Clockwork - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running Gingerbread and I can't figure out how to get into cwm on it. I want to install rc2 and don't know how. I dont have my computer now. Is there a way to do this?
Simply Galaxy/ Sweet Honey v3.0 RC1 Gingerbread. \m/

you need to odin to stock first. there is no other way around it.

Downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 I SEARCHED ALREADY!

Ok before everybody goes crazy over here and starts to roast me for putting up such a noob question and all that and telling me to search.. Here it goes.. Dont do it please!
Ok so i got TeamWiskey's Froyo 2.2 i like the rom and everything but the phone and contacts.apk suck they are terribly laggy and etc. So also my launcherpro plus seems to lag a bit more on 2.2 so now im wondering how to revert back to 2.1 without using ODIN! i dont do odin i dont know odin and i dont wanna mess with odin.. So is it possible i can just flash a 2.1 kernel like TeamWiskeys Core v3 and then flash a 2.1 Rom? Or no its not possible..
I have not done it personally, but if you flash the stock JI6 kernel you could probably just restore one of your nandroid backups of stock (assuming you have one).
Just install Bionix or something

I dont think installing bionix or fusion will get me back to 2.1 kernel or will it? And hmm i dont want to risk anything nd im not sure if i have a nandroid of 2.1 or is my nandroid 2.2
just flash a rom with a kernel that is built into the rom. any of the bionix roms should do.

Yes, almost (It think all) custom 2.1 ROMs have a kernel built in.
I know Master Rom does
Bionix does
Fusion does
etc
If you open the zip & go to updates & see zImage then yes
Alrite cool so ill just try that i didnt trust myself into doing it and risking a brick so yeah thanks for the help guys//
Ok it worked somebody can lock this now.. All i did was flash another fusion rom =]

[Q] Help a confused brotha out!!!!

Alright guys... This is my situation. I'm running the old Axura 2.2 edition. I saw some screenshots of nero v3 and and read that flashing different roms isn't that hard. The last thing I need is to brick my phone. Therefore I have some questions...
1) How do I flash a different rom from my current rom? Do I have to flash back to stock???
2) What is this Voodoo thing about? I see threads about it making your phone fast but then it can also brick while flashing????
Please help!!!!

1) Its prob safest to flash back to stock. It gives you a clean slate to go on,
2) Voodoo is commonly called a lagfix, but its more then that. It converts your file sytem from the facory rfs to an ext 4 format. Check out supercurios thread in the development section for mere info. PLEASE make sure its disabled before flashing another rom.
3) Read thru the nero thread for proper flashing instructions.

ok so i need to read up on Odin on how to flash back and currently going to supercurious thread... thanks!
Safest to flash back to stock (use odin), But....... you really don't have to. The risk is it might soft brick and then you would have flash back to stock..... So flash away can't hurt. Just remember if you have a lagfix on your phone disable before flashing
I have flashed from Axura 2.2 to Nero3 to heathen, to Ginger Clone and back to Axura I never flashed back to stock....... I have had no problem.......
For the most part they are from the same leak......... so the kernels are not that different.

ODIN tutorial for you...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810130
Going back to stock is not a necessity, but advised, since some settings and fragments from a previous ROM can remain and cause issues....not always though. You can always give it a shot, disable voodoo first, then just flash Nero through CWR.
wow thank you guys soo much... you guys cleared up everything... now im comfortable!
Glad to help. Let us know how it works out.

[Q] Updating to Gingerbread :)

hi guys,
i am currently on Bionix-v 1.3.1 in my vibrant and i want to update to gingerbread.
so i wonder is it possible to upgrade vibrant to gingerbread and if so,can u link me to a way how to do that ?
thanks in advance

flash GB bootloaders then you can flash any GB rom over whatever rom
theres ways to do it without the bootloaders but you'll get rainbow screen on boot and wont be able to see recovery
Flash using GB bootloader,it can fix rainbows and use any GB ROM
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
thanks guys
so do i have to install GB rom first and then flash ? or its other way around ?
and which rom do u recommond for vibrant ?
thanks

bootloaders 1st
cant flash straight to a GB rom from froyo without them
only rom i know of that can be is SH3.3, can flash that from froyo without them then flash whatever other GB rom you want through rom manager i think (i did this because i dont trust odin)
some have .tar files so you can flash them through odin to get to GB but voodoo sometimes messes up so you still need the bootloaders to go to recovery and disable it if it does
easiest way's to flash the bootloaders then just flash whatever GB over whatever
thanks again
i have flashed using gb boot loader
i am going to try Simply Honey 4.0 Revolution(JVQ GB 2.3.4) custom rom.
will post what happens

eveything works fine for me, abit of lag now and then but thats to be expected
theres a 2.3.4 problem with calls for some people but it seems random, iv never had it on 3.8, 3.9 or 4.0, some people have had it on all of them
hi,
all things working fine
but just wondering how to upgrade to Medium OR Large sized version of that OS.
i am currently on the light version of Simply Honey 4.0 Revolution(JVQ GB 2.3.4)
any ideas ?

all GB roms are taken from i9000 because we dont have an official GB for our phones
dont know what its because of why calls dont work for some people, they worked for everyone on 2.3.3 i think
dont think radio works because there isnt any radio drivers for our phone so just uninstall it
video calling is there for the people that have put an FFC into their vibrant, it doesnt change anything
MIUI FTW
If you wanna flash a GB ROM trust me MIUI 1.29.11 is the way to go. You will be surprised how nice it is. Just give it a try.
P.S. I flashed it coming from a 2.2 ROM (trigger 3.3) without flashing bootloader. Just did the same old flashing process (wipe, wipe, wipe)
well,
i am on 2.3.4 and i want to reverse back to a 2.3 rom "Team Toxic "Crazy8".
so i do have to install old bootloaders according to them.
anyone got a idea how to do that ?
thanks
hold on to your pants

i came from bionix 131 was a great rom but get ready for bad assness
1. assuming you have cwm, flash cwm recovery, pick vibrant mtd, click yes then chose clockworkmod 2.x
2. go to download rom, go to cyanogen nightlies and pick perhaps the highest build number unless it has really bad remarks.
3. do the usual clear cache, clear dalv, flash it, fix permissions
let it boot and sit for a few and hold on to your panties...lol
nope gps does not work. but from what i remember bionix gps was pretty spotty as well
dont forget to wipe data, anyways reading some of the posts. simply galaxy is cool, love the blue but cm7 is waaaaay smoother and highly customizable. and you dont need to flash gb bootloaders. and if you want to go back once you flashed gb loaders, your gonna gave to get froyo boots back, from what i remember. cm7 has made it too easy to flash, was kind of tricky in the beginning, but did it for the fun of it

Depends did you use the early UCLD3 leak? If so don't nandroid back.
If not then you can either flash like normal or restore a backup.

You don't really need a good computer to flash back to stock, just a USB cable. The easiest way is to flash back to stock JFD 2.1 with Odin and then root your phone with update.zip B, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice then flash the ROM (twice also if going to JB 4.2). Here is a link for both flashing to stock and rooting with update.zip B http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 . If you decide to stay on 2.2 you will have to use the modified 3e recovery zip, I have never done this so can't really explain how to do it, here is the link though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423.

Try update.zip A from the first link I provided, it should root your phone. Then you can use the 3e method. I've never had to do this myself so sorry I don't have a straight answer for you.

Yes I rooted my phone with Update.zip B, it doesn't actually root but it gives you CWM and you can flash a custom ROM, they all come pre rooted. You should really flash back to stock if possible, it's very easy from stock 2.1. I'll do some research and see what I can come up with but stock 2.2 has a bunch of issues with rooting and installing CWM, this is why everyone recommends flashing to stock 2.1 (JFD)
Edit - it appears superoneclick 2.3.1 works for some people on stock Froyo (2.2). Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146645 If you get it rooted on stock 2.2 you will still have to do the 3e recovery step FYI

hey sorry for the late reply I just used samsungs skies to upgrade mine to froyo just put your phone in kies mode then plug it in run the updater and it should work fine and I got the root to work thanks for the help only problem I got now is making it boot into clockworks recovery so I can flash my room im still working on that ill post back when I can get it to work
Thanks for the reply. Sad news. I used Kies Mini to update and everything went fine until the reboot. well it didnt reboot, my phone is officially bricked. I bought a JIG to see if it would help wake it in Download but it does not. I have read that you can open the phone and do some soldering to get the phone back but it seems like too much for this phone. If you have any suggestions that would be fantastic.. Thanks again for your reply.
