[Q] X10 Mac Address Change/Spoof How to? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all, i would like to say hello guys and thanks to every developer in here.
I'm trying to change my x10 (FreeX10 from here) mac address, but i've tried a lot of commands like:
ip link wlan0 set address xx:xx:...
most of them just returns me invalid operation or siocsifhwaddr error
i've tried the app Set Mac Address with no luck.
Tried to find the /etc/wl/nvram.txt there is no file in there.
Tried to look for a file with any WL inside, most of them seems code not configuration.
Have someone already been able to change this?
I need this because in my work everyone can have only on mac address signed to, so if i want to use wifi i need to set every thing to the same mac address.
Sorry my bad english.
Thanks in advance
Ruan

It may be because of my lack of knowledge on linux system, but i couldn't understand most of the commands in there, tried to reproduce but i got nothing.
Does anyone knows any step by step for x10 using terminal commands if possible to do this?

Clone MAC address

Hi,
I have strange internet provide that lets only one MAC address on network. Long story short, I have to change a Wifi MAC address on my 8525. Any ideas?
I would prefer something simple, maybe a simple aplication to do so.
I have read post like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322225
but, it is complicated, since I need to be able to change it back to original on daily bases with no access to external computer.
Thanks

Sadly that's the only way it can be done; the WLAN MAC address is stored at a fixed offset within the ROM - the post you mention above is a guide to patching the ROM to update it with the required MAC address.

1 thought as my cable provider is like that to a certain regard,
Get a wireless router. then register the mac of the router with the provider, everything else is transparent to the provider as it would appear to come from the router ans is all ip based, aqs no Mac based services ( ie: netbios ipx/spx ) are used on the internet only on local network
hope this helps

X10 Proxy problem

Hello All,
I know this is some how a repost of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849814 . But I feel that the title is not specific so I created another thread.
My work uses proxy to access to the internet with transproxy. I have tried to look for these setting in the X10 and there is no where that allow you to do this.
I finaly found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766569 I followed the instructions and when trying to run the program it gave me an error message "No iptables binary found in this ROM !" .
This sucks big time I cannot use the wifi @ work.

Mac Address

Would anyone know why a ROM would not produce the correct mac adress and just leave it as blank? Because if you do not have a Mac Adress you cannot connect to any wifi network... any help would be appreciated
A did a quick google search and found this

another thread said something about the kernel flashed to many times, but I doubt that is the case.

WEP Cracking with bcmon?

Hi Guys
I wish to learn WEP cracking on android using the following: http://bcmon.blogspot.ca/
I have a SGHT989 running CM 10.1. Please could someone provide a simple tutorial. The monitor mode is working well for me... I can use all functions including running aerodump, wash, besside-ng and bcmon terminal. While running besside -ng, it even said to use aircrack to open a .cap file to see WEP key. I was not able to find this .cap file.
I would really appreciate some guidance.
Regards
Bump.. please help. If I can get this working, I will post a youtube video as to help others who may also be struggling.

location of *.cap file
I also just recently got bcmon running on my device (hisense sero 7 pro). After much searching through the sdcard and internal memory, I have all but concluded that besside-ng simply is not saving a .cap file.
Even though after running it on my old router it claimed it had a handshake and saved the information for the WPA key in WPA.cap.
I'm sure its something simple I'm just overlooking. Does anyone know where the cap file is stored? Or how to get besside-ng to save the cap file? I'd appreciate the help!
For future reference though, I'd like to add that I have not been able to get reaver for android GUI to work. It appears to activate monitor mode but keeps getting stuck when it waits for a beacon from the target device.

How to remove or change "POCOPHONEF1-" prefix in device name?

Hi,
I recently rooted this device for purpose of changing MAC address and removing the "POCOPHONEF1-" prefix in device name. I managed to change the MAC but I can't seem to find a solution for other problem. I tried editing build.prop, it didn't work.. I also installed root essentials and edited "Device Hostname" (which shows the exact thing that I want to change) it would then automatically reboot, but when I check back in root essentials, the Device Hostname is reverted to the default. Changing "Device Name" in Settings->About Phone still doesn't remove the prefix. Any suggestions?

Yes, I tried both of them. net.devicename doesn't do anything for me. As for the second one, it only changes the name after the hypen (POCOPHONEF1-devicename) . What I want to get rid of is the POCOPHONEF1 before the hypen.
Hi. Any solution found for this? I also want to do same thing with my Xiaomi phone.
EDIT:
LOL. I forgot I already resolved this in the past. U can use the following apk for that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigos.hostnamechanger
Works with my phone, MIUI 11.
