Some of you may remember the old Commodore Amiga- It was a PC in the 80/90's that introduced things like multitasking, multimedia, and coprocessed graphics when they weren't commonplace and sold about 6 million units. The brand has long since died, although it still has a band of fanatical followers who insist it will rise again.
I was surfing the web and ran across this. Look familiar?

Heh awesome.
I wonder if they did any adjustments to the UI to make it more 'amiga -like' or their own launcher called "workbench".
I'd buy that.
So much nostalgia for Amiga, but then I guess I'm showing my age
OMG - Amiga adopted the G-Tablet!
Those specs are pretty much the G-tablet, right? Except they list an actual HDMI output and no full-sized USB host.
I had an Amiga 1000 in '85 and blew my friends away. Used it well into the '90s.
So ... a G-tablet with an Amiga ROM?
Interesting to say the least.
Did you guys know that someone has purchased Commodore and relaunched it as Commodore USA? Can't post a link but just google "Commodore USA"
Showing my age as well, I had one in HS and took it with me in the Navy. If anyone can pull that ROM and ports it to the G-Tab you'll make a lot of us ol'-timers happy. Perhaps a VEGAMIGA Rom? I can even see some vinyl design. I can perhaps setup some AI's for those with access to SignLab, or other cutting software - Lol.
Says OS is is 2.2 upgradeable to 3.0.
It's definately the GTab/Vega, and for $150 more than you can buy them for right now. I think I could buy an Amiga sticker a bit cheaper.
Based off of the info on the site, it's definitely Google Experience Android. The boot sequence on the 7" model looks cool, though:
Do they have a Vic 20 model (my first computer)? Maybe a 64 model?

Damnyou people are old.
Memory Lane
My family didn't have a lot of money when I was a kid so I couldn't afford an Amiga. Instead, I spent my summer job money on a Commodore 128 instead (with dual-sided floppy drive) and spent what was left over on my first car (1976 Plymouth Volare coupe V8) from a family friend. Ah... that brings back some really sweet memories...
I still have the 128. I haven't had the time to play with her in a few years and was looking for a good home for her since I can't give her the attention she deserves.
Original Amiga owner here (yeah old). Still have a boxed set.
In the news now is that The new Commodore is launching a c64 with new pc innards, blue ray etc. Looks just like the old one though, rumored to go around $700 to $800.
Saw that too. Rumoured to be a netbook in c64 clothing.
My family was soo poor that we could only afford the Texas Instraments TI-99a.
I remember spending a whole afternoon programming a polar bear walking across the screen. Then having no way to save my work after running it.
That and rhe knock off games of pacman and spy hunter.
Those were the days.

The photo that has been making the rounds of the new 64 that looks the same as the original 64 is incorrect. The new version looks pretty modern like other all-in-one PC's in a keyboard form factor.

No, that pic is accurate.
They are getting ready to offer 3 models. The C-64, the Vic-Pro and the VIC-Slim.
The Vic models looks a little more modern/sleek

I have been corrected. You are right. I had read an article about a week ago that said the updated C-64 was going to look like the VIC-Slim. I guess the author of that article had jumped the gun and reported crap. Thanks for clearing that up.
Speaking of the Amiga, did anyone ever get decent emulation running for the Android? I'd love to have Workbench on my Gtab for giggles.
Never had an Amiga, although my Uncle had a few and was a huge fan for a while.
Heh. My family was so poor, my first computer was a second hand Trash-80 from a garage sale.
Still got it, somewhere! Tape drive is kaput, though.

Well, the new / upgraded iPhone has been announced. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't wait for the iPhone 4S and went with the unlocked SGS II. I can't believe they didn't upgrade the screen size!

SGSII win!!
What a huge let down, samsung is releasing tons of sgs2 varients(att/tmo/sprint/intl/lte/hd lte/note/prime) while apple simply upgrades the soc and camera after all this time and says its new and magical.
Screen size
Micro SDXC 64GB+
MKV + others
drag n drop media/files
Better Customization
This is what's lacking for me to even consider changing sgs 2

In a nutshell as ive already said i will never purchase anything Apple related regardless of the specs while they are "closed" and not open source.
..........
just been reading the article on MSN news about the the release and it has a 'APPARENTLY' new feature called the siri double tapping the home button and you can him/her whatever that is,a question... a simpler version was already implemented into sgs2 (vingo) and with all the sueing battles going on between apple and samsung....shouldnt samsung sue apple for this

they are no where near samsung
And they took the Android's roller blind notification.
Apple we're great for kicking the arse of the smartphone back in 2007, but they have fallen behind. Quite disapointing really. If they don't come up with something more "Magical" next year, they might become the new Nokia?
In graphic department the iPhone 4S wins even at a higher resolution (iPad for instance beats all other smartphone and tablets even if they have lower resolution).
Second it wins by more apps also iOS5 is pretty cool although it copied some Android features I guess. But they made it look more sexier, like the notification and widgets look alot better on iOS.
But the downside would probably be it being down clocked to either 700-800mhz since the iPad 2 is at 900Mhz.
But Samsung Galaxy S2 wins everything else

I was on that boat too SG2 for president!!!!
pr0n. can close the topic now. jk
Hmmm…..
Again some people bash out against Iphone and say hallelujah to the SG2. I don’t, to neither side.
But my personal view is that Apple has created a product that attracts tens of millions of people. And I believe that the majority of the buyers of the Iphone just want a telephone simple in use, and to show to the outside world that they are trendy.
Not everyone phone users are interested in flashing and tweaking, like us reading XDA. If people want to by a quite expensive Iphone, let them do so. I have been doing it and maybe I will do it again someday, but not the 4S.
Right now there is two SG2 and one TAB 10.1 in our family. And I’m not impressed by the build quality of none of them. On the SG2’s, random boots, loose home button. And the TAB with Newtons rings that has to be put in the freezer for 5-10 minutes, as a temporary fix. Never have I been using the freezer for anything other than food and ice cubes, before now.
Well, they have been sent for repair today, and I hope the TAB shelf in the freezer can be used for other things when I get it back.
So why did I buy Samsung you ask? Well, I bought these units within 45 days and I didn’t know it would be so many problems with 3/ 3 Samsung products. But I give Samsung a chance and hope they will be okay when I get them back.
Some years ago, in a social event, I met the national sales director of a Japanese car company. After a few drinks he started bashing out on the quality of the cars on his biggest competitors.
One other person asked this sales director if he regularly test drive these competitors’ cars? The sales director hesitated a few seconds before he answered ‘Yes of course!’ . But no one believed his answer, and I think almost everyone present didn’t feel he was credible.
And neither do I, when people are bashing out on products that never have been in their hands.
Love my sgs2 but it appears graphics wise the 4gs will trump the s2, based off how well the ipad 2 performs. Not something I care about that much because I don't use it for games or graphic intensive operations, but I know some people on here will secretively wish for that kind of performance.
If those battery stats are right it looks like it will trump the s2 in that department.
Although I wouldn't personally own an iphone, mainly due to the hype being over the top, anyone denying this will challenge or beat the s2 in a few departments is in plainn denial.
A lot of iphone users had already bought the thing before knowing what the specs were... Mmmm no comment. Mind you I'm sure there are some samsung users out there that would do the same
Hmm that's pretty boring because actually nothing changed (for my kind of user at least) : iOS is still the best platform for games and ease of use, Android is still the best platform in terms of actual choice of the hardware and freedom of use. An iPhone will work the exact same way with a dual core processor, the only thing that may change is the quality of the games, which i do not care about since i don't care about gaming on a phone in general.
It's also kind of interesting to see this pathetic attempt of Apple at convincing iFans that they don't need a bigger screen, good luck with that...no wonder Apple shares dropped by a nice 4% just a couple minutes after the 4s was revealed

HP was emailing out surveys to a select few people people with questions such as, "How satisfied are you with your HP TouchPad?", "What do you want more of?" and, "How much did you pay for your TouchPad?”
Looks like it's full steam ahead for HP, lest we forget, HP is, in fact the largest PC maker in the world, they decided to keep their PC division, that means tablets too. And things haven't been slowing down for them either. First it was the Slate 2, then the Envy Laptop, and now there's rumors of a new TouchPad.
nice renders....
but if there is anything then it would be running windows 8 or something.
I got that survey too----i wouldn't read that much into it. It'd be nice, but I can't see them reversing themselves again

Dunno, looks pretty good, Microsoft may buy webOS to avoid other companies obtaining the patents. Microsoft has been rumored to be purchasing webOS patents, leading to what some believe to be a webOS/Microsoft hybrid.
http://www.informationweek.com/byte/commentary/personal-tech/tablets/231600600
This is a good thing because Microsoft wouldn't necessarily have to buy the patents outright. Whitman has already mentioned a "TouchPad 2.0" and I think the TP is deserving of a second chance now more than ever.
Web site from China mainland ?! how many % can be trust .......hahahaha........
Those images - photoshoppery fakishness.
Ask yourself. Has HP not been on the ball lately? New Slate. (Which is lovely by the way) New Laptop(s). Press Conferences. Site redesigns...
New slate? The Slate 2 is just a HP Slate 500 with a better gpu, and slower cpu, with the rest of the specs essentially the same(well its using a slightly newer n-trig digitizer, but nothing to make a current 500 upgrade). It has a lot of Slate 500 owner actually bothered that it took HP a year to bring out something that is more of the same, and didn't even wait to use the newer Atom N2800 cpu. Can't really say that a company on the ball, just a company not sure what to do until the consumer reaction to Windows 8 comes out.
This stuff is all made up, there is no way Microsoft would be involved in making some "Hybrid" of Windows 8, it's doesn't make any sense, Windows 8 and WebOS are competing platforms, they are not complementary to each other in the least. Also why would it be the Touchpad 3, there has only been one generation of the Touchpad.
Edit: a little bit of Googling reveals that no one else is talking about this, OP is creating his own "news".
There has been a 2nd Gen TouchPad, it was the 7-inch TouchPad Go.

Looks pretty nice... for that is most likely a made up device. At this point I think it all BS and/or wishful thinking.
How much do we really know about Windows 8 being tested on TouchPads?
Nobody ever said anything about that story and it's everywhere.
But that's besides the point: Are you telling me that, when the whole Windows 8 tablet evolution happens, that HP, the biggest PC maker in the world, is not going to make a tablet with Windows 8 on it for consumers?
Now, that would be crazy. It was wise for HP to halt production of the TP1, Windows 8 is right around the corner.
I bet the TP3 is already made.

From the data in the image you uploaded it would appear that you just created it in Photoshop and it's a bad Photoshop at that.
Stop trolling.
None of that is even the topic at hand lol,
It's part of the whole process when a device is produced, all screen images are simulated. Have you seen a Galaxy Tab commercial lately or a Nokia commercial, or any commercials?? lol
I digress ...
I'd like Windows 8 tablets as is, but integrated webOS sounds like a really good idea, since Microsoft was supposed to have been purchasing the patents anyway.
The question is: Would the TP3 be able to compete with the iPad 3? Of course.
HP would have an excuse to sell it at a high price point. Microsoft gets those patents to save their OS from being a bunch of boring blocks, and suffering the same fate as their Windows phones. So it works for everybody, on the corporate side at least lol!
Sure HP may make a Window 8 tablet, but that as nothing to do with WebOS or the TouchPad.
I'm patient and for the new tablet, and not shoot it down so quickly.
HP may be deciding how exactly this is supposed to play out. Is it going to be dual boot, is it going to be hybrid, what new features it will have..
They've mentioned the possibility of webOS becoming part of their product line as in computers and tablets, but everything they've said, has all been in support of it, so I like what I see.
Honestly, I'm more excited for this than I am for them continuing webOS just by itself. It's more than profitable for them.
I will keep you informed and I will update you.

lol sorry but if you want a high quality tablet, this is not for you.. this is a great tablet to jump into the tablet game because of the low-cost but comeon now... its not that powerful..
Hahaha these little crap tablets give Android a bad name! They're saturating the market with low-price, low functionality tablets that virtually NO ONE wants. When it comes to cheap tablets I'm pretty sure the Fire and the Nook will be king (but mostly the Fire), so there's really no reason to have these things. They give ifans a reason to bash Android IMO.
This actually looks better than the Fire to me. I might be a buyer for my 7 year old...Why not? It doesn't look terrible. Wonder if it is completely 100% lead-free? lol
I'm cool with this. Cheaper tablets give us more options. There are people who basically just want a tablet to read ebooks and play the occasional angry birds. That's what's Android all about. Having options.
LOL, looks like asus slacked for too long and got beat by some cheap china tablet company...

If your okay with Apple's limitations and price point then the iPhone isn't a bad choice. What limitations you ask?
-Non-removable battery
-Non upgradable memory
-Proprietary charging cable (not a con if you already own some)
-Can't sideload apps without jailbreaking
-Device choice
-Custom launchers, keyboards, widgets, etc
Some people want something that just works, but others want something they can tinker with and personalize and don't mind dealing with issues. Sort of like the car enthusiast who buys the classic muscle car that might need some work compared to the average car driver who buys something new and reliable.
Also try checking this out.
I can't remember this list I came across at the moment but go to google and type in 20 things iPhone users can't do that android users can. If I find it tomorrow I'll post it.

For me, the advantage of Android in contrast to Apple is that the most - and quite - Apps in the Play Store are for free.
One - and the almost - point is that you can change the battery in Android phones and in the iPhones series not. Also if your iPhone would be long used the memory effect takes effect and you can throw it away because repairing is more expensive than a new modell.
In Android phones you can change the battery if you have feeling that the battery lifetime is low.

indeed! plus a 3.5" screen is just too small these days...
You will love iPhone iOS if :
1.You want something that is working for you and you willing to live with the same thing for quite a long time.
2.You won't bother if your neighbour's phone, your school teacher's phone, your auntie's phone, your baby sitter's (if you have kids ) phone are having ALL THE SAME design for hardware and software.
3.If you think that a phone can represent your status in the social.
4.If you are a boss (just kidding... it might be true sometimes, at somewhere...)
5.If you always worrying people find out what you did in last summer.
You will love Android phones if :
1.You easily get bored with what the stock is having and wish that you can do something about it.
2.You can't sleep well for few nights thinking why your neighbour's phone UI looks exactly the same as yours.
3.If you think that a smartphone must capable of doing more things and having more freedoms than iPhone.
4.If you want to take control over the phone instead of letting it control the way you live with it. (e.g : remove system apps that you don't want from your phone)
5.If you don't mind someone knows what you did in last summer.

Beats the living hell out of a 4.5" screen. Or even worse, some bloated turd like the Note.

This is the way I've started describing it:
iPhone = Automatic transmission car: All you have to do is hit the gas and it goes, you don't have as much control but you don't really realize it because of how nice it feels and how easy it is to drive.
Android = Manual transmission car: You have way more control and the potential to have more speed and power if you are a good driver. But it's not nearly as easy as an automatic and not everyone can handle it.

i own a WP7 right now xD so it´s comparable with that Automatic transmission car either - nearly not customization- but works and the user doesn't realize it. And im sick of WP7 because they don´t have as many apps as all other OS' got. The second thing i hate about it is the way how you have to unlock it... COMPLICATED :/ ( i bricked my WP7 :'D ) - The third thing i hate about WP7 are the high prices for apps... ( 2,99€ for Doodle Jump -.- )
Android: custom Roms ( Lite'ning Rom for example - but unfortunately non of my friends is using a custom Rom for Android -.- ), easy sideloading, cheap apps ( dunno about the quality of the apps - if someone could tell me how the quality is like i would thank that guy - )
iPhone: high Quality apps, nice design, MUST HAVE PHONE

Having a 4.7" screen is great but 5.x" like the Note has just sucks...

Well the beauty of Android is you can pick the screen size anything from just over 3" to 5". Personally I don't want anything much over 4" and like a keyboard so the Droid 3 was my best choice. Phones shouldn't be one size fits all and manufacturers will build whatever size phones sell. Large screens has been an untapped market so 2012 is the year of large screens. But as long as there is demand for < 4" screens then they will still be produced.
Guys,
Lets try this out. One place for all your off topic chats. Pls note, the post content within this thread must comply with all rules of XDA.
Thanks.
Thanks PG101!.. It worked well in the Nexus 7 forum.. It's worth a shot.
So.. Anyone else get teased with 60+ degree weather today only to have it drop 30 degrees a day later?

Today was somewhat nice for me in the morning, so I figured I'd open all my windows, then about 10 minutes after that it downpours with heavy winds... quite a bit of stuff got wet lol. The wind and rain stopped maybe 20 mins later.

I'm getting all that downpouring rain, and heavy winds as we speak.. Just hope it's over by morning. I got a 8:30 dentist appointment
they just shut down the OT thread in many other forums, much drama ensued
And as I mention in the op.. "lets give this a shot"..
This is like beta testing...

Haven't heard much... I can't imagine it running much better on the Nexus 10 than it did on the Nexus 7 anyway.. It... Ran... But to say it was usable as a daily driver would be a bold faced lie.. I'm curious how much they can actually trim the fat off Ubuntu without completely making it unrecognizable as a linux distribution.
lol

I can't imagine Ubuntu as-is on the N10... on one hand, it might be better because of the bigger screen, but I would also imagine stuff being super tiny due to the resolution. Maybe with a keyboard and mouse though... hmm

I've tried that surgeon simulator and it really does have the absolute worst control ever.
Here's another gameplay of the surgeon simulator.

This video was absolutely hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing.
I finally completed a successful transplant.. The game gets old fast though.
Currently in south Africa watching the Africa cup of nations. I must say the quality hasn't been so good. There are few exceptions though with individual brilliance.

i have to agree with you, African Cup this year is not as interesting as the last two editions, Argelia and Morocco off the tournament only Drogma keeps my attention
The Vellamo Benchmark score was really impressive in Nexus 10.

So... Since I'm the one who requested this thread I should try adding a conversation topic huh?
What OS configuration is everyone running and why?
For me I'm dual booting Windows 8 and Debian testing w/ Mate Desktop
Windows 8 for gaming and it was cheap enough to buy. I'm impressed with it. Also Windows 8 because Tag And Rename and Photoshop are the only two programs I never found suitable replacements in Linux for. Wine sucks and refuse to even go that route..
Debian for everything else.. Soon as I'm done gaming it's right to Debian for browsing the web, music, playing w/ Android etc.
I'm gonna go off topic here, but that's the whole point of this thread, right? What do you guys think of the fact that Google only make their products available in certain countries on the Play Store? (US, UK, Australia etc) I live in Ireland and it sucks that I can't get my hands on a Nexus 4 or Nexus 10, unless I pay way more than Google puts it up for. What do you guys think?
Might have something to do with import/export laws/tariffs with the countries involved. Only a guess, but seems plausible.

A few months impression, anyone be so kind?
How's battery life, memory usage, screen quality, browsing & HD playback performance and USB storage compatibility after several weeks of usage?
