So, I'm about to do this, but, am scared of change as I'm sure many are in some way. What will I lose versus gain?

you personally will not be affected by the the switch...its those who make roms/kernels/themes/mods that are

The only negative you will see is that certain ROMs may not be installable with certain CWM versions.

So, staying with CWM 2.5xx is okay and I don't need to odin or flash CWM3, right? Because 2.5xx flashes both amend and edify?

[Recovery][4.22.11]CWM3 with voodoo

Here is the Clock Work Recovery Mod 3 with voodoo support from nemesis2all, JT, Koush and Project-voodoo. It only supports edify scripting so be warned most themes etc will not flash. Its time we made the switch guys. We were on eclair for months, lets not hold onto old ways.
*4.22.11* Terrible wording, ADB DOES WORK. Even in recovery.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1148746/CWM3.zip
*4.24.11* This is an older version at this point already. I do not have the means to compile a kernel so I will have to wait to mooch off of JT's compile of CM7.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046905<<<<<<<<<Newer version
Why no adb?

Every cwm3 I've used from Nemesis has worked flawlessly...
cwm 2.5 supports edify and amend and has adb.
Please tell me a real reason why we should change other than to be like all the others.
How can I switch to this if usb mass storage doesn't work on CM7 and adb doesn't work on cw3? Is there another way to push files to my phone using cw3 without adb?

No they're not. Haven't personally used an old recovery in forever. People just aren't updating their zips. Nothing wrong with recovery. If adb doesn't work, then tonu must have broken it.

The real reason we switch is so that we can do our part to help the devs make these phones better. That's how this while thing works isn't it? Our it's supposed to anyways. The devs create something new and we test it to perfection and move forward to bigger and better things. It's not always about us taking and taking from the devs. We can do our part to help too. Anyways great job guys. Thanks for the hard work.

Bad use of words on my part. ADB does work, updated OP. ADB just does not work while you are in clockwork like it did before.
Also to everyone else, I for one like edify better, it makes more sense then the amend garbage. Also the newer clockwork supports gingerbread and this older one does not so it seems. If we ever plan to advance we need to prepare now.

^^This. If this cwm 3 is from jt and company, why didn't one of them post it? Where did it come from? Was this pulled off IRC and posted before jt and company were ready to post it? I'm confused. Please forgive my noobness.
Is this the recovery we can get through rom manager?
Did you code something in there?
BTW how is the rom coming along?

How many people have unlocked using HTC's method?

How many people have unlocked using HTC's method? And how did it work? You like it?
I did...on a Mac at that too. It was easy...no problems.
I've done it on my win7 machine. Process went smoothly, no problems. Only draw is you have to use fastboot to flash ramdisks/kernels. no biggie

Me. I used the HTCevohacks method. I just liked the fact that he included all the stuff in one download rather than downloading multiple things from HTC.
Everything works well. The fact that you have to boot into recovery through fastboot is a bit annoying. Can't just download a ROM manager, download a ROM and flash it. But it isn't too bad.
I've got infected ROM with ziggy kernel and OC to 1.6. No problems.

was easy and worked perfectly on my mac. no setup at all cuz i already had fastboot and adb. just run one command, copy the code, download the unlocktoken, and flash!
sucks to have to boot into recovery from fastboot boot every time i wanna flash a nightly tho...

It "shouldn't" affect the insurance unless it can be proven that your mods are what caused the problem with you phone. Hard to prove and can be hard to disprove.
That's the only reason I am waiting for a non-HTC method of rooting. I like to keep the rooting under the radar just so they don't have a chance to use it against me some day. Call me paranoid.

boot to recovery and flash? what do you mean you cant use CWM on stock rooted rom?
Rom manager is not needed for cwm. It just makes things slightly easier.
Flash a kernel that has cwm and boot into it by the command 'adb reboot recovery', three button hold, or even the 14 toggle mod reboot button. And flash away.
Rom manager doesn't equal cwm. It's just one of the things it can do. But right now it's not 100% ready for our phones.

I've been using it on my cappy, and now with my Sgs2, no issues. But I'm a compulsive updater and obsessed with living on the edge.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Majority of other phones it does work 100%.
And it does work with our phones. Just not 100%. If used enough there will be a time that it messes up (primarily with stock based roms). Hopefully in the near future the bugs will be worked out so that it is 100% with our phones.

I don't think it does...it's a link to a tweet from clockworkmod(koush).
I updated the app and ran a backup and it worked, but that was some odd squiggly stuff going on with the graphics. Koush will get it worked out. Oh, the link worked fine for me.

I had to flash the recovery manually again from here->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218417 to get it back to a workable recovery. The one that rom manager flashes is completely unreadable and I even tried flashing a zip of the recovery from the link I posted, but it just booted back into the squiggly one without flashing it. So I had to push it manually with adb.
I flashed the linked version via Rom manager wiping dalvik and it restored just fine.

How did you "brick" it. With the sbf's available and rsd lite, these phones are pretty hard to brick. I had to manually push the recovery again because of the squiggly one, but that was the extent of it.
Im talking to koush via twitter now. Hopefully he can figure it out.

makes absolutely no difference unless your flashing the glitch kernel...even then all it does is allow the glitch splash screen on boot to function.

yes i read that, but have you tried both bootloaders with that skunkworks kernel and seen any difference? i currently am using gb bootloaders but all im saying is I dont see a difference and it shouldnt have anything to do with having problems flashing kerns. jt1134 said along time ago that gb bootloaders do nothing more than froyo variants.

I hear ya, and I too know jt's take on the subject but when the glitch guys say to flash them or don't bother posting bugs I gotta heed their advice. And no I haven't tried skunk yet but back around m4 I ran without gb bootloaders and all was fine. I'm still on b31 ha! Just been too lazy (and satisfied) to move forward, but I probably will now to check out the new hybrid UI.
