I found an old guide on setting up Google voice to work with the gtab but it's out of date and no longer works. Any status on getting Google voice setup on Gtab for phone calls / texts? thanks!

I downloaded the .apk from this post:

Sideload-installed it and it fixed it. It moves the "Skip" button when it goes to pull VM settings and lets you bypass that.
Works fine for SMS now...haven't tried to listen to a VM yet.

Thanks, I tried it but I'd like to be able to make a call/receive a call. Is that possible? Also, how are you sending an SMS from it? I can only see the list of voicemails.
I'm running vegan ginger, and just downloaded it from the market. It works fine but you need a 3rd party application like skype to make calls voip. The but texting and reading voicemails is good

You need to make sure you have a regular Google voice account and a Google voice number. There is a lite version which you can only see voicemails. You can check on the glove voice website

Seems to work ok for me - I picked a sipgate number as "this phone's number" so it skipped offering to capture vm.
VoiceMail playbacks fine, notification of VM works
SMS send works/receive notification works.
Calls... don't work (on device, anyway)
Calls don't work because we don't have a app for calls. Google voice can use skype or another similar app to call, but most aren't free

Hi Guys,
I have updated the device to TnT 2.0, thanks to the develoeprs and XDA forum. However, I am facing an issue in terms of calling over WiFi. Are calls over Skype, Fring or Nimbuzz working? Neither me nor a person whom I am calling can hear over Skype even thought the call connects smoothly in Skype. In Fring I here the jittery noise and no voice communication exchange possible.
Are you guys facing the same issue? Any fix for this ?

Skype is working for sure, with the usual quality. My jawbone just took a sh!t so I can't say for sure that you can hear the party you're calling. But they can hear me, so I'm pretty confident that all is well.
Skype works it just mutes on first dial so you gotta unmute first.
FWIW at least on sipdroid and the built-in speaker, I cannot hear the other party during a call. However, they can hear me. I haven't tried skype yet though.

VOIP calls on G-Tablet with Sipdroid + Google Voice
After weeks of trying different apps to be able to make and receive calls on the G-Tablet I've had success. (Rooted G-Tab running TnT Litev3.1.0, Android 2.2)

Read through it but basically it is:
Get a google voice number and then install google voice app on G-Tablet
When you are in google voice on your computer click on "settings" and then the "phone" tab. Make sure that "Google Chat" has a check mark to the left of it indicating that it is a forwarding option. If it is not listed there, you need to enable Google Chat which you can do in Gmail (it's an option on the left side of your inbox).
Install sipdroid (free in market)
Run sipdroid and click the link at the bottom that says new PBX linked to my google voice
Verify your google voice account email is correct and enter your google voice password. Then enter a pbxes.org password which can be anything you want it to be.
Once you do that, pbxes and sipdroid will auto configure everything else.
To make calls you will need to use a headset plugged into your GTablet in order to hear your caller. My experience is that on the GTablet side I could hear the caller perfectly. They could hear me well, but there was a slight echo where they would hear themselves after they spoke.

I realize this post is a bit old but it was all I could find so I thought I'd try and get an answer anyways...
So I followed the instructions above and it worked great. After, I installed another dialer app (stupid) which didn't work so I uninstalled it. Afterwards, GV no longer worked. I uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck so I uninstalled sipdroid.
After reinstalling that, I no longer had the option to auto config. When I click the button and put in a new PBX name, I get a message stating that the trunk is already in use. I attempted to configure manually but when I put in the user name and password I originally typed it doesn't appear to log into the server and I get a 'Mobile network not available' error.
I can't seem to remove all the previous sipdroid connections and I can't find any folders to delete after uninstalling it. I've cleared data but when reinstalling the app, I am no longer asked for my google voice number and the web site doesn't help much with manual configuration.
I created another google voice account but even after I reinstall GV and configure it using the new number, the SIPDROID still tells me the old VG account name. I assume it pulls it from elsewhere in the system.
So can anyone tell me how to manually configure this thing or how to remove all the previous sipdroid settings so I can start from scratch?

Hey all,
So I installed google voice so I could retrieve my voicemails, and there's no option in the new version that allows you to choose when to use google voice for calls.
So now, all of my outgoing calls are using my GVoice number instead of my cell number. I've tried signing out of GVoice as well as digging through all of the settings and it still remains. It even sends from my GVoice number when I text.
Anybody having this problem?

Nevermind.. Figured it out.
But for anyone wondering, you have to log into your account through the web and disable GVoice on your phone. You'll still get voicemails, but it won't call/text from that number.
So the issue is Google Voice app is now aware of being installed on a Sprint phone. The app will automatically integrate your service with GV is you dont pay attention. You can click "skip" when you first install and then it will convert to the normal install screens we are use to seeing. I totally missed it when I first installed, spent time on the phone with tech support etc. Hope this helps others.
I had the SAME problem and took me about a half hour to figure out what the hell was going on
Me too. I wasn't getting any SMS and I was like "what the [email protected]*K! Spent some time on the phone w/ tech support myself and that's when it dawned on me that I had integrated it w/ my HeroC.
I don't know if thus is the same issue but all my texts are coming through gv instead if the message app. Stock message app and I only use gv for vm. Any suggestions?

Uninstall GV
Go to GV on your computer and unlink your sprint and google number
Install GV
CLICK SKIP ON THE FIRST SCREEN!!!! <== for most people who use GV we dont read this but this is where it asked you to integrate your Sprint and GV number

Okay I somehow fixed my sms issue and now I have another issue. When I get a call or call my self from a seperate phone...on the calling phone, it rings normally. After about 4 rings, my phone, receiving the call, will start to play the ringtone which gives me 2 or so rings to answer. I have no idea what happened

I'm wondering if its possible to receive calls on touchpad? I pay $2 a month for Skype number. I also got the google voice app that's in prepare. But when I call either number it won't go through. Is there anyway to receive calls so maybe I can get rid of cell phone plan?
I've used Skype, so I know it should work. You must be doing something wrong.
u can receive skype calls but i believe if you keep the device off for too long it automatically signs you off of skype..to avoid that i guess open up the messaging app and then make urself "available" after a while.
as far as the "google voice app that is in prepare" not sure what ur are talking about ???? but could you elaborate because i'm looking for a google voice app rather than having the use the google.com/voice website for most of my sms's
im pretty sure he means google talk, not google voice. in gingerbread, with the right apk or phone, you can make video calls with google talk.

Download the webos quick install and press the globe icon on the right. Once that loads just seach google voice and its there. Its nothing great, defiantly wish there was something better but its better than nothing.
Regarding skype....i cant recieve calls on it. I can call out fine but when i try to have someone else call me from their cell phone it wont happen.
hmm havent had anyone call me from their phones just a skype to skype call so not sure if that would make any difference.
and gonna check out that google voice app right now

I did not see an app called google voice. I did find an app called P2Google Voice in the HP App Catalog, but I had no luck in making phone calls (it seems to be for the handset only).
If there was a Google Chat plug-in for webOS browser then we could make/receive calls in the touchpad. Or if there was a app to setup a sip account the touchpad one could make/receive calls.
P2GoogleVoice has been discontinued, so it won't work at all.
The only current app in the catalog is GV Text, which I have heard does not work either.
So, our only hope may be Linphone, which was being worked out by webosinternals:

free skype
just got a Skype # today (use the discounts) and added it to my GV forwarding #s...works great. I emailed Skype customer service and they confirmed that no calling credit is used for incoming calls to your Skype #...so I assume no credit is needed if you use as callback to call out. Now all we need is a half decent GV app for the touchpad....even a modified browser may work...anyone?
I'm running Peetr's Hybrid rom and noticed that It doesn't have a built in voicemail handling app. So if someone leaves me a voicemail I just get a really wierd text message instead. I was using PF voicemail for call forwarding and voicemail since I was having major service coverage issues and that will tell you missed calls no matter what. But I don't want to use that anymore since it's slow and I'm having problems with it. So my question is. What do I use for voicemail? Is there anything similar to that visual voicemail app that originally came with my phone? Free would be great but if it works I would shell out a couple bucks.
I'm wondering the same thing. I'm using the AOKP JB Rom (thx 3bill) and get multiple text messages for each voicemail. Personally, I loved the visual voicemail that came stock and I'm hoping there's a way to port it in. You can still check your voicemail though just by dialing yourself. BTW, how do you like that Rom as I haven't tried it yet but am loving the AOKP one?
Well this rom is about as good as it gets for me since I have a locked bootloader. But it is very nice compared to stock. I'm using Google voice right now for voice mail and it works pretty good so far. I just wish my texts didn't show up in it at all.

I use Google Voice. It's very configurable. When a voicemail comes in it can notify you by text, e-mail, etc. plus the standard functions you had with visual voicemail that came with the phone. The key is to go into Google Voice web site settings and prevent it from prescreening your calls and handling your texts.

Yep. I just found that out today. I was wondering why the hell it kept asking me to press numbers to answer my calls.

You can turn that off in settings. Not on the app, but on the website. It refers to feature as 'call screening'.
I just upgraded from my Samsung Captivate which was running CM10 to the HTC One. One of the things I loved about the old phone was that all my voicemails would show up in my call log and I could play them from there. When I tried setting up GV on the new phone, I got a bunch of error messages and somehow the phone removed my old call forwarding rules and then couldn't reapply them. So I logged out of the Google Voice app and tried again. No dice. Finally, I went back and did it the old fashioned way by manually typing in the MMI code and managed to get the calls forwarded again to GV. When I went to the dialer app to manually switch the voicemail provider to GV, I again get the error messages and when it asks to still switch to the new provider I click OK. However, it kicks out another error message and then shows that nothing has changed and still lists AT&T as the default voicemail provider. So, has anyone managed to get this working properly or have AT&T and HTC once again colluded to completely bork functionality that works oh so well on stock Android?
Just got a response to my support request from HTC. Laughably, they claim they "cannot guarantee full functionality with Play Store applications." That is pretty pathetic. In their quest to differentiate, they eliminated one of the best features of Android in my mind. I hated dialing numbers and using the dialpad to access and control voicemail years ago. When Google made Google Voice available on Android, it was one of the factors that made me choose it over the iPhone. Then they made it even better than visual VM on iOS by integrating it into the dialer. This dialer from HTC is a huge step in the wrong direction. I don't need all this FB and Twitter integration crap. Just let me access my VM in the best possible way.
I have it working but I never got it to work using the Google voice app configuration.
It was still working when I swapped my son card to the HTC one from my gs3.
I had to go into the phone app and change the forwarding numbers manually. Also the voice mail number.
If that doesn't work I think you can contact at&t and they can fix it for you.
Wait...you have your Google voice voicemails showing up in the dialer app so that you can click play and listen to them without going into the GV app? I did manage to get the forwarding set up, but I want the voicemails to show in the dialer like they did on CM10.

Same issue, voicemail set up, but I can not get the call log to show voicemails. Tried unchecking voicemail display as indicated in other forums, but doesn't work either way.
Bump...no dialer integration or notifications is a big problem for me as well.
Instead of making a new thread I will just bump this one. Did anyone managed to get they HTC One to integrate Google Voice visual voicemail into the dialer? I searched everywhere but couldn't find any info on that.
Maybe there are any 3rd party modifications that can fix this issue?
p.s Just to clear things for someone who reads between the lines my GV Voicemail is working fine, what I am trying to figure out is how to integrate it into dialer and get visual voicemail from there.

No luck. I stopped trying. I may give it another go.
Just installed ARHD Google edition Rom and visual google voice voicemail works great in there, but I prefer Sense based Rom so will go back to it. Shame visual voicemail doesn't work on it, seems like HTC broke the compatibility.
If anyone knows a solution that would be great!
