I went into Data
I went into Misc
I went into Wifi
I deleted the conf file.
I rebooted my phone

No. It's merely a config wile which contains your added networks and stuff. Just delete it and reboot your phone. You will be safe.

I have the same problem and I tried your solution. ITS WORK! THANKS YAHH!
Before wiping config file you can try to forget all the wifi networks. This helps me.
Dudes, wrong section. And that looked a bit like a necrobump of sorts.

me also face the same problem and i tried the solution above and last its still happen again... anyone have another better solution for this??
Sufficient to setup the rights and ownership of the file:
adb shell chown system.wifi /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
This is true permissions for file:
ls -l /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
-rw-rw---- 1 system wifi 406 Jul 12 21:10 /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
For me it was enough to delete the last remembered network from the list. The phone started scanning right after that, and never bugged again.

Haven't seen anyone posted the CIFS module for stock Dell Streak kernel. So, attached a copy here for your streaming enjoyment, built from streak_3.09_kernel, tested on stock ROM 360.
Remember to load slow-work.ko before cifs.ko
Happy streaming
UPDATE: Attached nls_utf8.ko in case anyone needed the UTF-8 support as well.
Thank you !!!

No worry, yay I got a thank meter now
Btw looks like you're using 360 ROM as well. Do you notice wifi turning off when you lock the screen with the power button? Looks like I need to solve that one now to be able to stream music with the screen off
UPDATE: It doesn't seems to be entirely shut off when screen is turned off. Audio plays intermittently, 2-5 seconds pause, continue playing, all over again. Not skipping though
That is very annoying to me too, bcs I do a lot of Skype voicing but have to keep the screen on bcs of the connectivity issue on the wifi . Yes exactly the same symptoms but not only on the 360 also on other customed ROM . Atm I am using 2.3.3 from fardo and the same issue here too.

Good news that it isn't because a bug on the cifs module I built as I've modified some code
I think I remembered having the same problem with IM+, sometimes I found my session disconnected when turning the screen back on.
It seems to be the problem with some bandwidth limiter when screen is turned off. There is already a solution, not sure if we can apply it to Streak's firmware.

thanks alot for this mate one of the best streak mods ever!!
just to clarify,
1) flash slow-works.ko via streakmod/cwm
2) flash cifs.ko
right?

Hmm the zip files on the first post isn't a clockworkmod update.zip. You need to copy over manually on rooted systems.
But I've packaged them as update.zip in this post's attachment
Basically, the easiest way to enable cifs support is now:
1) Flash cifs-streak360-update.zip with StreakMod or CWM.
2) Install CifsManager.
3) Open CifsManager settings, check the "Load cifs module".
4) Make sure "Load via insmod" is checked.
5) Set the "Path to cifs.ko[:<modpath>]*" to "/system/lib/modules/slow-work.ko:/system/lib/modules/cifs.ko", without the quotes.
6) Now the cifs module won't get loaded on system startup, but instead loaded on demand when you start CifsManager before attemping to mount samba shares.

Tried just now with no luck
flashed everything installed fine and the services are up and running (checked via adb lsmod) but cifs manager fails stating that 'Mounting the share has failed with an error. Mount: invalid argument'. I am confident that everything is setup properly and the network share path is correct. I tried both with the netbios name and the ip address but still, no luck. Any thoughts chaps?

Try flashing with Superuser.zip rooting script. Could've been requiring mount command which came from busybox from the Superuser.zip. Not sure as I haven't ever done that without busybox and (possibly) mount symlinked.

well I have root and cifsmanager obtains root access correctly, and I have busybox installed as well (1.19 iirc).
to troubleshoot I have also tried a 'clean' mount command from shell which reads
# su mount -t cifs -o username=xxx,password=yyy //server/path /mnt/cifs/
and I still get mount: invalid argument.
Quite baffled I am

Nothings changed. I notice though that the error goes away (or at least changes) as soon as I remove the -t argument. I tried just for checking to mount blabla -t nfs and i still get invalid argument. It seems that mount cannot understand -t ??? doesnt make sense
Every time I try to use it, it always renames the access point back to "Android AP" and wipes the password as well - anyone come across a fix?

I am not quite sure what your problem is.
Do you mean tethering?
And your phone does not keep the AP name and password for its own WLAN hotspot?
I am sure that there are some tethering apps on the Market.
Maybe one of them can help you to configure a customized AP name and password and saves it for later use.
Yep that's it exactly, tethering. The AP name and password keep resetting!

This is because the permissions for the wifi settings got messed up so it can't write out your new permissions. The error handling isn't too good so it doesn't tell you about it
To fix, in a rooted terminal run this command:
chmod 770 /data/misc/wifi

After struggling with root, I tried your command and it doesn't work, says Operation not permitted
Hi all.
I have got my SGS II for 4 months and i was running it with stock rom and CF kernel. Yesterday, I was comming home from chrismas and was asked - as usual - to turn off my phone on the plane. Put it in plane mode and shut down.
Turned on for some series watching, turned off for arrival.
After that, my phone quit working: no SIM could be detected. After some research, I realized that my IMEI was set to 0 and Phone: unknown. I went back right away to stock, but it did not help.
By the time I flashed, i had no idea that efs folder did not came with cwm backup, so i have no backup of working efs folder.
I have some files on EFS folder, but i have no idea of what is "good" folder.
Can somebody point me to some direction?
I heard about some miracles perfomed by ODIA user, hehehe.
Thanks in advance.
Try this thread.
I did...
But I still cannot have access to change the efs files/dir. And still didn't figured how to have write access for these. Could you enlighten me?
Thanks!
To get write access you need to use a file explorer like Root Explorer (or similar) from the Market.

Are you getting "permission denied" and/or "read only filesystem" errors?
I take it you ARE running all commands with root priviledges?
It is working!
Thanks people! I've been struggling with this problem for only two days, but it feels like months! I needed to umount the /efs unit and mount again with other accesses priorities (r/w, i.e.).
In fact, this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261948&page=5 was the reason for me achieving this.
i had the same issue with my galaxy,
https://market.android.com/details?...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5oZWxyb3ouR1NJSV9SZXBhaXIiXQ..
this utility helped me to fix it.
Thanks to Helroz
Glad you got it working Paulo I can imagine it would be pretty stressy to have a working phone one minute and a reboot later no IMEI.

Is there a file in the files structure that houses the WPA passphrase. I have looked around in \system\etc\wifi but none of those files seem to be what I am looking for. I have a feeling it is encrypted in some file but I thought I would ask if anyone knows. Most of the devices tell me that the passphrase is unchanged when i go into the settings of already configured networks. This does not help me if i forget what the passphrase is. Thanks in advance.

If you are rooted you can use WiFi key recovery from the market to recover your passphrase. I have no idea where it gets this information though, you could always ask the dev I imagine.
you will need root to read /data or adb.
the wpa psk is clear text in
/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf

That helps for my rooted phone but not for the stupid Kindle Fire one of my co-workers has. That is the device I am really trying to extract the passphrase from. I will look at that app for my phone though.

you MIGHT be able to do it with adb without root
if you have adb on a computer somewhere try
adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Hello helpful people. I'd like to start by saying I've been rooting and playing with roms for a few years now (all HTCs) and although I've never posted a question before, all your generosity toward other folks with problems has always saved my bacon also. So thanks. However my girlfriend switched from HTC to a GS3 i9300 and have had... challenges... getting CM9 or CM10 nightlies to work 100%. All have been sorted now bar just one niggling problem. The Wifi.
When trying to connect to wifi it will see all APs, let you type in the password but will not finish connecting. The status says Saved but will not actually connect. Using stock or ARHD this is not a problem. Now my research got me to a stage where I can manually initialise the wifi by typing the following in to the terminal (or through adb):
echo murata > /data/.cid.info
chown system /data/.cid.info
chgrp wifi /data/.cid.info
chmod 0660 /data/.cid.info
Restarting the wifi afterwards fixes the problem until the phone is rebooted. I don't really understand what this means or what it does and the fellow who posted this fix simply put that, with no explanation or followup.
Now I know everyone's feelings on doing the research before asking the collective and I feel I've now reached a dead end in my search. So all I'm asking is if someone can at least point me in the right direction of what to look into? Why this could be happening and where to go from here. Of course if someone does know about a permanent fix I'd be grateful to hear it!
Thanks in advance. Thanks for reading.

this has nothing to do with this thread!
does someone find a permanent fiix of it ?
what does "murata" means? why is this file for? Having the same issue trying to port cm10 to i9070
The fix works for me!
How to I make it permanent?
why are you using CM9?
I am using 9.1.0 and except the wifi problem there is nothing wrong with it.
Are you trying to say that there will be no more development to 9.1.0 and I should proably upgrade to 10.x anyway ?
I wouldn't use anything lower than 10.1 if you have an i9300 with sds effected internal memory. You should check your memory chip. Read my "important - sds are you affected" thread. Its stuck at the top of the s3 general section

I just don't understand why you would use ICS when there's JB. and no, of course there will be no more development
Oups... I already upgraded to 10
I haven't yet read the thread but since it appears to work ok, I think it is not affected.
But ...to be sure...let me read it first and I will get back to you.
later edit: is this the recommended thread ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091045
yes
Ok, you just scared me!
I installed the emmc check and it said:
eMMC chip
Type: VTU00M
Date: 05/2012
FwRev: 0xf1
SGS3 Sudden Death ?
YES, Insane chip .....
Then I run the memory test and:
Congratulations. Test passed
623s,
14.7Gb @24.2Mb/s
This means that I got the bad chip.... but the memory isn't yet affected/corrupted so if I apply the kernel fix....I will my memory be ok in the future?
I still have to read it again to fully understand it.
seems like you didn't read the thread
It only seems that way.
I've updated to the latest Cm nightly 10.1-20130511-Nighly-i9300 that should contain the fix being above the recommended CM 10.1 Nightly 20130109 (i9300 AOSP)
Hope it will be ok and thank you very much for the early warning.
