Okay so I downloaded Tango Video chat from the Android Market. I am running the Frx06 full package from the first posts in the Android developement thread. I tried to make a call on it and it acted like it was going to go through but when the other person answered (on an EVO), there was no sound or video. What is the problem? Has android just not advanced far enough on the Rhodium for that to happen yet? Is there any way to trick the app into thinking you have a front facing camera or does that even matter? I'd like to be able to video chat in Android on my Rhodium. Is that possible?
Assuming you have a RHOD400 you don't have a front-facing cam... so what would be the point exactly? Am I missing something?
You can use the rear cam w/ Tango, I've done it before (and the other person had an EVO too, it's just that the EVO can choose what cam they want to be seen by you, front or rear)

I do have a Rhod400. Sorry for not mentioning that before. I was able to make it work and display the video but I believe that due to the sound not working in the video camera, the sound does not work when I switch to video when using Tango. But the other person (this time on a MyTouch 4g) was able to see what my camera was doing and I was able to see them. There is no sound still though so I guess I will be waiting for the kernel that enables that.

Were you able to have sound while showing video?
thanks.
Video with sound hasn't been implemented yet for our phones. That's why you can't get it working.

Eh, not entirely true.
I've seen several people say sound on video recording works - I don't think anyone has taken a serious look at those that don't. I haven't even tried it, lol.
Seems either certain types of RHODs it works on, or perhaps there's some other combination of software installed on the phone. Again, I don't think anyone has really investigated why some phones work and some don't.

Yes, but it was pretty laggy. Maybe its because I pressed speaker, then pressed video?

Well a brave member on hofo has taken apart his 8525 and found something interesting. it look like the connector and tray for the vga video confrencing cam is all there. anyone want to take his 8525 apart, find the vga cam for front, and enable the video cam via the cab and see if this really works. link is here:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1113356
pics on thread. maybe we can now be like our tytn brothers and have video confrencing too!
Very interesting, and I noticed this too while I was taking chipset pics for the GPS project. I didn't mention it here because I had no idea how in the world we could get those parts. I think your only hope would be to buy a bricked TyTN that had the front cam.
i cant find anything on ebay or cnn.cn but maybe someone knows where to get this or it will show up somewhere soon and we can try this out. we need more people to come in here and see if anyone has one of these available so we can try this. maybe a member with a 8525 has a bricked tytn also and is willing to take it apart and get the cam so we can see if this is possible. lets not give up bc it would be a great addition.
Cingular Does not support video calling and these phones are not compatible with Tmo USA 3g Network. so this is a waste of time.
Actually, cingular is ready to deploy this feature, ive seen it in action and tested it out.
Cingulars service is called VCS video call sharing, its a crippled for of Video calling and will not support phones without specific VCS support.
and we are in the process of fixing this win the wm6 cooking.
Technically speaking if there was a 3rd party app that used the 3g connection to stream a vid via direct connect to another phone vid calling should be possible. But yea cingulars version of Vid callign coming soon is really a bootled version of what the network is capable of doing. Currently Vid calling test phase was sucessfull with cingular from sandiego to newyork. SO the network obviously supports it . And also there is a feature via opus/care that allows the new vid calling feature up aswell. So we must all wait and see. I would like to see when 2 tytns are trying to make a vid call with cingular sims. I wonder what would be the end result.

i have a tytn on cingular and would be willing to give it shot with another tytn owner.... we would have to get VCS enabled on the account though...
Yea thats a plus for u because i have a 85 which no frnt camera. It shld work theoritically.I mean i just dont know the limitations of how it works with the cooked os. I mean, if not im surprised there isnt a 3rd party app that would stream the existing camera through a app. The connection shouldnt matter through a 3rd party app because it can use the data portion as a program streams files over the net. A video call directly from the network would def require the feature to be added . Currently they blocked acesses to employeess to add these features on a company account but it is enabled to be chosen for a customers account. They already preloaded it into the system. I guess its all trial and error. There launching a LG first with the more primitve vid sharing which is suppose to be the hot thing for summer . But unfortunelty this doesnt mean 30 fps live session. Its limited into increments. I have no idea why they did this. It certinly makes us look retarted compared to what the network is capable of doing. I guess we just all have to expirement and see.

well i actually have a TyTn and an 8525 but would be willing to throw it on my account anyway(if its not to expensive, maybe a PPU) just in case i encounter anyone to try it with, would be interesting to see if it would even interact with the LG... also i need to note that the tytn does use a different dpadmenu.dll in order for video calling... and it also uses a different dpadmenu.dll for PTT... so far i have failed at trying to make them coexist.. but working on it
I've used video calling on an 8525 with one of the WM6 ROM's on Vodafone's network in NZ. Unfortunately with no front camera you can see the other party but they can't see you. I haven't found a way of switching the video calling software to use the 8525's back camera so at least the other party can see stuff from there.

ok seriously however... if you did plug a camera into the board, it could thoretically work if you then added on support within the ROM... no idea if the call would be permitted by Cingular... best tested overseas

i wouldnt mind the video calling.. great for live interactive pr0n but would be bad if i had to look at your face ... the cingular roms do support the front cam... but it requires a different dpadmenu.dll and dialer.... and i dont suggest anyone hack up their 8525 until 2 people with TyTn's can test it on cingular network..
I traded my Cingular 8525 in for the Softbank version (and love the new phone) - but do not know how to use the Front Facing cam (or at least what apps can use it). Is there something I need to do to utilize it in apps (Messenger, Skype, etc).
Also, Does Cingular disable the Internet Calling?
I am game for trying the cam test on Cingular.
I have done the complete housing with a full tutorial and pics inculded in the link below. The front camera I installed came from a TYTN.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1152710&page=1&pp=15
Now I have used the trial version of coolcamera from ateksoftDOTcom which does enable the fron camera. Theres still some glitches that the developer has to work out. The quality on the camera is quite nice actually. I'm not too concerned about video calling but would rather have the capability of using it to record simple video or taken snap shot pics. Some1 mention flashing the rom to enable this feature which is exactly what I was looking to do. So lets get together and make this happen ya'll.
Where to get camera?
This project seems like a longshot but really interests me. Obstacles:
-I would need a front camera
-I'm on an unlocked Cingular 8525 in the US on T-Mobile
-They don't support video calling
-EDGE is fastest they support, no 3G or UMTS
-I may need a new case to fit this camera
Maybe I could just dremmel (or drill?) a little hole so the camera could see out. But what is this camera piece? There must be an easier way to aquire this then getting an entire spare phone to take it out of.
I have noticed that when I record video with the Thunderbolt that the picture quality is out of this world but the sound quality is terrible at best. I can barely hear my TV playing just 6 or 7 feet away from me. Anyone else have this problem?
I am running Infected ROM but have had this problem since it came out of the box.
Also, I was wondering, if I called VErizon support on this, could they tell that I had my phone rooted just by being on the phone with them?
This issue has been discussed on xda as well as a few other forums (htcs own community as well). I havent found an explanation or anything that fixes it unfortunately. I'm kinda upset about this since I'm constantly taking videos on my phone.

They don't know you're rooted. I exchanged my Moto droid 4 times, it was rooted each time. I often called them and they would just send me another. The buttons kept going bad on my phones. Bad luck I guess.
It uses the mic at the bottom of the phone (same one for phone calls) so make sure you're not covering that up. And it seems that unless whatever you're recording is close, you'll have issues. There was a post somewhere from someone who contacted HTC and was told it was due to the noise cancelling software
Well at least if its software related maybe it can be fixed in the first update. It's a shame to have such great video quality with such horrendous sound.

I have a Galaxy S2 (ATT) and I want to use a USB Inspection Camera with it. The inspection camera is basically a USB webcam at the end of a long USB cable. It has LED lights and is usually waterproofed.
So my plan is to use the Android phone with the USB Inspection camera with OTG. Can this be done?
I've tried to search OTG and webcam, but I just get "using your android phone as a webcam". But I want to use a USB webcam with my android phone.
After some searching, I found that if the snake cam (inspection cam) is a UVC-compliant webcam then it should be detectable by android. Waiting on an answer from the seller.
USB Inspection Camera using OTG
Hi,
Did you get any success on it , even i am also looking for such kind of camera.
Not yet, everyone I ask that sells these inspection camera's (mostly chinese companies on ebay) haven't answered me whether the camera's are uvc-compliant. So I haven't taken the plunge on buying one.
Android + USB on the go & UVC compliant camera...
Hey!
More then interested in this too...
Got an external drive working with Samsung GSII, but would surely be great if it is possible to connect a 'bullet-type' camera to it & use it for filming outdoor activities, saving it to the SGSII & upload them to Youtube afterwards...
[Offcourse buying a complete GoPro of Drift camera & putting the SDcard afterwards in the SGS would work too...]
I think those types of cameras have built in memory. So when you connect it to your computer it reads it as a camera/mass storage device. I don't think you'll have a problem.
I am looking for something different. I want a webcam (on a long usb cable) to display an image on my phone in real time.
This small, easy-to-use USB digital microscope/magnifier and camera/video camera has a host of uses besides inspecting or photographing ICs or sections of circuit boards. It offers magnification from 5X to 200X at distances up to 300mm from the subject. Functions include snapshots, video recording, time-lapse video recording, measurement and calibration. The unit comes with application software, a user manual, stand, two transparent covers and a calibration ruler. A display size of at least 17 inches is recommended for use with this device.

I got an inspection camera last week and I got to work on a rooted nexus 7, no custom ROM, kernal etc. but no video record yet only images. USB OTG and an app called SnapExWebCam. I know its an old thread, but I found it when I was first looking on how to do this so I didnt have to have my laptop under the car checking a starter/flywheel issue.
hashish16: should work for that too, but it all depends on device etc. just know how it worked for me. More info on the play store page for that app too.

Hey thanks for the reply, I'm glad you found a solution. I needed it for work on my car and some HVAC work too. I got rid of that car, so I didn't need the inspection cam. But it is great to know for future reference. I actually now have the 2013 Nexus 7 so hopefully it'll work.
BTW, which inspection cam did you buy?

Yeah its been working. Dev not updated yet for video etc. but I can take snapshots and see live video. I forgot Ill put some pics up later today. Only thing I can think are your camera your using or you don't have V4L (Video for Linux, I think it means) enabled in your ROM/Kernel. Are you using stock or a custom ROM and or kernel? I want to flash a custom ROM or Kernel so I can overclock a little bit but have been unable to confirm if any of them have or don't have V4L enabled. Stock and just rooted mine works now.

I ended up with a camera that is not UVC-compliant. Is it possible to install device drivers in Android?
Well i have Yahoo Messenger and the Plug in installed, it's allowing me to make video calls, however it only shows black screen. wonder why..
is it bec. im using 2.2 only? should i update to 2.3? or should i root my phone?.. i really don't know what to do.
read something about verizon disabled the front camera or something but i dont know if thats even the issue, since even my back camera aint working, and i can't even see the other person as well who's using a laptop.
Hehehe.. hope someone can answer my question..
i will try to update to 2.3, and rooted it, even i'm not really sure the advantage of being rooted..
There is no front camera on the Fascinate. The two things on the front are a light and proximity sensor.
Don't know the answer to your question, but I wonder if the program is only set to use a front camera?
Hi,
I am curious to know if anyone else has experienced this issue or if I have been very unlucky to get the same issue on two different phones!
The issue is; when recording video or recording just sound in any sound recorder app, the playback come out very poorly and inconsistent. The sounds wavers in volume and quality, frankly, it's not much use.
To be clear, this is only when playing back recordings made by the user. Audio playback for websites and MP3 is perfectly fine.
I can only find one mention of this when Googling and that was on this forum here https://forum.xda-developers.com/swift-2/help/record-sound-swift-2-t3632541.
This sounds very much like the issue but there was no further mention of it.
Having already returned two, I'm not prepared to go through the stress of dealing with their awful customer service again (had to fall on my sword to Amazon to get the last one replaced only to find it had the same issue).
Given that there are 2,250 reviews for this device on amazon, I would really like to know if anyone else has noticed this? I am assuming, if it IS a firmware fault, then it will be fixed in further updates but it's incredibly annoying as I have what is otherwise a pretty good phone!
I don't use the video function THAT much but I would like the option to do it with decent sound if ever required!
Any feedback on this would be very much appreciated.
(I have previously factory reset the phone and tried the secondary audio codec in the video settings but neither made any difference).
I tried to record some sound yesterday and it came out awfully. Annoying indeed. (oh and my phone was factory reset since upgrading to Nougat)
Now I've never even tried to do this until today (and I've had the phone since spring) so it's not very important to me - but I'll mention it to Wileyfox on a forum where I know they're listening in.

Thanks, that would be great. Good to know I'm not the only one! I sent it back to Wileyfox explicitly detailing the fault but all they did was keep it for three weeks and perform a factory reset. Very disappointing. Hopefully, this will be addressed in a future update.

Was your issue also related to noisy circumstances? That would be a valuable information for Wileyfox.
