You would need Odin to flash the modem(radio/baseband). EB01 is latest.
Some people find better battery life with dl09

People have been reporting problems with the EB01 radio having issues not ringing and missing calls without showing they were missed. DL09 and EA28 seem to have better results. You can Odin just the DL09 radio but if you want the EA28 radio you have to Odin back to stock then OTA to EA28.

I flashed JAC's kernel w/ voodoo & colorfix last night, using the back support files, and everything is good. However, I had previously flashed the JI6 modem for the better reception, and the back support files revert the modem back to JI2. Does anyone know for certain if the JI6 modem can now be reflashed without any ill effects? The thread in the Dev. section is silent on this question. TIA.

Shouldn't pose any issues at all... Ahhh, I see what your referring to. I'm not sure why the official back ported files zip contains the kernel or modem. If you'd like, here's a stand-alone flashable JI6 modem.

Pass. Thanks. Now it's perfect, pending FroYo when it shall be more than perfect...

Thanks much for the advice and the link. Works well.
I've been running each version of SuperClean (currently 2.7) since it was released by adrynalyne. In my limited understanding, I believe that changing a rom does not change the radio being used. My radio (baseband version) is currently listed as being DL09 (see attached). Is there a way of updating the radio and is there an advantage of doing so? If so, does anyone know where I can find the best/latest radio for the Fascinate that will work with SC? I think I read somewhere that one's choice of radio can affect GPS performance. My GPS is currently working really well. Does the radio affect battery life (currently not very good) or other things also?
You need eb16 or eb01 radio to use froyo, sc2.7. Sc2.7 is removed and 2.8 is out now. There is a all in one odin pack on andriodcentral that gives you root, cwr, and sc in one pack. 15 minutes and done.

Bob-o, not quite sure I understand this comment, since I'm running Froyo (SuperClean 2.7) just fine with my older DL09 radio. I guess I'd like to know if there's an advantage to updating the radio, or should I leave it as-is and just keep updating the rom?

The EB16 modem will not work with the VZW Fascinate. If you want to update the baseband, update to the EB01 baseband. You may get slightly better battery life, and reception will also probably change slightly, though probably not enough to really notice. To update, you need to find a tar with the modem.bin for EB01 (or whatever baseband you want) and flash it via Odin. See here for instructions on flashing.
I've heard from some users that the DL09 radio works better sometimes than the EB01 radio. Some have reported better battery life. I'm running the debloated deodexed stock EB01 with the DL09 radio and it works fine, although I'm not certain yet if there's any improvement or not.

Both DL09 and EB01 work fine with all versions of SC. There's really no reason not to flash, unless you're uncomfortable doing so (I assume this isn't the case, as you're running SC ). You might get slightly better signal or maybe better battery life. You also might get worse. You won't know until you try it.
If it doesn't work as good as DL09, no harm done, just flash it back.

The problem isn't your radio; it's your kernel. The default kernel for that rom is 100 uv, which is too much undervolting for some phones to handle.
The PB&J kernels (the family that includes the default one) are found here. These kernels can just be flashed in cwm, you should probably wipe cache/dalvik first, but there shouldn't be a need to do a data wipe. Enjoy!
For a less aggressive kernel, try the 50 kernel, and if your phone still has trouble, try sv. And be sure you picked voodoo and imnuts (not aosp).
Okay ill try this thanks. So u think its okay im on eb01 and can I flash ec01 radio thru odin without reflashin ron or do I have to do that again too.

I've only been able to find the ED04 modem update. I have not been able to receive OTAs since I reverted from the GB leak. I ODINed DL09 and used EA28 & ED01 update.zips and am now on ED01. Every time I've tried OTA, I get "Server Unavailable".
Odin back to DLO9 and allow the ota from there. Something about changing up the build (such as different baseband than build) messes with the ability of the phone to properly connect to ota. The update zips may change something that is essential to ota. I am not certain but I have used this method consistently due to problems with others. I could be mis-interpreting your problem but I think you will find that ota will work with DLO9 as the starting point.

Thanks for helping but If I'm not mistaken, I tried to OTA from DL09 & DI01 but failed, which is why I used the update.zips from here to get to ED01. I never had a problem before I tried the GB leak.
You say you reverted from gb..was that an mtd gb leak? If so did you use the atlas2.2 pit file in the re partition box and revert with the official vzw tar( the dl09 or eb01) when you used odin? If you did not, I'm sure that will cause issues.
I'm not sure it will help your specific issue you have, but I know you always have to use those to revert back from an mtd setup.

I reverted from the GB leak from p3droid, after ruining a SD card.
I tried again returning to DI01 & DL09 with Odin. I used the atlas2.2 pit file as recommended. OTA still says Server Unavailable. I've tried it from different locations to make sure it wasn't a signal issue.
Any suggestions? Would love to be able to receive OTAs again and be fully updated. Stuck on ED01 through manual zip updates.

Odin to DL09
In the thread download the DL09 to ED04
then use CWM to go right from DL09 to ED04 in one shot!
Super easy without the silly OTAs
That's just the modem though, right?

Yup it sure is
I would try using odin to push the vzw official eb01 tar with the atlas 2.2pit and repartition checked
Let it boot fully and then try ota...I know if your modem doesn't match your rom it may cause ota update errors

I really appreciate the help guys. Going to figure this out sooner or later.
I've tried going back to DI01 & DL09. Those were the official versions and what I've always done & I tried the atlas 2.2pit file as suggested earlier. I've also tried installing EB01, which I think was a Froyo leak.
Before, if I tried an OTA and wasn't on an official version, it would say No Update Available. Now, it doesn't matter if I'm on DI01, DL09, EB01 or ED01, it says Server Unavailable. I never had the problem before until I tried the GB leak.
Thanks again for the help and would appreciate any further ideas.
The first time I flashed a rom I knew I was never going back to stock...might I ask why do you want stock? warranty issues? I know its all a matter of personal preference and I don't know how much of a difference there is between ed01 and ed04 but I know landshark made an ed01.tar that is stock and will get you close to what is currently stock..might even wanna try and odin that and see if you can ota from there?..just thinking out loud really.

I'm having the same issue and I'm hoping it's a good enough excuse to get a new phone from verizon.

here is how to get back to stock and update without huge OTA's
Thanks for the assistance. I've updated to ED01 with the update.zips on here. Would like to get to ED04. ED04 supposedly had some tweeks for OTA improvement (ironic) and less missed calls. Any ideas to get OTA working again would be appreciated.

Once you ODIN back to DL09, there is a post about how to get to ED04 without the huge over the air updates. It basically involves ODIN'ing DL09, then using CWM to flash a zip that will take you straight to ED04. I used it after I was already on CM7, and it works if you are on other roms as well.

The modem one...was the most useful thing EVER.
out of curiosity, i have cm7 on DI01 and i am not getting messages and the messages i send are blank. would any of these methods fix the problem? im thinking it could be the radio. I had the OTA Ed04 but for some reason had to go back to DI01 to flash the rom.

I although radios are rom/kernel independent, I don't know if the radio is completely the problem but I wouldn't use that old if a radio with that new of a rom...
I have had excellent results with the ec09 radio...radio reception and quality seems to vary from phone to phone so try a few but thats just my 2 cents

I would try both and since the ec09 needs to be unzipped and then flashed (its not hard but its a lil extra work..either way id leave it for last unless your comfortable unzipping files) the install instructions are right in the same post with the link to download..its in the dev section
I would try ed01 or ed01 first because those are available in an odin version..enter download mode..flash in odin...done..if you don't like either of those, ec09 works great for me
They can all be found in the development section. In the stickies there is a post nitsuj wrote with a list of all roms/kernels/recoveries and radios find then all there

After updating to the latest MIUI, I am having issues with data and wifi. No matter what I do I can't get them to work. I'm currently running MIUI 1.11.4 with whatever kernel it comes with and ED05 radio. Should I try to odin a new radio or flash a new kernel? Thanks.
I would odin ec09 radio
"better to be safe than to be odining" -me
Go back tot EC09 then. EC09 and ED05 are pretty much what everyone uses. My phone usually prefers EC09 on most Roms. I am currently using ED05 on Miui 10.28.1
I guess most people with the GB roms report better connectivity and speeds on EC09 radio vs ED05. Personally I use EC for all my roms. I've got nandroid backups of just about every GB rom and even a stock ED05 rom and even the stock I use EC radio.
"better to be safe than to be odining" -me
Ec09 gives far better data speeds imo. avg. 1.3mb/s down on ec. only get .75mb/s on ed05. although different areas will experience different results from what I have read.
Ec09 works great in my area nice speed and very little issues

Cool. Thanks for the responses. I have one other problem though. I can't figure out how to "extract" the EC09 file using 7zip. That's what it says I have to do in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132236
Would anyone mind walking me through this process? (Or posting a download link for EC09 radio if it's not too much work?)
Thanks

Thanks but I know that's the article where I can find the file that I need to extract EC09 radio from. I downloaded the 7zip program and the file that contains EC09 but I can't figure out how to extract EC09 so that I can odin it.
