[Q] Question. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So entirely noob question here, but...
Recently, I flashed to stock in order to receive 1.57 update and then flashed to Gingerblur 2.5. I then installed the Preempt 1.83 from here.
So..
Is there a way to flash back to stock to get the ATT 1.83 update and then get new Gingerblur without losing all my settings and apps.
Or do I need to use something like Titanium Backup to backup my apps and then restore after I flash...Would that work with using a different version? Never really used TB for restoring before.
inb4
my apologies if this has been covered, I tried to find an answer in the development section but I have a feeling this is probably common knowledge to the regulars in those threads

welcome to the forums, quick suggestion edit ur post title to ask an actual question
i believe sbfs dont override ur files i ran 1.8.3 sbf on my 1.5.7 and didnt lose settings or apps, i think its only if u do a factory reset after that happens which i believe is not recommended if i recall correctly

Can I add to this. How would you revert totally back to stock. For example my captivate had a one-click odin. Do I have to flash sbf?

Have you tried ##786# and click on factory default reset but you have to know your msl #. Hoping that it restores back to stock version.
did you know what you'v just sayd?
firmware cannot reset itself to the basic if upgraded it factory reset cannot be
helpfull here...try'd it 3 times and guess waht?
OK i'v done it flashed the phone back to MR3 with RSDLITE i almost peed in
my pants when the phone started and stuck'd on the "NOW" after the reboot.
the phone flash'd but again having "wifi error"
but the most odd thingy is when activating the phone with the Sprint zone
app the phone i was able to use wifi and after activating it the phone rebooted
its self and the wifi issue came...its something to do with this ****ty app.
If Sprint Zone is the problem then you can remove it.
I recommend you flash back to CM5, then you can install Alien ROM which does not include that bloatware. You can install it either by unlocking and using CWM Recovery or by following the instructions to setup the bootstrap recovery. Either will do the trick and you'd be happy with the result. Just my 2 cents.
i want to stay with the stock rom a little while
which carrier are you using?
and how i remove this ridiculous app?

People have told you this several times bro, you have to be ROOTED to remove any bloatware (stock apps). rooting your phone gives you administrator rights.
Root your phone, download esfile explorer, go to settings in esfileexplorer and click on the root settings, and mount settings, make sure both boxes are checked. Now go to where the file is located and long press the file and select delete. If you need to reinstall it later for some reason there are a ton of downloads for it around, so no real need to back it up. I keep a copy on my SD card all the time.
Good Luck
-DJ
the strange thingy is that after flashing the phone want's to be activated first
the wifi works but after activating it the wifi wont respond anymore
if i dont use Sprint's network at all why the phone needs to be registered?
thats sooo oddddddd!

You realize you are not at the stock ROM? You are using MR3, which was a testing build and never released OTA or included stock with the phone. Thats why Yay4Juggs quickly replaced it with the final CM5 build once it was available.
i used the 1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf.gz right after i saw that i had wifi error.
i flash'd it 3 times but no luck at all.
thought to roll back to the stock MR1 but i dont see it anyware with this
stock (MR1) i havent got any problems at all i upgraded to MR5 via the OTA
and having troubles since than.
the file i just mentiond is from Yay4Juggs thread.

R u just searching for the SBF file so u that you can update?
...if thats the case (?), check the Development section, there is a Reference post that has all the appropriate files
reason
i want the update.zip to sit on my internal storage incase i screw up my fone too hard and need a quick way back
Well, if you screw up your phone that bad you probably won't be able to get into recovery, so you'd have to sbf from your computer. There is no update.zip, its an sbf file.

There is no .zip for the legit 2.3.4, you HAVE to perform the sbf.
thank you for the comfirmation, i thought my google fu was strong. i guess that somethings that has to be leaked?
I could ul mine when I get home. How do I do it? Which web hoster? I have never posted a large file.
I think you can get P3droids zip, right? Or is that 2.3.3?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
even if we do have a 2.3.4 zip, doesnt the sbf still have to be done to update the kernel? other wise your just installing a 2.3.4 rom on top of 2.3.3 kernel. I could also be wrong about that.
When you UD-ota you are on 233. All the new stuff is in the update.zip that can be flashed from stock recovery.

I believe this is correct
I remember seeing in stock recovery an option for install update.zip
Idont know if this will work the same way as an sbf would, if u happen to mess something up and.need to get back. Could be worth a shot but it might also be dangerous so proceed with caution. Has anyone ever tried to do that instead of sbfing before?
Now im just curious, why is the the update 6 times smaller than the sbf. just a question, thank you for the zip, might be usefull, i was switching roms earlier and got stuck in boot up, but could acsess stock recovery, alas by then it was too late for me t find and put the zip internal. got a back up plan now!!!
I am probably wrong but I would think that its because the update.zip doesn't have the system partition and files like the sbf does. This is why I don't think it will work the same way.
FYI next time you are in a bootloop try just pulling battery and put it back in. Then plug ur phone into the wall. This brings u to the bootstrap and u can restore a nandroid or try a data wipe from there or cache/dalvik wipe. Then again I believe if a wipe was done prior to that it would have wiped recovery app settings being installed. But u may get lucky and still be able to get into it.
I have restored nandroid many times when stuck in bootloop by doing this.

Restore to stock

I'm sorry if the answers to my question have been answered but I can't find them after searching for a few days.
I need to send my Atrix in for a repair or replacement. It is unlocked and rooted running Turl's CM9 right now. Obviously I can't send it back as is, so how should I go about everything?
Flash an SBF, flash a fruitcake rom, or something else that I haven't stumbled upon?
The only threads I could find are from a year ago and so much has changed since then. I just want to be sure I go about this the correct way. And should I go through ATT or Motorola? I know my phone is still under warranty with both.
Thanks for any help! It is much appreciated!
"Always have an exit strategy"
You can flash a fruitcake but the "unlocked" text will remain so you can hope for the best.
Or you can try an SBF (Disclaimer: at your own risk).
How long have you had it? Usually if you have had it for more than 30 days AT&T won't help but if you are still under "warranty" with them I would try AT&T first.
If you can't find a way to return your phone back to stock you can try Motorola, they might just overlook the modifications you have done.... or they might charge you a service fee...... or they might just send the phone back to you. It really depends on who ever is processing your claim and the mood they're in.
Also, please don't start multiple threads on the same topic.

OK thanks. I had read that if I use the Motorola Software Update tool it will erase the "unlocked" text. I don't know how true that is though.
And sorry about the multiple threads, its just annoying not being able to use half my keyboard in portrait. Just was hoping for some quick answers.

I had restored a few times to stock.
I do that:
Reboot in fastboot mode and fastboot - w, fastboot erase system, fastboot erase cache, fastboot erase preinstall.
Turn phone off and pull out sim card and sd card.
Reboot in rsd mode (olding vol+ at boot) and flash your sbf with rsd lite.
That's all.

Ok, you don't happen to have a stock sbf file? I can't find one anywhere.
Also, why is it that we shouldn't flash sbf files? It seems that people have success with them but everyone keeps saying not to do that. But I can't find a stock flashable zip and the fruitcake links are dead so sbf seems to be my last resort.
I'm just stuck scratching my head because of all this confusion?

Look in the firmware superthread, in the last pages someone have a link in his sign to a page of many stock sbf files. I found there my updated one.
I always got succes with rsd lite but only with a full wipe with fastboot before it say "pass" at the end. Otherwaise it say to 'manually reboot'.
Don't know why people say "do not use sbf", probably there is a reason, but i think it is the only way to remove the 'Unlocked'
Here links to froyo sbf
and to GingerBread sbf
also you need to delete any folder about apps that need root to work and su folder and anything that presume you have rooted your phone

Depending on what build you are currently on you do not want to "downgrade". So if you are on a Gingerbread build (4.5.91 or 4.5.141) do not flash the Froyo SBF. And probably if you are on the 4.5.141 build (2.3.6), it is not recommended to flash the ".91" build. That is where the issues can occur.
I have also used RSD Lite to flash back to stock (a few times) but always use caution. So, for @scarbutt11, do you happen to remember what build you were on before you unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom ROM?

Yeah, I was running stock 4.5.91/2.3.4. I'm on a cm9 build now. I'm not sure if that will matter at all for flashing back to GB? I know I tried cm7 to see if it was just cm9 causing the problems, but it seems it is hardware related.

Yeah, it depends on what "Official" build you were last on. Since you were on "4.5.91" then I would just use that SBF. Like someone else mentioned, it is possible to use RSD Lite, just use caution.

Rootkeeper works just fine. Only thing to watch out for is you can not install eclipse 2.+ with rootkeeper installed. You have to erase your back up. But it will get you to 2.3.4 no problem
Just from what I read in these forums, root keeper works, but people do have problems with it in some circumstances. I dont read about people having problems with the other two one click root methods. I've always used the one click methods and never used root keeper so Im just basing it off of what I read. But in your circumstance, either way will probably be fine. But like what was already said, you might have to use the one click methods if you are updating to certain things.

I would recommend following my SBF tutorial and SBF to 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), then follow my rooting tutorial for the DX2, then follow my nandroid backup tutorial. Once you have those, take a look at CM7DX2 for a nice ROM for the DX2 (the original post (OP) has detailed installation instructions that I wrote), or Nitro's Eclipse ROM.
All links to my tutorials are in my signatue. Look up the CM7DX2 and Eclipse ROMs in the development section for the Droid X2.

Thanks moon shadow what your saying makes sense. I am just leary about the whole flash, sbf method. i have had bad luck with rsd in the past. I am really not a big rommer i tried liberty before and it repeatedly soft bricked my phone. I used rsd to run the gb leak for my original dx and found it very unstable. I just really wanted the update but also keep my root goodies.

Backup ur app with rom tool box pro, or titanium backup. Accept the ota and use zergrush to root all u do is plug it into ur comp press enter and boom rooted. I recommend gb2.3.3 stock. So far it has been the best stock rom. Way better than 2.3.4. But that is my opinion. Remember anything u do is at ur own risk. Enjoy

I just wanted to say thanks again shadow your a huge help for a noob
if drivers are in zip, unzip anywhere
then run them, by double clicking
Shadow im having an issue flashing it wont pull the right information for my phone it just says s flash and n/a for everything else shoud i be in mass storage or charge only?
to flash SBF, you need to be in bootloader mode
RSD Flash Support
turn off, hold volume up, reboot
all it will say is "starting RSD support"
then your ready
yea i got that far but in your tutorial it says that i should see the infor on my phone in slot 1 but all it says is s flash, and all the info on the phone is N/A? is this alright?
edit: sorry it was the link that you sent me it said i should see my phone info
edit: duh im a dumbass sorry for you having to put up with me shadow i answered my own question i just had to read a little closer
thanks again ill keep you posted

[Q] need cspire sbf or a way to get 3g back

ok i ran into a problem re flashing cm10 on my x2 had to sbf using the ntelos sbf re rooted and restored 754 boy's 2.3.6 nandroid and now i have no data, i can make calls and text but no 3g anyone know a fix for this or am i stuck till up grade. will c spire flash the correct sbf for me if i took it to them or is that a shot in the dark.
C Spire won't give you an sbf. I've been trying for months. Do you have a nandroid backup of the stock rom that came with your MX2? I've seen it mentioned a few times in this forum that you can sbf with the Ntelos file and then restore your nandroid backup of the stock rom and everything should be working fine. I have bricked two Milestone X2 after trying various mods and took it to my local C Spire store. All they would do is warranty the phone out and give me a new one. They could not use a sbf to reset it. Double check to make sure your data connection isn't disabled in your settings and try dialing *228 to activate your phone and see what happens.
Edit: I misread your post and see that you restored 754boy's nandroid. I'm not sure what else to tell you except what is in the last sentence of my post.
done the *228 thing. i have data enabled. i can make calls and text. as I've been doing research I've found out that I have no choice but to deal with it or warranty it out. i use Wi-Fi at home and the office so i think I'll deal with it for now.

the easiest way is to take it to one of the techs and tell them all it needs is the correct carrier files that control connection to the network not a whole flash
ill try it

Is there any possible way to get the carrier files directly from your phone so you don't have to keep going in and asking them to flash the files for you?

in theory yes there is how ever you would need to know exactly what files and where they are. also restoring them would be a pain without extensive knowledge on how they work or someone with the knowledge to create a walk through.
any update on getting the files written to your phone?
No I've been busy with work and haven't had a chance to go in. Will try Saturday.

have you checked your apn settings
these may help,

Did you ever get this problem sorted out? I'm trying to fix a MX2 I accidentally bricked while attempting to flash. I SBF'd but all carrier settings got changed to Verizon. Well I flashed a Sprint PRL to it and that allowed me to activate the phone again. Calling and texts work fine but no data at all, just like the OP.
first read the mx2 thread, if you have not yet
2 if you need to sbf only use sbf_flash not rsd |ite
3 you maybe able to fix by changing apn settings
4 if changing apn does not fix, you will need to take back to store, and have it reflashed

APN settings are only good for SMS or MMS settings..... I think. Anyway, I took it to cspire and they were clueless. All they tried to do was *228, which I had already done. Factory reset wasn't working either. Anyway all they could advise me to do was an upgrade since my warranty expired 2 damn weeks ago. They need to have REAL techs working in there.
I'm gonna keep experimenting.......
did you?
menu>system settings>battery & data manager>data delivery
check 'data enabled'
check 'background data'

I do not know, can settings be checked from radiocomm?

Hmm never tried that. Hopefully someone can pull that info so I can have something to compare.
if there has ever been an c spire mx2 ota update, and if someone saved it
it can be flashed, in flashmode, with moto-fastboot.exe
at least parts of it can, not sure if all moto updates flash the radio
I know with the D2G the 2.2 to 2.3.3 changed the radio
there is an update.zip for MX, have no idea what that would do to MX2
[ZIP]Cellular South (C Spire) OTA GB 2.3.5 Update zip
could really hard brick it, ,if it didn't, maybe could flash a MX2 sbf with sbf_flash
but that's something you try just before you toss it in the trash

If the update is to 2.3.5 it will bomb if it is to update to 2.3.6 it will bomb. Sbf flash is one of the only ways to safely sbf and still retain carrier information to allow data access. If you have already flashed the ntelos sbf with rsd lite then the only thing that can bring back data is to find an ota for 2.3.6 and modify your build.prop to 2.3.5 to let the stock recovery flash it. Or take it to your carrier and have them reflash the phone with their sbf. Sad fact but I've had it happen too much till I switched to sbf flash.

I tried sbf_flash using Ubuntu via VMware. It detected my phone but failed to flash each time. Could you elaborate on what to edit in the build.prop. That sounds easy since I've edited it before to add and change certain stuff......then again, would still need that 2.3.6 OTA and I've never seen one around. I'm not even going to waste my time or gas by taking it to Cspire. The people in there are useless when it comes to technical stuff like this.
