Picked you Fascinate yesterday. I have flashed a kernel on it. I'm not sure if it was doing this before but when I push the power button to turn the screen off it goes off but immediately turns back on. Hit power button again it goes off and all is well.

What kernel

Thats certainly not normal behavior. Unfortunately I really don't know what would cause it.
I have this problem as well. I think it is just one app that is causing the problem, but I can't pinpoint it. It doesn't always happen. I thought it might just be the browser, but then I wasn't sure.
Regardless, it isn't that big of a deal because the screen fades off after like 5 seconds anyway.
Also on mine. Im running sc 2.92 voodoo with the overclocked kernal. Push lock screen goes black then to the lock screen.
I dont think its the browser because I use dolphin and not very often.

Anyone else getting this? Seems to be only the top half of the screen it does this randomly. Takes a reboot to fix it. I am rooted and no matter the ROM tgis happens 2-3 times a week

Sounds like a problem. I would definitely bring the phone in to be checked out.

Happened to me once with my first one, and twice with my second. Not enough times to really make me care.
i've experienced unresponsive issues
So i've experienced the screen randomly becoming unresponsive. So i know its lot locked because i've been in phone calls when it happened, or i can see animations working, or maybe a download bar progressing and then the screen will do nothing at all. I can shut the screen off and back on but then not be able to unlock it. But then i've had the same happen, but i would then be able to unlock the phone only for nothing beyond that to respond. This does eventually go away/stop, Its odd as it makes me think its the screen at times, then software at times (sometimes i cannot hold the power to restart/power down).
i have a similar problem where my lower part of the screen becomes unresponsive randomly at times once a day and then goes away after reboot . im not rooted
The phone rings, I hear the ringtone and the buttom keys light up bright but the screen does not turn on. I press the power button and the screen does NOT turn on. I miss the phone call.
My phone has been doing this a couple weeks now. First it was on Myn's Warm 2.3, so I switched to Synergy and it's still doing it. Anyone else seen this?
I've been experiencing the same issue. I wonder if my kernel is to blame? I'll try flashing another.
It most definitely is the kernel.
I've got this behavior but quickly resolved it by using the stock kernel.
I've had the same issue. Currently running virus eternity 1.3. Some folks suggested swapping out ziggy'kernel for stock, but I'm lazy. A restart seemed to fix it for me atleast temporarily.

my eris has started to act very crazy. sometimes when on the main screen or any screen that has multiple slideable screens the phone will just automatically start to scroll left. i've also noticed that the trackball has started to not work to the left. could these be related, if so how or what can i do to fix this?
Mine did the same thing. no fix, the phone is just breaking.

**SOLVED** i'm hoping!
it doesn't always happen but I noticed sometimes my screen glitches out after I take a picture and goto view it in gallery. it gets some weird lines through it, and hitting home does nothing. must turn screen off then on for it to return to norm. seems weird... i have force 2d rendering checked in dev options.. going to turn that off now and see if it still does it. but it's a weird little glitch. has anyone else seen this before?
ok I turned off 2d rendering and it still does it. It's as if the screen just fades out into black, and that's that... it's every time you take a pic and then hit the gallery icon to see the last pic.. image sense bug maybe?

i'm so glad that i think i figured this out.
i had my screen animations set to 0.5x instead of the stock 1.0, which nobody else probably did, that's why even HTC couldn't replicate this problem when i told them. here's a video of what happens when this does it. i'm pretty sure it has to do with screen animations...i hope, anyway.

I've never had this happen to me before

it's very weird. it seems as if when you hit the gallery icon, the screen just fades out. now, it's not a screen problem, as it won't happen in any other app, so i don't believe it's hardware. i believe it's just a small little glitch. i've since reset my phone for the first time since friday, so maybe that would fix it, who knows. haven't noticed it yet.
anyone get this yet?? it happens if you quickly tap the gallery icon after taking a pic to review it. the screen fades out and you have to turn screen off then on to work again. touching the screen in this period does things.. like i did the drop down motion when my screen went black, and hit where settings would be. then I shut screen off, turned on, unlocked and bam, i was in settings.

I have tried to replicate this, but cannot.

damn. i really hope I don't have a bad phone. It doesn't happen always, and it's just a minor annoyance. it seems to me like a software bug switching between the camera and the gallery really quick. i'll make a video ASAP to show ya guys

During a call my screen turns off like normal but just recently when it turns off, I can't turn it back on even when pressing the power or home button. There are rare occasions where even when I'm not on the phone, I can't turn the screen on.. It always results in a battery pull then it works fine again. My phone was normal and working perfectly and I haven't done any mods.. Kinda weird, anyone with input on this?
I'm rooted running version 2 Jbomb, 2.3 beastmode kernel, mj4. Could it maybe be these apps that cause this, lux, gravity screen, light flow.. Those are the 3 main apps that are always running.

Sounds like you may have some gremlins. I would do a clean install of your ROM and install those 3 apps 1 at a time checking for the problem to repeat. Joshes ROMs are typically very clean. Could be the Beastmode kernel also.

I'm currently trying the lean kernel.. So far it hasn't happened yet.. Hope it stays this way

Nope. Most likely dirt in your proximity sensor. Try blowing real hard in the ear piece or use one if those air cans. Mine does the same and it sounds like a lot of people have the same issue
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I can guarantee it's. Gravity Screen. I use both Lux and Gravity Screen and I'm on a Nexus 4. Google brought me here. I was hoping I'd find something in the gravity screen thread but search isn't picking anyone talking about it.
fwiw I only use it for the Keep Screen On by motion so any the other features are unchecked.
I also use an app called screebl which is more reliable and has been around much longer but I flip between the two.
Screebl also got completely rewritten recently so I'm thinking it's probably the more reliable of the two since it's been around longer.
Aside from that I'm thinking it might be the Running During Call checkbox since it's the only other checkbox checked.
I'd disabled the other settings by moving the sliders to zero (per the developer) and unchecking everything but the 2 checkboxes for keeping screen on by motion-left its slider at 50.
...so either uncheck that ringer checkbox. If that doesn't work it's a bug with the app.
It's inherent to almost any Samsung phone. My SII did it. My S4 did it. My Note 3 does it.
It has to do with the proximity sensor changing too quickly.

Sometimes it cuts both ways, with the rare occasion of the screen not waking up when a call comes in. If you're running deep sleep app, sometimes that can be the culprit. I still use it, though.
