly all HTC.
Apple have made a science out of how they sell and their market research is second to non plus their customer satisfaction and relations are superb. Of course there will always be the exception to any rule.
I like what Sony are doing. As I wrote above I think in some areas they have a way to go, they appear to be a getting there though. IF Sony can maintain this trend I think Sony will again start to show profits and the devices they produce will again reach the heights they did in the past.
Now Pioneer have ceased making TV's Sony and Panasonic make some top quality sets. Samsung and LG outsell them all BUT for how long?
Samsung is starting to slip with things like region lock on their phones. I for one will not purchase another Samsung until they drop this absurd behaviour.
I had to factory reset my Ultra last night after spending 12 hours setting it up just as I wanted it. The screen froze and no matter what I did it would not unfreeze. After turning the device on and off several times I was able to get into the settings and reset to factory settings. For around 30 minutes I thought it was going to have to be returned! The programme that caused the problem was 'talk back'.
One point that has concerned me is after a complete factory reset I noticed today that the files I had downloaded from my PC into the memory of the Ultra where STILL THERE! This is bad news as had I returned the Ultra those files would have been open to access. I was under the illusion that a factory reset would reset the phone back to a virgin state. This is not at all the case?
Very early days though and some teething problems can some times occur.

Hi. What an experience that was! No matter how hard I tried to explain the difference between water proof and water resistant some fellow posters just could not accept that their poor Xperia Z's where unsuitable for deep sea diving. The way Sony market the Xperia Z was, in my opinion, very poor. In the manual Sony made it clear with large diagrams that the Z could not be used in sea water nor swimming pool water YET their own advert had the Z being used in a bloomin swimming pool!
I gave up on that subject and just laughed at some of the things people did with their poor phones. Did you see the clips of them being cooked in chocolate and soup etc....Phone had more artificial intelligence than some owners had brains. I am still totally baffled as to why one would take any phone into a shower? How does one wash? To what aim would one need a phone while in the shower? Never mind.

However is need ZU big screen !!!

(use with bluetooth headset)
Well folks after 4 days ownership and use I am so far a very happy bunny. Providing I understand I have purchased a phablet and not a tablet nor a mobile phone but the best of both worlds I am content. The SBH52 makes a very good companion device. We have long very hot summers here so where I am going to keep the table while walking about in shorts and T-shirt, I have no idea though? I do like a challenge.:good:

My phone was recently stolen, and a friend gave me her Note 20 ultra and said I could just have it if I could get it to work. First off, the back was cracked in several spots but the screen is pristine.
I plug it in and nothing, no sound that it connected, nothing visual on screen. I leave it plugged in for 1/2 hr still nothing. I connect to my laptop and nothing. So I decided to take off the back and see if anything is obviously out of place due to damage done to back panel. After taking screws out and starting to disassemble I notice the power button is not connected. So I look up how to reconnect by watching some teardowns and I notice ummm the inside of my phone doesn't look the same as the ones in the teardown videos. So I search different Samsung white phones with stylus and I don't see anything similar. Since I can't turn on I couldn't verify it actually is a Note 20 ultra. It's not built like any of the videos, so now I'm like well sh*t I just ordered a replacement back panel and stylus from Amazon....
Anyhoo, my question is two fold.
1. Is this a Note 20 ultra? (I'm in Canada but couldn't find a specific video for that)
2. How do I reconnect the power button ?
Please help if you can I cannot continue with my old A02 the lag is driving me batty!
I've added a pic of a note 20 ultra from google as reference and the pic of mine is exactly how it looked when I removed the backing.
Wow
So much emptiness
Well, I've come to the conclusion this is clearly a fake Samsung note..
My first clue should've been the absence of the Samsung logo on the battery. The back panel from Amazon came in and thankfully I have a new galaxy S22 (the real Mccoy) but now I'm determined to fix this faker anyhow. 1. Because i spent the money on the back panel. And 2. I'm stubborn like that.
Does anyone have experience repairing flex cables? I saw a few vids involving soldering but I'm not that confident in my soldering skills..
I have those Bondic kits with the ultra violet light that hardens the glue type substance. It's that an option? The cable ripped right where it goes into place.
Damn it's god awful badly made. Sorry.
The chipsets are likely from an older generation as well. I would write it off.
If you learn to solder on those pads you will likely lift the solder pads. You should have a fine tip temperature controlled iron, fine gauge rosin core 63/37 solder and lots of practice. Soldering is easy once you learn some principles, techniques and get a feel for it. Many never fully master it though.
