as u want to know which is better you will get two ways comment on it .as far as recovery is concerned clockwork is better and soon its getting an update so all little bugs will be solved the only drawback at ths point of time is all rom doesnt support flashing from clockwork and even we will be getting rom manager support soon.
my vote +1 to clockwork

ClockworkMod Recovery now has NATIVE support for the EVO 3D...
Just Download from the market, select the phone, and click Install...
For those that dont want to use TEAMWIN Recovery, or were unable to get a recovery to flash from S-OFF Process...
thanks, i might use it because i like to manage my backups in the UI, hopefully there wont be any problems like we had in the Evo 4G

Yeah, at one point clockworkmod didn't backup the WiMax RSA keys (doh!)
I'm using CWM now though, I used Amon RA's recovery on the OG EVO. So far so good.
Does the battery charge with fastboot off and the phone off now (ie is it a new version of cwm for the Evo 3d)?

Not sure, I'm trying to find a changelog for CWM, having a little trouble finding it.
EDIT: found this, but doesn't specify minor revisions.
http://gh-pages.clockworkmod.com/ROMManagerManifest/CHANGELOG.txt
Working good...
Did a full backup/restore to test.... also flashed 2 roms and 1 kernel...
I have CWM Recovery installed from Revolution.
I installed Clockwork Mod Rom Manager and before I try to update I wanted to see what thinks I have and what it's going to upgrade too.
But after poking through the other options it thinks I have NO Clockwork recovery installed.
U have to install the one from the Rom Manager App

And you're using the same version of CWM to create and restore the band?

I am really new for this.
I want to flash CM7 stable to my Samsung Vibrant that currently runs Android 2.2 (stock).
I tried to flash by using Rom Manager so many times but I still have no result.
I really want to flash CM7 with Odin because I have played around with Odin since flashing stock firmware.
So, I hope someone might have a good idea for this.
Thank everyone,
Sengchheang
What happens when you try to use rom manager?
Btw are you rooted with custom recovery?

I cannot enter recovery mode with "install form zip file" option.
When I choose reboot to Clockwork Recovery, it just show show simple menu as I use 3 combo buttons.
How can I get the "install from zip file" menu? How?
Put cwm update.Zip on root of your internal sd and click reinstall packages in basic recovery... you might have to do it twice or three times

2 options, Odin a voodoo kernel (those have cwm built in, and s easiest if on 2.2) or Odin back to jfd. Those are the easiest.

OK, First of all which Voodoo kernel do you suggest and will this get us 2E recovery afterwards, I'm having the same problem he is, I tried CWM recovery flashing it 3 or 4 times and all I still get is the Samsung 3E[blue] menu, we need the 2E [Green] recovery menu and CWM isn't providing it for some reason on these newer HW locked Vibrants, my old one wasn't HW locked and CWM allowed the 2E recovery right from the get go! These newer phones suck because of this delimna!! OH and BTW JFD didn't help me either!!

Jfd still requires the cwm update.zip, but if you're on 2.2 with 3e, you'll need to Odin a kernel (be it a custom one like immortality or Bali), or search for supercurio's thread where he had a bunch of kernels with cwm built in, bypassing the need for a "working" stock recovery. Google "xda vibrant voodoo kernel" and it should be within the first few links. Also, make sure it's in a .tar and not .zip.

Thanks. It is working for me.
It is a very guide.
Now I can get CM7 on my device.
Everything is ok at the first test including gps.
I don't know yet about battery life.
The problem I had before is ClockworkMod Recovery with 3e.
So, what I have done is to flash kernel by Odin.
The kernel is is below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
I just flash with this kernel and continue to install CM7 by using guideline of CM7.
Cheer,
Sengchheang
Has anyone who has not manually installed CMW Recovery done so with ROM Manager? If so, what CMW version was it?
Through RomManager it is 5.xx.xx

Do you know which one - 5.0.2.0 or 5.0.2.6?
I have the latter, and would prefer the former, since (on other device) it sees and will flash from internal SD. I do not want to remove it to let CMW flash it if all I do is get back 5.0.2.6.

I see. The recovery was just created do I would think it would be created from the must recent source. That being 5.0.2.6.

5.0.2.6 would not read and flash from internal SD either - only 5.0.2.0 did - so I stayed with it.
I have 5.0.2.6 showing up on ROM Manager because I had flashed it earlier. When I first installed ROM Manager, it wanted to install a 4.xxxxx version.
That is why I was wondering if people who had never first flashed 5.0.2.6 were seeing a different one when they first setup ROM Manager.
Okay so please excuse my less than impressive samsungness lol however I have a bit of a quandry I have 2 htc sensations and recovery installation was a deadset breeze with fastboot, same with xoom and what have you.. this phone is a bit different and I think i have 2.
1. I installed rom manager and installed one to the recovery but it would never show up so I tried,
2. Installing a kernel with cwm
Now I have 2 and they're different versions
Can I get rid of one, ie mainly the kernel one and leave the actual recovery one alone? Am I mistaken?
I tried to use the recovery one to install a kernel but i didn't get a boot just black screened me.. Is there still 2 versions ie a samsung style kernel and a aosp one?
I feel like a fish out of water on this phone.. Im not a total noob with root achieved obviously and running miui 1.10.28 official build
Anyone can shed some light that would be awesome
Sent from my mind control device
EDIT: Miui should come with a kernel with cwm recovery, so you shouldn't need to get it independently.
Reflash stock rom kernel as cwm is built into the kernel
In samsung land the recovery is built into the kernel rather than being a serperate partition like in htc land.
Uninstalled rom manager, flash cf root kernel for your rom version.
It will install cmw manager (like rom manager but for cf root kernels) and give you root.

Cheers for a reply mate
Okay so I think now I only have one.. Volup home and power give me cwm5 and adb reboot recovery gives me cwm5 were as before they were different... Bizarre as that sounds
As for kernels what are good cm7/aosp ones that will work with miui? I'm keen for a bit of a flash around get to know this device a bit better and undervolt/better overclocking.. As the kernel with miui only has increments of 0.2ghz meaning its hard to find your max threshold before she reboots/bootloops lol
Does this device have fastboot, or strictly cwm/odin as main methods? Just for clarity
Edit: and does anyone have a cwm zip of extended controls for 1.10.28?

No. They are two completely different recoveries made by two different teams. Some people will say CWM is the best, some will say TWRP is the best. I have used both, TWRP on the 3d and CWM on the hero.

there is some cross compatibility depending on which version of each recovery.
i know both recoveries use the same/similar methods to backup the kernel, i.e. dump the whole kernel partition to an image file.
twrp calls this file: boot.win and cwm calls it boot.img. they are the same file and same file type even though the "extension" is different. the extension doesnt matter in linux, so the only difference is irrelevant regarding content type.
i know twrp still dumps the system and data partitions to an image. i know cwm used to dump them to an image but i think recently cwm switched to created .tar files for system and data partitions? not sure, would have to double check that.
hope that helps!
as the person said before, you can load certain things from some backups. but they are not fully reflashable in both recoveries. i tried TWR but i didnt like it as much as CWM. koush's recovery is very simply and straight forward. but its honestly all preference.
Cool. Figured I'd ask cuz I'm fresh over to the 3D from the EVO 4G and I know amon ra recovery was better than cwm
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I had cwm, but switched twrp Recently. Cwm is a nice basic recovery. Twrp has some more advanced features. Personally, I've gotten pretty familiar with twrp and I prefer it over Cwm.
Specifically... I like the ability to flash Multiple zips in a row. I also like the ability to wipe straight from the flash zip menu. I also like that it is themeable. That's my 2c.
