I am sure several people have posted about the static issue on this tablet. In case nobody here has, at random intervals the tablet will make a loud hissing sound (regardless of volume or sound settings). A reboot will fix this, but not permanently. My two questions are:
Is there a fix for this that I can perform?
If not, can I send it in for a replacement from Woot or Viewsonic? (only had it a day)
I think you should send it back. I had the same issue and finding no solution here or on other forums I emailed woot for an rma. I got an email back the next day with return shipping instructions and shortly after that another one to tell me they shipped the replacement tablet.
At first I wasn't sure if it was a fault with the rom (Vegan) I put on. I never really tested it for sound while it was stock and did not notice the problem. Once I put it back to 3588 to send it back, it did the same thing: static noise after coming back from sleep or no sound at all if it was on mute before it went to sleep.
I'm glad I sent it back, the new one works perfectly.
Alright, thanks! I have run into a problem, I tried the solution for reverting to stock found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 but I am stuck in an infinite loop of the Tap n Tap load screens, and the tablet never loads. Any ideas?
I'm sorry but I can't help you there - I didn't use NVflash. But I saw lots of posts about the same boot loop problem, so you might find a solution searching the forum.

Hmmm, I bought mine from Office Depot. So, I should be able to flash it back to stock and just make the exchange.

My atrix seems to have a problem with the touch screen on the top portion of the phone when I'm in portrait mode. For example, when I go into settings, I can't seem to click on wireless network settings.
I thought it may have been a problem with an app I had installed, so I turned on advanced task killer, but I couldn't click on kill all running apps since it's in that non functioning top portion of my screen. Lol
Now I'm here on the xda app and I couldnt click on the top portion to go to my favorite threads.
Obviously I've already done a power cycle a couple times. Sometimes it fixes it, but it doesn't fix it for long as the problem seems to randomly come back...
I'm considering doing a factory reset, but I'm rooted with designgears aroot script. I already thawed all the apps I've froze. Would it be OK to factory reset from there?
If anyone has any suggestions aside from doing a factory reset, it will be very much appreciated!

Ok, so factory reset did not work... I'm trying to flash DG's retail SBF and see if that does the trick now

Same thing here. Sometimes the widgets i have at the top of the screen won't respond when touched. Also my screen shifts back and forth on its own in portrait mode, kind of jiggles like the phone is being shaken. I unrooted, did a factory reset and still no joy. I'm going to flash the retail SBF tonight and see if that clears it up. If not back AT&T for a replacement or the HTC Inspire. (I'm still in my 30 day window)
I have the same problem.. I have done a hard reset, but it doesn't seem to fix it
I will try to flash DG's retail SBF today.
flashing the device didn't fix the issue
I ended up getting mine exchanged. Its strange that it only started to happen randomly.

Might want to double check and post in this thread: https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/362154/
Thanks, Reuben. I'm sorry to see that people are having this problem. I have the same problem but from the bottom of my touch screen. We've identified that when this happens, it's because the Internal SD was partitioned. Not sure what's causing the issue with the top of the screen for users though.
I sure hope a fix is rolled out. Many people have imported their Atrix's and it's hell trying to exchange it. I'd rather be able to just fix it!
This happened to my first atrix: bought the day after realease, problem developed withing 36 hours, I'd say.
At the time, I didn't think much of the issue (though it was simply unacceptable) and discounted mine as an inevitable lemon. Obviously, when I took it back (literally within 3 days of release) nobody had had this problem yet and the sales rep was baffled. Got an exchange and all is well now.
I believe it has something to do with a defective fingerprint reader that mucking with the screen, but I could be wrong.
Ultimately, my phone is fine now, haven't had a problem since the exchange. I would actually argue against it being a developing problem and, while it may take a couple days to manifest, more so an out of the box defect.
I'm glad I found this and it's not just me! I've had this phone a little over a week and it WAS running awesome but now not so much. I have more of the ghost finger or studder I've heard about. I found most of the issues texting and emailing or anything with typing. The rest of the time it works fine. Just really hard to respond quickly by any means.
It was running fine stock, then I rooted and it continued to run fine. Then over the last few days it's been a headache. I removed the root, still there, factory default, still there. It was even happening when I was trying to log into motoblur at the very beginning.
I'm going with a hardware issue and taking it in for replacement tomorrow.
Thanks.
It seems like you'll have to replace it, brother. No fix found yet.
Damn! I knew I should have returned it during my 30days... I was really under the impression that it was just something I did coz I didn't notice it when I first got it and went ahead and rooted it... tried almost everything too like everybody did but no luck
Do you think I'll still be able to exchange it? I got it like 2 months ago
Replaced mine yesterday and it is running great. The guy at AT&t said he has seen a few doing this.
Did you have to call the warranty service also or were you able to exhange it at the store coz in my case I had to call the warranty service and they're sending me a replacement in the mail with the prepaid packaging to send to my old one back
I just went in, he opened a new one swaped my sim card and I was off. Gave me a new receipt and done.

Hello. i've been having this problem in my atrix for about a month now. it seems to be hardware related but im outside USA. i could send it in with my gf to get it exchanged but i bought it on ebay.
should i contact motorolla for warranty or go to att to get it replaced?
(please provide a # or website for motorolla warranty if you know it)
I have same problem, hapened after 2 months of use, the top portion of the screen doesnt work, if im in portrait i cant scroll down the notification bar, only in landscape. And when in landscape i cant type the letter Q.
Really annoying, but i have to wait until september when i came back to USA.
Motorola Brazil dont honor the warranty from a Usa Atrix.
For everyone thats experiencing this Screen Issue with the Atrix, SGS Touchscreen Booster inthe Market Place will fix the issue. I have returned one Atrix already, and was close to throwing this one in the garbage. It makes me mad that Motorola has this issue and are not pushing a Software Fix. Can't wait until I can get Cyanogen on this beast!
**Update Sent my phone in to get repaired, they replaced the screen and reflashed it. Came back with the exact same issue. Very Frustrated!
My motorola atrix is a problem with the touch after I managed to release "root", you have to play lower down the keys to be hit from above, in addition to the menu buttons do not work, but half of it straight up works best, does anyone have any solution?
Perhaps a better bios reset, or a full format! hardware will be? or software?
Somebody help!

Any one know, where is ATRIX touch controller?
First off, let me say I have searched for an answer prior to posting and asking this question. I am running Trigger v2.8.2 and my Vibrant has randomly started opening apps, switching screens and opening menus. I performed a wipe and reinstalled the ROM. I even went so far as to use ODIN to return to stock and install Trigger again, but I have not seen a change in the phones behavior.
I do not believe this has anything to do with the ROM, just not sure what is going on.
Anyone have an idea as to what the issue might be?
Just on the surface of it, it sounds like your touchscreen digitizer is about to go tits up...
that makes sense, the screen is very unresponsive in addition to the other random issues. It might be time to look for another phone.
Out of curiosity, what causes such an issue?
I wish I knew, however I do change ROM's frequently.
Tell tmo your phone won't turn on, they send you a refurb
I took your advice and called TMO. I should receive my replacement Vibrant by the 31st of March.
Thanks

So I've looked at other threads and can't find any advice about this static issue I'm having.
First of all, I'm on Vegan Ginger 7.0 and that's all I've done with the tablet.
When I first boot the device sound works fine. After a while the sound get static-y...then becomes just static.
Is anyone else having this issue and I just don't know how to search the forums?

About 90 minutes after I made this post someone made another one. It seems it's a defective tablet and I'll need to flash back to stock, then exchange for a different one.
Might want to try plugging headphone in and removing them. MIGHT take care of the issue

Yep, I just figured out how to properly use the "Search" feature of this forum and found my "answer" over on a development thread for Vegan 7. I don't have my first 10 posts yet so I can't respond to it but at least I found where they suggested that. There was a caution issued for this fix though. It was mentioned that there are only two "shoddy" solider connections on the head phone jack and that over use could easily wear them out.
I did notice that after the upgrade from 5.1.1 to 7.0.0 the sound issue had gone away for several days. It's come back and I've been systematically wiping various caches in an effort to identify a potential culpret. This morning I wiped cache partition and haven't had any issues in a few hours. We'll see how long that lasts....
Well, I must go find some other things to post so I can get back to the development thread and try to troubleshoot this sound issue further.
Sounds like hardware. Like you said restore it to original, and return it.
Just received my 16gb Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Amazon, really disappointed on it due to constant crash, freeze, lag...etc
ok.. open the package, boot it up, straight feeling sluggish between screen and apps already, then play around with it, install few apps, but it randomly close the apps or just froze without any reason and i have to hard power switch off to reboot.
Thinking it might incompatible apps, but apparently not.. it randomly freeze when open "setting", "google maps", "Quick Office HD"...
I done wipe/factory reset but still the same...
So.. guys think it is hardware related or software related? will restore 3.1 fix this issue? If possible, where do i get the vanila stock 3.1 honeycomb firmware and will it void warranty if i install it via say.. Odin?
I'm in Australia, so sending it back to US for warranty will be quite a pain... any help will be appreciated~
Thanks
by freeze do you mean the touch screen is unresponsive? the same thing started happening to mine today. i called amazon and am getting a replacement for free just call them they will send one out before you ship the one you have. I called today and am getting mine tomorrow but im worried because this is the second tab i had to get replaced.
I am waiting for my SGT from amazon to arrive now
hope it would be good unit
I am from Iraq it is so much difficult to return it to US
It should of shipped with 3.1 mate
Like all things that are mass produced you get some lemons in the mix sounds like you may have one
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I would reflash the 3.1 update via odin and hope that fixes it
I couldn't risk the no warrany do I got mine from mobicity.com.au as it comes with 1yr Australian warranty

This happens to me as well with my SGT. I notice the keyboard will "stop responding" while typing over GTalk or something. Also the navigation keys will become unresponsive while browsing. A lock/unlock of the device seems to fix it.
A friend of mine was researching this, and on other forums people are complaining of the same thing, and apparently it's a part software, part hardware issue. I guess the sensors in the device loose track of where your tapping on the screen. I'm to try a factory reset and see what happens.

I'm sure you could find it in the development section, not sure if it will void the warranty though. I'm tempted to try this as well if the factory reset will not work.
Strange. I received my 32GB from Amazon on Monday and haven't had any issues at all. Sounds like you got a lemon.
Well, fwiw, I had a GT 10.1 and returned it for 2 reasons:
1) Screen has a dancing/moving part of the panel (towards the middle), where even when OFF, the LCD panel would reflect light in various sheens -- kind of like a think layer of oil on top of water. Slightly depressing the panel would get it to shift and move, and sometimes disappear; only to reappear.
2) Copied 350+MB of .jpegs onto the device, and it took 5.5 hours (yes, hours), to copy the data.
So, I returned the unit. In all fairness, I've got a friend who has a xoom, and had him try copying the data, and got the same results... so #2 is probably a Honeycomb bug, but #1 is definitely a GT defect. I'm now awaiting a Toshiba Thrive

5 hours? I'm going to test that right now.
So you guys think i should return it? It cost $55 send from Australia to US and another $55 send from US forwarder to me... or should i try to flash stock 3.1 first? But.. where do i get 3.1 stock firmware? Any links will be much appreciated.

You can try this post in the development section. I've only had my Tab for a few days so I haven't had time to tinker with it much. I'm going to try returning mine first for a replacement. If that doesn't do the trick I may try a reload from the link here:

I bought the 16gb white version at Best Buy union square on June 12th, and returned it for the same 1) problem on the screen. The second one seemed to be ok, until the second day of use I saw the "oil" mark appearing and moving depending on where I holded/pressed the tab on the back.
But know I have to say the problem doesn't exist anymore. I think it is because of the packaging and the fact the tab stayed a lot of time in the same position before it arrives to your hands. I recommend use it for a week and see if the problem persists.
or they manufactured them in china...
people also report dust in their tabs, which is pretty much proof of cheap manufacturing.
I haven't had any issues.
Anybody figured out a real solution? It looks like a reccuring problem through forums. I got mine from Amazon forwaded to Qatar and basically it is unusable. Starts once every10 attempts...freezes after 10-30 seconds.
i have two and i have no issues with either one.
the first one i got was locked - the second is unlocked
i see no performance difference between the two
and both were purchased from amazon.
I bought mine in bestbuy and I still w/o problems... It was locked but nothing to worry using odin to 3.01>root>custom rom... it seem that ther is some galaxy tab 10.1 lemon editions
I've got a rooted gtab running vegan Ginger edition. it was working fine up until today. I turned it on and to my dismay the screen is green where ever there is and black. also, white areas seem pixelated. restarting used to provide a temporary fix, but now nothing is helping. is there a solution to this issue that wont require me buying a brand new one.
