You'd be happier without Android.

If your okay with Apple's limitations and price point then the iPhone isn't a bad choice. What limitations you ask?
-Non-removable battery
-Non upgradable memory
-Proprietary charging cable (not a con if you already own some)
-Can't sideload apps without jailbreaking
-Device choice
-Custom launchers, keyboards, widgets, etc
Some people want something that just works, but others want something they can tinker with and personalize and don't mind dealing with issues. Sort of like the car enthusiast who buys the classic muscle car that might need some work compared to the average car driver who buys something new and reliable.
Also try checking this out.
I can't remember this list I came across at the moment but go to google and type in 20 things iPhone users can't do that android users can. If I find it tomorrow I'll post it.

For me, the advantage of Android in contrast to Apple is that the most - and quite - Apps in the Play Store are for free.
One - and the almost - point is that you can change the battery in Android phones and in the iPhones series not. Also if your iPhone would be long used the memory effect takes effect and you can throw it away because repairing is more expensive than a new modell.
In Android phones you can change the battery if you have feeling that the battery lifetime is low.

indeed! plus a 3.5" screen is just too small these days...
You will love iPhone iOS if :
1.You want something that is working for you and you willing to live with the same thing for quite a long time.
2.You won't bother if your neighbour's phone, your school teacher's phone, your auntie's phone, your baby sitter's (if you have kids ) phone are having ALL THE SAME design for hardware and software.
3.If you think that a phone can represent your status in the social.
4.If you are a boss (just kidding... it might be true sometimes, at somewhere...)
5.If you always worrying people find out what you did in last summer.
You will love Android phones if :
1.You easily get bored with what the stock is having and wish that you can do something about it.
2.You can't sleep well for few nights thinking why your neighbour's phone UI looks exactly the same as yours.
3.If you think that a smartphone must capable of doing more things and having more freedoms than iPhone.
4.If you want to take control over the phone instead of letting it control the way you live with it. (e.g : remove system apps that you don't want from your phone)
5.If you don't mind someone knows what you did in last summer.

This is the way I've started describing it:
iPhone = Automatic transmission car: All you have to do is hit the gas and it goes, you don't have as much control but you don't really realize it because of how nice it feels and how easy it is to drive.
Android = Manual transmission car: You have way more control and the potential to have more speed and power if you are a good driver. But it's not nearly as easy as an automatic and not everyone can handle it.

i own a WP7 right now xD so it´s comparable with that Automatic transmission car either - nearly not customization- but works and the user doesn't realize it. And im sick of WP7 because they don´t have as many apps as all other OS' got. The second thing i hate about it is the way how you have to unlock it... COMPLICATED :/ ( i bricked my WP7 :'D ) - The third thing i hate about WP7 are the high prices for apps... ( 2,99€ for Doodle Jump -.- )
Android: custom Roms ( Lite'ning Rom for example - but unfortunately non of my friends is using a custom Rom for Android -.- ), easy sideloading, cheap apps ( dunno about the quality of the apps - if someone could tell me how the quality is like i would thank that guy - )
iPhone: high Quality apps, nice design, MUST HAVE PHONE

Well the beauty of Android is you can pick the screen size anything from just over 3" to 5". Personally I don't want anything much over 4" and like a keyboard so the Droid 3 was my best choice. Phones shouldn't be one size fits all and manufacturers will build whatever size phones sell. Large screens has been an untapped market so 2012 is the year of large screens. But as long as there is demand for < 4" screens then they will still be produced.

I'm a huge fan of illusion labs games for the iPhone and I was dissopointed to learn there were no games like TouchGrind or Sway for android, so I emailed illusion labs to see if they had any plans to port these games or something similar to android. This is the response I received:
Hello,
I'm glad you like our games. We have no plans at the moment to port those games to android at the moment. One of the reasons is that the performance is much lower on Android.

Low performance seems like a lame excuse to me coming from an owner of a beastly Samsung Vibrant. Also, my iPhone 3G under-performs most android phones by a long shot and plays these games perfectly fine. I think performance is a poor excuse with some of the top selling android devices having GPU's capable of pushing more pixels then the iPhone, like the Galaxy S line.
I think illusion labs is seriously underestimating android and the demand for high quality android games on the platform. My proposal? Show them there is damand! Download labyrinth (illusion labs only android port) rate it and leave comments demanding they port the other games! And email illusion labs at: [email protected]
Tell them how badly android needs quality games and how perfectly capable android is at games.
Some screenshots of what we are missing out on.

"If Gameloft can do it, you can too."
Hardware fragmentation is going to be a major issue with Android for gaming. Look what happened with angry birds. They have to develop a light edition for low and mid range phones. When there is no hardware standard this is bound to happen. Sadly I may end up buying a win7 phone in place of my vibrant because of this one problem....which sucks balls. I like good games...not tile puzzles, bejeweled knockoffs and the like. What is the benefit of having the fastest gpu on the market when there's sh*t for games....other than Gameloft.

You don't need to move on to WinMo7, I'm sure you and Illusion Labs are un-aware of the new Hardware requirement list of Gingerbread and the new Gaming API introduced with it for high-end 3D Games. Since this is now going to be a standard requirement for all Android phones, the gaming scenario is soon going to change and be at par or exceeding to that of iOS 4 platform.

They don't have to make games compatible with every android device. Newer idevice games don't work on older idevices, yet there are still 10's of millions of older iwhatevers in use. Android game devs could just target newer devices the same way. Fragmentation is a lame excuse.
I read an interview with John Carmack the other day and he said the lack of commitment to android was mainly do to market issues. Limited download size plus lack of built-in DRM means a lot of back end work. Building and supporting a drm system and servers to deliver the games. Not fun stuff. Makes more sence then fragmentation and hardware limits. Hopefully gingerbread fixes this.

Yea it seems HTC has lost its flare against the awesomeness of Samsung.
I got a reply to the email I sent and thought I should share it here.
Let me explain a bit further what I meant in the mail on the forum.
First of all I think the title of the thread is a bit misguiding. All I wrote in the mail was that we have no plans at moment for those two games. That doesn't mean that we don't have other plans for Android.
The comment on performance may have been a bit short formulated on my part. I know that there are many high performance Android devices that can run any high performance game. But there is also a lot of low end phones that have less performance. The problem is that we can't single out one group and have to release our games on all devices. We always try to get our games to run smooth on all devices they are intended for.
I hope my answer was helpful.
Best Regards
Marcus

Very simple, they make games for the high end and low end just like other developers. That is their loss if they choose not to.

What a huge let down, samsung is releasing tons of sgs2 varients(att/tmo/sprint/intl/lte/hd lte/note/prime) while apple simply upgrades the soc and camera after all this time and says its new and magical.
Screen size
Micro SDXC 64GB+
MKV + others
drag n drop media/files
Better Customization
This is what's lacking for me to even consider changing sgs 2

they are no where near samsung
And they took the Android's roller blind notification.
Apple we're great for kicking the arse of the smartphone back in 2007, but they have fallen behind. Quite disapointing really. If they don't come up with something more "Magical" next year, they might become the new Nokia?
In graphic department the iPhone 4S wins even at a higher resolution (iPad for instance beats all other smartphone and tablets even if they have lower resolution).
Second it wins by more apps also iOS5 is pretty cool although it copied some Android features I guess. But they made it look more sexier, like the notification and widgets look alot better on iOS.
But the downside would probably be it being down clocked to either 700-800mhz since the iPad 2 is at 900Mhz.
But Samsung Galaxy S2 wins everything else

I was on that boat too SG2 for president!!!!
pr0n. can close the topic now. jk
Hmmm…..
Again some people bash out against Iphone and say hallelujah to the SG2. I don’t, to neither side.
But my personal view is that Apple has created a product that attracts tens of millions of people. And I believe that the majority of the buyers of the Iphone just want a telephone simple in use, and to show to the outside world that they are trendy.
Not everyone phone users are interested in flashing and tweaking, like us reading XDA. If people want to by a quite expensive Iphone, let them do so. I have been doing it and maybe I will do it again someday, but not the 4S.
Right now there is two SG2 and one TAB 10.1 in our family. And I’m not impressed by the build quality of none of them. On the SG2’s, random boots, loose home button. And the TAB with Newtons rings that has to be put in the freezer for 5-10 minutes, as a temporary fix. Never have I been using the freezer for anything other than food and ice cubes, before now.
Well, they have been sent for repair today, and I hope the TAB shelf in the freezer can be used for other things when I get it back.
So why did I buy Samsung you ask? Well, I bought these units within 45 days and I didn’t know it would be so many problems with 3/ 3 Samsung products. But I give Samsung a chance and hope they will be okay when I get them back.
Some years ago, in a social event, I met the national sales director of a Japanese car company. After a few drinks he started bashing out on the quality of the cars on his biggest competitors.
One other person asked this sales director if he regularly test drive these competitors’ cars? The sales director hesitated a few seconds before he answered ‘Yes of course!’ . But no one believed his answer, and I think almost everyone present didn’t feel he was credible.
And neither do I, when people are bashing out on products that never have been in their hands.
Love my sgs2 but it appears graphics wise the 4gs will trump the s2, based off how well the ipad 2 performs. Not something I care about that much because I don't use it for games or graphic intensive operations, but I know some people on here will secretively wish for that kind of performance.
If those battery stats are right it looks like it will trump the s2 in that department.
Although I wouldn't personally own an iphone, mainly due to the hype being over the top, anyone denying this will challenge or beat the s2 in a few departments is in plainn denial.
A lot of iphone users had already bought the thing before knowing what the specs were... Mmmm no comment. Mind you I'm sure there are some samsung users out there that would do the same
Hmm that's pretty boring because actually nothing changed (for my kind of user at least) : iOS is still the best platform for games and ease of use, Android is still the best platform in terms of actual choice of the hardware and freedom of use. An iPhone will work the exact same way with a dual core processor, the only thing that may change is the quality of the games, which i do not care about since i don't care about gaming on a phone in general.
It's also kind of interesting to see this pathetic attempt of Apple at convincing iFans that they don't need a bigger screen, good luck with that...no wonder Apple shares dropped by a nice 4% just a couple minutes after the 4s was revealed
So I came across this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAs3ZiPQl-U&feature=youtu.be&t=21m49s
It shows the sgs3 playing a video and running shadowgun at the same time seemingly flawlessly. I've always been pro-HTC, I went from the Touch Pro to the Evo and now I plan to get the EVO LTE. But despite my fanboyism, I have realized that HTC products usually don't perform as well as their samsung rivals in real world usage despite what the numbers and processors should theoretically be doing. I figured the Evo LTE and just about any high-end phone released in the past year can run everything on the market, who cares? Then I see something like this and it blows my mind. I'm almost tempted to jump ship.. but we'll see. What are your thoughts?

Agreed. At least for mobile phones... Could have some usage on tablets like taking a timed class and watching a video to pass the time.
The 24nm Krait S4 Snapdragon is a very capable chip. It should have no problems doing what you're video is doing or even running 2 HD movies simultaneously while running background tasks all simultaneously even on a screen as demanding as the new Evo's.
Samsung has done alot on the software side of things ..to me its more of a wow factor than something that I would ever use. If your in a store and stuck between two phones ..they show a gs3 doing pip and your sold ..not for me ..a cool but useless feature as well as the s talk or whatever it is ..I just don't imagine using it ..its a good phone tho ..you don't have to iuse those features ..to me the new evo is more desirable..and I believe the s4 is 28nm

You sir are correct, apologies for the typo. The Krait s4 snapdragons are indeed 28nm.
I have no doubt the EVO 4G LTE could do this, and probably the galaxy s2 as well. What I really don't know is why you would need or want to do this other than to showoff.

I think its far from pointless. People seem to assign the words "pointless" "useless" and "gimmick" to any feature that doesn't fit their personal lifestyle. Keep an open mind
Samsung says this is something new and groundbreaking that just came out with. BS!!! There is already an app in the Play Store that can do this on the phone in your hand right now. Check out app developers MBFG, I believe they may even be a XDA member. They have an app called OverSkreen that allows you to have a webpage on top of any other screen on your device. I use OverSkreen on my tablet and love it! They have another app that plays videos on top of any other screen just like the Galaxy S3, it's called Stick It! (and yes the "!" is part of the app's name, lol). Check it out. Funny Samsung lies saying how they created the idea an that the GS3 is the only phone that can do this, when in fact any Android phone with the app Stick It!! can do it!!!

The PIP function on the SG3 is not new. There is an app in the market called stick it, for $1.49 that does the same thing. I bought it a couple weeks ago, and it works very well, even though honestly, there isnt really any practical use for it. Many of the software tweaks that samsung is bui8ldin ginto the SG3 are impressive, but not original. You can duplicate just about every functionality they bragged about at the announcement with apps found in the market, or on custom roms readily available for most phones. Ultimately, because the US version will not have the quad core processor, and because i have always found samsung phones to feel cheap in my hand, im going with HTC, whose build quality is usually very good. Oh yeah, that and the pen tile screen on the SG3.... thats a deal breaker for me too

Theoretically, probably. In reality, probably not, if the EVO LTE has the multitasking issue that the ONE X has, which it probably will as HTC customized the multitasking to be so aggressive/ineffective. Really bummed about this. I hope all this is not the case. Show me wrong, HTC.
This concerns me.

Regardless of HTC botching the multi-tasking of Android, our EVOs will still be able to do this easily. Did you forget what website you're on??

And somewhat subtle too
http://www.lockergnome.com/android/2011/12/26/five-reasons-to-choose-android-over-ios/
If XDA has never let you down then I'll assume you've actually perused the forums previously. If that's the case you should know the benefits of Android over iOS in most cases and the few instances in which iOS is better. If you can't make a decision based upon that then no words offered here will help you. Happy trolling.
iOS is made of junk. Both hardware and software. If you buy an iPhone take care to "hold it the right way".
stick with android, also, your on an android forum, so the reviews will be biased.
i have had both, and android phones are better.
I develop for both Android and iOS so I'll would hope I'm not biased towards one of the other.
In my experience, development on iOS is easier. The tools you get with XCode are far superior than Android/Eclipse especially when it comes to building your User Interface.
Downside with iOS is that it requires you to buy a Mac and then to spend the time learning Objective-C. For most Java developers, Android is just another library so the learning curve is lower.
Brian
Android without question.
No explanation required. lol
Every things better with Android!! With and android if you don't like some thing you can change it but with IOS you stuck with it weather you like it or not. Plus the custom roms on android is what IOS users dream of.
I've personally owned numerous iOS devices as they progressed and I have owned numerous Android devices as they, too, have progressed. I was also, for a decently long time, a heavy iPhone fan. I can say that iPhone will have Android beat in some cases (depending on what devices you compare), but if you compare both iOS and Android top-of-the-line devices, Android wins, hands down. The product is of better quality, the OS is as simple or as complex as you want to get, the specs are better, and the freedom is outrageously more substantial. With iOS, it is simple, it is more integrated, but it just isn't as great as the customization, enhancement, and freedom that android offers.
Android offers freedom, fun, and customization, whilst maintaining simplicity.
iPhone offers simplicity.
Its still ultimately your call, but I'm gonna side with Android. (This, coming from an old iPhone die-hard.)

and if you go to an iOS forum, they will tell you to stick with iOS,so,its up to you
Here is a side-by-side comparison I captured from Wirefly. It compares the iPhone 4S to the Hottest Androids right now and then it compares the 3GS to several free Androids.
Sorry about the size. They needed to be big to read.
First
iPhone 4S versus hot Android phones.
Then 3GS versus several free Android phones.
It's The Same Thing... In The End, Your Gonna Make Calls, Texts, And Download Apps.
If you go android don't go cheap to compete with the like of the iPhone you have to have the best ..if you go cheap then you are likely to have freeze ups and etc then complain about how you hate android when in actuality its not android its the hardware and the manufacturers customization to the software..so I suggest you start with the elite in the android world as a start ..also iPhone is nice I'm not going to lie..but its limited by a lot so the only thing cool is the apps but who cares android has all the same apps ...iOS is sort of customizable if you jailbreak it but nowhere near as much as android also sometimes to me when jail broken and all of the stuff you do to customize it Iphones seem less stable ..in the end its really up to you simple and straight forward (iPhone)...or simple as you want it to be (android)

Good answer
I have both, there are advantages and disadvantages of each.

Apple is a patent troll that wants to destroy all competition by patenting existing technology and suing others for using it. I would never buy one of their products, I'd go back to using a dumb phone if that was the only other option, and if Apple gets their way dumb phones will be the only other option.
They are both good os but Android is better. iOS is so plan and not funny has so many restrictions Android is free and wild. There are other reasons but this is the first thing I'll say.

lol Same here.
I would honestly go without a phone at all before I bought something from apple.
I would also go without a laptop or desktop, or any other computer before I used ios.
. I would use window$ first
(shudders at the thought).
Cross my heart n hope to die, stick a needle in apples (i). :good:
Today, Android 4.1(jelly bean)is better.
Hello . So I've wanted a smart device for a while, and It looks like the galaxy Player 4.0 will be able to fill that gap quite nicely, when I have enough money to get one in a couple of months. Anyway, what I was wondering is if you guys have any tips for me about buying, or just about using the player. I'm thinking about buying from amazon, along with an invisible shield for the screen and a case by Ringke. Also, I've set up a Google voice account to use with GrooveIP to get a sort of WiFi phone thing going on. I'll have to test it, but I think it will work. Suggestions / tips / warnings?
-Thanks!
P.S. I'm hoping by the time I get the player, team SuperNova will have a daily usable version of their ICS port (Right now it has no deep sleep, so low on battery life).
(After seeing custom themes, I've been making a mock up in GIMP, but I can't post the link as I have less than 10 posts)
Go on ebay and u can find lots of cheaper cases for sale around 3-7USD.

It depends of the device variant. His is an internationnal one so it came with 2.2.2 or 2.2.1. He needs to use odin or heimdall to update his player.
The groove ip app looks good. I haven't tried it because google voice isn't available in my country.

All I have to say is don't buy a Ringke case. I had mine for exactly 3 months, and on the upper left and right hand corners it ripped lol. I suggest getting a TPU gel case or HIGHLY recommend getting a Nillkin case seen here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nillkin-Sof...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item3a79b544cb. They both cost about half the price of the Ringke case and are way better in terms of durability. All I have to say is make sure that the screen protector you choose fits. Mines I had to trim a bit off lol, but it is reusable (water install) so that is fine.
I can vouch that GrooveIP and Google Voice work very well on this device. I use it as a wifi phone all the time. At college it connects to the internet easily and calls are clear and loud. I can text using the Google Voice app too so it is all good. My only issue with this device is the limited ram. So if you have too many apps open be prepared to deal with some extreme lag. So I suggest having like 1-3 open at a time, and going to task manager and closing out the ones you are not using.
guys help i tried odin nd kies but it doesnt detect my sgs player even i installed usb driver.. whats the possible problem?

Don't get the 4.0
My advice get the 5.0 more deb support and a ton more real estate for games and movies, I know youll say it's only for music but you WILL use it for more, just do yourself a great favor and get the 5.0

My main concern about the 5.0 is the larger screen is the same resolution as the 4.0. Does the DPI/pixel resolution look good on it?

I can't exactly remember how it looked, but it wasn't really bad. If you're used to some of the newer Amoled displays on the high end Samsung devices, you might not think it's very good, but I do know that the 4.0 screen IMO looks great, I loved it. I own a Galaxy S2, and I honestly couldn't tell any real difference from just glancing at them.
Well, I guess I'll wait till I buy to decide whether to get the 4.0 or the 5.0. If hanthesolo's build is far enough along. (HW acceleration/Deep sleep)

the galaxy player 5.0 has the same resolution and stock build.prop dpi setting as the 4.0 but the 5.0 has a lower physical ppi.
I've got the 5.0, and you can see the pixels if you look for them, but it's not bad. If you plan on using the micro sd card slot a lot, the 5.0 has easier access I think (I Belle the 4.0 has to go through the battery panel). The screen size is great for sharing text and video, letting two or more people see it with ease. My wife has regularly preferred top read off my player than her Samsung Stratosphere.
As far as a case, I'm not sure you need one. I've had mine since February, and while it's taken some heavy falls, the worst it has to show is a little marring of the plastic where it hit the concrete and a hairline crack in that corner. (You really have to squint to see the crack).

Just piggybacking off what Obscuresword said. Google Voice is fantastic on the Galaxy Player. GrooveIP sounds better on my end than my cell phone, but I have heard some callers complain that I echo and no amount of playing with the settings has changed that. Also, he is spot on when mentioning the multi-tasking. For a device that no one really cares about it can do some pretty amazing stuff...but when it gets bogged down don't expect any amount of snappiness whatsoever. It was sold as a media player and has barebones hardware to match that description. This is no SGIII.
Knocks on the hardware aside the end result is this: I leave a dumb phone in my car(for emergencies) and take my 4.0 with me wherever I go.
I have a 5.0 and my dad has a 4.0 and here are the differences.
5.0 has more battery life than the 4.0 and usually lasts longer.
The sound chip on the 4.0 is much nicer than the one of the 5.0.
Both of them can do the same job, although I would suggest using LCD Resolution to make it look better.
You have two speakers on the 5.0 rather than the 4.0.
That aside, the main difference is the form factor which can turn some people off. My local best buy has the 4.2 and 5.0 on display so I would suggest going there to see how big they are. The 4.2 is like the 4.0 only with a newer Android OS 2.3.7?. That adds docking features and updates some of the Google Apps but nothing big.
I would suggest getting case and screen protector when you can get it. They help a lot. Also check out the roms and kernels and see what you like. That might persuade you one way or another. I wouldn't suggest the 3.5 as its screen resolution is bad but its very small.
Apps
Groove IP/Google Voice (You can make calls on your tablet)
HeyWire (txting app)
With these two you have mostly a phone, except it can't get on 3g networks and the like.
Titanium Backup Very useful since you can downgrade your apps, make backups of your apps and freeze system ones that you don't really use without uninstalling them.
PowerAMP Great music app that I use. I love it but try it before you buy it.
Hope this helps.
