Q: fully wipe phone - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, my question is how can I fully wipe my phone. I want to erase everything on it including the root I have on it and gingerblur. I want to start out as if I just received it from att and want to reroot it myself then update. Thanks guys

Someone correct me if I'm wrong because I've never actually done it but flashing back to SBF should take you back to stock.

I thought I may have to do that along with a factory reset/wipe. Just wanted to confirm, thanks!

[SOLVED]SBF or Update.zip[SOLVED]

Hey, I was wondering if I wanted to flash a new ROM, would I have to SBF, or could I just flash the new one with out doing anything, or could I flash P3Droid's GB update.zip?
Also another noob question, when doing System Recovery, do I have to press Install Recovery every time, or just once?
Thanks for you help!
just wipe data, cashe, and devlic and im fairly sure you can flash whatever you want. anything thats on gingerbread. eclipse 0.7 official is gunna be out real soon, the test version is the best so far in my opinion.
Thanks! Wanted to try it out, right now im trying the Window 7 ROM!

I think the rule is if its based on the same version of android, you can just wipe the data, etc., as mentioned above. If you want to go a step further just to be safe, you can do a factory reset which could get rid of some stuff left over from other roms and start you over from scratch. Note that factory reset will remove all your settings and apps which you will have to restore afterwards. Titanium backup does a real good job of putting everything back to how it was though.
Thanks. I started to just flash over and make nandroids to be able to "dual boot" different ROMs haha

[Q] Factory Reset after cwm&root?

hey guys im really scared so i wanted to ask and see if anyone knows for sure but i flashed codeworks kernal for cwm and then rooted with superoneclick and was wondering would i brick my phone if i do a factory reset from phone options or will it work as normal or what will happen if i do that? plz some1 help me thx
A factory reset where? In ClockWork Mod recovery? If you for it there it will not harm your phone, but it will wipe all the apps you installed and reset your settings. You will not lose the contents of your internal SD memory, and you will not lose root. It does not actually revert to stock, its just like you freshly installed the ROM again.
Edit: Nevermind, I see you said phone settings. I would assume you get the same behavior as I desribed, but I've never tried it so I don't know for sure.

Correct. it will refresh you to the rom you have installed. I just recently posted a link to another forum on how to get back to the stock rom if you want to.
ok well i will give it a shot and see what happens im crossing my fingers but i will let u know thx
edit: wait i forgot to ask this also my phone is unlocked with helroz app will i lose the unlock? do i have to do it again? if everything resets to normal?

Assuming you're talking about SIM Unlock, then you will retain it. Even completely reverting back to stock still retains a sim unlock state, which is a good thing. =)
But I want it...
OK, I am using my rooted - CWM CM7 I777 phone - AT&T has just agreed to up me to the skyrocket because I am still in my 30 day grace period. I need to get this phone back to absolute day one no monkey business stock..
How?
Skyrocket is not an upgrade. You'll be limiting your choices severely from a development standpoint.
As to your request. There already is a write up by creepyncrawly in the general section that details every step. And yes you can go from cyanogenmod straight to stock with no issues.

That's easiest to do. That's what I've been doing.
k so ive sbf'ed unlocked and got cwm recovery on me mopho so now i flash in recovery a custom rom do i need to factory reset wipe all user data wipe cache or dalvick cache? and not sure how doing it this way i get root back can anyone enlighten me.
whatever custom rom you flash will be already rooted. only the sprint sbf files will require a reroot

Unless otherwise stated its always safest to wipe data, cache, and dalvik.
You can ask joker about that, he's really quick to reply. If I had to guess though, id say both roms are using the same build.prop file, or you may have mistakenly reflashed skinny. Glad I could help.

Newbie question

So last night I unlocked bootloader and rooted. Before I continue to flashing roms I would like to learn how to go back to stock. I also yesterday removed bloat, if I did a factory reset would that be safe.

Have you installed a recovery? That would be the next step from here. A factory reset should be safe, yes.

here's a tutorial on how to do it, but keep in mind that it's a factory restore. You'll lose root and other important info, you'll be back on the factory settings.

Won't really lose important info unless you need to data wipe to stop a boot loop
Sbf itself doesn't wipe data...just puts the system back to stock factory condition....
Most of time you will need to wipe data after sbf tho which of course wipes ya clean.....remember ....front to back (couldn't resist lol)

You know, I probably should've asked the op if he was able to get into the regular recovery and just doing a data wipe worked before doing a SBF.
I completely forgot to mention that.

Always had to sbf AND data wipe to get back

The worst I've had happen to me is getting stuck in a bootloop. I seriously freaked out and thought I seriously damaged my phone!! I just did a data wipe and all was good.
On a side note, the DX2 is actually my first smartphone. I originally got it out of desperation due to losing my old phone. And I always liked the look of the DX. The phone I had before was a LG enV2 on its last legs. LOL

I'm wondering the same thing. I tried installing cyanogen 7, and it booted and worked fine at first, but when I rebooted, it won't get past the cyanogen 7 boot animation. I don't know what to do?
