4G connection problems - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, I just got my thunderbolt from verizon yesterday and I'm very happy with it, I did notice that my 4G connection turns off and on though, especially when I use the hotspot. I also have very good connection when I am on 4G. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there is a fix for it. Thanks a lot in advance!
PS,
I also searched the forum and couldn't find a topic on this, so if this is a repost I apologize.

Yup will also go unresponsive sometimes.

Yeah this happens to me once in awhile, luckily for not too long of periods of time. My guess is it has to deal with big red? Just FYI, so you don't feel like such an ass when this happens to you. Don't get frustrated with your phone if you're getting 1X with your battery cover off, that has the phones antenna in it

Had to exchange.......

I'm a lil upset. Phone has been amazing. I just got got to work today and they had to exchange it. Anyone had the reboot loop?
New one is having internet issues already. Not getting connection. Constant reloading 4g.

Check the stickies above. There's an answer to bootlooping in there, you might have been able to avoid your exchange.
Is LTE turned on in your mobile network settings? I had 4g connection problems before where it was getting turned off. The app LTE on/off from the Market helped with that. You can make sure it's turned on there as well as setting it for LTE/voice only if you like.
Also, I had a problem with no 4g and noticed I hadn't clicked in one of the cover's corners tight enough, the one in the upper right if you're facing the screen, closest to the lens if you're looking at the back cover. That's the corner that has the LTE antenna inside.
cmon man, stickies are up there for a reason; it's why i asked to get that thread stickied!!
Sorry . Been using the xda app and stickies are a different click.

[Q] Wi-fi emulator

Is there some sort of wi-fi emulator out there? Amazon app of the day won't let me download some of the apps, but 4G is twice as fast as my wi-fi connection at home.
Hello, and welcome to XDA
I would love to help answer your question, however your post is somewhat ambiguous.
If you could, please indicate in more detail what the particular problem is.
I am going to take a leap here and assume that your problem is that wireless tether sets up an ad-hoc network instead of a regular wifi network.
however if this is not the case, then please let me know. I will do the best I can to help you.
Hmm I was wondering the same thing. His problem isn't anything to do with teather. It's that Amazon will have free apps that say they require a WiFi connection on phone to download do to there size.
If your in an area where you can't connect to a WiFi network Amazon will not let you download. Even if your on 4g for some reason the server will only allow a WiFi connected phone to download which really sucks.
So he wants to be on his 4g connection but fool Amazon's server into thinking he is connected via WiFi

I was annoyed at the same thing. If someone finds a solution, I'd be interested in hearing it.

To the op.. this is what your post should have looked like
Is this using the Amazon market place? If so.. can u just visit the regular site and skip the app for those particular apps.

Yeah this is for the Amazon Market. Main problem is that Amazon only allows certain apps to be downloaded over wifi. It sucks and as of yet there is no workaround that I know of. I'm sure some form of proxying would work but that's just as much of a pain as doing any kind of workaround. Amazon just needs to remove this limitation as a whole. I mean really where's the benefit for them to have you use your wifi connection vs your mobile connection.
you trying to get monopoly?
haha me too...
Removed my "annoyed" message. lol .. ignore this.

I just grabbed that using 4g, but I've had that wifi issue before.
EDIT: I guess I didn't get it with 4g. It looked like it had downloaded and said update but then I saw it was hung up and it started after I switched to wifi.
Quite silly at this point, they could just give you the large data download warning that I believe the Market gives you.
If they hear from enough people I would bet they would change it. They started a packing feedback after I returned a hdd 3 times and bought somewhere else due to poor packing. I'm sure they had many complaints.

CM10, 4g but no 3g?

Hi all,
I've been desperately wanting to use CM10 as my daily driver, but for some reason I can't get 3g to work with it. For some really odd reason, I was able to access the 4g network which is very spotty around here. It would only connect for short periods, but I did get a couple of speed tests completed.
I've tried installing Deck's 9/19 version, as well as some of the Cyanogen nightlies, even the latest Paranoid Android, all with the same result.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? I'd really like to get back to CM as soon as possible.
Thanks!

Try changing network settings from LTE/CDMA to just CDMA
CM10 has a issue connecting to eHRPD right now. Its a bug. A bad one.....
Thanks for the tip. I did try changing the network mode with no result.
If that's a bug, it certainly is a big one. I'm surprised that I haven't read any complaints about it. I went through the entire thread. I saw a few things about RIM vs. NV but not really much else.
Any idea where I can read more about this bug?

Its a big discussion on the IRC channel. Toast&Deck have been made aware and are trying to get a solution.
It only recently started to affect large numbers, before it was hit and miss but much more reliable. I went back to 9/11, seems fine to me, no nv support though.
OK. Thanks for the heads-up. I generally only log on to IRC long enough to get the link.
I'll keep an eye out for more info. Can I get the 9/11 version on IRC as well?
Gonna go look now.

My 3G used to work, but now it's not working either. Where can I find this 9/11 version?

[Q] Did this wifi issue ever get fixed?

Has there ever been a fix for the issue where the phone randomly switches back and forth between 3G and wifi? i constantly get "The page can not be displayed" message. My phone does it quite a bit when I am at home. Very annoying!!
I never had that issue. I dont see other threads about that being a problem either. Maybe u have poor wifi signal?

No, it happens but people are starting to give up on the EVO LTE.
Mine does this and I have been trying to figure it out as well.
Note: switching Rom's doesn't help
I dont have any problems with 3g/wifi switching. I use wifi all day at work no issues whatsoever. And people giving up on the lte? I dont see it.
What ROM are you using? I'm running Decks CM10 and never had that issue.
Sent from my CM10 Evo LTE
for the most part that wifi issue was fixed in one of the OTA's we got.. i used to have problems with my wifi staying on when i was out of range.. after the OTA we got that had the fix in it,, i havent had any problems with it since...
The Ota for me never fixed the problem. I may try CM10. I have heard that CM10 uses different drivers for Wifi.

I as well have not had problems like that unless my WiFi router is far away.
I did see a post before about the antenna springs in some evo lte's making poor contact and they fixed it. Not sure if that's your problem. I would make sprint give me another one.

I read a post about stretching the springs and tried it. Surprisingly my wifi signal increase dramatically.

P.S. I never had the wifi dropping problem just did this to increase my range and it did.

I am convinced that this problem is not a ROM issue. I get the problem on every ROM I've flashed, MeanROM, Fresh, Sinister and I I'm now currently UREvo. I have the same on every one. I've tried current kernels as well and nothing.
My problem is while leaving the range of a wifi network it will not disconnect and then connect to mobile network. Then the same thing happens in reverse when going from mobile to wifi it will not make the hand off automatically. I have to manually turn all radios off then back on or reboot altogether.
I have decided to unroot, relock and flashRUU and see if I have the same problem. If so, I'm headed back to Sprint for warranty replacement.

They are the metal spring tabs under the shiny black cover on the back of the phone. Not the ones on the cover itself but the ones on the phone under the cover.
Go to a spot where your Wi-Fi signal starts to fade and take note of your location and signal strength. Then remove the back cover and gently bend those metal contacts up away from the phone a very small amount. You may not even be able to see a difference. I used a very small screwdriver. Then replace the cover making sure it is firmly attached. Go back to that location and notice you now have full signal strength there and can go a bit farther before it drops. (it did for me anyways).
DISCLAIMER- As usual, I assume no responsibility if you break your phone. I'm just passing on a technique I learned in a forum that was a positive experience for me.

[Q] Signal strength, dropped calls

I have had a slight issue with call quality and dropping calls sense ive gotten this phone. I love absolutely everything about it but, when I make calls sometimes the other party cannot hear me, or the call will simply drop entirely. I have two phones, the Sprint G3 and the Sprint Galaxy Nexus. So far the Nexus still gets a better signal. I'm just a bit baffled, I have tried updating the PRL's and that helped slightly. Also im located in the Ogden Utah area. Anyone else have similar issues? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Try turning off Voice Enchantment in Call Settings.

Another thing you can try is set network to LTE/CDMA. Or if you don't have LTE just use CDMA.
I know it's helped me in the past.
LG's don't have the best reception.

Sorry I haven't been on in a few days. Turning it off did help with people not being able to hear me from time to time. But the random disconnects have still be an issue.
