Good point. That or ..
Original Eclair dialer would make this phone much better..
Would be great to disable this damn light sensor. I don't understand why can't we disable it to the hell out??
The light sensor seams to be OAM apk, so maybe removing them would disable light sensor... I didn't try yet, so if someone try, let us know if it works.
Where is it?
I did a misstake : it's not OAM but OMA.
And i think to remember that there were 2 OMA apk in system/app folder
i have install "quick settings" and there is an option to turn on/off light sensor
I installed it but I don't manage to find the option

Disable Light Sensor
I made it. now here the instruction:
1- download attach
2 - unpack it
3 - copy to the phone /etc/
4 - chmod 777
5 - reboot the phone
Thats all, you don't see work of this sensor.
Ok, it works at 100%. But... Ekhm... brightness is just crazy now xd I think I prefered old settings ;p. I'll try it tommorow.
Thanks.

This doesn't work for me... I have 2.1-update1, latest pre-rooted Chinese firmware...
When I try to run it from adb it says something about /sys/... directory - "directory nonexistent", that it couldn't be created...
It's working now, I did it from xRecovery
Thanks, it's great... and just like hugerth says, brightness is CRAZY!!!
new version of Light Sensor Disable
i made a new version. it's got a normal bright and decrease a power consumption (i hope)
Can you write a small description on those changes, what does what ?
i write it in my post
Hi, all.
Could someone enlighten me a bit, what exactly do the light sensor do, and what would be the advantage (and disadvantage) of turning it off?
Cheers.
The light sensor is what detects ambient light around the phone and automatically adjusts screen brightness to torch your eyes out.
I try to make led notification for MIUI and I have tested in my streak and
it work.....
When you get any notification, your softkey led will blink until you turn on screen...
(for MIUI rom only)
Just flash zip in streakmod recovery and reboot
and dont forget to disable notification led in
menu/setting/personal/trackball/

What? I'm on 2.3.2 with that MIUI232FIXen.zip fix you released. I just set the led lights to 0 because the stay on. I have MIUI set to automatic brightness- should I disable automatic brightness?
I think you said 2.2.17 has that issue right? Only thing not working for me is the led lights- I have them disabled- Is there some way they can be on without being on all the time in 2.3.2? Does this mod work with your MIUI232FIXen.zip? I didn't apply it because I thought it might conflict with MIUI232FIXen.
Only things left to fix-
led notification
led lights on all the time instead of on when the screen is on
(wifi tethering- although I don't really use that)

Think you passed each other once you flash blinking led fix you need to turn off automatic brightness. Will tell you every now and than, leds stay on just tap power button and it fixes it.
Just flash blinking mod for miui from me,disable setting trackball and auto brightness
And everything about led gonna be okay....

the button liagts stay on in miui 232
i think that is not a bug
it is just a different way of working
not with touch
but with auto brightness
if someone wants to make button lights work as we used to
he can flash my fix (miuifix,or miui232fixen,or blinking_mod_m) first
go into the auto brightness setting once
and flash my 2217.zip (or blinking_mod) back
if you were using 232
you don't need my fix
just go into setting once and flash blinging_mod

am very sorry buddy... would have love to help but i dont know why, i also experience such!
I found this:

Re: keyboard backlight on white mini pro (sk17i) is too low and makes the keyboard unreadable under certain light condition
I finally found this for you all. You can on or off the keyboard backlight manually but only when the the keyboard is in slide out position.
And the setting resets when you slide in the keyboard.
As I am using Scriptmanager (https://market.android.com/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager&feature=search_result) anyway I made 2 oneliners besides the shebang that echo either 0 or 100 into the node called
liteon.sh (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43327644/liteon.sh)
and
liteoff.sh (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43327644/liteoff.sh)
put the scripts into sdcard, start scriptmanager, choose liteon.sh and check run as root and save
Do this either way with liteoff.sh
Go to your Mangos Homescreen, add a widget, choose Script Manager and choose liteon.sh and in the next step liteoff.sh
You´ll have to Widgets, one puts light on, on off.
This is of course a workaround an will be implemented into lights module. Fxp knows about the fact already.

No solution, but I tap the spacebar instead
I have the Xperia MiniPro U.S. version with Gingerbread, and also find the short timeframe of the keyboard backlight really annoying, especially when trying to use the keyboard at night in a low light setting...
It seems a bit odd to me that the OS has setting for the screen backlighting duration, but not for the keyboard backlighting...
I'm not enough of a geek to try the scripting approach mentioned above. So as a common man's solution, I've ended up simply tapping the space bar key every time I'm typing and the lighting goes out...
I wonder if the promised Sony ICS OS release for the 2011 Xperia MiniPro models will include a feature fix for the absent keyboard backlight setting???

hey man, first make sure if the rom only opens the keyboard lights in dark places because some roms make that happen to save battery.
Second, a trick that i use and find out myself ( so i don't know if it will work for you ) without any app is this: with screen blocked, slide the keyboard, the lights will open, after that the lights will always open when you slide the keyboard .
If i helped press thanks , good luck .

It doesn't work. It doesn't on even in the dark or night..But thanks for answering.
Other solutions??
yes yes yes, you should take care of your flex. just here on a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935124
And about the lights, on some rom the KbFix isn't working. try it to MiniCM10 and the lights will work properly without the KbFix.
Well, i think that you could try: search files ( in the winrar of the rom ) in the other roms that are working and put those files on your rom, if that doesn't work you only have 2 choices: a Fix ( but like you say, it's more battery draining ), or install a rom that is working on that, stark v3 is working on that so give it a try .

It`s true. Firstly my proxymity sensor stoped working. After that display was in 2 partions. Status-bar was at the bottom of the screen. Also my phone was unable to boot. It was always rebooting at the start. after disassembly i saw broken flex cable. now i am waiting for replacement parts.
can i permanently turn off the buttons backlight on my xperia mini pro ?
I change the value in "max_current" file ( sys > class > leds > button-backlights ) from 500 to 1 and work !
But when i restart the phone i have to change the value again...
How can I turn it off permanently?
Sorry for my very bad english, and sorry if i write in the wrong section
Use screen filter. Much easier. No tension.
Press the "thanks", button if I helped you.
