Galaxy Tab Gingerbread Update Out..Can It Help Us? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So the Galaxy Tab now has Gingerbread. I know the tab on Verizon and the Fascinate have similar hardware (if not the same). Could this update help the devs at all as far as the GB side of things for our phone?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/12/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-3-3-gingerbread-update-begins-international/

The only gingerbread update that will help with development for the Fascinate is the gingerbread update for the Fascinate. Samsung doesn't provide full source code, so we can't build a ROM from other (similar) devices without something to fill in the gaps. If the Mesmerize were to get updated to 2.3, that could be ported, but outside of that nothing will help

The only source files that help us are those for the SCH-I500 files, so only source from the Fascinate, Mesmerize, or Showcase will help us at all. It has always been this way, and will likely continue to be this way.

[Q]flash "Normal" Android

I'm thinking of buying a tab but don't like that samsung has "branded" the OS now with touchwiz, is it possible to android, without samsung stuff, so as to get the updates ota when they're released? For example 3.2 is released but haven't made it to galaxy 10.1 yet?
Does one need to root the tablet to do this?
Are there any nice how-tos?
Buying a tablet or waiting for google to release their own depends on if this is possible.
Thanks for any help!

Yes you have to root to get 3.2 honeycomb. Right now some developers are developing vanilla 3.2 ROM for Gtab 10.1. And each time an update is released for honeycomb we have to wait for the developers to update their ROM, so that we can flash the ROM.
Another thing is that honey comb wont be seeing much updates as IceCream sandwich is just about to be released.
If you want to get updates directly from Google then you have to buy a Google Experience Device. but right now there is no pure google experience tablet (AFAIK).
I think I'm looking for the same thing, I want a 10.1 tab but without the Touchwiz mods..
But just to confirm that I understand you correctly, If I purchase one of these tablets it would be possible to de-brand it and remove the Samsung bloatware/Touchwiz stuff and thus run the basic stock Android by using one of the ROMS posted throughout the forums, which I'm assuming is limited to 3.1 as you say 3.2 is in development, not that version makes any difference to myself.

Yes. You can install any non-touchwiz ROM in the dev section(Blazer is the only one i guess) or use the 3.1 stock ROM

[Q] ICS on Galaxy Tab 10.1

Hi guys
Can anyone tell me if I have a Tab and have not applied the TW-update(still on vanilla android), will I be able to get ICS when it releases or do I have to wait for Samsung to release their update?
Yes, you will never get ICS if you don't apply Touchwiz. This is because the IP address of the registration number will conflict with the binary of the update MD5 sum.
Just kidding, but a silly question demands a silly answer. Yes, you can get the ICS update, but if you're waiting for the OTA update, it will come from Samsung and probably have Touchwiz baked in (and will probably not happen for a few months). Get a custom ICS ROM when they become available.
Thanks for the reply
My wording might have been a bit off/stupid.
To clarify
If I don't apply the TW-update (keep vanilla android) will I be able to apply ICS when Google release it (sometime soon hopefully) or will I still have to wait for Samsung to do their tweaks first
or
am I dependent on Samsung either way
i think you will probably get a ics ROM sooner in one of the forums of development. Otherwise you will have to wait for quite some time...
Seeing how utterly corrupt the last OTA i downloaded from samsung (the 3.2) was. I rooted and installed a custom rom, and damn it was worth it. Even if samsung pushed out a ISC early, i'd still not download it from them.

Google doesn't support Samsung devices. Google provides Samsung with Android, but Samsung pushes the updates. Samsung will probably modify the update with Touchwiz before they send out the OTA.

[Q] HC 3.2 update still not available for my Canadian P7510XXXKG6

Hi Guys, I've been waiting for the HC, anxiously for a long time now, but some how I still can't see it being available on my SGT 10.1. I bought mine from Canada but now I have it here in Finland (it should not make any difference), but thought I'd mention it.
My model No :- GT-P7510
Build No: HMJ37.XXKG6 P7510XXKG6
I've had my Tab for a few months now, and love it. Its rooted but haven't loaded any custom Roms. I know that I can use the CWM to flash the many optimized HC 3.2 ROMS out there, but I wanted to know why I am unable to see the 3.2 update OTA or using Kies. I just get a message that no updates are available, and I am running the latest version. I tried searching for the issue, but it seems not many ppl have this problem.
This is getting annoying, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know (I am getting desperate ). I was thinking of Fac reseting the device, and creating another samsung account (maybe). What do you all think. But I dont want to screw up the tab, by messing around too much, so any help would be appreciated, thanks
From what I understand 3.2 is still not released for Canada
Sent from my GT-P7510
Canadian firmware has a history of being as much as 6 months behind on Galaxy i9000 -- could be the same for the Tablet
Thanks guys I guess I should just wait; on the bright side, atleast now I know what the issue is, thanks again!

[Q] In theory, is it possible to cook ICS roms for "every" device?

Well, I've read a post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408312) because I'm interested to know if there's a possible way to cook ICS rom for my SGS Wifi 5.0 (a.k.a. Galaxy Player 5.0). I realized that nobody cares about this device, so I'm going farther to learn how I can do it myself... I started thinking that SGS Wifi 5.0 it's similar to Galaxy S in hardware (and there's some ICS roms for SGS), and also these two doesn't have ICS official support... WOW! yes, they're similar so I'm starting my adventure asking you if it's possible to get ICS (theoretically) in "every" device? (obviously, not every because of the hardware).
EDIT: I'm new at the forum, so if there's something wrong with the post, let me know

[Q] Restore Samsung Exhibit II 4G to stock 2.3.6

I am looking for a way to restore the Samsung Exhibit II 4G to the stock 2.3.6 ROM. NOT 2.3.5. I have found a way to get 2.3.5 on and I did but did not find a way to upgrade to 2.3.6, as Samsung's Kies software said my phone was not support in Kies 2.0. I flashed Peach Sunrise on it and am using it now but for future reference or errors would like to find a way to go back to stock 2.3.6. Anybody know a way or have the stock 2.3.6 rom that I could flash?
I used this thread originally (before I installed Peach Sunrise) to get back to 2.3.5:
http://androidforums.com/exhibit-2-...bit-ii-4g-back-its-factory-out-box-state.html
I saw this thread post but I am not sure if it works, as it is from a different phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28233487&highlight=2+3+6#post28233487
Any help would be appreciated!
have you looked in the wiki? Not sure how this differs from the other methods you tried, however this should get you back to stock. Even if it's just 2.3.5, you should be able to OTA update to 2.3.6. I've never done this myself, so I can't be 100% certain. Personally, I find CM10 to be much better for this phone.
If you still have issues, you could probably send a PM to jocala to ask for assistance. He did tons of work for this device, so if anyone can help, it's definitely him.
FYI: the Samsung Exhibit II 4G was later re-branded as the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G. They are the exact same device. Look under your battery to find T-679 on the label, as this is the device which is referred to by both names. In Canada, this phone is also known as the Galaxy W 4G, which isn't to be confused with the I8150 which is also Galaxy W (very important not to confuse the two). All-in-all, as long as you're using a T-679, follow the instructions from the wiki.
