[Q] How to get into the test menu on my X10 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Obviously I've scearched the site and found
From key lock screen, press "menu > back > back > menu > back > menu > menu > back"
which does nothing what so ever
and
*#*#4636#*#*
Which gets me into a nice menu with some usefull info but nothing that will allow me to test the different parts of the phone.
The reason I need this is to test my screen, it will sometimes not react when I touch the borders of the screen, some other times, like when writing messages, it will show the letter "a" in big, but it will not actually be added to my message.
Is this a common problem, the message system (It does the same on internet browser) or is it just my phone.
And how do I get into the menu from lockscreen?
I got rooted stock .435 with .54bb
Tks for an excellent site

It's home back back home back home home back

Thanks a lot!
Smal but significant difference between home and menu buttons...
;-)
Anyone has similar issues with the letters not performing properly? The touchscreen seems to be working properly, I whited almost all the screen.
Is it a common .435 problem?

Yes, it is! But the combination you had at the begining is for Donut 1.6. For 2.1 is with home button.
For the typing, I recomend to use another keyboard since stock have this problem with the side letters.

is there any chance, to get into this menu with a 2.2 custom rom ?

Touch dead spot.

Hey guys, it seems my x10 has a dead spot in its touchscreen. It just doesn't recognize when touched in the right top corner. It is actually exactly between the middle and the extreme right of the phone. When playing chess for example, there is a piece I can't select, tried everything without success. Is this happening only to me or not?
No it is happening to me too. Right where the magnifying glass is on the market app. Top right hand corner...

Same here, I tougth that's just mine...dead on search button in market.
No, the search in the market is fine for me, it is exactly another square by its left, and even after pressing hard or for long tries I get it to work, it just doesn'r respond.
I'm having the same problem, exactly on market search button.Started happening after 2.1 update....
ON lyk screen press
menu back back menu back menu menu back
if u using 2.1 den press home button inplace of menu
chek in service tests/touch screen
spot by yewrself whea ur self phone has dead touchh
Yes, I know this test, but it doesn't do it justice, it draws in the spot when you touch right before the dead part to just after it
when in market, i have to press search at least twice for it to function
I'm having a similar problem.
The top row of QWERTYUIOP doesn't work on the default android keyboard, but it works absolutely fine if I select Korean!
On the home screen the section is also dead & I can't use apps that occupy that space, so I have to go down to the drawer and select it from there. But if I want to use that spot to scroll between my homescreens, I can drag perfectly fine, or drag shortcuts there perfectly fine. On the keyboard if I drag I can highlight the nonworking keys, but I can't use them.
It is especially irritating on dialog boxes though.
I went into PC companion & I did a repair install of 2.1 (AT&T grr) and it didn't fix anything, just now I'm inconvenienced in that now I need to restore all my apps.

I've sent mine to the warranty, and they gave me a new one working. The new x10 had a dead pixel, then I sent it to the warranty again, but after a year (on the last warranty day), so they would not have any x10s left, and it worked, they gave me an Arc

Home Screen Button Problem

Alright so I just got a Samsung Fascinate through a trade here on XDA and everything seemed to be in working order...except for the actual software in the phone. For one, the home button doesn't take me home, it simply takes me to a blank screen. I can pull down the notification bar and everything...but I can't get home to actually access and apps or anything. The only way I can access anything is when I hold down the home button to get most recent apps.
I've tried multiple times to hard reset..battery pulls..everything. Someone please help me out. I contacted the previous owner of the phone and he said you just have to press the home button a little harder...that didn't work.
It obviously works because it takes me to a blank screen and allows me to access the most recent apps..but it won't actually take me home.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys
Considering the Hines button is capacitive, pushing harder does nothing.
Is the phone rooted or stock?
If stock, try to Odin fresh stock. If rooted, try a different rom
Try installing a different launcher such as Adw, launcher pro or zeam to see if the problem goes away.
Now it does have a crack, but I don't think thats the problem because when I press it it still takes me to a blank screen so it must work.
And he gave me those options..and said it was semi-rooted? Considering I just came fresh from a Moto Droid I really know nothing about the process. Is Odin like SBF? I just want to have the phone in its original state to see if I even like it first..

I would second this suggestion. Often, launchers can have individual settings for what the home button does (i.e., with Go Launcher EX, the home button can be set to take you to your home screen, and if already on your home screen, pressing the home button will open up a shortcut, app, preview homescreens, etc.). So, by installing another launcher, it my clear away whatever setting is on the phone you got (i.e., launching a blank screen). Another option would be to go into your Setting > Manage Applications, and find your default launcher. Open it, and then "Clear Defaults."
Alright I got it to work by restoring completely with odin and changing the home screen launcher.
Thanks guys! It's much appreciated

[Q] Home-button action

HI all
Yesterday I've installed MiniCM7 Pro latest version. It worked, but I've ran into a problem which I can't find the right setting for.
I've caused this problem myself. When I click on my home-button, a pop-up appeared on my screen asking which action it should take for the home-button. I had 2 choices: SE home screen, and menu-list.
I ticked the checkbox "always take this action" and selected the SE-option. It should've been the menu-list though. Whenever I quit an application with the home-button now, it goes directly to my home screen (which I find very annoying).
Where is the setting located to adjust this?

go to settings>applications>installed applications>all applications and tap on your SE Homescreen and then Clear defaults. this will solve your problem
Thank you so much, that did the trick indeed! Couldn't find it trough all these topics here on XDA.

[Q] Gmail App - No "Settings" button?

Hello All,
I upgraded the GMail app on my One to the latest version and I noticed that there is no longer a 'Settings' button on the menu bar. On other phones (i.e Samsung S3 or S4) you could press the Menu soft button on the phone and click SETTINGS but the One doesn't have the soft key for Menu. I've attached an image of what I'm referring to. I know this it the old version, but just used it for reference.
Any idea how to get to Settings in the Gmail app now?

Yup. I'm having this dilemma too. Either I am stupid, of a very stupid design by google.

So turns out this isn't really Google's fault, it's HTC's. Somehow HTC decided to design this wonderful phone but not include a Menu button. I don't know how this got by designers and approved by HTC but it's a negative for The One, IMO. Don't get me wrong I love the phone, but this is plain silly.
So, in order to get your 'Settings' back (and any other 'menu' function) in the gmail app, you need to install a ROM that has an option to modify one of the soft keys to for 'Long Press = Menu". I personally am using CleanRom. This let's me use a long press on the 'Home' button to activate the Menu options. This will work with any other app on the phone also.

Back Button Does Not Function

For some reason, my back button has stopped working. Regardless of which button I press, I get the application task list. I can not figure out how to fix this. I have rebooted a number of times and it still does this.
Same thing here! I already contacted Samsung and Sprint, they don't know how to fix it! Take it to the store to get a replacement !
Same Thing here
Everything was working as expected and the two buttons (Back and running apps) stopped working, i made a factory rest and it did not help, I am suspecting the cover that have magnets in it and I removed it, shut down the phone for few minutes but it did not help, I will try extending the time it is shut down and see the results.

Guys, you can try to pass to Simple mode, and then try if both work, if yes, come back to normal Mode.
Leaving the mobile without my cheap cover that have many magnet resolved the issue and both buttons worked again. Please check if you have a cover that is not supported which is probably the reason for these issues.
I have a similar issue with the note pro using a cheap cover which causes issues pushing the pro to standby while being used.
I can not be sure that the cover is the reason for that, however this resolved the issues for me at least for now. I will try to reproduce it again and check,
Left the Phone with the cover on and same problem pops up again, and when I took the phone from the cover the buttons started working again but after few minutes, the buttons goes bad again (without the cover) so the issue is not the cover. Too bad and don't know what to do except to send it for repair.
Here is a "solution" that has worked for me. My S6 is the Verizon variant, but I think these steps will work on any Service Provider.
Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity and interaction > Assistant menu
From here, toggle the switch to "ON". This will create a hovering circle with a window with four panes inside it. If you interactive with the hovering circle it will open a new window in which you have access to the back and recent apps buttons via an onscreen button.
Not sure what has disabled the hardware buttons, but this should give you access via onscreen software.
I know it's not a true fix, but a work around.
If someone finds a true fix, please post it! But in the meantime ...
I hope this helps!
Found a Solution for me
My back button stopped to work. After trying many different things.
I plugged my earphoneson in..... and surprisingly . Came back to life.
BAck Button & Open Applications Button Not Working on Samsung Glaxy S7 Edge
Hi
i bought Samsung Glaxy S7 Edge just few days ago, up to yesterday everything was fine, but suddenly back button & Multi folder/Application button stopped lightingup and working.
i have tried all the things i knew, rest, factory reset , cache wipe, factory wipe but nothing is working with me.
i cant take it back to the shop where it was bought from because it was in other country.
Any body else having same issue ? or any suggestion ??
BR
On my Galaxy S6 Edge that if you press the back button with your finger covering the whole button, the recent apps thing comes up. Buuut if you press the right side of the button (but don't cover the whole button) then the back button works.....I dunno why. I have to use the Accessability thingy like some iPhones have though for the most part...if anybody finds a better solution then please reply!!!!!
Here is a tip: if you have problems with a hardware button, try using the application "all in one gestures"to change the functionality of some of the buttons. Some features require root, but most just require accessibility
Root yours and enable onscreen navbar.

Thanks for the temporary fix..
But has anyone got a permanent fix? Having issues with unusable back and recent buttons on my s7.
Buttons were pressed unknowingly whilst in camera mode, perhaps holding down recents button which brings up split screen..looked abit odd when i picked it up!
Very frustrating that there is no fix!
My issue solved by initiating this update.
