Startup sound - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Noob question here. Does the ed01 kernel support boot animations with sound? If not which kernels do?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk

I've been waiting for this too. AFAIK none of the available kernels support this. The last I heard, the devs needed the source to reenable this, so hopefully it will be possible soon.

That's what I had read but I thought getting a kernel with voodoo sound would fix this issue. I guess not. Well back to xda for some more reading. thanks for the info

Vibrant root and overclock help

I'm new too the whole rooting deal, but I know I want to. I already downloaded the one touch program or whatever it is. I was really just wandering about overclocking my cpu.
I've read that I will need to install a new kernel but I don't know which one. I just don't want it to change the look or operation of my phone. I like the touchwiz and everything,i just want to speed it up. Does any one know what I should do?
Also if I root will I be able to do the 2.2 update when it comes out?
Thanks for any help I can get.

As a newb myself let me try and help. First off take some time and do alot of research on rooting, flashing roms and kernals. Read, read and read. There is alot of info here. It is possible to mess your phone up if you dont know what your doing. Now thay being said...... Using ryanza root plus lag fix is probably the easiest way to root. If your hard ware locked, well thats another story. And if you want to overclock you will need a custom kernal, remember what I said about reading. Now depending on the kernal you may or may not be able to get the 2.2 when it rolls out. Just take some time and educate yourself, and for goodness sake please make nandroid before you do anything drastic.

Like greggory said, you should check to see if you are hardware locked (cannot access download and recovery modes).
To check:
1 turn off your phone
2 Hold volume + and - and power buttons
3 Keep holding until you see the vibrant screen pop up a second time. Now release ONLY the power button, still holding volume + and -.
4 Keep holding volume buttons until you get to the recovery screen. Then release.
If your phone continues to boot normally, you are hardware locked.
If you are locked, go to the Bible thread and scroll until you see the hardware locked fix. Follow the directions there.
The Bible thread should have everything you need to know about modding your phone.

Thanks alot, I will check out the bible.
And good news for me, my phone is not hardware locked.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thats good its not locked. The bible is a great tool for info. I also read some of the post by bionix , involving custom roms. Check out there website. teamwhiskey.com. Just be sure you make a backup thru rom manager in case you mess something up. This is a awesome forum with alot of knowledgable people. Unfortunately Im not one of them....
Strange.. are only a select unfortunate few vibrants hardware locked?

It looks like JAC's OC/UV kernel would be the best for overclocking. Does that sound like a good assumption?
Would that change the way phone looks or functions, in terms of regular use like touch wiz?

I like the JAC kernel and no, it won't change anything about the way your phone looks. It'll just run faster
Great. Would you suggest the regular kernel or the voodoo one?
And thanks again for all the help.

I'm still learning too, although I know I'll never really dip into programming. I use Bionix 1.9 with Jac's kernal. I did have a problem with Pandora and the media player shutting off, but after adjusting the min mhz to 400, it hasn't frozen yet. I love this stuff. I just wish I could get an asnwer on how to flash some of the mods in the other forum like the clear notification bar. I posted in Q&A and never got a response. Too bad. I can't contribute, but I would still like to learn.....
So you haven't had any of the lag problems?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Ok, I guess I'm going with bionix 1.9 with JAC OC/UV voodoo. That sounds like a good tried and tested way to go.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
What is the difference between bionix 1.9 w/Jac's OC/UV kernel 1.1 and bionix 1.9 w/Jac's OC/UV/Voodoo kernel 1.1?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The voodoo kernel has the voodoo lag fix already in it. If im not mistaken.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Alright. Now I think I'm going to use bionix fusion 1.1. Do I need to flash that before or after JAC's voodoo kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
so the stock kernel isn't that good?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
From what I've read the voodoo kernel just has the added lag fix to speed up your phone more.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So is there any order to needing to flash bionix fusion and JACs OC/UV Voodoo?

[Q] Voodoo Sound

Just wondering if anybody has heard any news about voodoo sound for our fascinates is gonna come through, also im on super clean2.6 eb16 voodoo, I tried setting up bln but its not supportes by sc... Any roms available that actually do? Ive spent some time looking but no such luck...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
If you would have searched and read, you would have found that voodoo sound and bln aren't going to work until source is available...
And for the likely follow up question, source isn't likely to be available until right around the time 2.2 is officially released.

Yeah I gathered that so far but, my question was to those that arent arrogant but to those that might be able to contribute usefully up to date info...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
That's about as up to date as it gets. No source code = no true custom kernels = no voodoo sound.

No one can give a date for source until Samsung and/or Verizon give us a date for the official update release. If anyone had a date, I'm sure it would be all over the place...

It alters the codec(s) that are used to process audio going through the sound chipset in the phone to make it sound better.

Voodoo sound is, to me, the best part of voodoo. The audio hardware in the galaxy s is fantastic, the samsung driver for that hardware, not do much. Voodoo sound corrects that issue

rVoix question

is there a working version of this app for the thunderbolt? thanks in advance
Not yet.
Even if there was, there are almost no kernels that support it.
Mine does.
Yeah. I'm using your latest kernel and I can't seem to find a working app to do 2 way call recording. Any help? Thank you

Its in my rom. CallRecorder.apk.

[Q] Anyone figure out how to change the splashscreen?

The title says it all. Will this be possible on this device?

Yes, don't know how. But yes. The phone is completely unlocked.

Not trying to derail the thread, but Chaotic, what are you using to overclock your GN2? Have you noticed any stability issues or any less battery life? I'm running the same rom and am thinking about OC-ing.
I have wondered the same thing if this phone is unlocked shouldn't we be able to flash .img files via fast boot like on gnex? I am sure the answer is no because someone would have mentioned it. But I have also wondered this as well.

Flash the Perseus kernel. It comes with STweaks (places it in your app drawer) and then you can bump the cpu up if you want to. I've had no probs running at 1.8
Isn't it located somewhere in the kernel like the boot ani?

Its in the param partition I believe. Been looking into altering it. No luck so far. Pretty sure its possible though

Has anyone tried this kernel yet?

I saw this but was afraid to flash it yet but wondering if anyone here has tried it yet and what their experience was with it

A few folks have. I personally have not but I have it d/l.
Hoping Saber and Faux port their kernels eventually.
It's safe
Yes ive used it for a day and I like it so far.
I just flashed it and nothing has exploded yet! So far so good ;-p It seems snappy, it's quite "minimal" as he said. I haven't been able to alter governors/IO schedulers but I'd be a betting man and say this would significantly increase battery life
Works great. Does anyone know if 0.9 will work on MJ4?

Flashed and it's working no problem. If anything I'll report back. Thanks for finding this.

Yes i flashed it using Jellybomb Ver 1.0 MI5 overclocked to 2.7 and undervolted -50mv with system tuner so far its stable
I've been using it, since the OP made us Sprint folks aware of it. I haven't had any problems at all. The developer updates frequently, and now that I've started experimenting with the color temperature, the screen colors seem a lot more natural-- not so Samsung cartooney.
