Does it make a difference if I do a factory reset or flash 1.83 sbf with rsd lite 5.0? I am currently rooted on 1.83 gingerblur 3.5 and wanted to try and clean up some issues and start from scratch. Also is there a full 1.83 sbf to use or is it just an update. After the factory reset or flash I do plan to re-root with gingerbreak and re-install gingerblur 4.5. Any suggestions on which method is preferred is appreciated.
Thanks

Flash the 4.1.57 sbf, then OTA back to 4.1.83.
Thanks for the help
Will my phone automatically prompt for the OTA update after I flash 1.57 and where is best place to download 1.57 sbf gitibrew? Also I'm on AT&T not sure if that matters with the SBF or not.
Thanks again

Yup, Gitbrew is the place to get it.
4.1.57 is for AT&T.
After you flash and set up your Motoblur account again, go to Settings > About phone > System updates
You will then get the prompt to download 4.1.83, then install it.

These are actually two questions for when 1.8.3 comes out, taking into account that once installed you cannot downgrade to 1.2.6 or 1.5.7.
1. Is there a reliable 1.5.7 SBF out there? What happens when I soft-brick my phone and need to run RSDLite? I know I can install 1.2.6 but I won't be able to update unless from System Update I download in which case I'll get 1.8.3 for good.
2. What if I decided to upgrade 1.8.3. How will I be able to reflash using RSDLite? Is my only choice to wait until someone comes up with a leaked 1.8.3 SBF?
Thanks
1.8.3 sbf is already out there
if you flash back to the sbf do you lose all your root priviliges?
Yes but just use gingerbreak to re-root. You need an external sd, easy as pie.

I have a 1.5.7 version rooted and webtop modded, I'd followed the tutorial to undo the webtop but seens that the root stuff is not allowing the update to run sucessfully cause I'm getting the exclamation (!) error.
Anyone have Any hint on how can I undo the root thing or where to find the tutorial to set my phone to stock again?

Either flash the sbf 1.8.3 or the 1.57. But from what ive read they have pulled the 1.8.3, so i would just wait for it to go public over the air then flash 1.5.7 and update then root.
Thanks for the responses ! Do you guys know where the SBF for 1.57 is located? I will do a search right now but I was just wondering if I have an option to undo the root stuff to try the OTA update...
tyvm.
unroot with this thread

Issue solved
Thank you all that helped me.. I could go to 1.83 by SBF my phone to version 1.2.6 then followed the GladRoot script and now I am 1.83 rooted
Thanks for the support guys.
I am currently on 1.5.7 rooted with GB 2.0 and i am wanting to go ahead and get the 1.8.3 ota update. So i can run gingerblur 3.0. I am very unclear on what i need to do do i need to flash a fresh 1.8.3 sbf or what.
Just curious if the 1.83 OTA update enacts the journaling where it won't allow you to flash back to 1.26 or 1.57. Has it been confirmed whether 1.83 OTA allows or restricts reverting to previous firmwares?

I have successfully gone from 1.83 SBF ginger 3.0 gingerbroke, back to 1.2.6 then OTA to 1.57 and OTA 1.83, I have done this 3 times already with no consequences or issues. Currently on 1.83, Gingerbreak, Tether etc. All is well. I have used both the RSD method using provided links before official release of 1.83, as well as the current OTA. I just can stop playing with this phone lol.
This is exactly what I was wondering. I remember reading, pre-1.83 release that you would not be able to flash back to stock once the 1.83 update had been applied due to the firmware journaling that the 1.83 put in place. I've been reluctant to upgrade to 1.83 for that very reason. Are there others out there who have successfully 1.26 sbf flashed a 1.83 version phone?

Im not sure If anyone has had any issues, but i scour this forum daily while at work lol, and im pretty sure if it was an issue it would be on the top of every Atrix thread. I have flashed back to 1.26 from 1.83 3 times. I wanted to see if the official OTA ran any different from the SBF that went live on the 29th because i couldn't find an answer so i took the risk and tried it. First try worked perfectly. I then went back to SBF 1.83 to test again to see if anything was different. Far as i could tell the OTA official release seems to scroll menus better and just seems to be a little more fluid. I STRESS!!! I DO NOT have technical data to back this up, Just my opinion. I dont want start a snowball effect of people flashing there device back to stock thinking OTA 1.83 is better lol.

I flashed back to 1.26 from 1.83 successfully last night. I then OTA'd my way back to 1.83. (One thing, however, after my phone installed the 1.57 OTA, it wouldn't boot back up. It just said failed to boot and went to RSD mode. I then flashed the 1.57 sbf and that went well. I then OTA'd to 1.83 and all is well)

can i flash back to stock 4.5.91 to to unroot the phone. do i just put the .zip on my sd card and flash using clockworkmod
also curious
Same question.
I was previously on GB that was pushed to me OTA. I got bored and rooted, unlocked, and flashed Ken's Alien not thinking about the consequences of not being able to revert to stock thanks to previous root methods like Gingerblur and SBF that made it so easy. I want to get my work email back on my phone, but cannot if I am rooted.
Will flashing a 1.8.3 Fruitcake and then OTA to GB brick me? I've looked everywhere and am still noobiously confused.
Anyone know how to unroot w/unlocked bootloader? Is it possible?

"GB that was pushed to me OTA" so you are indeed has the new bootloader so you only way to downgrade will be moto-flash or CWM to 1.83
But why you dont try to download MOTO official SBF 2.3.4/4.5.91 and RSD this the only OFFICIAL MOTO SBF you can RSD with GB new bootloader
the following procedure will bring you device to out-of-the-box state with GB 2.3.4/4.5.91
First have a backup because you phone will be complete clean after this so remove external sd card
1. First format internal sdcard by settings->storage->internal sdcard->format
2. Turn off the phone and press VOL DOWN while your turn ON your phone
3. Wait until "fastboot" tag show up release VOL DOWN and now PRESS VOL UP once to enter to fastboot
4. Now you in fastboot mode "Starting fastboot......."
5. Now go to command windows box (CMD)
(You need moto-fastboot to perform this and you need to be in the same folder where is located moto-fastboot)
moto-fastboot erase boot
moto-fastboot erase system
moto-fastboot erase webtop
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot erase userdata
moto-fastboot erase cache
moto-fastboot erase preinstall
just to make sure everythings is wipe
moto-fastboot -w
after this
moto-fastboot reboot (at the same time press VOL UP and hold until show up "Starting RSD......"
Now start RSD and select the official moto GB 2.3.4/4.5.91 SBF (you can find a copy in dev forum, stickie under the thread of all the SBF's, make sure you chose 2.3.4/4.5.91)
Press start and what until reboot and RSD show up PASS in the status...
This the manual way to do it... and you are 100% you wipe everything...
The other one is doing MSU (motorola software update) and run all the process (in the background what it do is RSD the service SBF of GB 2.3.4/4.5.91) after it finish you can go back an do a factory default restore, inside settings in Android OS
Thanks. I thought about using moto software update, but wasn't sure if it would work. Same with RSD. I just don't wanna brick, but since I won't be RSD downgrading I probably shouldn't be all that worried.

Does this go for stock locked bootloaders as well. You mentioned you were unlocked. All that I have done on my atrix is root currently. Not to crazy to unlock yet. I'm on the OTA 4.5.91. Have alot of random reboot issues lately and considering this process!
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the info. I used your fastboot wipe and RSD'd suggeations to SBF. Now my phone appears to be stock. It no longer says unlocked at boot and is not rooted. Exactly what I was looking for.
My first try of using the 183 fruitcake and then OTA update didn't work due to CWM still being there. It may have worked if I had first flashed the stock recovery. I didn't try that.
Thanks again for your assistance!

If you previously installed the OTA update, it should be fine to flash this if locked as well. Its just installing the same software but without root.
The problems after the OTA update happen if you flash a SBF older than gingerbread.
It was the unlocked part of my situation that had me concerned. I haven't messed with bootloaders until this week and was confused and nervous about how that would come into play. If I hadn't unlocked, I wouldn't have hesitated as much to flash the official GB SBF to unroot.
