does 1.83 OTA have firmware journaling? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious if the 1.83 OTA update enacts the journaling where it won't allow you to flash back to 1.26 or 1.57. Has it been confirmed whether 1.83 OTA allows or restricts reverting to previous firmwares?

I have successfully gone from 1.83 SBF ginger 3.0 gingerbroke, back to 1.2.6 then OTA to 1.57 and OTA 1.83, I have done this 3 times already with no consequences or issues. Currently on 1.83, Gingerbreak, Tether etc. All is well. I have used both the RSD method using provided links before official release of 1.83, as well as the current OTA. I just can stop playing with this phone lol.

This is exactly what I was wondering. I remember reading, pre-1.83 release that you would not be able to flash back to stock once the 1.83 update had been applied due to the firmware journaling that the 1.83 put in place. I've been reluctant to upgrade to 1.83 for that very reason. Are there others out there who have successfully 1.26 sbf flashed a 1.83 version phone?

Im not sure If anyone has had any issues, but i scour this forum daily while at work lol, and im pretty sure if it was an issue it would be on the top of every Atrix thread. I have flashed back to 1.26 from 1.83 3 times. I wanted to see if the official OTA ran any different from the SBF that went live on the 29th because i couldn't find an answer so i took the risk and tried it. First try worked perfectly. I then went back to SBF 1.83 to test again to see if anything was different. Far as i could tell the OTA official release seems to scroll menus better and just seems to be a little more fluid. I STRESS!!! I DO NOT have technical data to back this up, Just my opinion. I dont want start a snowball effect of people flashing there device back to stock thinking OTA 1.83 is better lol.

I flashed back to 1.26 from 1.83 successfully last night. I then OTA'd my way back to 1.83. (One thing, however, after my phone installed the 1.57 OTA, it wouldn't boot back up. It just said failed to boot and went to RSD mode. I then flashed the 1.57 sbf and that went well. I then OTA'd to 1.83 and all is well)

[Q] 1.5.7 and 1.8.3 SBF

These are actually two questions for when 1.8.3 comes out, taking into account that once installed you cannot downgrade to 1.2.6 or 1.5.7.
1. Is there a reliable 1.5.7 SBF out there? What happens when I soft-brick my phone and need to run RSDLite? I know I can install 1.2.6 but I won't be able to update unless from System Update I download in which case I'll get 1.8.3 for good.
2. What if I decided to upgrade 1.8.3. How will I be able to reflash using RSDLite? Is my only choice to wait until someone comes up with a leaked 1.8.3 SBF?
Thanks
1.8.3 sbf is already out there
if you flash back to the sbf do you lose all your root priviliges?
Yes but just use gingerbreak to re-root. You need an external sd, easy as pie.

1.83 sbf or factory reset

Does it make a difference if I do a factory reset or flash 1.83 sbf with rsd lite 5.0? I am currently rooted on 1.83 gingerblur 3.5 and wanted to try and clean up some issues and start from scratch. Also is there a full 1.83 sbf to use or is it just an update. After the factory reset or flash I do plan to re-root with gingerbreak and re-install gingerblur 4.5. Any suggestions on which method is preferred is appreciated.
Thanks

Flash the 4.1.57 sbf, then OTA back to 4.1.83.
Thanks for the help
Will my phone automatically prompt for the OTA update after I flash 1.57 and where is best place to download 1.57 sbf gitibrew? Also I'm on AT&T not sure if that matters with the SBF or not.
Thanks again

Yup, Gitbrew is the place to get it.
4.1.57 is for AT&T.
After you flash and set up your Motoblur account again, go to Settings > About phone > System updates
You will then get the prompt to download 4.1.83, then install it.

[Q] Back to stock

So I have my phone unlocked and rooted. If I have to return my phone for whatever reason, how do I get "Unlocked" to remove from the boot screen? Is that even possible? Currently running 4.5.91
When you SBF back to 1.2.6 or 157 or 183 it will remove it but if you used
the OTA then DONT FLASH A SBF!
Read Around there is a bunch of stuff on the dev fourms on how to go back
the proper way please I stress read read and read again before you do anything.
Ya I definitely know not to sbf to an older since I did the OTA update. Can I safely sbf to the official 4.5.91 release?

Read through both threads. Still unsure if it's safe to flash either SBF and if it's going to remove "Unlock" during the boot. Right now I'm on the OTA update (so can't downgrade) and unlocked.

the first SBF (the 4.5.91 with pudding baked in) definitely won't take out Unlock since it's with unlock in there already.
Stock SBF can potentially take out "Unlock", but I don't think anyone's determined whether it is safe to flash stock 4.5.91 sbf once you're OTA'd. I'm not planning to try : )

Thanks for the input. Well, so far I've read that I can't downgrade. Not sure if flashing the stock 4.5.91 sbf is considered a downgrade. I'm thinking not. Maybe I'll try and see what happens.

question after unlocking

I just unlocked my atrix and I'm still on 1.83, if I OTA to 2.3.4 am I going to have problems?
Not unless you rsd back to an earlier firmware. Then you will hardbrick. You can still flash earlier firmwares via CWM.

That's all I need to know. I want to install alien at a later time but for now I just want to OTA to gingerbread. I have read about bricking if going back to an earlier version.

Out of the loop, help?

Hey Everyone,
It seems that since the bootloader got unlocked, things with the atrix has skyrocketed and there is many things I'm unfamiliar with. I was unfamiliar back then too but managed to get a pseudo rom running.
Anyways, I need help going from a Greyblurred atrix to an updated Atrix with gingerbread , unlocked bootloader , and rooted.
It would be great if anyone could point me in the right direction.\
Thanks ahead of time!
Well I am assuming you are not unlocked, correct? also I will assume you have not done the OTA (Over The Air) update of gingerbread (2.3.5)..
First off, if none of the above has been done at all you need to go here, IHOP and read these directions over, and over, and over before you start to follow them and execute what they say..
after you do that, or if you need further clarification just write back here
I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871 its an auto scripter u will soft brick fix is built in READ EVERYTHING first. Mine actually froze rite after brick and wouldnt allow me to follow instructions exactly,if it happens to u dont freak.just pull battery for a few moments reboot into fastboot and use the fix

This.
Ahhh, school got super busy and still never got the chance to do this.
So it seems I can use RSDlite to just flash to an older sbf and go through the updates to the now 2.3.4 and then unlock from there and get CM7?
I don't need to back up any apps or anything so can I go straight to flashing SBF right over Greyblur?

as long as you've never done the OTA before, you can flash a froyo SBF and go back to stock that way.
there's also an unlocked bootloader for froyo in the pudding thread, you don't have to update to 2.3.4 to unlock and get CM7 (which is gingerbread anyways)
just go to the International House of Pudding thread in the dev section and read up on the right .sbf to flash to unlock your bootloader.

That's correct, I think I'm still on 1.8.3? Though because I'm running GreyBlur the phone thinks im on 1.5.3 or which ever was before 1.8.3
