has anyone tried a bigger data.img than 512MB?
using this tool to resize the data.img to say 1GB, with z's script?
I have just created a 1 GB img and testing it on wolf's latest v05 with 53 patch!
I will update if anything goes wrong! so far looks safe!~
I have just created an xrecovery with 1GB. it's basically z's script with data.img resized to 1GB.
All the credits to Z and the other dev's who involved in data2sd development.
Steps: (You should install this with a fresh ROM installation, don't flash in xRecovery on a previously installed ROM)
free x10 z's rom:
1, Boot into xRecovery, do a factory reset, clear cache and in advanced wipe dalvik and battery stats.
2, Install FreeX10-beta4.zip through xRecovery
3, Reboot and wait until radio and data works(it may reboot autmatically)! don't boot into xRec until you saw the radio working and it's stable.
4, Do nothing now just boot into xRecovery and install the gapps_FreeX10.zip via xRecovery don't reboot install the FreeX10-data2sd.zip without rebooting.
5, Reboot and wait for sometime till it settles down. Then install all the hotfixes, patches, new market etc.
wolf's rom:
1, Boot into xRecovery, do a factory reset, clear cache and in advanced wipe dalvik and battery stats.
2, Install CM 6.1.3 [v05].zip via xRecovery
3, Without rebooting install the CM Update v053.zip
4, Now install the FreeX10-data2sd.zip without rebooting.
5, Reboot now and wait for somtime till it settles down. Then you can install all the patches, themes and new market etc.
If you reboot in between, you'll end up in a reboot loop. So don't reboot before installing data2sd while installing wolf's rom! In z's freex10 reboot only once after the rom.
Don't restore data from xRecovery. Do a fresh install for optimal performance.
Even though I am testing with a Class 2 SD, minimum of class 4 or 6 is recommended
also I'm following this method to bulletproof my launcher!(Experimental try on your own, and please don't modify this file.)
I've attached the local.prop
use
"adb push local.prop /data"
or you can try installing using the zip file for xRecovery!
(I would suggest using the adb method)
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage to your phone or data loss. Please do a complete backup of your sdcard and apps before trying it out.
note to mod's: please move this to dev or app threads if it's not appropriate in Q&A
Good luck on your quest.
Can you try if it work on Series 2 SD?
FYI! I am right now testing on my old class2 card only!
any good news?
will post the screens of benchmarks soon!

score might've take a hit due to class2
my class 6 8GB used to give me in the region of 2600 in quadrant.
this is my titanium, here you can see the internal storage space!
This seems great. NOW IS THE BIG QUESTION: HOW IT HANDLES WOLFBREAK ROM???
Does it lags or freezes as Z data2sd?
it's running smooth with no crashes almost for around 18 hours! the no crash and smoothness may be due to wolf's effort as well.
I am running the bulletproof home tweak and imported the fugu's tweak files in the rom zip of wolf.
when you are ready I can give it a try!!!
can you make it just Z zip file so I can installed it via xrecovery?
updated the zip files on my first post!
I am having some problems here. I got no service after installind data2sd.
plus now you cannot unmount sd card as the phone just reboot itself.
you installed data2sd on a fresh rom or a previously installed rom?
i followed your procedure letter by letter. i have been installing, flashing ROMS since I enter to XDA.
Still, now I am trying to give it a second chance. but the fact that the rom get's installed in the SD, mounting SD in PC will make the phone reboot.
go into xRec and partition tools, mount usb storage!
delete the data.img in the xRecovery folder!
no the ROM is not installed in SD, it's only the data partition...
ok. Just trying it once again. hope better luck this time
Still I do believe that you have done a great job.
p.s got service now. trying with the rest how it reacts etc etc etc. i also downloaded and installed your prop file.
oh okay! that's good! which ROM you are testing with?
if still it's not working, download the data2sd again from the first post! I have added a new file.
I am using Wolfbreak last rom. with respective update...
I am also using the wolf's rom! it's working fine for me.
hope you are understanding that this is all testing stuff!
data2sd will put more strain on your sd card than app2sd or others. just test this on your old/soon to be dead SD! if you like the performance and stability then try this on your regular SD!
Erm. sorry...i just wan ask sth b4 trying it. I tried data2sd(without changing anything) using class2...and it lag like hell.
So..by changing the storage, or size like u did, is there any laggness? or isit smooth n fast?
I am planing to buy a 32gb class 10 card very soon.
what's the joy of trying something new if you can not from the old experiences and mistakes

Q&A:
Q: How to use "boot custom ROM/kernel" option?
A: this is designed for ROM developers. This option executes a custom script (/system/kernel/boot.sh), which may be used for multiple puproses like:
- boot custom kernel
- boot custom ROM from SD Card
- dual-boot
- etc
Q: can you give an example?
A: Sure. Here's the simple boot.sh script to boot the custom kernel:
Code:
#!/sbin/sh
# zdzihu: boot custom kernel
insmod /system/kernel/splboot.ko
sync
cat /system/kernel/miniloader > /proc/splboot/image
cat /system/kernel/boot.img > /proc/splboot/boot_img
sleep 3
echo > /proc/splboot/boot
Q: What's edify scripting?
A: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936175
Q: Will it work with X8/X10mini/X100/T1000?
A: Yes and no. Yes, because it's compiled in compatibility mode (armv6).
But not this particular release. The init files must be changed by X8/X10mini/X100/T1000 devs first. Please check in the relevant threads.
you are a machine sir!!
Zdzihu and Jerpelea will go down in history as Gods of the X10

I've tried searching this issue with no luck, surprisingly! I thought it would be more common.
Anyway, when I boot up my Nexus One, it takes <Sandlot>FOR-EVV-ERRR</Sandlot> to mount my SD card. I've got most of my apps on that card, so it's super annoying!
Like I've said, I've got a bunch of apps (40?) loaded on to this card, a few documents, 4 CDs... random stuff. I haven't formatted the card in a looong time... nor have I wiped the phone in a loooong time. I am a crackflasher - I flash a new ROM every day, but I VERY RARELY have issues, so that's why I haven't wiped in so long. This is really the only issue I have, and, if somebody knows the command, I would be happy to just mount the SD manually through the terminal when I need it to.
The phone is a Nexus One. I'm running a CM7.1(or whatever it is) based ROM and kernel. The SD card is the 16gig one that came with the phone.
Any help is appreciated!
Billy
Cliffnotes: What's the terminal command to mount the SD card to the phone? So the ROM can access it?
Ok, so I guess I diagnosed this issue... after rebooting my phone and waiting for my apps to become available I was able to, through the settings menu, view the space used/available on the SD card. Sooo... it is mounted? And the delay is just Android loading the apps from the SD card? How can I speed that up?
Thanks,
Billy

Thank you for the reply,

You increase the read/write speed by increasing the SD card cache size. You can use an SD speed boost app to do so easily, there are a couple on the market. There's also a script that you can run.
I had a similar issue. I've been running the same rom for over six months, and initially just flashed updates over the existing version and only wiped caches. I'd strongly recommend that you go ahead and perform a full wipe. It may seem like a pain, but I am 95%, certain that it will fix your issue. Just backup your apps & data with Titanium Backup and after you've completely wiped & flashed your new rom only restore what you need. Weeding out unused apps should speed up your phone as well. You can always restore them if you need them.

Hi, I've been wondering why my P500 on the stock rom 2.3.3 has been taking about 4 minutes to boot! Well I just tried booting without the SD card and it booted up in about 30 seconds! Does anyone know why? most of my apps are on the SD, I also have some music. But the SD is 16gb and a class 10 from SanDisk.
Any incite would be a great help.
Hi everyone, seasons greeting's and all that
So, I have successfully rooted my phone (after lots of reading etc) with the SpeedMod kernel which IMHO makes my phone fly, quite impressed indeed.
I'm unfortunately a novice and I am having trouble installing a ROM, although it works perfectly well when I have to flash back to stock with odin.
I completed the required wipes as suggested is always performed when installing new ROMs. I placed the zip (tried this with CheckROM and Hyperdroid on numerous occasions) on the internal memory (external 2gb memory still in situ) and via CWM proceeded to "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from internal sdcard", the flash process took all of 1.5mins which I thought was far too quick.
When prompted, I reboot the phone with the option on CWM and basically get stuck at the image in the pic below, even after waiting 30-60mins
Any help greatly appreciated as I am really keen on trying some great ROMs from some great devs.
Many Thanks, Rizur.

Are you selecting 'flash zip' or 'install zip from SD card' then selecting the file?
1.5 minutes also sounds about right.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Sorry, I am indeed selecting "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from internal sdcard".
Get back into recovery and flash the file again, or restore a previous backup. Otherwise get into download mode and flash a rom that was specifically made to be flashed through odin, there's a few of them.
Cheers! I'm currently on stock with SpeedMod kernel, I may try and flash again or find those odin based ROMs you speak of.
flash a rom with odin like lighning to see if its working
I am currently on UltraToxic ROM, mainly because I'm struggling to flash via CWM.
All is well so far though so I'm happy
A clue ??
Copy custom rom zip xxxx .zip or whatever its called to internal sd card .
Boot to recovery cwm .
select Install zip from sd card .
choose zip from sd card or depending upon CWM version choose zip from internal sd card .
Navigate to named zip file xxxx.zip select then answer yes in the next window .
Should now install and boot .
If fails it would be worth checking your version of cwm and maybe even install a new cwm and root kernal or start over and wipe the phone .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
followed by cwm and root
then your custom rom of choice .
jje
What I can say is these.
Turn off phone.
Enter cwm again.
Wipe everything.
Try reflash and it should work now.
Good luck!

After hours of experimenting... finally... AD2SDX on XPERIA NEO
thanks nakchea for informing me about init.d support
thanks for adiktz for informing me about ext4 as requirement
and thanks to adridu59 for answering many of my questions
thanks for the developer of this mod
original thread by amarullz

and to ShyamSasi
as my basis that this will also work on or XPERIA NEO
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333379
heres the port of this MOD for NEO.
REQUIREMENTS:
-Bootloader Unlocked
-Inteks Kernel
-Stock .42 rom of xperia NEO
-Root
-Busybox
-CWM
-sd card with 2 partition (for normal use of sd and the other one is EXT4)
-make sure u put this mod on your sd card after making 2 partition
-remove your sim card (ill xplain later why [Note1])
PART 1
ok heres what i did
I have my .42 rom, i installed root, busybox & cwm here.
I reboot my phone to CWM recovery
clear/format data, cache, sd-ext
Then i make a Backup of rom (its a fresh rom now cuz u format data, cache, sd-ext)
Then i format system after backup (so everything is clear now - system, data, cache, sd-ext)
PART 2
Then restore/flash your rom again using CWM.
After restore dont exit CWM without flashing this mod. (You should flash your clean rom and this mod on the cmw recovery at the same time)
PART 3
then boot.
first boot will bootloop 4-7 times then it will boot normaly. [Note1]
restart phone. it will bootloop again 4-7 times.
then look at your appmanager.
you'll see its working...
you can now insert your sim
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Note1] ok heres why we need to remove sim card
At the moment after normal booting
"WITH" sim card - boots into this (look at first picture below) without no progress, you will stuck in here.
To prevent this we must remove sim
"WITHOUT" sim this will happen again but only for 3-5 minutes then it will bring you to your homescreen
after 2 sucessive boot, you can now insert your sim and everyting is normal now with this mod
look at the second picture for the result...

Ok I have a problem here, I tried to format everything again via cmw and im trying do it again for verification that this is realy working.
But why it bootloops again continuosly, abt half an hr waiting but it bootloops only. thats the question I wil try to find out. Am I just lucky to do that Yesterday night? Or theres a bug? Or I just did somting wrong now I tried it again? This project is not yet perfect but everyone can try. Post here your xperience using this mod. If sumone can make it work again, please share things on how u did it. Thanks.
To protocol11, just found some info that for this to work, u need a kernel dat suport init.d and ext4.
Lin2SD is more easier
Link2sd links only apk and dalvik. But with dis mod the data partition can be moved at sd card. Look at the 2nd pic of my post, dont u want to have that storage? U can resize dat dpending on how much partition u made on ext4.
I have only got this to work a few times also / more times ending up with strange results
Sent from my MT15i using xda premium
this script was not stable that's why i settled with link2sd
ok thanks to your comments, so its not only me xperiencing this effects. ok i'll try to find out some solution for dis to work on just a first try.
Does it bootloop everytime we restart phone or just first few times?
apps in internal memory is much stable and battery saved than in card. so no need to move all data to card, especially data in /data/data . move apk and dalvik is enough
Flash neo v ftf excluding kernel.. That will increase internal memory
What's the problem with link2sd?
