Hello good people,
Goal: Upgrading T959UVJFD (2.1) to T959UVKB5 (2.2) w/ Voodoo Lagfix & Root
Tools available: Odin3, 512.pit, both stock roms, KB5+Voodoo kernel
Problem: I can accomplish everything but properly flashing the KB5+voodoo kernel.
Issues:
"Not enough space on partition"
Tried to partition through Clockwork Recovery Mod, and now have MBR checksum errors
Please help:
How do I correct the MBR checksum errors on the internal SD (I've tried Partition Manager on PC as well as chkdsk /r)
How do I properly install Voodoo lagfix when I don't have enough partition space, and attempting to fix that drives the phone wacky?
Additional Notes:
There is no vital information or files on the phone.
Thank you for your time. =0)
Shennanigans! LOL i love that werd! Man i got stories bout that haha!
Usually if I'm unsure i just start from scratch. Skip any step if you feel your phone is past that point. This is just what I would do:
ODIN to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Root - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723479
Gain CWM recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
Flash ROM of choice(i assume ur going for this?:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193 if so keep in mind you'll wanna use the CWM flash as stated in OP. Good luck!
Looks like you have the same issue as mine. can you post your partition layot using parted?
Here is how you fix your problem (and any problem) on the Vibrant. Make a nandroid back up and backup through titanium. Then copy the whole int sd card with all that data on to the computer.
then: Depending on your problem you can follow this guideline OR--- you can just do the JFD only depends on what your phone is doing to you..........
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin (use 1.7 or higher), plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
15. Then, root the phone Then> download Rom Manager and then> you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work flashing a new rom without problems just like it did right out of the box
good luck
Thanks Everyone
Hey guys,
Just as an update, I used Odin and got everything stock 2.2, then I followed the instructions in a stickied thread to get the "green" version of ClockwordMod on it and have it rooted.
I then installed the Dead Horse Kernel which has been a blessing. I don't know if that MBR error is still going on, but it hasn't caused me any issue.
I suggest everybody who is looking to have rooted stock 2.2 w/ some nice extras go w/ Dead Horse... doing straight up Voodoo Lagfix will just cause you grief if you're not an advanced person.
Thanks for the replies. I'll be bothering you all again in the near future. =oD
Awesome! Glad you got it werkin!

i flashed clockwork recovery and then kings kernel then when i reboot it goes to the big s then the screen turn black
i tried wiping all the user data and cache and it still does the same thing?
can i get out of this situation or am i bricked for life i justgot my vibrant today!
How long did you let it sit on the black screen for? That has happened to me before but after a few minutes it booted with no issues. Good news is your not bricked for life.
it is till on the black screen i try to flash jacs kernel and halfwy it stop and automatically goes to the main clockwork recovery menu?
i tried using odin but it wont recognize my phone even after i put it in download mode
If your running ji6 you have to flash kernel back support first then the custom kernel or you will get stuck at vib screen.
Bionix Final w/JACs UV/0C
okay i flashed stock ji6 with odin and now it is still stuck at the Big S screen
Take the battery and sim card out then odin back to ji6. After that if you want a custom kernel for ji6.first down load the kernel back support zip, then the custom kernel zip. Go into clockwork recovery flash kernel back support then flash custom kernel then reboot.
Bionix Final w/JACs UV/0C
i dont want the kernel all i am saying is that i have already went back ji6 3 times and it always gets stuck at big s screen

If only you were here on october
I was so scared I thought I bricked and since I was new to odin I didn't know how to use. People told me to use kernel back suport and stuff
What would've happened if there was no eugenes froyo? It would just keep getting stuck on galaxy s screen even if going to stock
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Having trouble using ODIN!!

Much help would be appreciated!!! Have to work all day today which will be slow, so I can work on fixing this. My main question is what type of file is pit & tar? Pit properties is coming up as a window shell comand, Tar opens with unknow app? Not sure if this is my problem or not, I get ODIN to run and complete the steps and end up with the above.
Using Odin V1.3
512.pit
t959UVJI6
did you disable lagfix before you did this? If you didn't have lagfix then I would try to go to stock 2.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
If you had lagfix, its a little more complicated and you may need to use Android SDK. Search for lagfix and flash and the information should pop up.
dont use the .pit file for JI6.. only way I can do JI6 for some reason.
see if that works for you
can you direct me to the files that I need....pda and pit PLEASE...

was completely stock and I just rooted/unlocked. Swithed Sd cards and stuck in boot loop, after booting up again, trying to recover through ODIN, so probably no lagfix

just use the JI6 PDA file that you used..... dont add the 512.pit file to it in ODIN
okay found a solution for now, my issue was related to ROM manager with the SD card, kept getting wrong MD5 Sum!! Really pissed me off about this since I was running through ODIN correctly,
Temporary Solution...
Updated the rom with Eugene froyo!! This brought me out of boot looping and now I have a rom on my phone can use it but no downloading or anything. Try to downgrade to stock rom but not luck.
I had the same problem and had to start over again with JFD and the 512 .pit file. Afterward i went to JI6 through KIES and then used Eugene's Froyo ROM with root and took it from there. I had a weird problem where my drive letters went from e and f, to g and h (that's what they are now). I also had a problem with the CW file on my SD card. I eventually had to move it to the phone in order to flash CW recovery. Flashed and am running Nero V3. Best ROM i've ever used!! Highly recommend.....

I know im only soft bricked, so at least i know i can SOMEHOW fix this.. I can get into download mode and recovery, but when i got to recovery and choose install ZIP from Sd card, it tells me nothing is there. I tried factory reseting it,..Can ANYONE help me with this. Please guys, Im in BIG need of help..
Edit- I got Odin to work, Im going to see what happens next
If you can get into download mode and can use ODIN, why not just go back to stock and do everything over again?
Here is all you will need get these files
Eugenes froyo that does not brick
512 pit file
Stock JFD rom
Odin 1.70 or higher
Then follow this :
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.

15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
Hope you get it going
I had something similar happen, now I can get out of recovery mode (it says

I tried reinstalling Foryo stock (KA6) still didn't work.
What is the difference between KA6 and JFD?
JFD = 2.1 - Elcair
KA6 - 2.2 - Froyo
I would odin back to stock 2.1 (JFD) has always worked for me.
You might need to odin using the "repartition" checked...
I installed the Voodoo Kernal for eclair. Everything went smooth, but now I'm stuck with the Vibrant screen. I don't have a back up because I couldnt get on the clockwork recovery, my reason for flashing this Kernal...
Is there any way I can get the stock Kernal back? or did I hardbrick my phone?
You need to odin back to stock Read up on this in the Noob guide in the General section By S15274N
Here is the basic thing you need to do but go read up @ the noob section as well..
1. Open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
2. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
3. You want to make sure the 're-partition' box is checked.
4. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
Doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box.
5. Then, download Rom manager then>root the phone you will have to go into recovery and boot into there twice to see the cwm red menu. Once there you can flash a rom that is already loaded into the int sd card and flash your new Rom.
Thanks a lot. Much easier than I thought it was going to be.
Ok so today i finally figured out how to root my Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3g+(Telus and now as I'm going through trying to install custom roms i see that it only uses 3e and not CWR
Is there any solution to my problem and yes I have been looking around the forums for a almost 3 hours and now have become mildly enraged seeing no support for my phone
well, I have been going through alot of the same stuff with my Telus fascinate too.I don't think im capable of writing a full guide, but I can tell you the basics about how I got to CM7 with a working stable kernel.
First Odin back to stock 2.2
A. Download Odin (attached) and the Telus JL3 stock files http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C3DQ1LZF
B. Open Odin, and put the files in the appropriate boxes
s1_odin_20100512.pit in "PIT"
T959TLJL3-REV03-ALL-low-CL763100.tar.md5 in "PDA"
T959TLJL3_FROYO_Phone-CL763100.tar in "PHONE"
SGH-T959D-CSC-TLSJL3.tar.md5 in "CSC"
C. Boot into download mode by turning phone off, then holding "Volume Down" while connecting the phone to the computer
D. The first "ID:COM" box should turn yellow and show a numerical COM port
E. Click "Start" and wait for it to finish and reboot, and unplug the phone after the yellow box turns green and says "PASS"
next
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GJCCIU4N
Odin this file using the "pda" part of odin. Let your phone boot up and go through the voodoo lagfix. Once your booted up, it might be a good time too root your phone again.
also this might not be needed, but if you get no service once your on your custom rom.this can help.
So while still on stock, download an app called "nitrality" perform an efs backup. Then copy the "insanity" folder from your phone to somewhere safe.
ok, now that your rooted and have a cwm recovery, reboot into recovery and flash the custom kernel zip found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18268484&postcount=3865
CM7_SGS_20111009_NEO_17-voodoo-col_BLN.zip is what I use
pull battery and reboot into recovery once more. From there flash your rom, CM7 in my case.
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=galaxysmtd
After installing the rom, again reflash the platypus kernel, and your all good to go.
If you have no service, then put that "insanity" folder on your phone, install nitrality and perform the efs restore.
Sorry for the all over the place guide.

EDIT2: Ok so now that platypus is installed my phone is now looping from the SGH screen to Platypus and then for about a second it shows recovery mode
I used the stable RC of cm7. galaxysmtd
I apologize for the boot looping, im not overly technical. Just, those are the steps that got me up and running. Maybe try the other Kernel on that thread?
No its alright. I fixed to looping by flashing the stock froyo. Now i just need to figure out how to not have this happen again
