I know there is CF-Root, but I was just wondering, why does rom manager claim to be compatible (the recent update bought supposed SGS2 support) when you need a non-existent kernel. By non-existent, I know there is CF-Root, but thats modified and has some other app for managing it whereas on the market place page it says Samsung Users need a clockwork compatible kernel. ??????
I know CF-Root has it intergrated, and Chainfire said Rom Manager was not compatible, but if there was a supposed compatible kernel for clockworkmod, without it integrated, then would Rom Manager work?
I'm sure Chainfire knows what hes talking about, but I was just wondering what these ClockwordMod compatible are and where? I'm guessing they are non-existent and Rom Manager was just making itself compatible.
Of course I am probably completely mistaken, and I've either misread something or it is CF-Root that Koush is referring to, which is unlikely cos its integrated.
Thanks in Advance.
Edd
EDIT: Damn, I'm blind. I missed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693. Sorry for wasting space :\
anyway.....my adb ability and fastboot ability has mysteriously disappeared
ever since I started using cherryblur (V0.4d IIRC)
the dev (navalyt) suggested me to sbf or flash back to stock.
whats currently the safest way for me to go back to froyo?
cheers

Use a froyo CWM fruit cake. Wipe before and after.
If all else fails, flash a 2.3.4 sbf with pudding.

If fruit capes fail then use RSD to flash gingerbread and pudding right?

IF you have cherryblur that means you are unlocked..
probably you have and news tenfar port of CWM or the official via Rom Manager..
right?
i think cherryblur is only by cwm flashable and not fastboot(no need to)
so.. the safest way.. is CWM zips..
make a backup of what you are right now..
and then flash a fruit cake of froyo.. or maybe an old backup if you had before you went on 2.3 ..
AVOID sbf's..
If the contain bootloader stuff, you are screwed!

Fruit cake shouldn't fail. It should flash without problems. I meant, if fruit cake doesn't fix your problem, only THEN use RSD to flash 2.3.4 sbf with pudding. (You are unlocked, right?)

heya dudes
sorry to revive thsi thread
tried to use a froyo fruit cake to flash back to froyo...BUT in the middle of flashing the zip it popped up a warning "noob check: build prop...olyATT" or something along those lines.
is that because my build prop is showing the french version of the atrix instead? cherryblur 1.3 is based on the france ROM...soo editing the build prop shoudl fix my problem?
Hello there,
I have a dumb question, just for the sake of asking:
Will it be possible to go back to 4.1.83 from an unlocked 2.3.4 via CWM?
If a flashable 4.1.83 was to be available, will flashing it on a 2.3.4 custom rom after a full wipe will cause a hard brick such as flashing one using RSD?
This question is with no real intention to go back, just to satisfy my curiosity...
many thanxes
Look at the thread titled "OTA 2.3.4" in this section.

Yes it's possible via CWM. Safest way would be to use the "fruitcakes" that SamCripp created. The thread is in the development forum.

Is bootstrap recovery the same as clockwork recovery? Are they one and the same?
Also I'm on kernal 2.3.4 do I have to do anything special if I want to load a 2.3.5 rom?
Sorry I'm new to playing around with motorola phones.
I thought they were the same when I first started hacking my phone. But it turns out they are not the same.
As for updating your phone to 2.3.5, if you are on stock 2.3.4, all you need to do is root your phone, install bootstrap recovery and flash the 2.3.5 ROM using bootstrap recovery.
There is a nice guide someone put together in the dev. Section.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Basically, yes - those recoveries a almost the same. They are both used in the same way, which is to backup/restore, wipe data and flash a ROM. So there's no real difference.
As for the 2.3.4 kernel. SOME people can get away with flashing a 2.3.5 based ROM on their 2.3.4, others can't. Either way, I'd recommend just updating to 2.3.5 to safe. Plus (to me), 2.3.5 seems smoother and faster.
To Update to 2.3.5, just download the update.zip from here: http://www.multiupload.com/0ZT7FTOW0R
This is just the update file, so all you need to do is flash that, but I won't get into much about that.
If you need a guide on updating it, then you can look at this one right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391824
That's the one I used.
Ok so I'm currently on Molten 2.2 wich is a 2.3.4 romand was looking at liberty rom wich is 2.3.5 rom. So all I would need to do is just clear the needed data and flash it like any other rom?
The reason for asking about if it was clockwork was because in one of the roms the instructions says to use clockwork and I never saw a like to clockwork in the dev section
Yes I looked in the stickies first and these were just the questions that popped up that I didn't see the answer to it. I may have just over looked it but I figured I would ask before I borked my phone lol
looks like while I was writing a responce some one answered lol thank you all for your help
U don't need to root to install 2.3.5
It is signed by moto so we can flash in stock recovery
(actually that's how you SHOULD FLASH 2.3.5)
And our BSR is a hacked/ported cwm
To update to 2.3.5 you WILL need to be STOCK (you CAN be rooted but it will take away root when u flash it....just root again with zergrush...)

Just so you know, Liberty is a 2.3.4 rom. Have a look at the OP in that thread. If you're on Molten, just wipe data and cache and you should be set.
I have CM7 currently running on my X2 and would like to go back to the stock ROM. I already searched the forums, "HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2" was the closest topic I could find, but this unroots and locks the bootloader if I understand correctly. I would like to just know if there is a way to go back to stock without locking the bootloader and unrooting. Also, if I wanted to switch to another ROM right now instead of stock, how would I do that since I'm on CM7? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm not that confident in what I'm doing, I've only rooted once and locked once and somehow managed to get CM7 on my phone.
So my questions are: How do I go back to stock ROM without unrooting or locking the bootloader?
How do I change the ROM to another custom ROM?
So confused. Your answers are appreciated!

first , our bootloader has always been locked. i doubt this will ever change.
second, in order to install another ROM, just make sure it is for 2.3.4, and follow the instructions on the thread.
to get back to stock, find the EZsbf iso image, burn it onto a disk, and save yourself some time trying to learn how to use RSDlite. with the disk, sbf-ing is pretty straight forward, with step by step on-screen instructions.
here is the link actually, http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-hacks/41697-tool-ezsbf-dx2.html

But, didn't we have to unlock the bootloader for the X2? I just rooted my Nexus 7 and I had to unlock the bootloader before I rooted it
So what happens? Does the phone get unrooted?

So the process of changing a ROM is SBFing back to stock (unrooting), rerooting, and then flashing the ROM? There's no way to jump from custom ROM to custom ROM? To change, you have to SBF to factory restore every time? This seems like a lot more work than it has to be. Isn;t there an easier way?
One last question, to SBF back to factory, do you have to get a .zip for the stock apps like I did for CM7?
install cm7 bsr, use it the same way as the normal dx2 bsr
install rom in dx2 system recovery (bsr)
you dont need to sbf, unless you are planning on flashing eclipse 2.3
then use 2.3.5 sbf

Wait, which question were you answering? I'm confused. I wanted to know how to get back to stock ROM, SBFing I'm assuming.
How can I jump from custom ROM to custom ROM. Wait, is that what you were answering? So I dont have to SBF if I have CM7 and I want another custom ROM? Just install from bootstrap recovery? Also, are all ROMS compatible with all phones? Because, I wa looking to get PARANOIDANDROID on my X2 because it looks cool, or is there limits?

yes, you don't have to sbf, if you are going to install a rom
there a couple of different bootstraps
stock bsr, and cm7 bsr, most of the roms require cm7 bsr

also, do some more reading on that list on how to do things with this phone. please,.

This phone is complicated. The bootloader is not unlocked. Even though we have root and custom ROMs, the bootloader remains locked. This is why a lot of the ROMs that are based on CM9 or CM10 will have a good amount of bugs. Most still function good enough for a daily driver though. Even though we have CM9 and CM10 which is Android 4.0+, the kernel is still 2.3.4. This is the main reason anything based on 4.0 and above have issues. I hope that cleared some stuff up about the bootloader.
Next, like others have said, you can flash from ROM to ROM like any other phone as long as you are on Android 2.3.4. The only exception is Eclipse, which requires you to be on 2.3.5. But also, CM10 has a bug in the recovery where it prevents you from flashing a ROM over it. So if you decide to use CM10, you wont be able to flash back to CM9, CM7, PA, etc. or even flash an update to CM10 if or when it comes. Your best bet in this case is to backup a CM7 or CM9 or PA or whatever ROM other than CM10 so that you can go back from CM10 without doing an SBF. And again, like others have said, every time you SBF, you lose root. But its easy to quickly root it again.
I tried to explain this the best I could. Like I said, this phone is complicated. The devs have done the best they coud at keeping the DX2 up to date though.
