I was trying to revert to stock with odin and it froze on 'do not turn off target', so i left it for 5 min but still nothing so disconnected the phone and got the 'phone ! pc' screen but connected straight back to odin from there when i reconnected usb.
I tried again and this time it froze on 'dbdata.rfs' i think so left it for another few min but still nothing so disconnected again thinking id just be able to give it a 3rd try but the phone wouldnt do anything, no recovery mode or download mode, tried all button combos and still nothing.
I found today after trying a few more things that it gets to a screen with red writing.......

doesnt it need to be able to turn on to download mode or something for that to work ?? cos it doesnt do anything apart from that screen in the pic

What you have to do is when you see the phone to PC screen hold the power button in until you see that screen pop up for the second time, as soon as it does plug in the USB into your phone and a com port should show up. After that your good to go. You can Odin back to stock from the phone to PC screen. It happens to me every time I use Odin and forget to disable Voodoo first. Good luck man.

tried that loads of times but still nothing

Kyle, you tried with the battery out, sd card out, and sim card out to get back into download mode right?
Loading odin, usb into pc, plug usb into phone, holding both volume buttons and then inserting the battery back?
Also, you may want to re-download your stock files for ODIN.. and check the MD5 (if they were given) to make sure your downloaded files were good.

yeh, everything out and tried with both my usb's but still just stays black

Do it with odin open... see if it connects and if so just try flashing it...

have always had it open when trying and still nothing

Man I thought download mode can always be brought back... well the only thing now is make a jig r whatever that is...

The same screen that you posted the pic of happened to me too. After messing with it for five hours r so I was able to get it into download mode. After pulling the bat and plugging it in... so weird that you can't do it...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

i read somewhere that someone said you can get to download mode from that screen but iv held buttons, unplugged plugged back in but still nothing
if the phone has to be on or whatever for a jig to work, like the 'phone ! pc' screen it works on maybe plugging a jig in while on that red writing screen will take me to download mode ??
worth a try but need 1 first

I read the same thing when I Google it. They said once on the red screen just go striaght to download mode from there, but I was never able to... it just shut off everytime... ya maybe the jig. Stupid thought but maybe it had something to do with it, when mine finally went to download mode my bat was almost dead the moment I flashed it the phone died when I un plugged it... maybe worth a try...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

i cut the charger i got with the phone down to make a jig out of the end of it, i got right down to the board but only looks like its got 4 pins, 2 on the front and 2 at the back
looking closer it looks like theres 2 soldered together on the back and then 1 by itself but the 3 should be on the front

You've probably seen this, but:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Micro-USB.jpg
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551

i chopped 1 of my usb's up after that but still nothing
after i put the usb in the phone and touch the resistors on, like an hour or 2 later the phone's warm so it does something just doesnt show on the screen

I had similar situation.
Try thid
1. Pull the battery.
2. Connect USB cable to pc.
3. Open odin program in the pc.
3. Hold vol up and down key and power button of phone and plugin usb cable. As soon as you see the vibrant screen leave the POWER button only. You will see android icon - aka download mode. Let go of vol keys
Insert batery now.
Check Odin for com connected.
Now you are ready to flash.
Good luck.

Did I brick?

I have read tons of threads on this and none of the answers are working for me. I was running Nero v3 and flashed a newer voodoo kernal. It booted back into CWR. I guess I hit the wrong option and now the phone will turn on to the Vibrant/Samsung screen and nothing else. No download mode and now recovery of any kind. It has been on the Vibrant screen for 45 min and no matter what I attempt, it will not do anything else. I would be willing to tip someone that can get me fixed.

I remove the batter, sim and sd.
Hold vol up and dwn.
put battery in.
I have the same Nero rom you do and ran in to the same problem. This is what worked for me. You're going to need a computer, usb cable, your phone and battery.
1. Take the battery out of your phone and make sure it is off
2. Plug the phone into the computer with the USB cable *Without the battery in*
3. Put the battery back in the phone
4. Wait for the charging screen to come up ( the screen with the green battery)
5. Press the power button to let the phone boot up
After these steps the phone should boot up normally and you should be able to go to either your back-up rom or install another in rom manager.
Like I said this worked for me and I hope it works for you as well.

That didnt work out. Im still at the battery screen.
You almost have the right combo for dl mode. Assuming you have your drivers loaded, lets begin. First things first have odin open on your pc, your pit and tar files loaded, ready to flash your rom. Take out battery, sim, and sd card. Phone off, plug the usb to pc, hold down both volume buttons then pop the battery in. It must be a pc, a wall outlet sends a different charge and wont trigger dl mode. You will see a com port light up in odin, hit start and sit back, it should only take a few to flash. If it hangs for more than 5 minutes at any one particular part of the flash, close and relaunch odin and repeat, boot to dl mode etc. Oh and if you dont get dl mode the first time, try it again, sometimes it takes a few goes to get into dl mode.

WEll..... this did not work after several attempts. I can not get into dl mode or recovery or anything. I downloaded and installed Droid Explorer and it sees the phone but there are no folders and none of the plugins will work for reboot to recovery, flash recovery etc. Do I need a stand alone recovery file for Droid Explorer to work?
Keep trying. Take the battery out, let it sit for a few minutes, and try again. Still not working? Try, instead of holding down both volume up and down, try the same method, all cards and battery out, usb cable into pc and phone, hold down the volume down only, then pop the battery back in. I know it can be frustrating, one time it took me 45 minutes to successfully boot to dl mode trying over and over.
Just know, if you're seeing anything at all on the screen, you are not bricked, and it is possible to recover. The volume down only method worked for me the first time I had the same screen you are seeing. If you're getting frustrated, walk away for a few, go get some fresh air or do something to take your mind off it and come back to it when you're fresh.
Try both ways, with both volume buttons or just the volume down. Being sure to remove the battery after unsuccessful attempts. Diligence will prevail, don't get frustrated easily, and keep trying.
Also, once you get successfully flashed and back up and running, flash this recovery fix. After flashing this, I can get to recovery and dl mode so easily its stupid. Of course all the steps I am telling you are what I had to do before I flashed the fix linked below.

you said you hit the wrong option? It may help speed things along if you say what you hit and all, PS dont mess with something you dont know how to fix it will bite you in the ass.

Thanks Br1cK'd for the info. I have tried it both ways and everytime I put the battery in with the usb cable in, the phone will not go past the gray battery image with a frozen loading icon in the middle. But I continue to try.

4) plug USB into the computer
5) plug usb into the phone

Just to be clear, plug the usb cable in, hold both volume buttons while popping the battery in. From what you are describing, it sounds as if you are releasing the volume buttons when you pop the battery in. Even if you release one or the other and try to press again, it will not work, and you have to unplug the usb and start the process again. Can be a pain in the ass, I know. You must hold them down and keep them held down while trying to boot to dl mode. Man, if you are anywhere near colorado springs, I'll do it for ya and flash that fix for this I posted earlier. Just be sure you do not release the volume buttons when popping in the battery.
What works for me, is to hold the phone face down in my palm, with the usb cable plugged in. Find the right angle to hold it and keep the volume buttons depressed, and in goes the battery. Again, good luck friend.

That's exactly what I have been doing. If the fingers slip off, I start over. It is the oddest thing. I have experienced troubles before with other phones, but none this difficult. Im not real close to CO or I would take you up on it. I'm in TX. It doesn't matter how long I hold the vol button after the batt is put in, it only shows the gray batt and non-animated loading icon.
Someone mentioned the hardkey lock. I have never heard of this...

[Q] Micro USB jig boots in NORMAL mode why ?

I received a micro USB jig for the Galaxy S2.
In order to test in (my phone works normally with the retail kernel in it) I turned it off and plugged the jig into it but it booted *normally* NOT in download mode.
Is this normal ?
Your JIG is broken probably
Try turning it off, pulling out the battery, inserting the JIG and putting everything back in there.
Faulty JIG, the 301k or 300k resistor is not on the correct pin (4 and 5).
when you put in the jig, you don't need to push any hardware buttons. if you press power, it might boot normally, but if you let it stay off, then plug in the jig and wait for about 10 seconds, the download mode should appear. if that doesn't happen, indeed i would agree that probably the resistor or its placement might be faulty.
Thanks,
I'll try to open in and check if the contacts are not broken.
or the resistor is not 301k. You can check it with a multimeter.
I hecked with my meter, it appeared 300kOhm, which is correct (a few % error of my multimeter allowing).
I took a few pics pf the jig. I saw a very smapp component (probably the restistor with a print "3013" (or "E10E" uside down ?).
But I am not sure whether the pins are correct.
It is on the right side seen towards the socket and the wide side of the plug on top. I don't know whether this is pin 1 and 2 or 4 and 5.
Does somebody know this?
*** EDIT***
I saw a poor soldering contact on one side of the resistor. I held very carefully a hot soldering iron against it and saw it soldering.
After cooling I tried again and YES !! it booted in download mode.
Anyway thanks for your help.

interesting pictures anyway!
I have one of these and also did wonder how I might test it - don't actually want to use it in anger unless I have to!
So, switch phone off, plug this in and watch as phone comes up in download mode. What then? Just switch it off and remove the plug or just remove the plug?
I accept this is a newbie/clueless-type question - apologies in advance. In my defense, my SGS2 is back with the suppliers where it appears to have gone "missing"

As soon as it boots into download mode you can remove the jig. To turn it off I normally just pull the battery. I think holding the power button might work as well but I never tried, so don't take my word for it.

The only way to get it out of 'download mode' is removing the battery (as the power button does not work then) and installing it again and then power it on normally.
I have got out of download mode using the power button numerous times. So you don't have to pull the battery.

Same here, using the power button which just needs to be held for a while until the phone reboots.

I just made my own jig with a breakout board plus a 100k, 200k and 1k resistors in series
Booted into download in under 2 seconds, and i turned it off as I always do from download mode using Vol-Up+Power.
If anyone has problems with making your own jigs, you can buy them from amazon for around £4-£5, if you're worried about the supplier, I think that amazon dispatches them as well.

Really? Cuz Ive been turning it off using the power button after using the JIG. you do realize it takes +/- 10 seconds for the power button to work in download mode right? Its to make sure you dont accidentily switch the phone of when hitting it.
So do not pull the battery, use the power button. Its safer and your hardware will like it better.

I tried this recently and all was ok - except for the message on the screen saying DO NOT POWER OFF. I waited for a while before deciding it was ok to pull the power - despite the message.
I'm sure I should have known, but hopefully this will help others who are experimenting ..

EDIT: Make sure your battery is 100%
1. Grab a Beer
2. Pour a Shot
3. Get Smokes
4. Take a deep breath
5. Download RDSLite and install
6. Get 198_7 from Shabby (Link around here somewhere?)
7. Take off back cover and remove battery
7a. Take a shot and sip of beer
8. Open RDSLite, Upper Right, find 198_7, It will come up in box in lower right
9. put battery back in Photon
10. Hold Volume down and power button
11. When fast boot comes up, press power down until you see "Android Recovery" then press power button.
12. You will get triangle with '!' inside and the little android dude. Press the volume down and volume up at the same time
13. You will get another menu, forgot the wording, but there is an option to kill your phone, take it.
14. You should now be ready for another shot and beer, take it.
15. When #13 is done, Hook phone up to computer. DO NOT USE USB PORT ON THE FRONT OF COMPUTER! Not enough Juice!
16. You should see phone on left side in RSDLite.
17. Install! (or Flash, it's the middle button on upper right!)
18. Grab another shot and sip of beer, watch 2 and 1/2 men, get up after 5 minutes and move mouse so desktop does not go to sleep, repete this 5 times over 30 minutes.
19. Phone will reboot, let it do its thing. Do the screen sync and other BS it ask you for, signon to Google and get contacts back, cool, your done, go back to TV and drinking.
Now, If your an idiot like me and did not have 100% battery like I mentioned at first. When you attempt to go to Bootloader it will tell you battery is too low. Hopefully you still have shots left caused your semi-f**ked!At this stage, phone will not charge battery either, just orange light.
If you have wall charger (I did not at the time), you can put battery in that and charge it.
Option A. take a prefectly good USB cable and cut it. YOU CANNOT USE THE CHEAP CABLE. You have to use the good one. Take the Red wire and put it on the positive of the battery, take the Black wire and put it on the negative, tape it down and plug in battery for 5 or 6 hours. Go back and start over now.
Option B. Do option A except put red wire on positive post of phone and black wire on negative post of phone, install battery. Go back and start over. This is like jump starting a car!
I did this last Wednesday, trust me!Good Luck!

It's my brothers phone and I dont mess with it.
He says it only shows that when you are holding the power button.
He has tried to get into the stock recovery and it still only shows this.
Any ideas?
He is completely stock (no root custom rom or recovery)
Maybe a bad battery?
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Whenever you want to get into recovery with the 3-button combo, just unplug the USB charger. It worked for me back when I had GB on my Fascinate. that was ages ago though.
Just flashed a JB rom
Yeah thanks. I just got into recovery and did a factory reset.

I know this is an old thread but this problem never went away. I finally have time to work with it.
I was able to do a factory reset and the problem went away for about 30 mins.
When it started to do it again I went ahead and used odin to flash back to stock even tho it was already stock.
Still no go. I even bought a new battery and still the same problem.
It had been like this for 2 months now.
Any ideas for a possible fix?

It is unplugged? So, you hold all 3 buttons down until SAMSUNG logo shows up, and you continue to hold everything until it turns off again? Then you let go, and it should reboot into recovery.

Last time I had it booted up it was working fine.
I turned it off then back on and all I get to show up is the battery icon.
If I hold all 3 to get to recovery it will go into a bootloop until I let go of the buttons.
If I hold Vol up and power it also goes into a bootloop until I let go.
If I hold Vol down and power the battery icon will stay on screen as long as I hold it and the bottom buttons respond like normal but nothing onscreen happens.
If I just hold power it does the same as Vol down and power.
This is all without being plugged in. And I have tried using 2 different batteries.

Ohh, ok I thought you meant it did this when you try to get into recovery..
So it is on stock gingerbread? [EH03]
You could try using Odin and restore it to stock, but you would lose all your apps & data.. I'm not positive that it would do anything, but if after doing that it still has this problem, most likely it is a hardware problem.
I suppose it has been over a year since it was bought? Samsung has a 1-year warranty, I had to send mine in after I got it used on craigslist--twice in fact, they ended up replacing the main board. I sent it in 11 months after it was bought, a month later and I would have had a terrible phone. [stability issues & usb port would not connect to PC, only charge]
Yeah it's well over the one year warranty.
I can eventually get it to boot up if it is plugged in.
I'm thinking it's a hardware problem too.
I have had this problem on stock and I used Odin to flash it to stock anyways and flashed powerwash.
It still has this problem no matter what I do.
I may try an aosp ROM just to see.
Thanks for your input.

Okay, no problem, hope you get it figured out.
Also I'd recommend a cm10 ROM I have ParanoidAndroid which is pretty good if you like fooling with the layout and dpi for each app.

[Q] XZU self brick

Hi
Today my XZU just bricked itself. Phone was working when I want to change track in Walkman, but when I unplug headphones and hit the power button the phone was not responding, same when I plug charger or connect to pc even in flashmode the phone doesn't respond. Nothing happening, on pc nothing show up. It working on official 4.3, no root, no unlocked bootloader. What was happened to my XZU?
Hold power and vol up for about 5 secs should vibrate 3 times

Open the sim slot, there's a red colored button near sim tray. Press and hold until you feel vibration ...

For headstrong hang use reset button and for normal hang use vol up+power until you feel vibration...

But didn't help me
After ordinary flashing c6802 india ftf with FlashTool phone rebooted and... nothing more
Not even flash, fastboot, vibration - only black screen.
Accidentally, got it to my ear and I can hear periodic beeps every second

Disconnect everything then press the red button until you feel vibration...
If you can't feel the vibration then plug in your wall charger and wait for about an hour and try flashing again...

No reaction on red button, the same silent beeps somewhere inside
Plugged in, waiting...
UPD:
Ehm before flashing had 80%+ so it will take a whole lot of time before it discharges If it lost 1% overnight while being on and checking mail I don't know how much it takes when it's off but beeping.
Now I have blinking red led and it reacts to red button with three vibrations. Still no luck connecting and flashing, it is saying that it's a USB HID device and FlashTool says "Device connected with USB debugging off".
At least something, not totally dead.
Exactly how are you trying to get into flash mode?
I got my zu recovered from flashing red led. Have to make sure it if fully powered off.
