Help w/ deleting mass amt of sms

Hi All,
I have an sms thread that's ~5000 texts (sad, I know), and I get a force close every time I try to delete. I've read about clicking "wait" when the force close message appears, and I've done that but it hasn't helped.
I've also searched through XDA and found a post in a Hero G2 Touch forum (I can't post a link because I'm new). There was a code posted to put in the command prompt, but it's not working for me. Here's the code:
mkdir c:\temp
adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db c:\temp (this will backup the database to your computer at c:\temp, just in case)
adb remount
adb shell
rm /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
reboot
Can anyone please help?
Thank you!

Just read that it is the one thread that is over 5000. Thats a lot ridiculous, i dont think a lot of the people on here have ever tried to delete that many text from an eris. I honestly have no idea aside from backing up your stuff and factory resetting it.
Dang. I didn't realize Eris couldn't store the texts... I guess I'm just going to delete a few when I get time each day because I don't want to take a chance and screw it up by resetting it. It's a work phone...

it can store the texts just 5,000 in one thread is a little excessive and i think you could agree
there is an app on the market called sms delete or something, just search for it, it cleans up old sms's based on how old they are. takes a while, but it works.

I have. Mainly because I've got a girlfriend that I don't see every day, a boring job, and I'm used to not having to delete texts (since I had an iPhone for so many years).
SMS quick delete and all variants DO NOT GET RID OF THE PROBLEM. Those programs will force close just like handcent, chomp, and the stock messaging apps will. Do a factory reset, and just delete your threads before they get too far over 100 texts. Yeah, its a pain in the ass, but I can tell you that my Eris runs SO much smoother without a 5000 thread of texts sitting around...
and as far as the Eris and holding texts goes, it starts getting buggy with 150+ in a single thread. something about the Eris not allocating memory properly or something, and just completely ****ting the bed. or at least thats what I gathered from googling the problem.
Yes, I agree 5000+ is a little excessive, but similar to bill d's situation, I have a boyfriend who's 2000 mi away right now in a place with sketch service, so we text more than we talk on the phone.
I found a program "SMS cleaner free" (I can't pay for any apps b/c this is a work-issued phone) that doesn't work completely (it still FCs here and there), but has come the closest to being better than deleting each text one-by-one or compeltely resetting my phone. But, sms cleaner allows for me to delete texts with certain words in them so I search for mildly common words like "we", "me", etc which come back with ~400-800 entries and delete those groups. I'm down to 3600 texts now.
I'll get there eventually. Thanks for the help guys.

[Q] Phone Forgot Unlock Code?

Okay, I know this is going to sound more awkward by the time I explain it, but I assure you that I am pretty lost here.
I set a numeric password on my phone, as I do with most of my stuff, so if something happens to it, my personal info doesn't get obtained so easily. Anyways, today I woke up and used my phone a bit and it was alright, but it restarted and when it came back to XDAndroid again, I tried to unlock it, but the phone wouldn't unlock, which I found as odd. I retyped the password about 10 different times, to avail. I know I didn't mess it up when I entered it in, because I was unlocking it just fine earlier. Any chance this could be a bug or something?
Might have to blast out data.img.
I haven't set any such lock, so no clue if it is a bug or something else...

Its the first time it's ever happened to me, so I thought i'd throw it out there and see if anyone knew anything about it, though I figured i'd be relying on making a new data.img, unless I wanted to get fancy and edit the data.img to find the unlock code, but that would just be no fun.
Thank you for Titanium Backup

Heh, indeed.
It's a crappy workaround to get the phone working again. I doubt it's a bug, I'm betting something else is going on. No clue tho, let me know if you figure out a way to reproduce it!

Well it happened from the phone resetting itself after being dropped, so I don't know exactly such a way to reproduce it except by randomly resetting the phone by unmean means, but will most definitely does.
I had something similar happen to me quite a few times before I realized I was using Titanium Backup to restore previous settings, it would restore the unlock code but it wouldn't take affect until after a reboot. By the time I rebooted I forgot I had just restored from a backup.

That still wouldn't make a difference, because I've used the same password even from backups, so it wouldn't change regardless. I've rebooted quite a few times, still haven't deleted the data.img because I had some stuff I need to get off beforehand, but have no way of retrieving it if I am locked out of my phone.
perhaps somehow in some strange way the unlock code was corrupted, do you still have a copy of the data.img?

Yeah, it's on my PC somewhere. I backed it up because there was stuff on it I never got to take off.
if you would like to investigate further, try to find a data.img editor or you might even be able to use a hex editor to search for your lock number, if your can find it, something weird is going on, if you can't it probably got corrupted or it is encrypted. I have no idea how the code is stored, otherwise I'd be glad to help further

I would honestly hope for security sake that the PIN code isn't stored in clear text .

Same here. If only Android worked like Windows Mobile where I could just use a registry editor on it... :X

I'm no expert. But I suspect that this issue could be caused by a bloatware app that is necessary for that action but was moved. Did you manually remove your bloat or did you use a ROM to do it for you?

that is possible.....I really didn't delete bloatware apps...just renamed a few.....do you know which bloatware app controls this function so I can check?

I would THINK the safest bet for you is to back up your current apps with titanium and then back up your current ROM in nandroid and re-flash. I mean its a simple solution and requires a bit of time but unless you know exactly what you are looking for (and I am sure someone could tell you on this website) then you are more likely to cause more harm to your phone.
Sorry I can't be more help.
edit: also renamed, deleted, moved the apps. Pretty much all the same thing. The phone is looking for something and is not finding it where it should be. At least this is what I assume gleaning off the error you posted.

I can do all that......but..even if I backup my current rom and apps with titanium.....the program that I renamed will still be there......don't think a fresh download of Perfect Storm will help..
thank you very much for helping!!
Voice search. Doesn't that control it?
I pretty much deleted everything
Im,news,wheather,stocks,Widgets(that are unnecessary)
I think the probably is. The fact that renamed them. And the system cannot find the name. System tells the user basically I cannot find the other file. Thats my hypothesis.

[Q] Contacts, WIFI, titanium backup, and other questions...

Running CM 6.1.3 v006.
First off, titanium backup is a REALLY REALLY misleading tool. Uninstall means "fugeddaboutit", I had to restore my whole ROM because you can't restore stuff you uninstall, which makes the whole point of a backup moot....
1) So, all this fun later, everything is working great, except I cannot ADD contacts...well, I kind of can, they just don't show up in my phonebook. It says "contact added", their name is next to the number, but they don't show up in the phonebook like they used to. I unfroze all the apps I had frozen and it works fine now...so I'm just trying to pinpoint which app it was that caused the problem.
IT was NOT infiniteview or SMS, but maybe someone else has had this and can help so I don't have to try 1 by 1?
2) How can I tell if I have the CM 6.1.3 v006 hotfix? I had a stock v006 rom, backuped in xRecovery, installed the hotfix, screwed up my system with titanium backup, then restored the stock 6.1.3 ROM. Then, I installed the hotfix again, and after a few reboots installed it again (don't ask). Have I screwed anything up? How can I check that I have all the hotfix files and no duplicates clogging up my system?
3) Sometimes, on some WIFI connections, my WIFI disconnects after a random period of time. Is this some feature that is putting my phone into deep sleep or something? It happens randomly only on some WIFI connections...
4) Can I freeze and uninstall spare parts without any worry? It doesn't seem to do anything for me, but is that the only thing governing the CPU? I like the underclock it provides, but does stock CM 6.1.3 v006 provide it even if I turn off spare parts?
Lastly, a fun little issue. I have a picture that is panoramic...but I can't seem to make it my wallpaper because it only scrolls 10% or so per home screen, not 100%. Is there a way to change this?
THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS!!! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
TB works just fine and isn't misleading at all. If you want to restore something after you uninstall you first need to BACK IT UP, hence the name Titanium Backup and not "Magic Restorer of all Apps you Deleted!".
Spare parts is just a settings menu and has nothing to do with your CPU scaling/voltage.
If you installed the hotfix then you have it. All your issues are your own fault and if you would simply read the instructions and actually follow them step by step you wouldn't be having any troubles.

Actually, not. It's well known that you should freeze apps instead of uninstalling them...because there is no way to re-install them. I have backed up everything and it did not want to restore after an uninstall. Try it!

I did follow everything step-by-step, but when it comes to things like performing a restore, it helps to know if I need to clear cache again, etc.
Regarding the contact and wifi problems...yes they are my fault, perhaps, but that doesn't mean that someone else can't help me solve them instead of acting like a ****. I've searched a lot for the contact problem I have and have found nothing, but someone who had the same problem before me can easily say "hey, this is the issue, just unfreeze _____".
Follow-up:
I had some free time so I tried apps 1-by-1 and the culprit was "contact sync", the google app. With it frozen I could not add contacts, but unfrozen was perfectly fine!
My advice: do not freeze/remove it.
You can also add contact on google website if you are synching

How do I restore photos from Google+

I did a factory reset (before I sent my Tab for the Newton Rings repair). In the past when I did a factory reset I checked the box to do a restore from Google after I log in. Well, that takes a while since it wants to restore about 150 apps. But it also restored all my photos from Google+.
This time, however, I chose not to check that box so it didn't restore those 150 apps. I want to start fresh, as it were.
However, because that box wasn't checked I no longer have my photos from Google+ in my Gallery.
How do I get the photos back on the Tab from Google+ without downloading them one by one? Do I need to redo the factory reset?
Is the wrong audience for this question? Where else should I ask it?
I'd say it's the right place to ask the question, but maybe people simply don't know the answer (I sure don't ).
Would be helpful for other people to post the answer here if you find it somewhere else though
Best of luck in finding your answer!
