Flashing rom from ICS to GB 2.3.6? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I searched, but couldn't find anything for this particular phone. I flashed an ICS rom onto my phone but I want to go back to a 2.3.6 custom rom. I just want make sure if anything special needs to be done before I simply flash a 2.3.6 rom?

Depends did you use the early UCLD3 leak? If so don't nandroid back.
If not then you can either flash like normal or restore a backup.

Backing up and restoring ROMS

I rooted my Vibrant and then performed a ROM backup using ROM manager. My question is, if I wanted to try a different ROM, will I have any issues flashing back to stock if I need to? I want to be able to flash back to stock and still get OTAs if I want to sell the phone sometime down the road.
thanks

[Q] CM9 to Stock ICS.

Can we simply flash 'stock ICS' over CM9? I mean will there be any probs?
I don't have an S2. This is for my friend. I tried to search for it but I couldn't find anything regarding CM9.
Thanks in advance!

Just try it and report back.
If you get bootloops, you may have to to a factory reset in recovery mode (press Volume UP + Home + Power until recovery menu appears).
Good luck !

Of course there is Stock ICS but not official one. The latest one that is released for i9100 is XXLPJ ICS 4.0.3 firmware.
Now my doubt is can we just flash it directly over CM9?
Heard from one of my friend that in 'samsung galaxy s' we cannot simply restore CM7 backup over CM9. Firsly we have to flash CM7 over CM9 and then we have to restore the CM7 backup.
For S2, downgrading to GB from CM7 is fine. But what about from CM9? Can we directly flash ICS or do we have to come to GB first and then upgrade to ICS?
Actually I would have flashed it yesterday itself but am just waiting for some replies. Till today night I am gonna wait and then I will flash it and reply here.
Just get the phone to download mode and flash with Odin. Yes it can be done

I agree. I don't think there would be a problem flashing it. Just do a "full wipe" before.
Flashed the latest ICS (XXLPJ 4.0.3) and it is working fine. Thank you guys!

I did a wipe before flashing. So all data is lost obviously.
But generally whenever we flash any stock rom or custom rom all data will be lost, right?

It's complicated, but very generally speaking - yes.
I would still wait for a no-wipe cwm of the rom to see how compatible sammy ics and cm9 ics roms are

[Q] Downgrade from an ICS Rom to a 2.3.6 ROM

I upgraded my sgs2 from unnamed 2.2.1 to SHOStock 2.1 and I was wondering how I could go back to UnNamed 2.2.1? I tried looking around, but I couldn't find a definite answer. Should I just boot into recovery and flash the unnamed zip? Or what should I do?
Thanks
Just do a full wipe and flash whatever ROM you want. I don't think it matters if you're coming from ICS.

that's right, but make sure the modem flashes as well.
You could just restore the nandroid backup, which you saved right before you flashed...

All modems that work with this device are interoperable. I'm still on UCKH7 with ICS.
Just restore your nandroid, that's all.

Like the others said, if you don't have a nandroid backup, just do a full wipe & flash unnamed. I'm pretty sure it will flash the modem that unnamed comes with, but you wouldn't have to worry about modems anyway.

[Q] gsm ics nandroid backup

Hi!
I saw that khold has recently posted the gsm ics ota. However it's only possible to flash it with rsd lite or similiar methods. I don't have access to a computer right now so is it possible to flash the ics update as a nandroid backup(if some one could upload it)?
My gsm razr is currenly running rooted 651.167.20.XT910.Retail.en.EU 6.1.5-167_SPU-15-M2
You can use this nandroid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734893 it is "Latam" but works fine on european razr.
This rom is much better and faster than stock ics.
Just sayin'...
...
Well I don't want to try any roms cuz if anything goes wrong I'll be stuck without a phone for weeks

Rooting new GS2, do it now or wait to update?

I have an ATT I777 on the UCKK6 base. Id like to root it. Its obviously still running GB and that base I listed. I know they sometime lock stuff down further with different update. So the question is, would there be any issue with updating the phone to ICS through KIES and then rooting? Or should I root it before? If I root it before will I lose root if I try to update it then, I would think so at a minimum.
does anyone know the most current base, or what it would be that I came out with after the KIES update?

Before or after it doesn't matter, our latest base (ics) is UCLE5 which is the official update.

Ok, so then go through the process to root UCKK6 and then just flash that? Id assume the other available ROMs have the kernel checked for the EMMC bug?
Im new to this phone ans Samsung in general, is this phone basically unbrickable? I see unbricking flashes and things like that

No. This phone is definitely *not* unbrickable if, by unbrickable you mean not capable of being bricked. If you mean can it be brought back from a brick, then it depends on the type of brick we're talking. If you're talking the hard brick caused by the eMMC bug, then no. You won't be bringing it back from the dead.
If you have not already, I would advise reading the post at the following link, then reading the thread related to the mentioned app:

I got the brickbug lol. Thats interesting. So basically though as long as I'm on a fixed kernel I'm ok, just check the kernel thread to make sure its fixed and avoid stock sammy kernels at all costs lol.

Nicks right. But you'll be fine if u wanna try out stock ics. Just remember not to wipe data / factory reset with that kernel and.you're ggood to go. I installed it two days ago and ran it for a while. It worked fine but the battery drain was killing me. So I switched. Good luck, happy flashing.

If you will root your phone, suggest to use ShishiROM ICS. It has a great battery life.
Im a great fan of task ROM, and then I try ShishiROM. Im using it for 3days now, no regrets. Its a great ROM.
Just try it. :highfive:

No need really, I'm so used to running ASOP like ROMS on my other phones I probably wouldn't like it anyway. I was mostly just curious as it seems that with the base I'm currently on rooting is a little more involved. I was also wondering if Sammy had maybe patched something in the new build.

Here is what I would do if I were you. When I rooted mine I was on KH7 so I used DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit then installed Mobile Odin to flash Entropy512's DD 3-7 GB kernel to get CWM then flashed a custom ICS ROM. I went back to look over creepys guide "How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter" I have read it 100 times I just want to make I got you the best info I could.... Give a BIG shout out to creepyncrawly for putting that guide out!!! Make sure you read that guide lots of great info... I did see a KK6 stock rooted package on here 1a. just read up see what is best then just follow the steps..... If you have any more questions just post them in this thread.
1. If you flash the 2c. "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
1a. Kernel + cache + rooted UCKK6 system package
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
2. Then install Mobile Odin link (You will need this to flash Entropy512 GB kernel just extract the zImage from the zip file and load it in the kernel slot in Mobile Odin)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
3. Then flash Entropy512 GB kernel to get CWM link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289460
4. Then you can flash any custom ROM you want!! AOKP is a great choice Task650 is VERY solid.... GL link

I personally love siyah kernel and think it gives excellent battery life with all the tweaks and the EXtweaks app. But I'm sure others would say fluxxi, and still others would say neak.
