[Q] Atrix fingerprint reader bits - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

No, I do not own an Atrix, but I would be interested in the Android-side part of their code. Is the fingerprint reader stuff released to the public?

no.
Why would they?

this was in /system/app

Multitouch application support

Is it just me, or is application support for multitouch a bit on the scarce side? In fact, the only applications that I've noticed it work in are the browser and the photo viewer.
Is there an upcoming update expected for google maps? It's a shame the APIs for zooming didn't allow more seemless migration to multitouch.
Has multitouch been implemented by HTC or is it part of Android ?

Good question. I know it's part of the Android kernel, but I'm not sure if it's enabled on the Hero.
I saw a program which says it has multi touch (I think it's hero only until more multi touch devices are released.) http://phandroid.com/2009/09/02/nebudroid-your-android-is-now-an-nes-controller/ Looks like an interesting app, hopefully we can get more apps that have multitouch support soon
So whats the story with multitouch ? Did apple only request google not to implement multitouch back when the G1 was released, but android is ok to have it included now? or is the only way to have multitouch is to use a rom with the multitouch code uncommented?
wanted to play the air hockey game with my workmate, but my default tmobile rom doesn't have multitouch enabled. gutted
I don't think multitouch is supported by Android 1.5 "Cupcake" and that the multitouch on the Hero is implemented by HTC in the apps that uses it.
Multitouch are part of Android 1.6 "Donut" I think...

Not even Donut!! will have to wait for later Android version. Has Apple got a patent for multitouch??
thats the impression i got from googling earlier today, that apples patented it...but i find it hard to believe they could patent touching a touchscreen that recognises more than 1 finger in the first place. Patent the gestures recognition, sure... i could understand that...
but preventing me from playing air hockey with workmates when i should be doing work...thats just damn annoying.
I might patent cars that require one or two hands to be driven, or playing pocket pinball with more than 1 finger...

Err...multitouch is already there on the Hero. Have you tried zooming in and out of web pages on the stock browser?

[Q] FP Scanner

I really like the fingerprint scanner, does any rom/locker app have mutli-finger unlock navigation? Like Index=unlock middle=SMS etc etc?
AFAIK, no.
I think the underlying support library (which is AFAIK proprietary) does not allow for this functionality - I believe all you can get from it is "authorization successful" or "authorization failed", you can't know which finger was used. Maybe that's a security feature too...

RFID/NFC Cards

From my searches Dr Google has told me its not possible, but I thought I would ask anyways. Can I scan my prox badge for work using my cell phone and then use my phone to emulate that card? From what I read NFC is an offshoot of RFID, so I would think its possible.

i do not believe these will code most standard RFID badges or emulate them correctly. i put RFID reader and lock solenoids in my car so unless the proper RFID chip is near the reader, the doors will not unlock and the car will not start. i was actually looking at doing something like this with NFC and the stereo.
I just watched this video, my dreams of being able to copy the prox badge have got to be possible?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yjfc60LGjik
if they are able to proxy, I would think you could also save that data and just push it back out...that or I am fully misunderstanding how this works which is also very possible.

Optical Reader missing

I recently switched from a Sprint SGS4 to T-Mobile and an SGS5 and the first thing I noticed missing was the Optical Reader. Is it just me or everyone? What solutions are there? I miss the simplicity of the Optical Reader from the SGS4...
Here are a few links for the latest 4.6.1.0 version:

Optical Reader is available for free on Galaxy Apps. if you dont have Galaxy Apps you csn get it from Samsung's website. if i may, if you like Optical Reader why not try Barcode Scanner available via F-Droid.

thanks, unfortunately this is the same broken version that's on Galaxy Apps. on my SGS4, that version would automatically pick up QR codes and text depending what was in front of the camera. with this version it only translates text.

as mentioned above, the version on Galaxy Apps is broken... I'll give Barcode Scanner a try though, thanks.
if you're looking for a text reader then try Google Goggles. that picks up text...er sometimes lol.

Fingerprint reader and LastPass and/or other apps

Can anyone with a device confirm if the fingerprint works with LastPass and/or banking (similar) type apps?
I've read one article that states:
It’s not all good news, though. Due to the way the in-display sensor works, it’s not currently recognised by apps that would previously be unlocked by a typical fingerprint sensor. Banking apps, for example, will just default to asking you for your pin-code.

I've relied on this feature enormously for years, especially with LastPass, and would be my only hesitation not investing in this device just yet.
Hi,
I can confirm that fingerprint read works with lastpass - it does on mine

Yes it works with LastPass and any app AFAIK however, for me, the fingerprint reader is very iffy in recognising me. It reminds me of a Samsung S6 I had for a month or two and got rid of because the fingerprint reader was so poor.
I'm somewhat 'mature' and older persons fingerprints tend to be harder to read but my Mate 8 and P20 Pro were all excellent - recognition at 98% most of the time.
My banking app only allows fingerprint reader for specific phones, so unfortunately I cannot use fingerprint on the firstdirect app.
