USB not connecting - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well on my X10 my x10 is not connecting with my pc..
i've changed cables swapped pc you name it..
well i've once editted the build.prop and didnt save the old one.
was that the problem? because the build.prop is different?.
and also my phone is unrooted which is nearly impossible to root it agen without usb.
help plox?
would love usb to work when 2.3 gingerbread does come out.

this happened to me and it was actually the port on the phone which was broke, it was strange as i could still charge my phone... very common problem with these handsets... sent it off for repair and received a new phone back all is well.

ahhh thats a bummer..
since i dont have insurance on it.. guessing needa drain like £100 for repair? ==

HELP Bricked x10 and computer can't read it

Hi guys,
I recently bricked my X10a and have been having problems trying to connect it to my pc. I can get it into flash mode and connect it to my pc but when its plugged into my computer, FlashTool can't detect it and my computer can't either. Is there anyway I can check? if I have the proper drives? Also if I don't have it is there a way to download it? Thx in advanced.
Btw I'm using my freinds HTC G2 USB cable to connect it to my pc. Could this be effecting it? Do I need the official sony ericsson USB EP700? Thx for this as well.
Running windows vista home basic 32-bit
do you have seus the sony ericsson program on your computer?
I believe that will help you get the proper drivers when you install it.
its on the sony ericsson website under downloads.

Use SEUS i have the same and it helped me
I tried using seus but it won't read my phone at all. Unless I have a broken USB port on my phone It can charge but not connect to my computer.
Are you using a USB hub?
It's straight into my computer. Idk whats going on :\
Do you have a firewall or something similar installed? It might interfere with the connection if you have the firewall settings set to very high. Might need to specifically set permissions for it to have seus and the drivers run...
After doing some research I'm almost certain it is the cable. This cable is the official one from HTC and on further reading it says only compatible with HTC phones. But thank's for the help guys. I'm gonna but a new SE USB cable and hope it turns out good. I'll be back if anything goes amiss.
Come on... Tired to read "I bricked my x10" when you have 1% to really brick it, is this so hard to use correct words ??????????
Bricking is non-sense in x10, even with custom kernels... PSP CAN be bricked, a "real" brick, not x10.
It looks many people is new to this, there's no problem but it's very boring to read sensefull words for everything... These people definitely didn't live the period bricking was meaning something.

Bricking in the x10 world is the bootloop. When our bootloader gets cracked the meaning of it will change.

I agree, but bootloop is no way a brick.
Misunderstanding dogs and cats is pretty weird
Hopefully with loader hack we will give indeed a much more realistic meaning to what bricking is
I also learned that the hard way i guess.

No, you just need a plain USB cable. I have both the X10 and the HTC HD2 and I use the same USB cables between the two. No issues.
Hey! its hard to brick an X10.. maybe you have a lower battery problem. try to charge it fully with an a universal charger or another X10. and use another desktop,USB port. the cable must be an a micro USB only. its doesen matter if the cable comes from an HTC, Nokia or other device, it shoud work Remember the drivers.. hope it helps! You should return your X10 to a Sony Repair Center.

Will Sony be able to tell I rooted phone if it wont Turn on and wont recognize usb?

Well as the title says i rooted the phone a long time ago. I noticed my phone didn't charge yesterday so I started messing with it and realized it would need to be sent back. so I wanted to start unrooting, but I couldn't connect into flash or usb at all. I did manage to start a flash once , but then it lost connection half way through and the phone doesn't turn on at all now. I can't wiggle usb or anything at all to get it to recognize so I imagine the board or something need to b replaced. question is will sony be able to tell my phone is rooted in its condition and if the replace board i'm in the clear right? thanks guys!

i think if it doesnot turn on they dont bother repairing it.it is happen with a printer i giveback to bestbuy and they replace it right away without even plunging to power.
oh yeah when I say doesn't turn on I mean it vibrates as usual when u try to power on, but it goes no where. no sony logo or anything.
Oh no. Just tell them the truth, hopefully they don't care... wish ur phone good luck...

Well technically rooting the handset does void the warranty. However, if there's no way for it to turn on, I don't see how they'll be able to tell!
Just use sony ericsson update service
I had the same and it worked for me
EDIT: you can download it on the sony ericsson website

I have tried the SE update service and the phone won't go into flash mode because it seems that the usb port is faulty and loses connection. I'm just sending it in and hoping it gets by them. If not I will just pay for the repair I guess.

This happened to me too. USB port was faulty, couldn't charge, couldn't flash. Vibrate on power key and red light flash but no Sony logo or anything. I borrowed a friends fully charged battery and got phone turned on. Entered recovery and wiped everything, system, data and cache. Then sent it off for repair as it was then a blank phone. They just sent me a new one

Thanks....This eases my mind a little. My wife actually has an x10 as well and I tried her battery as well and it won't go anywhere. It just doesn't work so I am fairly confident that they will jsut be repairing or sending me a new one. It goes out tomorrow so my fingers are crossed. Thanks again for the insight everyone.
Update: I called Sony today for an update on my repair and I was told there was no record of my service request. The support agent I spoke to assured me he would call me back by the end of the day with an update. Well I was waiting and UPS arrives suprising me with my phone The packaging was verrrry bad. It was in a flimsy box wrap in some thin styrofoam wrap thing. The box was dented pretty badly, but the phone seemed to be in working order. The best part is they just sent me a straight replacement. So I put sim in and power her up and it's asking for an unlock code...AHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Spoke to Sony, AT&T and Rogers to try and get them to provide one, but they wouldn't give me one. So now I am waiting for a code to be sent to me from an online company. Hopefully will be up and running within the next 24 hours. I'm just happy it was replaced no questions asked. It actually was sent out to me the same day it was received so that's some quick turn around time.
They can always check for root eeven if it doesnt turn on how? Via the sdcard they take it out and plug it into a sdcard reader then onnpc they check for stuff unusual like superuser app or anything revelant lol

Before you send it in they tell you to remove sim, sd card, battery and back cover.

And besides, files related to root are not stored on the SD.
From release notes on emma you can see that from 2.11.4 version they added detection of rooted phones..
So answer is yes, they can detect if phone is rooted, ofc if they are able to read data from phone..
I have tried 3 different unlock companies online and none have been able to generate a unlock code for my new phone. This is unreal. I dodged the rooted phone issue easily since they couldn't power on phone, but they sent me back a locked Rogers phone and no luck getting it unlocked yet. This sucks :-(

Cant return warranty phone!!! HELP!

So I rooted and flashed my vibrant about 2 years ago. My charging port has malfunctioned and had to order a warranty replacement, but Im afraid I will send it back and they will void the warranty because it is rooted and charge me $400 to my tmobile account. So basically because the charge port no longer works I can not hook it up to usb and odin it back to stop. Any ideas?
Fixing that port isn't that hard......I've heard. Are you getting a replacement or are they fixing yours?
IMO, it shouldn't be an issue as the problem has nothing to do with firmware etc.
I am Jack's smirking revenge.
you're supposed to odin and go to stock firmware before sending it back for warranty purposes...
If the phone is 2 years old I won't worry. I return 7 Samsung galaxy back to AT&T with know problem in one year including the Repair station here in Phoenix. If you fell you have to try using WIFI to down load Rom and load threw bootloader
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
So your saying, since its not a software issue to go ahead and send it back? I have tried everything to odin but without the charge port I can not do anything with it. Also, like I said, they replaced my phone already and I am sending the broke one back. Im just afraid they will receive it and then hit me with a bill.
Cant they fix the port and then return to factory themselves after they repair the problem?
Yeah they will probably replace the whole board as well. You'll be fine.
I am Jack's smirking revenge.
Ok,thanx man. Ill send it back monday. Ill hop back on here in a couple weeks and let you know if they excepted it or not.
I think there's an app called mobile Odin. Might help in your case.
I would say they probably outsource the repair and they are happy for the work no mater how they got it and don't want to waste time figuring it out anyway.
Just say'in

Someone rescue me!!

Alright so my sister has a white Samsung Galaxy S2 (sch-r760) and it does not charge! We connect the battery to her friends phone and it recognizes the battery but on her phone it doesnt! She attempted to charge her phone with her friends battery and it worked so if anyone knows why this battery charges with her friends phone but not with hers? Can it be the phone or a software update?? She just recently got this phone too
Seems like hardware. Even if it isn't, I would still return it because if you have problems already, it's crap.
Not sure though if this is the right section for this version of the S2...
could be IC hardware that broken, like mine..
the only way to repair it is replace the mainboard with the new one..
1) Say hi to your sister for me.
2) If it's brand new, tell her to return it.
3) Clean usb for dust.
4) Change usb flex.
5) Repair center.

If it's new with warranty, take it to the service center.

The USB board (the likely culpret) is TOTALLY separate to the main board and can be picked up for under £10 (unlike the main board which costs 7 or 8 times that)...

The shop would replace a hard bricked device?

I bought my Z2 from a gsm shop and they gave me 1 year store warranty. If I take my device to the shop and tell them I was doing OTA update they would replace it? My device is completely dead, no signs of life, no responses. I tried many solutions to get it working but it's not working, no flashmode no fastboot, no vibrate when I force it to turn off. So can they check my device somehow that I f***ed it up or it was the OTA update?
Did you try the repair feature through the Sony software with you PC? Might be worth a shot if you haven't.
What did you do, or try to do that it is now doing nothing?
Another stupid question... But is the battery dead?

Sony PC Companion can't recognize my phone. when I try to get into flashmode in flashtool it says: "device connected with usb debugging off" so I can't get into flashmode.
I did OTA update, and then it went wrong
I tried to charge the battery for about 4-5 hours
anyone?
So
I soft-bricked a Motorola once, can't remember which, and i was pretty n00b so I just took it back. The guys at the shop looked at it, tried booting it and plugged it in their PC. They asked me what happened and I told them that i had simply switched it off and now it wasn't working.
I don't exactly remember what they did on their PC, i guess they simply tried ADB or Motorolas utility. Anyway if its retail shop, you should be able to get your money back. I got mine, and i bought L3 :shame:

If it is hard bricked, I believe that you can just go to the shop, and tell them that the phone switched off and wont switch on again, no need to tell them about updates or anything...
A general rule of thumb in such cases (in my opinion) is to claim that u didnt do anything that could possibly cause something like this.
They most likely wont be able to tell whether u f***ed up or not
Just pretend you're a complete n00b.
