[Q] replacement through dell. warranty question. - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dell is sending me a replacement phone due to some problems I have with my current one. My question is, my current phone is rooted. will dell notice that? and will that void my warranty? If so how do I bring my phone back to stock?

Of course it will void your warranty once you are rooted. Just flash the 340 rom back and you are done.

Dell have had my phone back twice with dj steve's roms on it and both times it came back fixed with a fresh new install on it.
To get back to an unrooted state, simply download the 340 pkg file, copy it to the sd card root rename it update.pkg and flash from recovery. It may even be as easy as doing a factory reset from stock recovery.

If your hardware is locked then you can't get into download mode and consequently not being able to go to stock. To know if you're hardware locked, take the SD card and SIM off, now insert back the battery while pressing the volume buttons and plugging in the USB cable. This should get you to the yellow download screen.
And yes, you don't have to be rooted to go back to stock 2.2, you can use Odin to and flash JK2.
Oh and yes you can unroot with superoneclick. I think there's an option there next to root if Im not mistaken.
Thx for replying fast.=)um if I use superoneclick to unroot sill it go back to stock 2.1 or cm7 the Tom I'm using nw?sry real noob here..just got my vibrant last week n screwed it.=_=
Is there any other way to downgrade/replace cwm 3 to 2 other then flash to stock?Thx really much.=D

No, unrooting doesn't effect your rom/kernel. And no there isn't any other way right now, sadly.

For the thousand times, rooting/unrooting doesn't change whatever rom you're on. Regardless of what that maybe. If you do as per the guide you'll be ok, check the youtube video and do as he does, it aint rocket science.
Besides, JK2 aint called "Froyo that doesn't brick" for nothing
im stuck with the same probelm,
if i'll flash a 2.2 kernel on top will it restore/enable the option to flash other 2.2 roms using clockworkmod?

1. Have a 2.2 rom on your SD card
2. Download the file attached at the end.
3. Put it on your sd card
4. When you get to CWM, click apply update.zip from sd card, you should then find yourself in CWM 2.5.1.2 where you can flash 2.2 roms.

Return to stock without computer

Is it possible for me to restore to stock without my laptop? I won't have it for a week. I'm unlocked and have Romancers recovery. I went from alien to CM7 and back to alien but when I tried wiping in CWM my build is still showing Alien.

Do you have any recovery installed? And check the pudding thread that may be can be helpful
This happened to me when i tried to install CWM using rom manager when i didnt have my bootloader unlocked. You can flash the SBF and restore that way. Or you can flash the pudding zip using rsd lite and it will return you to stock but w/ easy set up for root and unlocking bootloader. Pudding is really easy. Check out the thread. Basically just download the file and flash it using RSD lite. Problem will be solved.
I fixed it the long way. Telstra SBF flash then unlock and away I went. Still can't install gobstopper said bad file regardless of how many times I have download it.

No Response from RSD Lite.

Been trying to unlock my mophos bootloader and I've been very careful to make sure I do it right and not brick my phone. I installed RSD Lite 4.9 but when I plug my phone to the usb and reboot into rsd nothing happens, my device isn't listed either. Am I missing something? (Using Windows 7 64 bit.)

If you are on 2.3.5 you cannot unlock. If you are 2.3.4, download the Root-Unlock-Relock pack (links located in the Photon Compendium). It been available since April and has RSD lite 5.6.
Yes I am still in 2.3.4 and rooted. Would I have to get rid of my root to unlock the boot?

If you pulled the files form my site you need to use 7-zip. Rezipping them in a standard zip format is on the list but it will make the files larger.
Thanks guys for the help, I have my bootloader unlocked after several tries. Only problem now is that most of the pictures on my sd card are now corrupted. Has anyone experience this too? I was under the impression that this process wouldn't affect my data while the card was still mounted so I didn't consider going through the trouble of backing up. In all honesty this wasn't worth loosing my files. But thanks anyway...

This all happened while I was trying to flash the MIUI rom. Went through the configuration and when it said I was done my phone never recovered from the boot image screen. So I tried flashing a few more times and even picked a different zip file all to no avail. Kept getting an "error while flashing boot image" so I decided to do an advanced restore. When it was all said and done my phone came back in but most of the data on my sd card was corrupted. Hopefully I will be able to recover my pics and stuff...

Hi Marz, does this mean I should stop trying the Photon Torpedo method since the only tidbit of files I need is the photon-torpedo.tar which I am waiting for someone to upload again before I try to work with my 2.3.5 Photon? ;(

[Q] Back to stock ROM just to be sure

Hi,
I'm currently on 10.1 ROM but I'd like to try the last old stock ROM by Motorola and then go back to my 10.1.
Which are the steps should i follow?
I thought
1) nand backup from recovery (to save my actual cyanogen unofficial epinte-olympus 10.1)
2)searching on the forum i found this . I think I can flash this stock from recovery right? (i'm not english speaking language). Or should I take this? But this second is not flashable from recovery so Is safe? if i flashed this second one i lost revocery mode so i can't reflashed back the 10.1??
Thanks in advice

Did you make an initial backup of your stock ROM right after you unlocked the bootloader?? If you did, then you should be able to restore that.
1. Go into recovery
2. wipe data, cache, factory reset
3. go to backup and restore
4. and restore the GB backup.
if you DIDN'T do a backup initially, then hopefully someone here has an answer for you, because I don't. sorry.

Flash a fruitcake.
are you en att user?
If you flash ThE att fruitcake, it wont let you go to cwm.
if you want to go back to to cm10.1 you might install with fastboot The CWM, and reboot into cwm before it boots to att. If you boot into att it will kill tour cwm.
So fastboot tour cwm, and reboot directly un cwm.
Every time you boot ib att 145 it kills tour CWM.

145 had a recovery that reflashes the stock recovery after flashing a custom recovery. You need root access to delete the file that causes that to happen, then custom recovery will stay. Somewhere here on xda there is a page that lets you flash 145 like a fruitcake. If you don't want 145, you can do 141 with no recovery issues.

i flashed the 145 fruitcake. the fruitcake is already rooted, right? so even the fruitcake flashed the stock recovery.
so there is a file to delete that stock recovery, besides de feuitcake itself?

yes. As i said, it will be in the system partition. I don't recall offhand what the file name/location was, but i do know there is a script called boot from recovery, it ties into what i'm refering to.
I believe 145 is rooted, but i was already rooted before i flashed 145.

The definition of a "fruitcake" is "100% untouched stock system", therefore a real fruitcake will never be rooted.
what about bootloader?
i read that someone removed the bootloader lock from 145 ota, so you can update from 141 to 145 and your bootloader wont lock.
so that is not a fruitcake anymore?

That would be the method i used to go from 141 to 145. There was a thread with the zip file of the ota that can be flashed via cwm. As i said, i'm not sure if its rooted or not, but its a fairly simple process. The bootloader remained unlocked when i used this method
Fruitcakes never include a bootloader.

So that means that the alternate method of upgrading from 141 to 145 via cwm is a fruitcake, right?
