[Q] (REQUEST) Stock looking ROM - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone possibly make a 2.2.1 ROM that looks like stock [white] 2.2?
- Except with a percent on the stock 2.2 battery icon.
I think it would be cool.
For some reason I guess I've just been wanting something like that lately; I'm gonna try White Steel 1.2; but that still isn't exactly what I'm looking for.
So, anyone out there willing to do it? or am I the only one who would dig this?

I am getting a lot of PM's asking for some lite weight rom with stock look. I will make it once I am done with my current project in a week or 2. if no one else beats me to it.

Are you talking about a vanilla theme? I have that out. Its called smooth vanilla. I am updating this week. Everything should be good but the clock color is white. It is still visible. It is on xda right now. It is based on 2.2.1

1) Download ROM Manager (ClockWork Recovery) from the market.
2) Flash Clock Work Recovery
2b) Make a backup
3) Pick a ROM from the BIBLE in the dev section listed under the Clock Work section
4) Download it and move it to the root of the SD card
5) Boot into recovery and Install a ROM from SD
Pretty straight forward if you read thoroughly
I actually just rooted my phone! My first step on track hahaha. Ill look into the other stuff next, perhaps wait till 2.2 roms are made. Im installing mobile ap right now, or at least figuring it out.
from experience i can only comment on eugenes roms. I havent tried bionix.
Eugene if you want something lightly themed with tweaks and TW Launcher go with Eugene's Vibrant9 found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743769
If you want something more close to the "vanilla" android which means you wont have samsungs TW stuff go with his hybrid rom here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773018
He did also release a franken-twiz rom here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784142
for me the franken-twiz rom is too unstable, and some things didn't work for me, like widgets, but it also has some AWESOME features, and is also based on the latest "leaked" firmware JI2.
I use his Vibrant9 with JAC's OCv4 Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744655) and i LOVE it. very snappy and stable. There is also the "rom bible" here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111 with tons of information, you want to stick with the roms that are "flash-able .zips" IMO
As far as bricking your phone, the vibrant is very hard to fully brick, not saying it is impossible, but its hard, just read through the directions a few times and make sure you are understanding. And like ALex530 said it is up to you to find what you like, that is the beauty of Android.
I personally like Vibrant7 because well I do.
And if you want more battery life, and the touchwiz is not all that great to you, Hybrid R3 makes my battery last on average double than it did with stock or any of Eugene's other ROMs(which i have tried them all, and they all have good points with the exception of the frankin twiz, which he tweeted that he was not going to fix and just base it off a newer leak because of the issues), it basically removes allot of bloat ware(stuff that isn't needed to run the phone) and in return it makes allot less stuff running in the the background, which makes the battery last much longer. You can add stuff back into it, what I use is the TW Hybrid v3, and then I add the Sims and avatar movie back into it. But I liked both of those.
Most importantly if you are not comfortable with android I would stick to flash-able ROMs, the ones that require Odin can cause you problems if you dont know what you are doing. As long as you make a backup of your current ROM, if the flash goes wrong you can just use a Nandroid to restore and try again. I personally have flashed my Vibrant probably 60 times, but I am always trying the new thing, but lately I just use it for a day or so and then I end up going back to the Hybrid build because of the battery Life.
Well i got the whole thing down, i tried all the roms, but honestly there was nothing i really liked or found to my interest. Alot of the skins werent to my liking although i did like Frankin-Twiz, but i found Bionix to be a tad bit ugly in terms of design. Dunno i might wait till 2.2 and see what roms come out then. For now ill just probably stay rooted. I may try the roms out again and look into them more in detail.
I like the TWiz design alot, kinda grew attatched to it, and bionix made me hate it haha. Frankin wasnt bad though. Gotta just try em again.
Edit: Also Hybrid wasn't that bad either, but the TW launcher was still there? Is this to be deleted or should i just be recommended to make the other one my default?

Well I use ADW just for the fact it lets you have two quick launch buttons on the bottom of each screen on each side of the dock button and place which ever short cuts you want there, I put my phone and camera, Kinda like the TW but has 4 , and ADW has the launch dock button and 2 to equal 3 that one gives you allot of options also for themes that are free from the market. Also you can get a program called "Home Switcher" that allows you to change your default really easy and you can try them all. There is pro launcher, which is good too i just like having the quick launch options.

[THEME REQUEST] port of Captivate Gingerbread

Anyone care to take a crack at porting this to JK6? I think it looks great!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863860
I don't know if you bothered to check or not, but there's 2 gingerbread themes for the vibrant already.
EDIT: There's 3 version for Vibrant.

I did. One only changed the status bar, and the other had a drop down that looked totally different and doesn't look like any of the gingerbread drop down menus I've seen.
I also saw one for CM 6.1 but that doesn't help me either
Yeah that looks sexy...do any of the current Gingerbread ones work on Macnut 14?
Yeah this looks to be the most complete theme. Love that smooth AOSP lockscreen.
That is a beautifully ported ROM to the Captivate. I would love to see that on Vibrant! I personally am not fond of the data signal icons but hey, that's a simple change if we can get a port!
Ive got finals coming up, but I may tear this apart and see how easily it can be ported.
I got the one for cm6 and I might say it is impressive.. but if ur still not happy with these nice themes. Then I say download that and pull the framework-res.apk images and build from there...

It's not that I'm not happy with the cm6 one, but I'm not running cm6 on my phone so it doesn't work for me.

Few Questions

Hello,
I'm looking to root my phone, few things are holding me back.
I been told verizon could detect that your phone is rooted and really slow down your speeds.
I'm not sure which Rom to go with? I'm just looking for Rom nothing fancy, that will save on battery and just little better than stock, nothing really fancy. Almost want to keep current theme...
Not sure what everyone means by Sense and No Sense? Is sense that bad?
Thanks,
mike

1. They can't tell if you are rooted, for the things you are looking to do, they won't be able to. Just remember to go back to stock if you need to take the phone back for a replacement or if you need to bring it in for some reason.
2. If you like the stock look I would go with either the basic leak or BAMF.
Leak - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041514
BAMF - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057933
3. Sense is the "overlay" that HTC puts over the stock android (AOSP) look. It's not bad or good. It all depends on which look you prefer.
Those scurly bastards will never know! Read all the first-posts for each ROM in their respective threads to find out which features best suit you!

[Q] What are the top ROMs right now for the Vibrant ?

Sorry if i reposted the thread, but I've been looking around all day and im trying to find a ROM with 2.3 firmware, long battery life and something that looks really good. Any suggestions ?
CM7 is nice. Not sure about long battery life though.(wasn't good for me, but probably possible to make it better)
Bionix Next Gen, Trigger, and CM7 in no particular order. I have yet to find a 2.2.1 ROM I've been happy with.
Edit: If you want 2.3 it's definitely CM7.
i have a similar question but looking for the stock samsung skin with gingerbread, does this exist? this is for my blind dad that needs enormous text.
Yes ive tried CM7. It was alright but the battery life is horrible, and I wanna try something new

is this what you were looking for ? i flashed this and im currently running it, its pretty good i guess, but im still looking for 2.3 firmware
well cm7 is out but not stable tho. is there a particular reason for 2.3 ?

try this one. its from Team EDT.
very smooth, only thing lacking is GPS. if u can live without it, it would be the best choce for 2.3

[Q] CM7 vs OMFGB - differences?

So I've been wanting to check out upgrading my phone to AOSP GB and right now I'm looking at either CM7 or OMFGB. Only thing is, I can't really find all that much about what's different about each one to make a good decision about which one I should actually get. Can anyone help me out here?
MMS isn't working for me on OMFGB and it was working on CM7. No screen rotation for me on OMFGB. My radio would die pretty frequently on CM7 but I've been on OMFGB all day without it dying once. CM7 has more customization options.
CM7 Test build 10 is the way to go!
OMFGB is very hard to install, i couldnt get my wifi to turn on...It looks like it has cool features but i cant live with out wifi.
I also ran into an issue where i flashed the udated GAPPS and when i went into camera it would landscape and i couldnt get it back to portrait in the launcher!
Small things like that made me revert back to CM7

This too. I also get a phantom ringer on CM7 still that I haven't got on OMFGB.

omgb just came out last night...it ll take a few builds to get close to the functionality of cm7 most likely
that being said, on a level playing field (on other phones) its about what you want
cm7 is more of a feature rich aosp that sacrifices some performance (i say some as for many its negligible) for more fuctionality and tweaks
omgb is more of a pure aosp a long the lines of something straight from google, but they do add more features
being more of a purist id imagine myself preferring the latter

is the theme chooser the same in both? or does one or the other have more themes to choose from?

It's the same, both use Theme Chooser so CM7 themes will work with OMFGB.
