I have already OTA update my HTC Hero (GSM) yesterday from HTC and got my Official Android 2.1 update, can I still root them? If it can be done,is there a tutorial on how to root it?
You will have to downgrade your phone then upgrade it afain.
Or wait for a Froyo Rom...
is it possible to downgrade with goldcard?!?
i can't understand anything anymore...some say it isn't possible, some say it is...
i've tried to downgrade using goldcard and could not do it.
Some people could install the 1.5 RUU and downgrade with this. Try it.

with what? I don't see anything in your post !
I could downgrade from official 2.1 to 1.5 with a goldcard. Afterwards I rooted my Hero and flashed it with a 2.1 custom rom.
Cheers, Otze
give us some more details, like which rom you had and which one you installed.
Important... DID YOU USE RUU files? or FOTA ?
and what was your goldcard creation method.
tks
will there be a way to root this official 2.1 firmware in the near future?

I think there will be a way to root the official android 2.1 on the GSM Hero in the near future cause CDMA Hero also received the official android 2.1 and it also can't be rooted at the begining but now it can...

sorry for double posting,I just want to ask,how do u flash the second update.zip?
Edit:btw,I did some research and found out that it needs custom recovery to flash this, but in order to do that u need to backup custom recovery (which won't work on the official android 2.1 update from HTC) and then flash the custom recovery,so how did u flash the second update.zip?
urm...anyone?
cedarxda said that he/she can flash the second update.zip and root the official OTA android 2.1 update from HTC from the above link

Have you tried downgrading to 1.5 with a goldcard and flashboot? Worked for me on the India OTA update to 2.1.

If i am rooted and have unlocked bootloader on 1.83 should i use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182526 to flash for Gb? And if i can will this version enable me to downgrade usind RSD lite in the future?
you can use rsd all you want as long as you dont update with the official OTA update if you do you will be screwed and prob hard brick your phone, im pretty sure i am correct on this.

ok PLEASE help me. i was on leaked HKTW 2.3.4. I then went to cherryblur. which i guess is 2.3.4. i tried using the same sbf that the op linked us to. it put me in a bootloop. so is it safe that i downgrade to 1.8.3 and try to upgrade the way the op is to 2.3.4?

hahahaahahahahah made me laugh but was a little harsh and not helpful if u use this you CAN NOT downgrade through sbf use a custom rom or a rom that says it will allow you because if you use that you will mess up your phone also its not adviced to rsd back in forth since that really isnt made to be used for public try to use it as little as possible

DO not downgrade you are already on an official 2.3.4 which will cause u to hard brick find the pudding or fruitcake thread in the dev section for instructions on how to fix it without ruining your devices
i was able to get it to 2.3.4 but i now need to know how to root
if you have installed CWM, try this

I suggest you take your pick of modified ROMs our devs have developed
Ninja
CherryBlur
RedPill
Kenn's Rom with Extras
Couple other news ones have popped up recently, but i'd give them some time.
If you want stock, I suggest flashing the 4.5.91 SBF WITH pudding and root already built in.
I'm trying to use sbf_flash to flash to gingerbread, but it is failing with checksum errors. any suggestions?

Not familiar with sbf_flash, but which SBF gingerbread are you trying to flash?
I am trying to flash pudding. Does the phone need to be unlocked first? How can I tell if it is unlocked?

Pudding will unlock your phone if you read through the 1st post and follow instructions.
Ok, it took a while, but i get it now.

This might be a stupid question... But since the wifi calling update I cannot temproot my phone anymore with superoneclick and remove bloatware...I was wondering if I unlock and root my phone, is there a way that I'll still be able to recieve OTA updates??? if so how...
Thanks in advance.

Yes you can still recieve OTA updates just not via OTA.
If you root and unlock bootloader then all you'd have to do is wait for one of the devs...mainly X to get the OTA and put it in a ROM.
Then all you'd have to do is download and flash and you'll have whatever the newest OTA is.

Yes, you won't be able to download over-the-air updates, you will have to manually flash a custom rom with the OTA pre-installed on it.

If you're running completely stock again you should be able to download the OTA but doing so will cause you to lose root.
So you'd have to root again.
Is it possible to root on the newest JB OTA if the phone hasn't bee rooted before?
