Running VEGAn 5.1.1 and these .avi's begin to play in what must be the default player. After a few seconds they stop and spawn the following message:
"Caching. This media does not support streaming, player will be started after transferring completely."
I'd love to try RockPlayer or some others to see if that helps but I'm accessing these files through ES File Explorer and long pressing the file doesn't give me an option of media player. Nor can I open RockPlayer first and navigate to the .avi as I can't get RP to see any but locally stored media.
Anyone point me in the right direction? Any tips at ALL about streaming over LAN? Thanks loads.
astro and es explorer support wan/lan.
what codec do you have on your avi. i tend to stick with mp4. as those work best.
try remount your sd card and restarting tab
Use CIFSmanager to mount the shared files, then stream away

Hi guys,
I finally have my 101 and so far very happy with it, but I can't seem to be able to stream MKV or mp4 movies. It plays them from internal/external memory, but not over WiFi. It shows folder empty browsing from the player and from the browser it sees the files but doesn't see them as media files... is that normal?

The player uses the Medialib, which doesn't scan the network.
And which browser do you use?
I use the stock file browser. Also tried Es File Explorer, but that tries to download the mkv, saying this file type can't be streamed

Then you are using UPNP not smb
Yes, because when trying to use smb I put in the user/password, but for some reason it doesn't seem to like it... on Win7
any advice on what I need to do to make it work, please?
...and why to avi files work over upnp?
The UPNP Doesn't work for MKV.

OK solved my smb issue, in a way I would never had thought...
I rebuild my media index because I had put some music on the 101 which didn't show in the coverflow and then went tothe video player checked the smb and I was allowed access without asking for password or anything
When streaming video using the allshare app from a laptop to the sgs2, is there a way to enable viewing of mkv files on the sgs2?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I tried this myself using a custom DLNA client, but it seems that the allshare app doesn't support .mkv files even though the actual phone does play .mkv files (tested by actually throwing an .mkv into the phone's internal memory, plays like a dream...).
I suspect the app won't be able to run it regardless, your best bet is to try to get the file converted into a xvid .avi file, although the file will be larger than it is as an .mkv if you don't want a drop in quality.
I spent hours trying to get this to work, sadly no luck
I have found the same thing, allshare wont stream play most of my network video files (DLNA or SMB). I have to use a network file explorer (file expert, es file explorer, [astro smb doesnt work]) and then a player to stream it (rockplayer, moboplayer, mvideoplayer) Different combinations depending on the file format, size and if it has subtitles.
For me AllShare doesn't seem to work at all
I will try to flash a new rom.. Maybe this will help
i have a question with respect to streaming of subtitles to my tab.
At the moment i am running standard touchwise i am not intending to root it.
Here is my problem, i downloaded several episodes from a series and i am streaming them to my galaxy tab 10.1 on the following ways:
way 1: tversity on pc --> skifta on tab --> using rockplayer to play the movie
way 2: plexmediaserver on pc --> plex on tablet
I have no problems playing movies with incorporated subs (of course) but i have not found a way to play a avi in combination with a .srt file. (of course srt has same name as movie, and it is working in windows).
Is there a way to get this working??? am i doing something wrong?
EDIT: sorry for the bad english... i am from the netherlands
is there nobody who could help me out? or just tell me it is not possible.... i guess i am not the only one having this problem, right?
I know DicePlayer on the market supports .srt subs. You will need to transfer the .srt file(s) to your tablet.

hmm, so that means i stream the .avi to my tablet and subsequently it opens automaticly the .srt file that i will have on my tablet? will this work with for instance skifta?
I use ES File Explorer and have added my laptop as a server over my home network (I'm not sure how you'd go about doing it otherwise).
These are my exact steps:
1. Open ES File Explorer
2. Navigate to .srt file
3. Copy .srt from laptop to tablet sdcard
4. Navigate to .avi
5. Tap .avi file > Complete action using: DICE Player --(movie should start playing)
6. Tap "Select a subtitle" on top right of screen
7. Navigate to your .srt file on tablet
Done.
I've never used Skifta, but (presuming Skifta operates as a file explorer which you use to browse your PC files) as long as the .srt is on your tablet, it should work.
can i add my computer as server without filling in a pasword? i am on windows 7 with only 1 user and dont want to change that.....
As far as I know, you need a password set up. However, I think you can set Windows to auto-login so you don't have to bother with entering it every time... Google should help in that reagard...
thanx everybody. i have es file explorer working.... so that is perfect
just downloaded the trial version of diceplayer and this player is streaming also subtitles... so that is also perfect.
unfortunately i have not found another free player that could do this . So, somebody knows of a player that also stream subtitlels or where i could select the subtitles which i have on my tab?
Just want to close this thread with at this moment i think is the only solution:
- I have installed es file explorer
- Put on a new user account on windows with a name/pass
- (optionally --> set in windows 7 to automatic startup without asking for pass)
- Bought diceplayer in the market to play series
Diceplayer is also streaming the subs from my computer, so you dont have to place the srt files on your tablet.
thanx for all help varelawarfare, much appreciated.
someThing has changed and i'm wondering what it is.
I use ES explorer all the time so i can stream videos from my comp to my phone.
to view .flv files i'll use MX player or vPlayer. both being fantastic apps.
i can watch .flv files from the internal storage on the device, but when i try stream .flv files from my comp it gives me 'sorry, no application available'. this just started happening not too long ago. use to work great, internal or from my comp. also happening on my rooted nook tablet. anyBody know what's up?
nobody having the same issue?
I can't open any MP4s I downloaded, they show up as "can't open file", and when accessed through root explorer, the media player crashes.
Help appreciated.
Maybe use another media player. I'm using MX player for videos and it plays everything.
