Just a question out of interest - what is the difference between BB 2.0.52 and 2.1.54 that I'm currently at? I was wondering because many custom ROMS here at xda works best on 2.0.52.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
As I understand it the only real difference is some of the BBs use different frequencies and some of the newer ones have been tweaked a bit to improve power efficiency of the radio. The only difference you will likely notice is that different ROMs are built for different baseband versions.

I have been reading the threads on this forum, for awhile but wondering why there hasn't been kernel releases based on 2.6.32(2.2) or 2.6.35(2.3). Wouldn't it be easier to just port the drivers directly to the new kernels and the work out the features instead of working on the features with the old kernel and try to port them again later?
The devs believe .52 is the best. I wouldnt worry about basebands. It doesn't do much apart from provide the radio and sensor stuff. If you want kernels then just flash. 52. No big deal really
Update: I did skim read a little
Yes I'm with you now, its much better for updated Linux kernels for better compatibility and performance, so I agree, why not devs???

Im talking about the linux kernel that the rom is running on, not the baseband for the rom. But thanks for the reply anyways

He's talking about the android kernels, not the basebands
but a wild guess would be maybe the newer kernels aren't compatible with SE's basebands?
maybe but if they could port the 2.3 rom to the current basebands, why can't they port the baseband to the kernel? hopefully one of the devs can answer this.
They want to start with something that works. Once SE's kernel will be fully modified and working, then they can move on. Much better way forward than to jump in with a totally new kernel version.
Is there anything to these kernels for us? Could they be implemented and is anyone willing to try? I'm sure we would all agree that any improvement in battery life is a worthwhile goal, especially with all the varience of performance on froyo. I don't know the particulars & I'm not a dev but the experience some Evo people are having with these sure seems to merit investigation by someone who knows what they're doing(not me). Until today I'd never heard of these kernels & don't know if it's already been considered.

So, these new Kernels. I've waited with installing them until they were more finished and now I was wondering how people think they are compared to the stock one.
Do they contain the same features and do all of them work?
Are they faster?
Are they stable?
Good things, bad things about upgrading?
Was thinking these things would be nice to know for everybody thinking of switching
I guess you should try one out to find out. Ofcourse they are much faster, lighter and efficient than the stock kernel. Since we are using Gingerbread now mostly, these kernels provide better support for them.
If they weren't any different from the stock kernels...why do you think devs would make them? Hope you get the message.

I get the message alright, but since you have a mini and therefore have not tried the x10 mini pro kernels (which are all still quite new), it's not a fact that they are faster, lighter, more efficient or provide better support for Gingerbread.
That's why I asked for people who have tried the x10 mini pro kernels about their experiences with them. I could try it myself, but since that voids the guaranty please respect my wishes to do some research first.
one word, yes. they are better, faster, and smoother. worth doing.
I will put it this way, we had various modules to load. they are now in the kernel itself.
hardware communication is improved, and have a speed difference (very slightly i guess).
Thats all maybe.
i preffer this for mini pro phone : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256095&page=41
i use it too.. and my phone is like 40-50% faster with custom rom
custom kernel is a lot faster than stock kernel, very responsive.
about the stability is depends, the custom kernel is kind new to all of us and the dev is still developing their custom kernel, so bugs is still expected unless they mentioned it final release.
so the dev also encourage us to test the custom kernel, so if we found bugs and report it back, it will be contributions to the dev to make a better and bugs free kernel
Ive used both and they are great
Zombiepanic fixes the touch bug with the statusbar and stuff
D4kernel is also great but no more updates due to him leaving
Both are very stable. Havent had a random reboot and used D4's since release so ive had a long time of testing
Hope this helped

Use zombiepanic, standard version.. (oc version has somes bug) standard version Is too fast and stable.. !
Title says it all. Which baseband you got? Old or new? VOTE NOW!
I think that new baseband don't gives anything new..
using stock froyo so far
I don't care the baseband in use, In the moment I only want a stable rom, 2.3 with bare essencials and made from official ROM, not from CM.
Cyanogen Team is great but i miss somethings that original ROMs have (ex: making a call with headphones and hear, divx codec from scratch...)

Am using new. With 2.3 upgrade. But I dont want it. I have no wifi calling and that is the most important feature for me! Is there any way to bring my O1 back to 2.2. Froyo?

new one.....
& if old then is there any way to revert back to the same??

I'm using new one because I have better signal then the old one, try using ur phone on elevetor with old baseband
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
I see no benefits in the new baseband so why spend time working on a feature that has no benefit at all.

any baseband will do ciaox because changing baseband is so easy, not a problem with me
Old froyo baseband is the best the official has lack of functions.

I am with old baseband..bcoz the data tracker bug..is irritating me alot
New, because of better signal, no random reboots.

can someone please advise:
my dad (yes, i am not an adult, just a high school student) has no intention of getting me a data plan with internet and text messaging. just plain calling. pretty much i can go either way with the baseband right? i can still make calls as long as i apply mik's patch right? the better signal is appealing to me a lot.
sorry for the question (no one rage please ). i know that it is everywhere in the forum but i want to hear from another user rather than just the instructions
of course old baseband

yep, you are right, you can just use new baseband and apply mik's patch. I prefer also the new baseband due to better signal=better battery.
Old baseband one it works well and on top of that the only worth while ROM in the new baseband is yours open Optimus

stilll on stock froyo??the latest gingerbread ones with old baesband give upto 3x terrifying mind blowing performances!!and the roms based on new baseband dont work good with tweaks like ungaze data2sd(as far as i know) so i always prefer cm7 based old baseband roms
i have new baseband. I want to have old one, but after i bricked my phone doing old baseband stuff (i though im going to get oficial 2.2 ) i dont want to downgrade.....
Hey guys, I've been looking at updating my kernel if it was necessary.
Basically, here's my current information about my phone:
Kernel version: 2.6.32.39-MB860-CM7-g54722f1 [email protected]#4
Mod version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0.Ba2tF-Olympus
I'm would like to update the Kernel on my phone. I wasn't sure if I could just pick up any Kernel out there for the Atrix 4G. I wasn't sure if it was dependent on what Mod version you were running etc.
If someone can let me know it's ok to pick up any kernel that would work for atrix 4g or if it was dependent on the mod version and suggest any kernel that has worked for you and any others that you recommend not using.
I have updated roms but restored back because it once in a while during the day and sometimes in use would reboot...some people that I have read on the forum indicated to update the kernel would/might resolve the issue. So your suggestions and recommendation is highly appreciated. Thank you.
You can flash any of the kernels developed for CM7.
I would recommend any of fauxs kernels depending on whether or not you use OC. He has kernels ranging from 1Ghz to 1.45Ghz. All of the have been stable for me with good battery life.

Honestly ur best bet would be just to update to the newest cm7 nightley your on a really old version and kissing out on some good updates the kernel that vo.es with it is really nice or at least upgrade to the rc1 but i will also agree with the faux kernels i use the 1.45 overclock with out ant issues and live it

Agreed. Get off Ba2tF. It's not any more stable than the release candidates, in fact it is probably significantly less so. Also, tons of important updates have been made to the kernel and just about everything else.
