I have firmware 2.2 v10b
I have some q questions like
can I un root my phone with z4root?
what is temporary root option? how long does it take to root? how much phone memory does it need?
I don't want to install custom rom, so can I still over clock?
what tools do I need for overclock? set cpu is not free
I only want to overclock so as to be able to watch videos at full/regular speed.
till what frequency does p500 remain stable?
With temporary root your phone is rooted until you restart the phone. This take a few minutes. 20-30mb of phone memory needed
You can unroot.
To overclock you must flash an overclockable kernel, check the development topics.
Setcpu is free for xda users http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
My maximum is 787mhz. In this fq run stable.

Yes you can root with z4 root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 and i also suggest you install a custom recovery and ROM here http://tablet-crunch.blogspot.com/2011/01/lg-optimus-t-rooting-recovery-rom.html I am overclocked using Setcpu at 806mhz on megatron ROM it is a safe way to root and put in custom ROM i dont know about your phone but even rooted with setcpu it wouldnt overclock past 600 the best kernal to use is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929941 its very fast and fixes the touch screen bug
I read divx video does not work on custom rom. overclocking is useless for me if video won't play.
is it necessary to install custom rom to use set cpu for overclocking? can't I do it on the default rooted firmware?
I'm using stock 2.2 and can overclock with the setcpu app after flashing the Mik_os kernel. This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247 has links to a couple kernels that would work. It's also a great reference thread.

So I finally got my phone rooted. I want to download the set cpu for root. What would the ideal settings for me be? Im rooted with ryans lag fix, no custom roms or kernel. Thanks guys.

Well if you want to OC then you need a custom kernel... Other then that 200/1000 (W/O Custom Kernel) 200/1200 (W/ Custom Kernel)
And DONT click "Set On Boot"
if you don't care about the battery drain, I cranked mine up to 1000mhz constant or use conservative. powersave is incredibly slow.

Honestly Set CPU is not nessisary because the Galaxy S CPU scales automatically in other words if you need 1ghz it gives you it, but if you need 800mhz it only gives you that etc...That being said if you want to underclock the best speed it 800mhz and if you want to overclock you should go to 1200mhz (1.2ghz). To overclock you will need a custom kernel.

Why don't you want to set it on boot? Does this mean you have to reset when you boot?
I recently rooted my O1 using Ginger break. It rooted successfully. Now when I installed SetCPU (which I downloaded frm xda), it shows the maximum freq as 600MHz. I am on stock ROM and don't plan to change it before seeing the official Gingerbread release. I just want to know if it is possible to overclock on the stock ROM using SetCPU or any other tool.

Install a custom recovery and flash a custom kernel (such as franco). Do not ask how, covered in multiple places.
AFAIK the stock rom doesn't allow for overclocking.

As already said above in my post (and also in my signature), overclocking is a matter of kernel and not of ROM.

Look, either the CPU gets overclocked or not; other than that, SetCPU or any other method has absolutely no influence on performance.
Read the sticky threads before asking more questions like this because if you had done that, you would have known that with stock kernel there is NO OVERCLOCKING!
Thanks for quick reply
I am not aware of this kernel & custom roms.
I have seen in this forum if u install kernel u will get good performance. But i dont know how to do this? can u provide me some link?
u need to flash custom recovery first
then flash roms and kernels that u like...
i suggest u flash amonra 2.2.1 recovery...
Just read the tutorial on the very first page.
Btw check out CPUtuner on market. Its free and is very much customisable.

ok so I rooted my Galaxy S2 I9100 phone by flashing jeboo_kernel_i9100_v1-2a.tar and im using android 4.1.2 ...i cant overclock my CPU to 1.5Gz!...
I am confused that i need different kernel in order to overclock my phone by watching youtube video..
I am just worried if i flash with that kernel needed for SET CPU ..will this unroot my phone? or it keeps the phone as it is rooted??

don't think that that kernel allows o/c (i may be wrong) look at the thread for that kernel... i'm using 2.1 and think the link is in my signature. Flashing any custom kernel will give you root by default unless otherwise stated by the dev. so you won't lose root access by flashing another kernel. There are other kernels too look around there usually top of the thread because there really popular. Good luck

ok so if i update my kernel to jeboo_kernel_v2.1 CWM to my galaxy S2 I9100 running android 4.1.2..will that allow me to overlclock..im worried because when i tried last time all applications stopped working that needed rooting access..so that doesnt affect my rooting apps right ?
You would have to read the thread as to weather you can o/c and how far. Im not sure. As for root apps issue you shouldnt have any although they may need su access granting again.
MS1 Neatrom 4.4 Jeboo 2.1
I own a GTi9300 4.1.2 XXEMC2 rooted but still on stock (didn't find any advantage in any custom ROM so far) i rooted it using CFautoroot.. I didn't install CMW yet using ROM manager, but im willing to once i find a kernel that will let me overclock my phone.
So any adviced Kernel that will work on my phone to overclock? Currently SetCpu only allows me to underclock :/.
Thanks in advancee
N. B: I DONT OWN A MEMORY CARD IN CASE ITS NEEDED TO FLASH A KERNEL
check the development section for compatible kernels. all of them allow OC
