Called customer care, stayed on the line for 40 minutes, and 4 reboots of my phone. They don't know what the problem is. There aren't any outages in my area either. The service isn't disabled...
What's the problem?
Anyone?

So my story begins 2 weeks ago. I noticed that my EVO3D would not sustain a data connection randomly. It happened more often than not at home (where I spend a good amount of time). The 3G symbol would not blink or show any activity. Turning off "mobile network" and re-enabling would sometimes work. The majority of the time it would just hang. It would say "Turning on" and just hang there, it would never actually turn on. This would also have the side effect of not letting me make or receive calls. I'd get a call origination failed message. This is while having 5-6 bars of service. There are other sprint phones in the house and they work fine, so guessing it's not a poor signal issue.
After scouring google for a while it seems like this problem crops up with other phones as well. Sadly none of the information I found had any answers. Calling Sprint up the tech was baffled as well.
I decided to just exchange my phone since I was still within my 30 days.
So far so good. I've tested my data a few times while at home. 1.5Mb/780kb. Aside from it seeming to take a while to initiate a data connection everything seems to be fine.
Now I found out that only 1 out of about 7 calls make it to my cell phone when I dial with another phone. I'm not sure what's causing this but I'd guess it's because of my spotty data service on this phone. Could it be a software issue?
At my wits end right now. Ideas?
just wasted another 2 hours on the phone with sprint.
after hearing a voicemail pop up without hearing my phone ring at all I realized the issue is still around.
sprint techs did the usual slurry of tests (ie. checking MDN/MSID, data provisioning, and eventually a full hard reset).
Even without installing or syncing anything to the phone it wouldn't place a call. I keep getting a "Call origination failed" message or "Error code 67". This would indicate it's not a google voice or software problem.
The tech's only resolution for me was to take it to a sprint store repair center to have them do diagnostic work on it. This is a brand new phone. I'm not sure what they're going to turn up.
When is the Samsung Galaxy S II being released on sprint?
Brought my phone to the my local sprint repair center and they ran the Slate (acronym for something?) on it. Everything checked out OK. They weren't any help and it took about 2 hours.
Came home and was not able to place or receive any calls. Sprint customer service reps cite that their have been outages in my area. I called my girlfriend's sprint phone from google talk and it rang in about 5 seconds. What the hell.
This is pretty much my exact issue, except on the EVO 3D as opposed to the EVO 4G.

Alright, So I'm on CM7.2 RC0 KANG. I have the stock UCKH7 modem with Default APN settings (Default for CM7.2). HSPA+ and 3G are enabled, never seen my phone's 2G/Edge icon, don't even know if it has such.
Most of the time, I recieve and send texts on time. But the last few days (and occasionally before) I send a text, it says it's sent on my phone, but the end user doesn't get it for a couple of hours. This is happening with certain people/networks.
I haven't seen this issue with Sprint users (I text 3 sprint users about 30 a day in, 30 out combined). They are able to receive and send me texts with no issues. (so far)
As for ATT, I text my close friend very often, nearly 50texts in and 50 out a day. Lately she receives my text around 12PM every day if I send my texts out after 9 or 10PM. I get her texts at around 4AM every day (they just woke me up, about 10 of them).
My other friend on Verizion usually gets them, but today I just got 4 texts at the same time as the previous girls texts. Just a bit before 4AM.
I don't know of anyone on T-Mobile, but I'll try to test it out with mates from Uni.
It's not location based. Sometimes when I'm texting from different locations this happens as well. Yesterday I was out shopping and two conversations died, they stopped replying, and I got all their texts some time during the night.
Before this phone I had a 3GS and I -never- had any of these issues at my house or on the move, so I know it's not my area.
Does anyone know what this is? My phone's defective? Bad modem? Bad antenna?

Go into messaging hit menu select setting go down to sms settings and you message centre number should be +13123149810, maybe that is it. Make sure auto-retrieve is enable as well.

I don't think I have the SMS center settings, but auto retrieve is checked
Btw, don't think the S2(ours atleast) had CIQ. Lol
Its an issue with my phone. I got my mates phone and sent the girl the same text from both of our S2 and she got his. Replied too. Gonna call ATT to see if I can get a replacement. Same rooms and same modems. I rooted both phones. Good thing my jig just came in.

No problem man. I'll post an update to see what Att does.
Hi XDa folk,
Got a problem with my new Samsung galaxy S2 that's stumping (and infuriating me). It's tricky to Google a solution for.
ISSUE: Several times a day, for several minutes at a time, I'm unable or send or revive text messages. During this ~5 min window I am also unable to make or receive calls. Outgoing texts will time out and outgoing call just stay at "dialing" and then time out. The issue resolves itself after a few minutes.
NOTES:
• This started when I switched to an iPhone on Sprint from my Samsung Epic 4g on Sprint. Thinking it was the iPhone issue, I switched to a Galaxy SII... which does the exact same thing.
• I have signal bars the whole time
• my girlfriend, who shares the cell plan and my house never has this issue (she has an Evolution 4g)
• tried updating the PRL, profile and even had Sprint reset my MSID#.
• happened on stock EK02 ROM, and rooted EL29 roms.
I am SO stumped. The fact that it happens on two phones implies a carrier issue... but I'd be delighted if any of you geniuses have ideas as to what's causing this?
Thanks!
If you're still on stock firmware and ought to have good signal (outside, within range of a cell tower) your problems are likely your provider's. Why not call them up? You may be able to get some swag (or a reduced bill) if you complain loudly enough.

Ahhh, but I have. They even escalated it after a tech had no idea. They offered to give me a totally new # to try and fix it. Um, no thanks! As this tech was not, shall we say, technical, I thought I'd post here in case anyone has any ideas.
I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but it appears I am not receiving some calls and/or receiving text late or not at all. I wondering if setting the Roam setting to "Sprint Only" or "Automatic" makes a difference. This seems to be an off and on issue. Also it is starting to get on my nerves when I get text VMs atleast 3 hours after the call was made to me (keep in mind my phone never rang during those calls).
Anybody have any solutions, besides throwing this cool "buggy ass" phone against the wall?
This is a nice phone but it definitely has some bugs to be worked out. Or is all the problems related to Sprint's F'd up signals? My wife has the EVO3D and has none of these issues... wtf.

I am also having the exact same problem. I have tried playing with all the mobile settings and updating prl without success. This issue is intermitent. Also, I am periodically getting the unable to detect time/timezone message.
I am about to call Sprint, but was hoping to find a solution here. Please let me know what you find out.

I have researched the issue and it appears this issue is not uncommon. There is already an established post started for this issue, titled; "Anyone else having reception/signal issues?" Right now it appears one the ways to fix this issue is having Sprint re-provisioning your phone. Some have claimed this has helped.
I am planning on doing this myself sometime today.
But it does seem to be a Sprint conectivity issue and/or an issue with the phones antenna.
So I called Sprint and they had me reactivate, but signal still seemed to be a problem as it still roams. They recommended I take it in and get it replaced. So that is what I am going to do as I am just under the 14 day period.
not receiving calls
are you guys still having the same issue or have a work around?
I'm also not getting calls and when I try to make calls, I receive text messages that was sent in the past. I tried to contact customer support but all they've done was have me update profile and restart the phone. This is getting ridiculous specially missing some important calls.
Complain and get a free Airave. Then you'll have perfect call quality and 5 bars everywhere in your house. Done.

I have been missing lots of calls the lastbfew days, and even wasnable to replicate the issue at my house. If my wife's phone calls mine, it will ring until voicemail on her end,and I get nothing on mine unless I leave a voicemail. I have steady, if not great signal on both (100ish DB).this is only the case for incoming calls, as I can always call out from home with no problems.
I tried that scenario a coupl dozen times, and got through 4 times.
I found two workarounds so far that seem to work consistently. (Both from other threads, can't take credit for finding them, but I did test them extensively. )
1. If I am on another call, I will get the incoming call everytime. I just dial voicemail and have someone call me to test. Without fail, the call center through.
2. Turning GPS and all location services on under settings -location. Strangely enough, all of my dozen test calls have gone through after turning GPS location on. Turning it off brought the usual 20% call success rate back.
Odd to say the least...

It isn't a signal issue, the phones just don't ring. I have this issue and have full bars when attempted calls do not come into the EVO LTE. I can make calls out fine, just no received calls. Also to make this a more peculiar issue, I go down the highway a couple miles and it works fine.
I have called Sprint and followed a blog on sprint.com http://sprint.r.delivery.net/r/c/r?2.1.GT.2Z2.1hiUnF.DfhoXq..N.1QNCs.4RAa.bW89MQ__DObeFTE0 where others have the same issue, even in the same town. Sprint has followed up with no issue and ticket closed. It is currently open again..
My girlfriend broke up with me over theses missed text messages
and i missed important calls. I called sprint he had me turn off the phone while they refreshed it. Working ok so far i will say this i unrooted my phone and when i woke up i had 48 text messages from the previous week and eight voice mails from three days ago, i wonder if everyone with this problem was rooted as well.

I had the same problem with me evo 4g and evo 3d...
I had same problem. Only way to get texts or calls was to call my voice mail. Sprint started a ticket, but since I was within my 14 days I exchanged the phone. Good thing I did cause Sprint closed the ticket on me telling me it was due to system upgrades. But it was not the network at all. As soon as they activated my new phone everything worked perfect. It was the phone the whole time.

Try This...
I have an epic4g touch and this is the only "Band aid" that has stopped me from smashing my phone!
What I would recommend doing is using Google voice as your voicemail provider. Go to the options menu on the website and have it send you an email when you miss a call.
Google voice will always log the call even if your phone does not ring. For somebody like me who uses this phone for work, it definitely helps. You may miss the call but you will at least know that you missed the call and you can call them back.
It has saved me many times!
I'm running the phone stock on the latest Hboot, and sometimes my phone receives the same text from a person multiple times. This happens when my phone gets texts from anyone, but it's most apparent when I receive texts from iphones. My friend with an iphone sent me a message on thanksgiving and I received that exact message 19 more times in the next three days.
Anyone know a solution for this?
Haven't had this problem myself but I've seen posts from others who have and I believe the consensus was that it's a network issue. I wanna say people were reporting it when using an Airave too...Are you using one by any chance?

not using an Airwave.
It's known to happen when network is bogged down on either end and it is the holidays
i have had it happen to me before. it was on thanksgiving so maybe the network bog down theory is correct. only was happening with one person and i was texting multiple people that day so i figured it was something on her end. she uses pay as u go or cricket or some other lame company
