[Q] using ext3 partition with original rom - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hello, I have been reeding this forum a lot latly finding some usefull informations.
But I can't find answer to one question.
Can we install apps to the ext3 partition without changing the original rom?
I actually have android 2.2.2 from LG and I'm ok with it, would like stick with it, but I'd like to use an ext3 partition to feel free install more apps.
I'm going to do the root procedure right now fo the first time using this method.
What to do next?
Waiting for a feedback, thanx in advice.

How to store apps on Sd card

Hi everyone,
I have root and the latest Modaco ROM which I'm well please with. However, I would like to be able to store apps on my SD card, am I right in thinking the latest ROM is embedded with this facility? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Am a Noobie, go easy with me.
Cheers
The Modaco Custom Rom (MCR 2.0) has inbuilt Auto Aps2SD, but it requires you to create an EXT3 Linux partition on your SD Card before you flash the Rom
There's an easy walkthrough here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4416361&postcount=117 with some methods of creating EXT3 Partition.

Thanks Dazy
Assuming to get to this stage I've already flashed the ROM.
I don't mean to be thick but when you say "before you flash the Rom" does that mean I need to reflash my ROM?
cheers
of course theres also the opportunity to have apps2sd (a2sd) without that modaco rom (fortunately)
just search a lil bit via google for a2sd and use the help Dayzee provided, thats really very easy!
greetz
thanks, i'll give it a shot
oh..........I am already using the new custom ROM which has the apps2sd inbuilt?

App2sd program

Hello all, please dont hate the noob. I have been reading through a lot of tutorials about app2sd, and most mention having to create an ext2 parition, and sometime a ext3 parition. Now I have installed modacos newist hero rom, on my hero, and I think app2sd is installed by default, but how do I go about using it. I have just moved from an Iphone, so please give me a break.
Also, can I view trailers from the apple website in the hero's browser.
With regard to the ext2, I am running windows 7, and have no knowledge of creating linux paritions. Also most of the tutorials mention opening a console in recovery mode, I dont have a clue how to do this.
Cheers in advance.
As you are already rooted?!

Beware you will loose all the data on youre sd-card. After partioning youre sd-card perform the flash again after doing a wipe. Youre Hero will be nice and fresh from that moment on.

Personally, I would necessarily rush to install AppsToSD, especially if you're a noob. You can install an awful lot of apps on the phone without having to resort to this, and if and when you get to that point you can do it then.
Regards,
Dave
Cheers for the replies. I do have a rooted phone, but I think leaving it until I have downloaded enough apps to fill the space on the hero.
Cheers again

[Q] Help with apps2sd!!!

hi everyone i just flashed with devoid.franco.
and then i flashed the apps2sd by dark tremor.
i made a 1024 mb ext partition.
the thing that i would like to know is how apps2sd works.
does it by default install the apps in ext partition??
or do i need to enter some commands in the terminal!!!
I'd like to know too.
I installed it according to the instructions, but it would be nice to have some way to know if it's being actually used...
i read somewhere that a person had to make his own custom rom to make it work..!!

[Q] Ext partiton and apps

Hi guys,
I have a question regarding installed apps on EXT partition. I understand how it works, but what I want to know is if I were to flash to a new custom rom, would I still be able to see the apps I installed on that EXT partition?
I ask this because I've been flashing new roms a lot recently and it's becoming a hassle to reinstall all my apps over and over again. I've looked up ways to make this process easier or perhaps automated, but they aren't really helpful.
So after doing some research about how EXT partition works on Android, I thought maybe this might work.
By the way, I already have Titanium Backup installed but I'm looking for an easier method than that. I want to simply install all my applications and its application data in one go, like flashing a .zip file from the recovery or something like that. Just simple and straightforward.
And I would like to do this on any rom, not just between different versions of the same rom made by the same developer.

[Q] Stupid question: Move appdata to extsd (directorybind / link2sd don't work!)

Hello everyone,
I've (CF) rooted my S3 only to move app data to my extSD card. The official stock firmware (JB 4.1.1) is still on it, and i would like to keep it that way (serves me good). I've tried directory bind and Link2SD.
Both of the apps don't work (or i'm to much of a noob to get it going)!
Directory bind just moves files from one location, but when i start the app, it gives me a error (in this case, tomtom).
Also the alternative management options in this app, dont give me tools to "bind".
Link2SD makes links (on the second partition of the ext.sd) but doesn't want to move the app data to the first partition of the ext.sd The error is "insufficient storage space", but there is over 27gb of (fat32) free space. The second extsd partition is 2gb of ext4.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the official stock FW just not up to the task?
Greetings, RedKingCrab
apps to ext sd
Ho Bro,
i have the same problem, but as i know this is some new bull**** in the System or maybe just on Samsung devices.
The only app wich is more ore less useful is the "GL to SD"..

Thanks for the tip!
It seems that some versions are not well supported yet. Maybe in a couple of monts it will. I'll try again later on, including GL to SD.
So i've unrooted my S3 allready, because rooting it gave me troubles installing manual apps!
If I manualy wanted to install a apk file, i got an error (not enough memory )

Did you manage to figure this out?
Were you creating both partitions as primary?
What app did you wind up using: Link2SD or GLtoSD?
cheers

Sorry bro, didn't get it to work on stock fw.
Because of time issues i haven't been able to figure this problem out. I've unrooted the phone and flashed back with original stock.
Maybe its the way you created your partitions.
Try this link if you ever decide to go back and experiment:

Just use directory bind apk search here in xda this works perfectly for s3
