[Q] From ED01 to Community ROM? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are the downloads that make up Community ROM flashed w/Odin or sent to phone via usb to sdcard and flashed w/CWM? Phone is currently at ED01, can I simply flash Community ROM or must I go back to stock?
Thanks in advance for your help!

If your rooted and have CWM installed simply boot to recovery and wipe data/cache and dalvik cache and flash the rom via recovery. Download the rom via your phone to your sdcard.

[Q] ROM flashing process overly complicated. Am I doing something wrong?

Hey folks. I'm not entirely new to ROM flashing. I've been flashing numerous ROMs on my Diamond, TouchPro2, and Desire. The actual steps and tools are different but the basic principle remain the same. It's just wipe and flash.
But on the SGS2, the process is getting on my nerves. If I simply do a wipe and flash, I ALWAYS get boot loops. I always have to go through the following steps:
1. Wipe and flash stock ROM via ODIN
2. Flash CF-Root via ODIN
3. Boot the device to the setup wizard.
4. Flash "abc" ROM via CWM or ODIN
Is this actually what all you SGS2 ROM flashing veterans do? Or am I doing something wrong?
Also if I'm on a custom ROM, I can't even do a hard reset without encountering boot loops. I'd have to go through those 4 steps again. It's driving me insane...
Don't wipe through recovery. Format through settings.

This doesn't seem to work either. I was just on Lightning ROM and I did a hard reset by going to "Settings > Privacy". That resulted in boot loops...
As of this moment, I just can't seem to figure out how to flash ROMs or hard reset without being at my PC. Does everybody else always rely on their PC for their ROM flashing needs?
Hmm...something seems wrong here. Here is what I do and normally don't have any issues.
1. Reboot into recovery.
2. Wipe data/factory reset.
3. Wipe dalvik cache.
4. Format system.
5. Install the downloaded rom from sdcard OR go to download mode and flash thru odin depending on zip file or odin file.

For a clean phone i format phone through windows . In recovery format system data and sd card .
Should be no problems left on phone .
Install stock rom via Odin followed by cwm and root copy custom rom to sd card and flash .

I know how to get out of bootloops. The question is, how do I flash ROMs without the PC (ie, without having to flash back to stock rom via Odin)?

The instructions for the rom may require you to have a stock rom or not depends upon what the rom builder decides .Some require custom through Odin other via CWM.Most are CWM flashes and do not mention stock rom at all .

Unable to flash ANY custom ROMs?

I can't seem to flash any of the custom ROMs and get them to run, they all hang at the bootloader (it says unlocked at the time)
I'm on rooted, unlocked, stock 2.3.4, and I've tried all the major ROMs multiple times (I'm positive they flashed correctly, and I've tried clearing/not clearing both caches, etc.) but I can backup and restore from CWM just fine
I couldn't find anything like this for the photon, but I feel like I'm overlooking something very simple
If it hangs pull battery, put back in press pwr+vol down, go to android recovery (by pressing down till you see it) then press vol up. Once I recovery wipe system/data and reboot.
See if that works.

maybe try to go back to complete stock and start over again
I've done both of those things
No luck
What is your cwm version? Try to use the latest on Joker's cm9 site.

5.0.2.8 doesn't work to flash roms. You need either romracers cwm (5.0.2.7) or jokers v3. Jokers is a zip that you can flash from 5.0.2.8, then hit reboot recovery and you're set.

Hmm
Format data/ factory reset
wipe cache
go to advanced menu
wipe dalvik
go back
Install zip from sd (internal or external)
Also... you need to know if your current kernel version works for the rom you're trying to flash!!!!
MUUUCH CREDIT TO JOKERSAX KERNEL VERSIONS!!!!!!!
LOOK FOR VERSION 1.3
Also.. look for the Rocko 2.0 rom... works on my mopho..

if u root your phone using odin for the first time you should have cwm installed on your device. if yes then u can install developed roms / rooted roms on your phone. you can find diff roms on galaxys2roms.com
for installin a new rom on a rooted phone check the rom website(whichever rom u wish to install) there will be steps.
normally those will be like this (for rootrd fones)
1.download the rom ( zip file)
2.place it on your external sd
3.open cwm and reboot to recovery mode or Power off your phone and go to CWM Recovery
4.Wipe Data and Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache
5. Select install zip from SD card and select Rom
6. Fix Permission (if coming from higher/older Android version)
7. Reboot your phone

[Q] How can I install CM10 when CleanRom is installed?

I bought an S3 today that was already rooted with CleanRom 5.5.1 installed. I am wanting to install CM10. What are the steps I need in order to do so?
I will make it simple.
1. Check out the recovery, in your case I think 3rd part recovery should be already installed, if not, install one.
2. Wipe data / cache, format /system partition in recovery
3. Flash the ROM you want via recovery or Odin.
4. Reboot, done

Boot into recovery and the recovery version should be at top.
If you want to install CM go to their site or thread and read fully the installation instructions.
Check first is your device even i9300, if not change to your own s3 variant forum... I dont think CleanRom is for i9300..

Going from one ROM to another

I'm looking to switch from the latest CM11 nightly to AOKP can I just flash the new ROM from recovery using the same steps I did to flash CM? Or do I have to flash my rooted stock kitkat ROM in order to go to AOKP?

I assume you have a nexus5 from your Sig, if so take these steps
Copy new ROM + gapps to SD
Reboot to recovery
Do a nandroid backup
Do a factory reset (as in wipe all but internal SD - so no extra data wipe)
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot - profit!
If you want to wipe all, which can be nice
You will need to use adb sideload to install ROM, this isn't hard and what I do most often as I'm ocd when it comes to a clean wipe, just be sure to backup all data from SD to PC first!
Happy flashing!
