[Q] Selling phone removing data? - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi, im in the process of selling my P500, the state its in now is....
Stock Rom 2.2
Rooted+ Thunderg recovery
Launcher pro installed.
Is it as simple as removing the microSD (only has apps on it) and doing a"Factory Data Reset" from settings?
Will this bring back the phone to stock state (LG launcher icons etc) and my details removed from market etc.
It will still have root im sure but i maybe able to remove that via Z4root?
Any info guys would be sweet.

Format mmc, and do factory reset. This will remove all your information. Yes it will bring back to stock LG launcher as you are using stock rom.
You can root/unroot with z4root on Froyo 2.2.

can you tell me why u selling ur optimus ?

Just want a better phone this is sweet thou if it doesn't sell I'm still happy.

Question About Backing Up Before Flash

I backed up my stock os with clockwork recovery, and backed up my apps with titanium, I read that I shouldn't back up user data other than wifi and bookmarks due to possible problems. Do I need to do anything else as far as backing up goes? Will I have to reconfigure my apn and network settings to be able to make calls and use data service, or will bionix v include that when I flash?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It all stays....just be sure your backup is a 2.2 cause your gonna have problem if you run a 2.2 rom and try to restore a 2.1 rom
Well....I'm glad I asked. My plan was to go to bionix v from 2.1 stock rooted. So I'll just be better off downloading them again after flashing? Is there a full list somewhere of all the apps bionix comes with?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Restoring your apps from to 2.1 to 2.2 shouldn't give you a problem. I did this many times and never had any issues. Its only the system data you need to worry about giving you issues.
Sent from a Galaxy S far....far....away.
the apps, it will never give you a problem.
but restoring the whole system like a nandbackup will if you go from 1 firmware to another.
Other backups like launcher pro backups will not do anything either, they're all in your SD Card.

What he said....thats what I was getting at
Thanks guys...one last question before I flash.
Will I be ok to backup and then restore on bionix v system (bloatware) like "thinkfree office" and "avatar" and "the sims" and "daily briefing"?
I ask because titanium doesnt back them up when I batch them as user apps so I have to back them up manually.

Hey.."there's an app for that".... yep in the DEV section is an easy tool called Android Customization Suite or you can put them back on manually
I may have to check that out. I think I'm going to go a different route with the applications.
One final question before I flash. I'm just about ready.
In titanium backup.....will I be ok to backup (in 2.1 stock) and restore (in 2.2 bionix) just the green text system data such a MMS settings and Voicemail dialer and my apn settings (only the stuff in green text) our does all of that need put in manually? I've read that its ok to restore green text system data such as bookmarks and wifi but wanted to know if the other green text stuff was ok as well.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The ROM DEV recommends not to install any system data or system apps from a TB...So I would say, if you went through all of this hard work to get yourself a custom ROM just to have to re-do it because of an incompatible file or data problem..then that would be on you..
If it were me I would not bring anything over from a 2.1 to 2.2 system. I would just put it back in manually
Right on man....thats what I'm gonna do then.
I checked out that customization suite and I'm think that will be able to help me get the system apps back on here that I want. I won't really know if I can get it to work til after I take a leap of faith and just flash the rom. With what everybody else has said about how badass team whiskey's bionix v is, I guess I should probably trust the overwhelming opinion and flash it. Then worry about how to correctly get the bloatware back on here that I want. Im pretty sure I know what I'm doing at this point. Just have to do it.
Thanks a lot for your help man.... I appreciate the time you took to give me advice....as well as everyone else.
I'll let everyone know how it goes.

It seems like every time I get ready to flash I come up with another question.
Do I need to copy the nandroid backup of my current stock 2.1 to the external sd or to my pc before flashing? I know bionix wipes the system automatically when flashing so won't it remove the nandroid backup?
** Nevermind....found the answer. Leave nandroid backups where cwr places them. If this is incorrect...someone let me know please**
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
sounds right to me...only way its gonna come up missing is if you format or delete the cwm folder yourself
Thanks for your help jmcghee. Finally took the plunge and Im rocking bionix with most of my apps and loving it. This thing is now a rocket ship. It blows my mind how fast it is. Its like going from a dell to an alienware. All I reccommend for you guys that haven't flashed yet but are thinking about it...read, read, read, ask questions and go for it. Its not as hard as it seems at first. And the noob guide is invaluable.

[Q] Not your normal tether question

OK so this probably sounds backwards from what everyone would expect. I've been using attn1's Liberated 2.2.2 FR008 rom and adding/removing apps to suite my needs. But now I want to REMOVE usb & wifi tethering! Sounds crazy but this phone is for a kid. I don't know much about developing. I'm guessing these features are built in to the OS, if so do I need to just get a custom settings.apk that doesn't give the tether options OR is there an apk i can remove (many of the apks in that rom have name that I'm not sure what they do so I left them in)? Any help would be really appreciated!

I guess you'd just have to get a new rom which does not have those options (none that I know of), but I still don't see why you need those options removed. Even if it is for a child, it doesn't really make a difference. The options can still be there and just not be used.
didnt the stock 2.1 NOT come with tethering? Its been a while, but I think thats how I remember it. So couldnt you just revert to a 2.1 rom?

Right, but I can't figure out how to remove the junk apps ect. from the RUU before flashing it like I can with a custom just by deleting apk's from the .zip file. Any ideas?

I'm no dev but i think if you flash back to ATT 2.1 Rom and re-root to get super user i think you'll be abel to delete your ATT softwear with titanium backup... but I'm not sure. I hope this works for you

you can use adb to remove the apk's from the /system partition while the phone is in recovery after you flash the stock 2.1 RUU. You may have to reflash clockwork recovery after this, not sure if it will revert to stock recovery or not. Also, not sure on this one but you can check out the 2.1 Liberated Rom in the dev section and see if it has tethering enabled or not. Trying to remember this off the top of my head but its been so long since Ive done anything 2.1...
Yes, running the 2.1 RUU will remove Clockwork. So the full process would be to run the 2.1 RUU on the phone, then once done, run Unrevoked again on the phone. At this point I would recommend taking a Nandroid backup so you can revert any changes you make (i.e., if you have problems after deleting one of the apps).
Then you need to use adb to remove apps while the phone is in Recovery mode.
The downside of this (compared to just leaving the phone with stock 2.1 after using the RUU) is that Unrevoked automatically gives you root access in the ROM, which may or may not be what you want.

Root access to the rom is fine. But if I remove apks using adb aren't they still in the boot.img making it possible to simple do a system wipe/ hard reset and thus bring back all the junk apps in the stock 2.1 rom??
With all the DEVS on here it seems like there is a cleaner way to do all this...

As the previous poster said, you can just download another browser app from the market. Your phone does not depend on the browser app for a data connection. If for some reason you can't do that:
Check the I9k forums and find a CWM flashable, stock ROM. Download it, use 7zip or winrar (or any other windows archive program- google search 7zip, its free to download) and open the ROM file. Go to: system/app. Find browser.apk and extract it to your desktop. Use adb to install it: adb push /system/app/browser.apk and you should be all set.
thanks for that did kinda help...is there anyway i can just remove everything on the phone and re install everything....kinda like re-booting with all the preloaded samsung apps...regardless if i deleted some or not?

No, not really. You would need to reflash the stock system image. Factory resets just wipe user settings, app data, and other stuff like that. It won't restore anything. If you want to do a reinstall, look into using Odin to flash back to stock. Just BE CAREFUL. Odin can brick you if you don't know what you're doing. Better off following the steps I outlined, or installing CWM and flashing a stock ROM. Again, the safest way to do what you want is what I previously posted.
if i updated through kies not a month or 2 ago and im using an australian SGS GT I9K 16BG with optus what would i be running (eg...gingerbread, Eclair, Kernal, Froyo)?
just get an market apk file n install

[Q] Avatar movie on custom rom, will it work?

Im about ready to take the plung and change my phones stock 2.2 rom for an ICS rom. I think I'm gonna go with ICSlim but I have a few questions first.
1. Will I be able to transfer over the preloaded movie that came with my phone?
2. The steps for installing ICSlim are not very clear. It mentions first updating to a CM9 rom first before updating to ICS, does that sound right? Can some one give me a simple run down of what I gotta do from after installing CWM?
3. Can I get memo and swipe on ICS?
4. If something goes wrong during installation is there any way to recover from it? Does vibrant have something like NVflash?
1. Yes and no. Yes, the movie Avatar will remain on your SD card after upgrading to ICS. However you will not be able to play it.
2. Yes that's partially correct, however I believe you meant CM7. For a detailed break down of the installation process go here.
3. Yes, you can get them. To download Swype you must register as a beta tester here. It's very simple to do and only takes a couple minutes. Once registered you can download and enjoy Swype all over again. You can download the Touch Wiz memo app here. Instructions are included in the .zip.
4. Yes. Before wiping data or even installing a rom in CWR, do a nandroid backup. Here's some simple instructions from the noob guide in the Q&A section...
Clockwork Recovery / Nandroid Backup!
Reboot into CWR (both volume buttons held in) while booting until you see “Vibrant'
Once there, go to Backup and run that. Should take about 5 minutes, maybe more.
If all hell breaks loose, this is a snapshot of your phone at that point... it's important to do this before flashing a new ROM!

not so sure about ics now...
After reading about the encryption error I dont think Im gonna move on to ICS after all.
Instead I'm just gonna fix up the stock rom. What are some must do things I should do to get my phone running fast? I know there is an app that removes the preinstalled crap from my phone but I dont know what its called. Anyone know the app Im thinking about?
Also does rooting your phone mess up the play store?
And what is the lag fix? I have seen it mentioned in a few other threads but never took the time to read up on it.
There is a Stock KB5 ROM in the development section. Also a few other Froyo 2.2 ROMs you may want to try.
I don't know of any de-bloater for our devices. You can always purchase TB and freeze them. My Slim_Ryder ROM is about as non-bloat as your can get for Froyo.
Rooting does nothing to play store. I do think it effects the Play Movies.
Voodoo Lag Fix -
In a nut shell. Samsung decided to use a $hitty as filesystem called RFS. A Voodoo lag-fix kernel can convert these RFS file system into EXT4. Much faster the RFS. This Lag-fix is only used in Froyo and Gingerbread (non CM / MIUI) roms. CM7 / 9 (or any ICS rom) uses YAFFS file system. This also requires the ICS kernel to repartition the entire device. Due to this fact if you ever flash CM7 / 9 / ICS / MIUI and want to go back to any Froyo / GB rom you must Odin back to stock with repartition checked.
Hope the info helps
Ty
Thanks for the info, the lag fix stuff is a big help especially
Is it true.....

still looking...
Still looking for the app that uninstalls the preinstalled apps on the vibrant.
You can do this yourself with Titanium Backup or any file explorer that has Root. They are in /system/app.
Sidenote: Before you get uninstall crazy, one of the benifits of TB is that you can Freeze and app. This lets you see if there are any unintended consequences by not allowing that app to do its thing. If all is good, then you can uninstall. Make a TB backup first though in case you ever want to reinstall.
Once you get all those bloat apps gone, reboot to recovery and wipe /cache and the advanced>wipe /dalvik-cache and it will clean your phone of anything those left behind. Will/should run snappier too. I actually do this from time to time to keep my stuff clean.
Just download the extended blu ray version and tada.

Replacing TouchWiz apps with stock ICS apps?

Hi there,
I can't be the only one who thinks the TouchWiz apps suck (particularly the SMS app). Is there a way to replace them with the stock ICS ones?
I'd rather keep TouchWiz for now until other ROMs become more stable, so flashing another ROM with the stock apps wouldn't be ideal. Could I simply root and replace the TouchWiz .apk from the system app folder and replace with the ICS .apk and re-boot?
Could I also use this method to remove all the included bloat (chatON etc)?
Finally, if I root my S3 is there a way to un-root it in order to get it repaired under warranty?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, I hate the stock messaging app, which is why after I rooted, I installed GO SMS Pro and then froze the stock messaging with Titanium Backup (don't uninstall it, just freeze it).
I'm sure there's a way to replace them with stock ICS ones, it's just a case of finding out how :3.
If you install Omega v5.0 the Aroma Installer Script actually asks you what bloatware you want on your phone and again if you have Titanium Backup you can also remove any junk left over (like Game Hub).
And yes, you can un-root or leave root and try your luck with Triangle-Away from CF.
EDIT: If you want to manually remove junkware, be sure to have a nandroid backup just incase you remove something you shouldn't.

I love the stock ICS apps, SMS, dialer (and contacts).. basically CM9 which is 95% stock ICS. I would love to enable all these features on my S3.. any idea how? I'm reluctant to flash a custom ROM, as everything is working

Pretty much the whole point of XDA is about custom ROM's what makes you think that just because everything is working now on stock that it won't be on a custom ROM, custom ROM's are undoubtedly far better than stock for the most part but it's your phone so entirely up to you just some friendly advice
