you need android 2.1 and facebook for android. login press the button sync to contacts
For anyone who still has 1.6 you can use 'SyncMyPix' which does the same thing.
Note: The name in your phonebook has to be identical to the name on facebook.
Other program is Facebooksync there you can choose which phone contact to sync with facebook profile picture.
Do not need any 3rd-party app.
Just upgrade to 2.1, then update the pre-installed Facebook app with Android Market.
At the first time you start FB App, it will ask you whether to sync your facebook contacts with your phone contacts or not. Let it sync.
When the sync is completed, open your Contacts. Click on the contact that you want to change the Contact Picture ~> click on Edit Contact ~> press Menu button and choose Join contact. Then choose your Facebook contact that related with the current contact.
Done, the contact picture will automatic change to FB profile picture. Any update to FB profile picture will effect to the user contact picture automatically.

Wow it's a good one! But, my contacts change the name to the facebook contact... and in some cases its a fake name, any way to change this?

problem with this is, i have 1300 friends. and what it did was, it added all 1300 friends and put it in my phone book, how annoying!
Go to FB App Settings, Sync Contacts, and check the option Sync with existing contacts.

That's the exact reason I didn't sync it. Same with the facebook profile photos.

how to delete gmail contacts in samsung galaxy S II? I don't see Gmail Contacts in contact list but when I goto MSG and see numbers I see them there.I have deleted all the Contacts from Gmail but I still see them.How to delete them?
Don't allow gmail to synchronize your contacts. If you still have them, go to contact options and allow the phone to show every contact you have and delete the gmail ones.

is there a way to permanently link my facebook contacts to google contacs; It's annoying every time i flash a new rom my contacts get restored from google but i have to re-link them with my facebook contacts to get their pic and email

You can try this: Sync your contacts with FB and Google. Go to your contacts app. Make sure the display options are such that both FB & Google contacts are displayed. Merge possible duplicates. Once all of this is done. From the contacts menu, export the contacts to SD card.
Now you've the contacts backup file which contains numbers, emails plus the the display pictures. After flashing new ROM, just import from this file.

Was just wondering how do you have the phone contacts use the facebook pictures? Right now my contacts are only using the google pictures.

Just let your Facebook manage your contacts in the Facebook app settings menu. Imho.
settings, accounts, facebook, sync might work?
Just go to your sync settings. You'll find it there.
in settings/account/facebook and sync
