So I have an unbranded nordic combined X10i with the 2.1.A.0.435 firmware.
Which sucks, because I do not think the trade-off in battery time and the fact that the phone has gotten excruciatingly slow is worth it, seeing as how I never use dual-touch, nor do I understand any sort of Arabic language, Farsi or Thai.
So I read that I need to root my phone in order to go back one update, which was a pretty good one if I remember correctly?
But I'm on a mac, and seing how z4root doesn't work anymore, anybody have an idea?
Long winded but VMWare+XP?
Download superoneclick....
That will work for sure
I thought SOC only worked on windows?
I don't have windows or boot camp, so it has to be doable on Mac OS X or the phone itself.

I have a solution! Get universalandroot apk. I think that's what I used actually..
Hi... I used universalandroot. It didn't work on 2.1.
So I guess I will try installing mono on mac os.... then try using super one click..... Se should do more for mac..... something like nokia did. Now you can update n97 from the os x update app.....

What are you guys using to tether via usb? I've searched and found nothing. It's on my roommates non rooted x10a.
I use PDAnet for USB tethering. There's also an app called Easy Tether, but I haven't tried it...

I use the free version of EasyTether. But, it doesnt open https websites, which can be frustrating.
Some carriers block certain apps especially AT&T, i have a X10a R2CA016 i just used sideload wonder machine you need a pc though and for those mac users i would recomend usind parallels desktop.
Other than that it depends on how you do it!
I need help i have been trying to get my phone to tether but no luck i have PdaNet installed but my computer states that the phone is not attached when obviously it is, tried barnacle no luck either, aka ive tried a couple apps some of them give me an error saying that my kernel does not support this feature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
any you guys have a suggestion?
would be greatly appreciated

i also have problem go to my gmail & hotmail, it simply won't open any web email.
have anyone know what to do or any other tether app that work?
thanks
I did a quick search here but could not find any answer.
I am running rooted Android 2.2 on my Fascinate. PDANet works just fine every time I start it. But after a few minutes the "USB connected" message would pop up and prompts if I want to connect the phone as mass storage. I already checked the USB Debugging option and tried all three USB connection setting options (mass storage, media player, ask when connected) but the problem still remains. To prove it's not a PDANet related problem, I also tried EasyTethering and got the same issue.
Has anybody here experienced the same problem with tethering? I used wireless tether before but the connection keeps dropping. So I really want to be able to tether through USB. Thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention that my computer is a MacBook Pro.
It is a Mac issue. I have a MacBook pro and I have the same issue. It doesn't do this when I am connected and tethered to a PC. Anybody have a Mac solution for this?

I had suspected Mac might have been the culprit. Thank you for your response, otherwise I would have flashed back to 2.1 by now.
Do you think running parallel desktop on Mac and tethering through the virtual Windows is going to help? I know the hardware is still Mac. Unfortunately that Macbook is the only machine that I need to tether.

Yes, I think running windows would probably solve the issue although I'm not sure. It's in theory. I think the Mac OS is the issue. If you try it let me know the results please. I haven't done it because I would have to format my Mac partition and that means that I would have to backup my Mac and that means getting an external HD. Know what I mean?

Parallel desktop runs Windows on top of the Mac OS. So it shouldn't cause this much disturbing, although it would be less likely to help with this tethering issue compared to bootcamp --- I will update this thread after I try. Thanks again.

Actually, what I was talking about was bootcamp. Sorry, I misunderstood. I think you're right, I don't think the parallel would work. Either way let me know. Thanks.

I was wondering if anyone could put a windows computer onto a android. Maybe just a virtual computer on android that is not remote controlled. Is this possible to have this on an android phone, if it is, pleaz give me some suggestions.
when windows 8 rolls around maybe we'll be able to install that instead of android. the current windows versions just aren't compatible with ARM CPU's however.
Never will you be able to run any current version of windows. At this time you might be able to get Ubuntu working on your device with a ton of hacking. Windows is closed-source.

It doesn't take a ton of hacking. Not just to run an ARM image. Most devices support chroot with loopback devices. I have BackTrack 5 and Ubuntu 11.04 on my phone using these.
sent from my Galaxy S Captivate
you would need an x86 emulator or some sort of virtualized x86 machine running on arm. it would suck... big time.
time would be better spent looking at what you need windows for and just making an android app that does that.
I've seen bochs port on iphone few years ago with win95 installed on it.
It was veeeeery slow. In my opinion is wasting of time to play with it
I would not say its impossible. But its just behind impossible. Til now no any android phone running with Microsoft platform. Even I am not seeing anything like this in coming future.

I've been looking for a way to root my girls phone, thing is that I only have access to a Mac and I can't find a version of alpharev for Mac. So, are there any other options?

I'm not sure if 2.2.1 will work with Unrevoked?
Edit: Hmm, it's been too long since I've kept up with the Aria development. Nevermind, looks like you'd have to update to 2.2.2 and then use AlphaRev, which you can't use.

Boot into a Linux Live CD and use that to run Revolutionary.
So I just picked up a new Tbolt, sealed in the box. Has not been activated yet.
I am going to root it and have rooted many Dinc, Evos etc with Unrevoked, but I have never been able to obtain root on windows and always have used Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)
Should I stick with Ubuntu (now on 11.10 but can revert as its a spare computer) or is it better to use the current revolutionary with Windows?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

I am definitely using Revolutionary, but they offer it for Windows and Linux, that what I am up in the air about... which did you use? and what version of Windows or Linux did you use?
Also, I see you are running Infected... looks pretty sick and has good feedback...is that the first ROM you would suggest flashing?
Thanks
Worked fine on windows 7 64-bit for me.

Ok, I will give Win 7 64 bit a try.
One more question:
Does it matter if I root before I activate the phone?
I have rooted in past before activation, but this is my first 4g LTE phone, so not sure with the SIM card and all that.
Thanks
Revolutionary works fine on Vista as well
Sent via my HTC Rezound using XDA premium app.
I've used Windows 7 64bit and Ubuntu 11.04/11.10 and revolutionary worked well on both. I would activate the phone before you root. No real reason, its just my opinion.
Damn... I was gonna root before but I will wait. It's a Christmas present to myself so I was planning in opening up a rooted phone...but I guess ill have have all Xmas day to do that after the kids pass out from excitement
Hehe
Thanks for advice...very much appreciated

Just got the bolt from best buy mobile. I traded my Dinc2 for this. I only paid $2 for it with trade in. They updated the phone to android 2.3.4 , can I still root it with revo tool even though it has been updated.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Yes... On of the mods on the irc revolutionary Chanel verified that for me today. He said it will work on any Android version, but hboot needs to be 1.04 or 1.05

I rooted my wife's phone via Revolutionary on Gentoo (~amd64) a couple weeks ago. She was already at the latest OTA release. For the most part it worked fine. I did have to manually download and install ClockworkMod (somethng was hardcoded that broke on Gentoo). Overall it was a painless process.
