[Q] Echo on receivers end when using VooDoo? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've searched around but can't find anything about this so I humbly ask you guys not to flame me and point me in the right direction if I've overlooked something. Over the last month or so when I use any Kernel that has Voodoo my callers get an echo on their end when talking to me. I'm pretty sure it's Voodoo because when I run just KB1 or KB5 stock for instance the call is clear. When I load Voodoo I get reports of the echo.
Currently I'm on stock KB5 deodexed [Found Here] and the Bali KERNEL v1.7.2 [Found Here]. The only thing I can think of maybe is that it's because I'm running a stock ROM with a custom KERNEL, but I can't find anything that specifically says I can't do that. Any insight from anyone would be awesome. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

I'll try it out for ya tonight if nobody else posts a fix by the time i get off and see if i can reproduce your issue. I agree there shouldnt be any problems with this setup, kinda weird really. I will say people are having issues with 2.2 stock lately maybe thats ur issue, i dunno? you really shouldn't have any issues. Maybe try a diff kernel or modem? They are really easy just flash whenever, no need for 100% batt or to let phone sit really.
+1 on the links. easier to undrstand and see what ur doing to ur phone.

ok, I have it figured out. It's definitely the Wifi Calling App. I only get an Echo when I have it enabled. Now all I have to do is figure out how to fix that. Any clues anyone?

I dont have any wifi calling app and i was about to post confirmed here were my results:
- I made a call on Malice1.3.1 w/ Bullet 1.42Ghz kernel and NO ECHO.
- Flashed Stock froyo 2.2 and Bali kernel Voodoo disabled NO ECHO
- Enabled Voodoo made a call ECHO
my test was done with the same person each time. Good luck!

Caller's voice echoes back to them?

Several people have complained of hearing their own voice echoing back to them when on a call with me.
I tried *228 option 1 and 2, different ROMs, and turning the in-call volume down. But no luck.
I heard something about echo cancellation and hearing-aids, but haven't been able to find any fixes.
Anyone have a fix for this, or suggestion?
Ive noticed it happen a few times. A reset usually fixes it.

By that do you mean power-down and re-boot? I do that pretty regularly (at least every other day) and still have the problem.
Thanks though!

Suggestions that I have heard - update the radio, although I will not doing that on mine.
I have not seen any fixes that you have not already mentioned.
As a hearing aid user, I have been trying to follow this and see where the cause is. Mind if I ask,
What ROMs have you used specifically?
What are your software settings?
So far in all the reading, it is across the board so to speak. Have not seen any real fixes as of yet.
feel free to PM to discuss further.

I have used: Official21, Vanilla, Legend Build(EE), Eris Lightning, EvilEris2.01, Aloysius2.0, and Ivans0.8T2. I am now using Sense-able as it is the least buggy for me so far with OC. The only ones I can say for sure that have had the echo for me have been the last 4 including Sense-able.
Not sure what settings you're looking for, but here goes the ones I think may be related:
TTY off
Hearing Aids off
Voice Privacy off
In-Call Volume at about 75%

Thanks for the information, Evil Eris 2.0.1 does have the echo (which I need) Next on my list is Ivans, hope to be able to get time in the next day to try out.
As for settings, I am interested in comparison are these numbers.
Firmware Version: 2.1
Baseband Version: 2.32.40.11.09
Kernal Version : 2.6.29oc/[email protected]#25
Software number 2.2.651.1

I have tried Zen EXP by .mac. I like it, ran nice however heard no echo on it.
(edit: might want to try that one and see if the echo is present for you,)
Currently using Evil Eris 2.0.1 (edit: trying Ivan's 1.0 - nice, no problems so far and echo is present)

Anyone help me identify my rom?

I got my vibrant running 2.2 in early December unfortunately I don't know what rom I am running. I have been wanting to install black froyo theme but it says not compatible with Jk6 I really am hesitant about flashing a rom so on figure I start with a theme and get comfortable but i really don't know what rom is on this phone. I know it was flashed before I got the phone and if i do get any rom I need wifi calling and all i know is this runs it decently stable so I am happy with it since I need it.
This is what it says under about
Firmware 2.2
Baseband T959UVJK6
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build number FROYO. UVJK6
So I really don't know of I am compatible with black froyo that is the one for non Nero listed under themes
On the sd it seems there are multiple zip files with rom names so this makes it even more difficult here is what's on the sd
ObsidianV5.Zip
Fusion12_stock.Zip
StockJK6_v2.zip
That seems to be it. Yes i am rooted and I did titanium back up last night I feel like I am getting a little more audacious to finally do this and maybe sometime soon flash a new rom I just do. That's want to lose my wifi calling and is there way to get the phone exactly the way it is now if I screwed up? I been reading up 2 noob guides and it doesn't seem hard at all but i figure I start small. Thanks for any help in advance
Sent from my Vibrant using XDA App
Just upgrade your modem. I know you are hesitant but it's relatively easy and there are better modems out from the JK6.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9737728
pick one and go to town. I can personally verify it working on JL1,4,and 5.
why not just DL Nero v3? Then you know its compatible..
Nero3 does not have wifi calling. I absolutely need that on my rom.
Blizzard you can confirm that blackfroyo is working on your JI5 or you mean wifi calling on JI5? sorry my eyes are crossing here.
I am still trying to get a handle on what has what effect. Id flash Nero3 in a heartbeat if I knew wifi calling worked on it. Same with Axura but it doesnt look like its offered on either one

[Q] Poor Voice quality with ED01 kernels

With the ED01 kernels i have been getting everyone telling me that i sound horrible or im breaking up..i had the same problem with the EC01 kernels and went back to EC10 and everything is fine..i can hear it as well in my earpiece that i sound bad.
I want to just switch back to a EC10 kernel but not of them support edify and that is what the latest and greatest is (which i want)..
anyone have any other workarounds or heard of anything like this?
well i just switched to cwm 2.5 and flashed my EC10 kernel..but now i want voodoo sound 8..why is no one else having these issues with voice quality on specific kernels??
i even have exchanged my phone for a FRU to see if that was it..still the same

[Q] Vibrant on AT&T Qs

Hello everyone! I am brand new to the world of custom roms. Please laugh, but be helpful!
I am an AT&T customer, I received my Vibrant on Friday and have been learning plenty thanks to this site since then. I still have a lot to learn though, and if anyone could answer a few questions I would be very grateful.
I installed my first custom rom today. Bionix 1.3.1. So far it's great. It doesn't have all the Tmo bloatware that came on the stock eclair. I installed this rom because everyone said the GPS was great, it is very stable, good performance and good battery life.
So far, I have not been able to get the GPS working. Is this because I have an ATT Sim in the Vibrant? I am a total noob with this stuff, please don't laugh! I am not sure if the satellites are branded to certain companies or what (fill me in!). I have read that there are apps you can download that can help your GPS, but I am wary until I figure out if the Vibrant is incompatible with ATT satellites.
Can someone please explain in laymens terms what a Kernel is? Bionix came with Voodoo installed. To my understanding, Voodoo helps with audio and video display. But when I try to open the Voodoo app, it says that it is incompatible with my Kernel. How do I get a kernel that will work well with Bionix? (Again, sorry for the noobtalk.)
I'm sure I will have more questions in the coming weeks. Thanks in advance to being such a helpful community (you guys really are from what I have seen here!)
Anyone have some advice
I'd be happy to assist you. All you need to do on your phone is do some GPS fixes. I forgot which ones got my GPS working for my phone but Bionix GPS did not work out of the box. I remember I had to either download a GPSfix or do this
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/07/samsung-vibrant-suffering-gps-issues-quick-fix-available/
I remember the GPS was working great on the Bionix until I switched to different ROMs. You can load any ROM you want but be cautious of what you want out of your phone. Something that looks really nice and productive may give you horrible battery life and GPS.
That's a pretty old article. My phone was made in June 2011. Bionix is supposed to having a working GPS outright. Are you sure this isn't the case?
I remember using it and it worked. But I forgot what I did to the GPS because it was so long ago since I've used Bionix. You can look around for GPS fixes.
Hmm ok. Any advice as far as the Kernel/Voodoo is concerned?
Bali, Bullet, and Overstock are good for battery life and smoothness.
People say Bali is the best but I find that my phone overheats a lot and at times becomes unresponsive. Again, each vibrant is different in how it handles kernels. You have to try some of these yourself to see which one is best for your vibrant.
Has anyone been able to get GPS to work using a Vibrant on ATT's network?

I have a Vibrant on AT&T and other than the GPS sucking I can use it. Any way try this code.
*#*#3214789650#*#*
I tried that and it worked. Will test and get back
How do you find out what modem you are using? I can find the Kernel in About phone but the modem is not there.

Thank you my friend.
Edit: Can you make a recommendation for a good GPS modem/kernel? I'm running Bionix 1.3.1

Happy to help
I don't know about Bionix, I'm using Project V, Bali 1.8.8 kernel, KB5 modem with no issues.
I decided to try Bali 1.8.8 Kernel with KB5 modem.
I am trying to flash these using Odin. I think the KB5 goes in the Phone slot, and Bali goes in the PDA slot? When I click PDA and try to select the Bali ZIP it doesn't show up, it looks like the only file extensions available are .tar .md5 and .smd
What is a .pit, why do I need it? Where can I find one?
I'm trying to use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7152078&postcount=2 but I'm not having much success.
I like to use the thanks button
Managed to flash them using SGS flasher. Still not sure what some of this stuff means. It's fun toying though
In the future, just use Clockworks in ROM Manager to flash your kernels. I find it easier to just install from zip (zip name of your kernel). You will still have the same ROM just a different kernel.
That's exactly what I ended up doing. Battery life is terrible. But I guess I should expect it.
I have a question about voodoo. From their site it says you can get a better image, (less blue screen, not as sharp of a resolution so no halo around text, etc). Do I need to use a specific kernel for this? I thought it was an app but couldnt find it in the app store.

[Q] Need help with bad echos, on Passion v12

Hi,
I'm on ICS Passion V12 rom and I have this issue, I hope someone can advise how to solve it. Ever since I flash this ICS Passion rom, my friends start telling me that when they say something, they can hear echos back and background noises. On my end, I have no problem hearing them. I used the speaker all of the time. I believed this issue only happen when I turn on the speaker. I even lower the volume down and it's still happen.
Looking at the OP and thought this is an issue with mute/unmute so I tried it but it doesn't help. I also searched thru the forum but unable to find the answer. Is this just me with this issue? I really like this rom and hope to get this problem resolve. If you know the answer, please advise.
Thanks!

My phone does that when i turn on speaker phone also, only to the listener on the other line.
I have seen this happen on my phone as well. I have also had this problem on other non smart phones and also on the stock rom. It does seem to happen every time using the speaker phone on passion v12 though. Just last night I had it happen during normal calling (not on speaker phone) but it was only for a brief moment. The rom IS in beta so maybe it will be fixed.
Thank you for reply to my question. I went thru 950 pages last night (what a pain...hehehe) in the developer forum and found number of others are also having this issue. Some are suggesting to use V11. I probably will give that a try b/c I only use speaker for phone so I can't use phone with this issue.
Anyone know if flash to V11, do I need to do wipe, wipe, wipe before flash? I want to keep the settings and app, etc...
Any good ICS rom beside Passion?
