i download z4root.apk click permantly root and i tired wirreles tether and it says me phone isnt rooted..
Z4root doesn't work with optimus v. I used superoneclick to root, it went perfectly. There is a guide in the optimus v development subcategory made by sublimewulf that worked perfectly for me.

I tired it that way to but it kept saying waiting for device...
here are a couple things to check..
1) check to see if your usb drivers are installed and are working correctly
2) make sure usb debugging is enabled (settings -> applications -> development)
and one last thing, which you may already practice on a regular basis..
be sure to read through the guides thorougly (multiple times if necessary) to make sure you're not missing any steps
I did but it still said waiting for device.... I've tried it multiple time..

I have what may seem like an easy problem but 4 hours later I'mboiling. I rooted my phone and deleted and uninstalled some stuff I shouldn't have so I want to use odin. I went ahead and tried it while the phone was on since it read but got succeeded 0/fail 1
ps. In device manager when the phone is on the driver is fine but when in dl mode it's unknown and has a yellow triangle sign with an exclamation.

Uninstall the drivers
Download them again and make sure it says sanding mobile phone drivers
Download the latest version of odin 1.7 I think
Should work!

Don't mean to be an ass but could you tell me where to get the driver? I can only find the ones I have...thanx
This should be in the Q & A but here;
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/11/how-to-root-your-android-phone-superoneclick-method/
Uninstall any drivers/ or Kies you installed first 1 > Then,go to this link it has a video the drivers and the rooting app all in one place The video is excellent very visual on every step. This should provide all you need to resolve this problem
Next time remember to put Questions in the Q & A
You can try using the 64 bit driver, the zipped file if you can find it. Unzip it, don't install if, but from your windows device manager, manually install the driver for the unrecognized device and point it at the 64 bit folder you just unzipped. This does work on 32 bit systems, hope it helps.

Im out of options? Is there any other way to get your phone back to when it was shipped?
here is the reason why I need to flash:::
I got titanium and uninstalled some programs 37 to be exact. I'm getting all kinds of errors::android.process acore among others. So I did a factory restore to no avail. I still have superuser permission and I installed titanium pro. I can't reinstall these programs through batch and I backed up before I deleted them, and I can see them with a line drawn thru them. These are the programs I uninstalled-Help would be great

Try some of the suggestions in the above response. Also try different USB port (not through usb hub). In addition, many of these phones are not recognized in Odin with the "SGH-t959_Vibrant_USB_Drivers". Odin tend to be more successful with the Samsung Mobile driver which came with Mini Kies. GL

hey guys I went ahead and flashed with nero using rom manager I was getting worried! problem was someone steered me the wrong way (which is still my fault I shoulda done my research before i deleted things) so thanx guys for all ur input
Hey!
I searched as much as I could, but to my best effort under this bad connection I'm using right now (I'm in the Tahrir Protests in Egypt right now!), I couldn't find anything.
When I used my Milestone, there was an app called Universal AndRoot. It was an apk file that you installed normally, then you could just gain and lose temporary root by clicking it on and off. Is there such a thing for the S2?
We're here in the protest and I am trying to create a wifi tether for the people here, can't risk rooting the phone right now and bricking it.
Thanks!
Hey it turns out I already have tether! But the question remains Thanks for the help.
I don't know of a way that easy.. but the windows program 'super one click rooting can do it.. assuming you have comparable drivers in your computer, and it can actually read the phone (installing samsung kids will allow a PC go recognize the phone). another option is flashing a kernel or custom rom that is prerooted.. (can be done right from the phone, but can he a. huge pain).. that's all I can think of ATM.. goodluck with whatever you're protesting for.

I'm thinking of rooting my x10mp which runs Android 2.1-update1 (that's what the Firware version shows).
I've come across a few apps for rooting like z4root and easy one click.
Which app is the easiest to use AND safest?.
TIA,
Mike
SuperoneClick is easy to use and it can definitely root our mini with success! After 2.1update-1 z4root stopped working for my mini so i rooted with superoneclick!
And both are safest way!!!!!!!!

jodhaniohm97 is absolutely right. Superoneclick is definitely the way to go. It's fast, simple and doesn't cause any problems.
Agree, Superoneclick is the best

Thanks all for the replies.
After someone wrote a script for our phones so it can install CWM and root our phones using superoneclick, everything was made easy.
why worry about any other s/w to use in the phone. You have all in one rooting technique to do things.
So, verdict? Superoneclick. Go for it bro!
Superoneclick & CWM installer
i dont see any working rooting software other than superoneclick.
I've tried both z4root & superoneclick, and neither successfully rooted my phone.
z4root just stops during the process, while superoneclick hangs after showing "strep 3: something" in the status window.

Thanks for suggesting.
A screenshot of the superoneclick window is:

Nothing happened beyond "Step 3".
TIA.
are you using win7? try running superoneclick as an administrator. also check if usb debugging is on. and when rooting dont mount the sd card.
sorry if i may not be of much help.
This is what finally worked for me:
Windows 7->right click on "superoneclick.exe"->run as admin.
on phone->enable usb debugging, connect phone in "charge phone" mode
click "root" in superoneclick
Thanks all for the inputs.
Ill also try root wit this two app and nothing. Today i will try run superoneclick as admin and hope that will be that!
Superone click root is best and easy for rooting

I have tried to root my phone 3 separate times now over the past 3 months. Each time it never works. I have tried the ragaw root method and some root method that goes through the windows .exe, they just dont work. Ragaw will either 1) Freeze before the root me button appears, 2) not recognize phone 3) will sit there saying "starting adb server...". The other .exe method does absolutely nothing besides tell me that adb is not working, daemeon isnt connected, will connect now. Over and over again. Yes I have updated drivers on my computer, yes I have put my phone back to factory settings, My firmware is 2.13.651.1, and I have USB debugging on. I have spent hours combing through threads seeing absolutely nothing. I don't understand why it isnt working as I rooted my old OG Evo like 5 times, no problems. Can someone please help me before I throw my computer and my phone out of a window.
Check out om4 guide don't panic...all phones root

Did u install adb tools as well? U should make sure your path is set for it properly. Had an issue where adb couldbt see my phone and it was the path.
Try uninstalling everything HTC and all rooting programs including adb toolbox. Make sure u get good downloads and reinstall everything again. It sounds stupid, but if you calm down and just do it I am pretty sure it will root. Believe!
This has been an issue for a lot of people and uninstalling drivers, etc., then deleting them, download & install again solved the problem.
Your phone is rootable. Working on it makes it fun. U learn when u make mistakes, think of it as an opportunity and not a frustrating hassle...
Well... did regaw method at least UNLOCK your bootloader? If so.. why not just fastboot flash a custom recovery (TWRP) and flash a rooted rom? You can flash a stock rooted rom if you're looking to stay pure stock. I think Captain Throwback put one up on the new base and theres one from Haus on the older base.
So im coming from an HTC Vivid which i broke and a friend gave me this photon and i thought id try to unlock it for AT&T but my stupid thing wont even show usb debugging when i enable it its plugged in ive tried re enableing re bootting and different cables atm im using a HTC Cable and still now usb debugging i get the charge and memory but not USB Debugging help me please i just wanna unlock and flash a custom rom later thanks in advance

To start. What software version is your phone on? Is it 2.3.4 or 2.3.5? Also need to know what root and unlock methods (giving us the name of the thread will be sufficient) you are using and where you got the files. You will need to check these as it could mean the difference between success and a not so pleasant failure.
If there is a check mark next to USB Debugging in -Settings > Applications > Development- then your phone is in debugging mode. You will not see any pop-ups or notifications on your computer saying "Hey! You're in debugging mode".
If this helps, most of the root and unlock guides are written in such a way that it requires no thought on the part of the user. Except for maybe misnaming a folder like I did for the Root-Unlock-Relock pack, you simply follow most guides word for word. All you need watch out for is what Moto software are you on, 2.3.4 or 2.3.5.
*The reason why I asked if you were on G+ in your other thread was because live chat is a far faster why to walk someone through rooting and unlocking than posting in a forum.

I don't know about anybody else but I have never had a debugging icon in the status bar on my Photon or the Atrix.
Photon does not have CDMA unlock codes or GSM unlock codes. GSM unlock requires that your Photon be unlocked and flashing the KDDI radio firmware.
GSM unlock=No CDMA service
2.3.5
Cannot downgrade to 2.3.4
Can be rooted via Photon Torpedo
Cannot be unlocked. This means no custom kernels, no CM9/10, no GSM unlock, most custom ROM cannot be used
